First-time visit to Noona Steak and Seafood in Duluth -- and wow, the food was impressive. We had an early 5:15 p.m. reservation through Resy and received clear confirmation and reminder communications from the restaurant. Parking was a challenge due to Valentine's Day and the sheer number of people dining out. That said, parking is often tight in Duluth because of the many restaurants, so it's wise to allow extra time. My wife and I were promptly greeted and seated upon arrival, and our server quickly came over to take our drink orders. I have to mention our server, Maddie, who was one of the most pleasant and personable people we've encountered in a long time while dining out. She was a textbook example of what makes for a great dining experience. At that point, I learned the restaurant was offering a prix fixe Valentine's Day menu, which hadn't been communicated beforehand. While not unusual for the holiday, it did catch me by surprise. Maddie handled the situation professionally when I asked to speak with a manager, and Leon came over quickly. After I explained, they were able to accommodate us by offering the items à la carte, which worked out well since we chose to skip one course and dessert. As for the food -- it was outstanding. My wife had the beet salad and said it was the best she's ever had. I ordered the wedge salad, which was very good. She chose the shrimp appetizer, while I had the stuffed mushrooms; both were excellent. We each ordered the 6-oz filet, cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes and green beans complemented the steak nicely, and I especially enjoyed the house-made steak sauce, which paired very well with the filet. I also had the opportunity to speak with executive chef and owner George Yu, who was engaging and shared that they cook exclusively over open flames using well seasoned cherry and oak wood from a single supplier. This was our second time here, first time 6 yrs ago according to my last yelp review. Unfortunately my review stays the same. Service was good, probably because my husband told them I was an elite yelper but also was early on a Saturday night and had only a few tables. They made my custom drink order well. Listened to instructions. Started with a dozen oysters, recommended by the waitress, they were ok. They small and not really flavorful. They had the typical cocktail sauce and horseradish but needed hot sauce. Served also with goldfish crackers, I get the pun but a little tacky for a fine dining establishment. We also had the shrimp with the gochijong sauce. The shrimp were nice size but again lack luster. Where's the seasoning? The gochijong sauce was sparse and was watery. Also the shrimp needed salt. We ordered the surf and turf which was good size. The steak was a little under, ordered it med rare. It was also very thin. The steak was seasoned with corse sea salt at the end. Well that produced some very salty pieces and some under seasoned pieces. Salting before cooking would have helped that and garnish with the course salt. The lobster was small but tasty. Slightly under cooked. The Kim chee fried rice was good but not enough although there were some over ripe Kim chee pieces. The star of the meal was the cheese corn. Delish! Sweet, savory and creamy. Cooked perfectly with enough crunch of the corn to offset the creaminess. It was an anniversary and was offered 3 cake choices and ordered the cheesecake. Non of the cakes are made in house, we asked. The cheesecake was creamy but had a huge crust so the ratio of the cheese mixture to the crust was off balance. BTW a very small slice. First review in a very long time. Had an amazing meal at Noona's with some business colleagues. The food and service were incredible. I had the marinated sea bass, which was one of the best pieces of fish I have ever eaten. The service is top notch. I have nothing even remotely negative to say about Noona's. Totally blown away. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone. I am perplexed how there isn't a 3 month waiting list to get a table here. 10 out of 10, A++, 2 thumbs up, ect. Check ot out. I came to Noona Meat and Seafood last night for dinner and I was pleasantly pleased. For our appetizer, we had ordered the chicken wings with daikon kimchee. The wings were tasty and flavorful. For our main course we both ordered the 10oz NY strip steak and boy oh boy was it one of the most amazing steaks I've ever eaten in my life! Every bite was delicious consistent throughout. Really want to like this place but can't recommend. Food is subpar, drinks are weak and I got charged $3 for ice in a drink. I will explain more below. Ambiance is great - kinda small but cozy so great for date night or causal stop in while on the square. That's about it for the positives. Food is mediocre. Korean inspired dishes that are weak. The pork and lettuce wraps were bland. The pork was dry over cooked and onions lacked flavor. Got the 14 oz rib eye and it was thin sad piece of meat - over cooked in some spots and under in others. Nice smoke flavor where you could find it but otherwise non-eventful. The braised short ribs were good well cooked dish I'd recommend this if you were here. The kimchi collard greens sounded interesting but it was just kimchi. So disappointing. The drinks were weak. We had the Asian medicine which was ok a bit watery but better than the f-train. Not sure what f-train was but had no taste and watery. I don't recommend it. We ordered a dirty martini. Got it served in a glass along type of ice you'd see in an old fashioned. Thought it was weird but thought they were doing something to be different and non traditional. For some odd reason it was $3 for the ice. We didn't ask for it to be served this way. We didn't ask for ice. Who the hell would it's a damn martini which shouldn't be shaken by the way you stir it. That's why Bond had to say it since it's not the traditional method of making it. Everything went well. The ambiance was laid back, the music was Excellent, impeccable service, and the food was on 10! Leon made this experience special. He said "Yes" to all of our requests. I requested oyster rockafella, which was not on the menu, but it made it happen. These were the best broiled oysters I've ever tasted. The entire staff was phenomenal! First of all let me say the staff was all really lovely- I felt like a valued customer from the moment we walked in. Our waitress was super friendly and really nice. The cocktails we started with were fantastic- the strawberry fields forever cocktail was the best! I could have drank a few of these!! Real fresh strawberry flavor. My second cocktail Seoul of São Paulo was also very fresh tasting but it was a bit strong for me Normally I'm not an oyster person, but I heard that they were known for them so when my friend ordered oysters Rockefeller I tried one, and I guess it was good, but I'm still not an oyster fan, even cooked. The seasonings, cheese and butter were very tasty on it though. They don't serve them in the shell but on a plate like escargot style just FYI. Then my friend and I split the arugula salad (the full portion is definitely very generous and our waitress said it was perfect for sharing so they went ahead and plated it separately for us) and it was fantastic, I ate every scrap of leaf and pistachio crumb on that plate! For my entree I got the grilled salmon with spicy kimchi fried rice- lots of great teriyaki flavor and the rice was delicious. Our food and drinks were all very yummy. Only noticed that the food and drinks took longer to arrive after ordering than what seemed normal. I ordered a drink near the end of my meal and the others at the table ordered and received and ate the entire dessert before my drink arrived to the table. I almost had to tell them to cancel it. Inside was nice and okay, but we did have to ask them to clean our table as there was dried on food on it. If there had been no long waits and if the table had been clean, would have gotten 5 stars. read more

What a treasure in downtown Duluth!! Public parking right behind it.. there are street parking around but all with such limited parking (one of the cons). We sat out in the patio with our little dog. They open at 5pm and we got there at 5:30pm with an appointment for specifically the patio since we were coming with a dog. Yet, no tables were set up outside -- the host had forgotten we requested the patio. I was kind of thrown off by that, but it was quickly made up by their super nice waiter and of course the food. Wednesday happy hour included a discount in the oyster price as well as a 50% off wine bottles (no one told us about the wine discount though and we found ourselves through the check...). But again, everything was made up by the food.. We ordered the oysters, grilled octopus, duck breast, and scallops! I'm not a big fan of duck, but this was delicious! Not extremely chewy and doesn't have the smell. Flavors weren't too strong for all dishes. Definitely will visit again to try more of their menu BUT I will not sit outside again. Their patio was nice and big, especially since we were the only ones seated outside. But, we realized there was a reason no one sat outside. There were so many bugs around us. Bugs flew into our drinks, I had flies sitting on my food and little fruit flies or gnats and mosquitoes were just flying all around us. Apparently there was a rosemary bush that attracted all the bugs, but it was just too much. If we hadn't sat outside, it would've been a perfect date night. read more

Very disappointing experience. We came in on a weekday for dinner. The hostess was short with us and said they don't have tables even though I saw empty tables. I asked about the bar which was empty too and she said it was occupied too. I understand if those were reserved but as soon as we were about to walk out the door the manager ran over to us and told us they had tables available. It sounded like she just didn't was us to be seated. Hostess pretended like nothing happened and proceeded to seat us. I saw other a couple people come in after us without reservations and we're seated right away by the same hostess. The charcuterie was overpriced and underwhelming to say the least. My wife brought me to Noona for a date night and it was such a treat. Walking in you can see decorated chandeliers. When looking closer at it, it reminded me of being on a ship, but at the same time a hunting lodge which goes exactly the theme of the restaurant. We had reservations, so we were immediately seated. I ordered the Asian Medicine (Penicillin) drink which was very tasty, sort of reminded me of honey mixed with water. We had a gameplan when coming here. We knew what we wanted to try and we stuck to it! Even though we knew that Noona is known for their steaks (I mean, Meat..) we decided for us to try the most amount of stuff we wanted to stick to just appetizers. Thus, we ordered from the appetizers: Oysters (Dozen, half + half) - I believe half were from Chesapeake bay and the other Long Island? I enjoyed every single morsel. Beef Tartare - Pretty simple, came with some bread, but the tartare was mixed in with some mustard seeds and well flavored. Mussels - BY FAR, this is a HAVE TO get appetizer. The bowl came filled, and reminded me of a classic Belgium pot of mussels. I would definitely say that if you were to get any appetizers (other than oysters during oyster season), this would have to be it. The amount that you get along with just the sauce with it to dip your bread in won it over for me. Blackened Tuna - I enjoyed the salsa that came with this but otherwise nothing too crazy. The tuna was perfectly cooked and was tasty. For an entree, we decided to share a braised short rib (that caught my eye when glancing on the menu) and as a couple of sides we shared the cheese corn along with some scallops. The braised short rib wasn't bad, glazed, however the downfall for this dish for me were the carrots. They were absolutely way over-salted, like almost the chef forgot that they had already seasoned it and seasoned it twice. However, the short rib itself was great, bit sweet, but the mash potatoes helped with the sweetness. The cheese corn was pretty great, you can tell that the corn was not from a packet and that they really shave the kernels from real corn. The natural sweetness also bursted out and cut through the cheese. The scallops were also pretty amazing, it was charred and had that nice grilled taste from it. Real simplistic, but it really showed how well it was cooked. Overall, Noona was great and an amazing addition to downtown Duluth. Would I come back? Absolutely, just for those mussels. Definitely would recommend if you want to try out a Korean flair to the normal steak and seafood restaurant. read more

One of my new favorite places! I love seafood especially raw oysters, so naturally, it's what I wanted for my birthday dinner. We made reservations for an early Saturday dinner and were seated immediately. The place wasn't busy yet, but there were already a few diners there. There's plenty of parking around Parson's Alley. Let me start by saying the service was excellent! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The bar manager was our server and the owner checked on us a few times and even refilled our water. For starters, we ordered 1/2 dozen raw oysters & the broiled (classic style) oysters. Raw oysters were good, but the broiled oysters (not pictured) were way over-salted and swimming in butter. The Lamb Pasta did not have as much lamb or gochugaru as I'd hoped, and overall lacked flavor. Wished there was more parm, spice, and that the pasta itself had more of a bite to it. My boyfriend ordered the ribeye steak though, which was seasoned well and cooked perfectly medium rare. Maybe if we'd gotten other dishes we would've enjoyed the food more. I happened upon this place on Valentine's Day and waited briefly because we started so late. This is a very charming little restaurant with great service and unique food. I'm sure the regular menu is delicious as well, but for around $65 or so we got: Polenta Kimchi Fried Rice Oysters (3) Flounder deep fried, stuffed with crab Braised Beef Cheesecake and Tiramisu I added a Strawberry cocktail which tasted exactly like a strawberry - I don't know how much alcohol was in it. :D But it was good. All in all we had a wonderful dinner, there are small Korean hints in their signature dishes (okay kimchi fried rice is hardly a hint) and we found everything to our liking. Went with group of 7 this past week and I and my son were disappointed to say the least. Menu is limited and way over priced for what you get. The quality of the ribeye's were at best average and very thin for the $60 they charge. I ordered a NY strip and they brought me a ribeye that was good, but had way to much gristle in it. I figured for the price it should have been thicker and of better quality. Didn't say anything about the wrong steak because I didn't want to make a scene or have to wait for another correct steak. My son had the muscle appetizer that had 2 muscles in it that weren't opened completely and ended up making him sick. Lesson learned about muscles I guess. Tasted great, but, not worth getting sick over. Service was very good, but not good enough to make up for all the missteps. All ala carte menu. If I were at Chops for example, the prices would be in line, but not here. In conclusion, there are way better places to eat in this area of better quality, and less pricey, for what kind of quality food you get here. Won't be going back there anytime soon. read more

Can you say ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS?! That's all I can really say at the moment at how delicious everything was. Here's how the experience went: We went on a Thu night and I'm glad we did because it really weren't that many people there. The staff had time to pay extra attention to us which I appreciated. For starters we got the charcuterie board, which had a bunch of different meats and cheeses. Sauces were also on it like dijon mustard. We also ordered the caesar salad. No lie, that was probably one of the best caesar salads I've ever had. As a note, it's enough of a serving to share between 2-3 people, especially if you order an appetizer. Next came out our entrees. We ordered the rib eye with the kimchi collard greens and mashed potatoes. I had a chance to try my partner's greens and OMG were they good. I was very skeptical at first, but it's seriously like a burst of flavor eat them. I'd give them a 9 out of 10. I did not try the rib eye or the mashed potatoes but my boyfriend didn't seem to mind. Now onto my entree, the braised short rib. Listen to me when I say DONT ORDER ANYTHING ELSE ON THE MENU. If you eat meat, you need to order the braised short rib. It was so good, my boyfriend wouldn't stop putting his fork in my plate. The serving is enough for leftovers and again, it is sooooo delicious. Have to admit that I was disappointed to find this restaurant changed their menu and roasted oysters are no longer an option. However, despite the limited menu, EVERYTHING that my group of 5 ordered was wonderful! The mussels were fresh with a red sauce that was to die for. The 8 oz filet was cooked perfectly and paired with the cheesy corn side dish which i highly recommend. The salmon portion was generous as well as the Ribeye BiBiMBAP bowl. Started dinner service with the mushroom crostini and shrimp cocktail. Couple of rounds of the Strawberry-Basil cocktails and we all left more than satisfied. It's a beautiful and quaint restaurant with eclectic decor. We had a reservation for 7pm and the host promptly seated us at a cozy table. We started with cocktails: he had the old-fashioned and I had the strawberry fields forever. My drink was delicious but came without a garnish. Presentation is everything to me. My second drink was a lemon drop martini since they were out of moscato. Delicious sugar rim, lemon peel garnish, and strong. We had the oysters appetizer since oysters are their specialty and they mostly originate from The Chesapeake Bay and Virginia region. The oysters were very good! I eat oysters regularly and these were so smooth and silky. It came with several garnish options including: vinegar dropper, horseradish, cocktail sauce, lemon wedges, and a cute saucer of goldfish. I had the scallops as my main entree with a side of kimchi fried rice. The scallops were 4-5 total served on a bed of beans, corn and onions vegetable medley. He wanted the short rib but unfortunately they ran out so he opted for the ribeye steak medium rare. The steak tasted very fatty and I wasn't a fan. To make up for the missing menu items, our waitress kindly brought us a chocolate molten lava cake. It was covered in icing and powdered sugar and it was decadently sweet. Most awesome oyster happy hour. Happy hour is every day, including weekend. I believe the hours are from 4-6pm. And on my visit, I had 2 doz of bluepoints. You may not get bluepoints on your visit, but I lucked out. $1/bluepoint and they were deeeeelicious. I also enjoyed the happy hour cocktails. My old fashion was good, and so was the martini. I guess we lingered a little longer and decided to get dinner here as well. We had a few appetizers, but the most memorable part of the meal , was our Wagyu burger. Beefiness concentrated, on a soft fluffy brioche and , they had bacon jam spread on the bottom. That bacon jam is the magic. It adds a layer of sweetness, smokiness and ups the savory factor by 10. There is street parking close by the restaurant as well as more public parking a bit if a walk. This is located across the street from downtown Duluth park. The area is really cute for a walk after/before eating! The atmosphere is very cozy upon walking in. We did have a reservation so we're seated right away. All the staff wore masks but I would say the tables aren't very socially distanced given the space is pretty limited inside. Asian medicine: delicious cocktail and pretty strong too. I couldn't really taste the ginger, but could taste the lemon and a hint of the honey. Hearth Grilled Octopus: the flavor was really nice but a bit chewy for my liking. Gochujang Shrimp Scampi: loved it! Very flavorful and good sized shrimps. You can dip the bread into the sauce. Grilled Salmon: the salmon was nicely cooked and paired well with the slightly sour kimchi fried rice. When you eat the parts of the salmon with the chili sauce you can taste a hint of spiciness. Sea bass: melts in your mouth, lightly seasoned, and paired with Brussel sprouts. Cheesecake: was okay to me, I usually prefer the bottom to be more crunchy but this one was mushy. Chocolate cake: very rich in flavor. If you like chocolate you will love it! Apple tart: was a nice refresher between the other two more sweet desserts. Comes with a scoop of ice cream. Let me tell you about Noona! I'll start of with the fact that this was not what I was expecting, in regard to ambiance, however, it surpassed my expectations! The vibe is welcoming, soulful, and soft romantic (meaning, great date night location, but no white table cloths). The wooden charm of the decor gave me the feeling of a secluded boat house in the woods, with top notch food and service! The servers are quite diverse, with the Executive chef and Sous chef being African American and Hispanic. The music selection was Motown and R&B. It was a great space and energy. Me and my date came for our anniversary dinner, we had reservations ahead of time and were seated immediately upon arrival. We started off with wine and cocktails (highly recommended the signature strawberry drink), and appetizers of mussels and oysters. The Parmesan oysters were our favorite. For the main courses, we shared scallops and the pork belly lettuce wraps with a side of the cheesy corn. I don't know what they did to make the cheesy corn so delicious, but I'd order just that and the oysters and be in heaven!!! We finished our evening off with the bourbon bread pudding, and it was scrumptious! Overall, I have no concerns, complaints or qualms. The dishes my partner and I ordered: 1/2 dozen broiled oysters (rockefeller), Gochujang shrimp scampi, surf and turf, and grilled salmon. The service was a little slow. We had a reservation at 7:15. We got there around 7:10. We did not leave until 9:30pm. Personally, that is just too long to be at a restaurant given any plans to pursue afterward. Perhaps this might be acceptable to others if they truly enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant. It is not a fast food diner. Thus, you spend time here chatting and relaxing without being mindful of the time. Noonas claims to have "cross cultural marriage of dining concepts." However, the food sort of fell short of this concept. I will say that not all of the dishes I ordered did I expect a more Korean twist to the dishes, but even the kimchi fried rice and gochujang shrimp just didn't seem to do the Korean flavors justice. I felt that a lot could be played with and bolder! The rockefeller oysters were better than both my and my partner's entrée. The only thing I liked on my partners plate was the lobster. For a steak, it lacked seasoning. The smashed potatoes are just potatoes, nothing special. The kimchi collared greens were slightly interesting, but we hardly took more than two or three bites of it. I ordered a cocktail, the Asian medicine, and I was pretty happy with the drink. It was just as our server described it to be. Citrusy and refreshing without an overpowering flavor that you'd expect from the name of the drink. I understand that the menu is subject to change, so perhaps we are simply not impressed by these particular menu selections. However, for the kind of price we paid, I'm not so sure about revisiting. The entire downtown district is worth the venture. So right off the bat. I'll mention this place is a bit on the pricy side which is to be expected for what they are offering. With that out the way, let's see how well they did. First of all, they did an excellent job with their interior design. It's modern and chic without being overly luxurious. Really liked the natural lighting of this place. The menu is a mix of traditional steakhouse favorites along with seafood and some Korean/East Asian fusion. There's also a drinks menu which is mostly beer, cocktails, and wine. All items seem to be sourced from quality ingredients and are presented quite well. They have a daily happy hour from 4-6PM for $1 oysters. Highly recommend coming here just for that alone. They serve some high quality raw oysters here. Overall, I did have a great experience here. You get great service that matches the price tag. Food and presentation was on point and all this while in a nice and cool atmosphere. They really set the tone here. Definitely worth checking out in my opinion. This place is easily in my top 3. I've just had an amazing dinner both experience and food-wise. I'm Korean so I was immediately drawn to the fact that they fused Korean ingredients into their dishes. This is the place where you take anyone that is afraid of trying out a foreign cuisine. They did a nice job mixing high-end American recipes with a touch of Korean inspiration. I have to mention the quality of service I got from Jae as well. She was our server and she was very thorough with the menu, not to mention such a warm welcome she gave us. She recommended a few items, and they were all bomb. I'm definitely visiting again to try out other dishes and hopefully Jae will be there to serve us again! This was my 4th or 5th visit and it seems like they've gone downhill. We were enjoying our time at the city hall and decided to drop in for oysters and wine without reservations. Upon walking in, the hostess decided to seat the pair behind us before seating us (who did not have reservations either). For an establishment that advertises oysters so much, they only had gulf coast oysters. We tried to enjoy oysters on the half shell and some charbroiled oysters which lacked flavor. Service was lackluster as well. We ordered a bottle of white wine and was not offered a wine cooler..never got cocktail forks either. I don't write negative reviews because I figure everyone has good and bad days and everyone has the things that tick the boxes for them so I don't want to mess with that. But, I've got to make an exception for Noona because I don't want others to fall prey to this mess of a place. I'll skip straight to the end. It was Applebee's quality food but with service that fell short of Applebees. Food first. My wife had Amberjack which was just fine. No issues here, and nothing exciting either. I had the Strip. It was a very simple cut straight from the cooler at Kroger. Last weekend we dined at Salt Factory which has meats provided by Linz and these were worlds apart in quality. It had no seasoning whatsoever and was a tasteless piece of fairly dry meat but in fairness, it was spot on the medium I ordered. I chose Pomme Frites as a side to the steak and just shook my head, no really, palm in face shook my head when I watched the fry cook slice open a bag of frozen fries and dump them in the fryer. $10 for frozen fries with a cup of mayo on the side. I would chalk this up to a lesson learned except for two things. Our meal, two entrees and one side, and two cokes were $95. I've had so much better at $80 with 2-3 cocktails at so many other places in the northern OTP. Our server fell short of expectations too. I had to go up to him at the bar after he spent 10 minutes chatting up the chefs at the grill station and finally chasing him down another 10 minutes later while he was hitting on the bartender, so I could pay for our meal. I've read lots of bashing reviews online about places that had 4-5 stars and wondered what was up with the 1-star review folks. All I can say is this is an honest review. read more

Excellent food, but with a slight issue. My wife and I are visiting from out of town and are thinking of moving to Duluth, so we are exploring the best it has to offer. Noona came highly recommended. As we entered, I smelled the wood fired grill engulfing the air. I was excited. I wanted to take some photos, but I was asked to put my camera away. After asking if they didn't allow photos for Instagram or social, they told me they do, but only with a cell phone. Noona would have easily earned 5 stars from me, but I had to dock them a star for being somewhat uptight about our visit. read more
