It was nice to have when it was Nimers and now it's a great upscale market with fresh bananas and lots of grocery items to choose from in the small NoPa spot. Really great selection of beer over here. Local stuff like Bare Bottle, Faction, Laughing Monk, Great Notion, and Alvarado Street just to name a few. Also have good variety of energy drinks here too. I bought a can of Rainbow Sherbert Gym Weed energy drink and was just enough to keep me energized but not too wired. It's no longer "Nimer's Market": It's "NOPA Corner Market" that changed hands a year ago. It's been revamped, restocked and made tidy by a delightful new owner who's put a lot of sweat equity into her business. Prices seem reasonable; you might be paying a dollar more here and there but that's to be expected for a convenience store (because you're paying for the convenience!) What I immediately noticed when I walked in is the cleanliness of the store and the depth of its stock. The owner clearly has pride in her business, from its dust-free shelves to its new, snappy, striped awning. To my eyes, NCM carries an unusually large selection of scotch (seriously, a giant wall of it behind the register!) as well as an impressive selection of chilled wine and beer. I was too scattered to note whether NOPA Corner Market carries selected produce; I'll take a closer look next time. They're not open until 11am- but they close late at midnight (or 1am weekends). read more

This market is such an adorable community resource. They're superbly stocked with niche items - that you often can only find at bigger grocery stores in the city like Bi Rite or Rainbow. What a gem! If bi-rite and a corner store had a baby this is it but with a way better natural wine selection - and I mean excellent. I joined a natural wine club because I couldn't find their wine at retail and here it is just a few blocks from me. NOPA Corner Market is the best neighborhood shop in all of San Francisco. High quality, unique, lots of indie brands, and reasonably priced. Corner markets often charge airport prices so I was surprised to see bananas for 50 cents and Olipop for $2.99, which is the same if you buy from Olipop directly. The cold drinks section is a sight to behold. Seriously. So many interesting and fun options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I also love their friendly, helpful staff. The market is on the corner of my street. It also serves as a UPS access point, except it's quite challenging to find and get packages from them. Today, their staff, Chris, that I see there on most days, didn't release my package even with my ID because it didn't have my name on it (the UPS person added a label with their name Nopa Corner Market over the label with my name which they often do). Also, at some point out of nowhere the guy starts yelling it's not his problem the name is not on it and that he can't release it (not true, verified with UPS, they are required to release the package with a verification of a name on an ID, no address is needed, they should see my name when they scan the package). After I tell him I understand it's not his fault the name isn't on it and ask him if he can see my name when he scans the label, he doesn't answer and becomes aggressive and yells something unrelated. At that point his speech is not even directed at me and I realize this guy either has some serious personal issues, is not in his right mind, or he's on something. Feeling quite unsafe I leave the store and I still hear him yelling minutes later from afar. Even in the past this guy was never helpful when I asked where to find certain products, he always made it clear he didn't want to be there (unlike the other guy I also see there sometimes who is super chill and always helpful). So I certainly won't be buying anything from the store again (and will use a different access point to deliver to) which is too bad because it's so close to my house and I like their selection. I was a frequent shopper at this market but safety comes first and with this crazy guy at the store it's certainly not safe. Thankfully, there are many other options around. read more

Mike, the often mentioned owner in the other reviews, is great. He is open until 2 AM - which is perfect to grab some things as the bars close for your after party. Not only that, but since he is always there he looks out for the 'hood. My sis lives across the way and I truly believe he is looking out for her and her building-mates. Jordanian Mike (Nimer is Tiger in Arabic) has everything - yes all the alcohol needs, but also frozen foods, milk and snacks. Perfect for late night munchies as well! Yes, things there are overpriced but have you ever been to a corner liquor store in SF that wasn't? FYI - when you need a deck of cards at midnight for more drinking games -- Nimer's is open and ready to fulfill all your needs. read more

I'll admit that I talked a lot of trash about this place before ever stepping foot inside it. Now that I've been here, I'll continue talking trash, but trash-talking isn't inherently bad. This corner store makes me feel unsafe. Not because I'm afraid of the people working here or that the rickety shelves might give way and I might be crushed under a rain of rusty tomato-sauce cans. No, I'm afraid of this place because it seems like an easy place to rob. Now, that kind of adds to its attraction for me because when I was in college I used to go to a 7-Eleven that was really dangerous, and I was always scared but also loved the feeling of pulling out of the parking lot without having witnessed an armed robbery. But what really makes Nimer's so special is that it feels like it hasn't changed at all since 1976. That includes the owner's hair. If you're nearsighted, do yourself a favor and walk into Nimer's without your glasses on. The benefit of the blurry vision is that you won't see the 2009 brands and prices all over the shelves. Then, when you get to the cash register, put your glasses on. You'll love the owner and thank John S. for giving you a fun and interesting Western Addition project. Nimer's is fantastic. Plain and simple. I don't mind that they don't open until the mid-afternoon (usually around 3pm, sometimes a little later, sometimes a little earlier - it all depends), because I only go there at night if I need a snack or a drink. Everyone in the family is really nice and they will remember your face if you are a regular in there (like we are) and if you ever see them outside of the business, they will always say hi. All in all it's a nice place, and they have a vast selection of alcohol and wine for you booze hounds :) Their prices can be a little high, but it is a convenience store and it is in San Francisco. Also there is a $10 minimum if you are using a credit/debit card. For those of you non Wamu users there is an ATM outside, but I don't know their fee and sometimes I do see that it's not working, but it's always fixed within a day or so. As a traveling pet sitter and an SF local, i love having these neighborhood markets that are open late and conveniently located near my clients should i forget to bring something from home or even if i'm just craving a midnight snack. Today my husband and I decided we wanted some chips and walked a block down to find they had a lot more than just that. Not only was there a large selection of higher quality chips and snacks but they also carry natural items, Dave's killer bread, cupcakes, natural soda's, kombucha, and plenty of other items you wouldn't find in most liquor stores. Of course, prices will be slightly higher for convenience but not many places that would carry items for the health conscious snackers stay open as late. The women at the counter was very friendly and even offered a snack suggestion I wasn't aware of. I also told her about one of my favorite snack combos in HS which is Flamin' hot cheetos dipped in cream cheese. Nimer's is one of my two corner stores. It seems everyone has an opinion on Nimer's country of origin (most seem to think he's Eastern Euro, and I thought so too) but I asked him about a year ago and he told me he's from Jordan. It didn't really compute but there you go. North African. Anyway. I, like Martin C., recently had a purchase totalling $6.66. It was a bottle of Tisdale Shiraz and a packet of peanuts. Good meal, by the way! So, Nimer totals it up and I look at him with furrowed brows. As I contemplate whether to get another bottle of wine or another packet of peanuts, Nimer says, "I'll make it $6.65 to save you the bad omen." And on we go. Great selection, great service. I like Nimer. One star missing because on multiple cheese craving runs over the past year they have consistently failed to have any cheese that is not expired. But to his credit, Nimer refuses to sell the old cheese to me at a discounted price every time, citing health codes. Cheese. Yum. read more

All in all a pretty good corner store. If you're a beer geek and you live in NOPA this should be a stop for you. Great selection of Stone brews among other great breweries. The guy that runs it seems pretty nice and I have yet to run into any of the aforementioned problems with out of state ID's (He cheerfully swiped my Texas drivers license through the card reader and that was that). This is generally where I go for late-night stuff, because it's open and it usually has what I need. And the prices are pretty good, for a corner store. Also, I like the owner and his family. One or more of them are always there, watching TV shows in a language I don't know, looking up to nod and say hi as I walk in. Sometimes the person ringing me up barely looks away from the TV to do so, but somehow it never feels unfriendly or rude -- just casual and comfortable. Near my apartment, open late, decent prices, friendly workers. They lose one star for me because they run out of certain things too regularly (GIVE ME MY COKE ZERO, I NEED MY 2AM COKE ZERO), and very occasionally there are ONLY younger people at the counter (late teens/early 20s-ish) and they come across kinda hostile. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! These people Profile and harass customers. I walked in, about 30 minutes ago and was deciding wether or not i wanted to purchase something, and decided i didnt. About 10 minutes after coming in i had a handful of things ready to buy. The woman working was rude and after she rung me up she said to me 'what about the beer?' I said 'what beer' she proceeded to insist she had me on camera stealing the beer. So i calmly e pied my pockets and said 'look i think theres been a mis understanding i dont have anything other than what i put on the counter' she said 'well i cant search you bag' and i said 'yes you can actually.' So i literally emptied all my shit on the counter and she got upset and kicked me out because she didn't catch me stealing as she accused. This place is awful and i enjoyed shopping here until this. Mike, the owner of the joint, who I think is the Jordanian David Crosby, always greets me with a warm welcome and sometimes lets me have some things on the house which is much appreciated. His family that's usually always there as well are also very friendly. Big selection of beer and liquor. I mean you can go to any corner bodega, right? It really doesn't matter but Mike is a cool dude and he has personality. ....the only pain point I have to mention is that he doesn't usually open till the late afternoon so if you need something in the morning or midday you have to trek to Lucky or another corner store. Not a big deal but if it's a Saturday at noon and you're super hung over and need something to cure your parched and dehydrated self then having to walk the extra block or two can be painful. read more
