This place deserves 10 stars Reason number 1 the owner Nora is one of the sweetest people I have ever met she called me superwoman and was so sweet giving me a sample of her homemade bun and cheese on Easter morning. (Which was delicious) Reason number 2 the quality and taste of the food was delicious I mean never have I tasted a better piece of jerk chicken (highly recommended) I ordered jerk chicken curry chicken and oxtails and bun and cheese and a few homemade drinks including the homemade ginger beer (I need that recipe) all were so good. Ate at Norah's again today. The food again was excellent. I tried the jerk pork and my wife tried a new dish that Norah created during the week. Imagine Chinese sweet and sour chicken and then Jamaica-fying the recipe. Absolutely awesome. The food is served piping hot because it is prepared when you order. This pleasant little restaurant is in the middle of a residential neighborhood. We went on a Thursday and it was empty, but we were greeted warmly by Norah and she helped direct us to several dishes which I would also recommend. My favorite was the roasted pork dish, but my daughter and her friend really liked the jerk chicken. We tried the Oxtail and it was good too. The plantains were a nice addition as was the homemade juices. Sorrel and ginger beer were a hit with my daughter and her friend. The atmosphere was cheerful and pleasant, although the A/C struggled on this hot day and it was too warm for a group that intended to eat there. This is casual, friendly dining so don't expect linen table cloths and fine china, but that was OK for us. My daughter and I took a ride to Norah's Irie during the holiday break in December. All of the fantastic reviews were right on the money! The restaurant is cozy, decorated in beautiful vibrant colors and there were reggae style versions of popular Christmas songs playing. Norah greeted us warmly as soon as we stepped in and we immediately felt very comfortable. I had the curry chicken and ginger beer while my daughter had the oxtail and a red tea like drink with a slight cranberry taste (can't recall the name). Both dishes came with Jamaican rice and beans. The curry chicken was so flavorful and paired well with the ginger beer. The oxtail was very tender and delectable as well. Norah let us sample some delicious freshly baked cookies for dessert. I visited this restaurant on a Friday. I was interested in trying some Jamaican food after recently visiting Montego Bay. My significant other and I walked in, there was a band setting up and other guest coming in with BYOB.. My boyfriend and I were greeted by a young woman who asks could she take our order. The total for 1 large entree of oxtails and stewed beef. A small stew chicken and 3 patties and 1 large homemade carrot juice came to 75.00$ yes 75.00$ for that! My boyfriend and I looked at one another as if we didn't hear her correctly! We then promoted to ask her why was the total 75.00$ SHE THEN PROMPTED TO SAY THAT SINCE IT WAS A SPECIAL EVENT GOING ON THAT NIGHT THAT ALL MEALS WERE 20$ each. So ok i had no problem paying for the food but for her to wait till we ordered and at the end of us getting ready to pay to tell us that information. I was upset because that was poor business. When doing something of that nature you must advertise the change in prices for the time prices are subject to change! No where on the menu or anywhere in sight on the premises stated this information! After questioning the young lady, she gave a snotty attitude which is why I have chosen to not support any business that tries to get over on their customers which keep their business afloat.. Came here late last night when craving something other than hot dogs and fries on the shore. What a fantastic decision. The decor isn't anything to marvel at and looks pieced together at best. But OH BOY those smells that wafted through the space were absolutely amazing. I ordered a small oxtail and it came with plantains, rice & beans, and some sort of cabbage and pea slaw. The oxtail fell apart and the portions were hefty. The best part about this though was the sweet as honey woman behind the counter. When I told her I came here because of Yelp, she nearly jumped from behind the counter to give me a kiss on the cheek. You can just tell she loves cooking, meeting new people, and sharing her love of the Islands with others. It is our favorite place -- every time I visit from PA, this is where we want to go. The owners and chefs are warm and friendly - a son and his Mom - and they make delicious, wholesome, home-style Jamaican cuisine. Nothing in the area compares. Ox tail, chicken, jerk style, with rice, beans and onions --- it's all excellent and unsurpassed. Portions are very large, and prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity. I tried several Jamaican / Carribean places around my area, and so far this is the only one, that I felt very warm and welcoming almost felt like home with mom. I ordered some take home goat, oxtails, beef patties and coco bread. The goat and oxtails were plenty and have the right heat/spices for my taste. They taste delicious! They are not dried up and have the right softness to bite into. The warm coco bread wrap into the patties hit the right target as it was already lunch and have to drive home. Coming from the hustle and bustle of New York City, my mind was blown. It is truly a hidden gem, and I could not be happier to have been able to experience this. The food is off the charts, the spices and flavors are a kick in the mouth. It is unlike anything I have ever tasted before (I ordered the jerk chicken and my boyfriend got the bbq ribs). The people who work there are amazing, they were so genuine and hospitable to us. We had an early dinner/late lunch on December 27, 2018. We enjoy Jamaican food and lament the closing of the Blue Marlin in Bradley Beach. We were pleased to find Norah's Irie and we discovered that the food there was delicious and authentically Jamaican. The goat curry and the jerk chicken were both excellent. This is a real hidden gem of Long Branch. I have a particular affinity for Jamican food, and Norah's does not fail to deliver. The ambiance is pure Jamaica, almost like stepping into a home. The prices are also very reasonable. The best dish on the menu is the curry goat. It comes with a large portion, if you want your can order the "large plate" which gets you a good amount of extra meat. The fried fish is also very tasty, and Norah will even teach young children how to "cut the fish, and be the master of that fish". There are also many juices that Norah makes fresh that are refreshing and have interesting tastes. Norah is a great woman who has talked to me many times. This gem was AMAZING. My girlfriend and I went based on Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. We got the large oxtail in stew form. It was phenomenal - food was ready in less than five minutes, it tasted organic and healthy. The meat was so tender and there was a super fair serving size. My fiancé and I tried Norah's tonight for dinner. We decided to eat there rather than take food out as we've heard how pleasant Norah is and to see what she recommended. We were greeted by Norah as soon as we walked in with a huge smile. She was excited it was our first time there and told us about each dish. We started out with a Jamaican chicken patty and jerk chicken side. Both were tasty. The jerk chicken was tender and spicy!! For our meals I had the shrimp curry dish which came with a generous portion of cabbage, plantains and some rice. The curry was fantastic and full of flavor. My fiancé got oxtails in Brown stew. He really enjoyed it. I did try some of his sauce and it was very flavorful as well. Afterwards, Norah came and sat with us when she brought us some of her carrot cake to try. It was similar to pumpkin pie filling, but made with carrots and spices that tasted like ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. Delicious! So glad I could squeeze a little dessert into my stomach. We talked with Norah for about 20 minutes before leaving. What a truly genuine and nice human being! She truly made the entire experience that much better. Would recommend to anyone! Split Norah's homemade beef patty to start the meal which was almost too delicious to describe followed by the meal and then enjoyed the warm carrot cake more like a spicy carrot pudding.
