Don't let the building face and interior fool you. They know how to cook!! I've had a few flavors of jersey chicken before, and this ranks as one of my favorites. The casual service makes you feel like your family at the cookout. It's informal, but they're still polite and accommodating. Ordered the jerk chicken meal, meat pie, macaroni pie, and the pineapple wings. The jerk chicken was more bones than meat and mostly just tasted very charred, no depth of flavor. The red beans and rice that it came with also lacked flavor and the rice was very slightly over cooked. The cabbage was just plain, boiled cabbage, but that's fine and helped cut the chicken flavor. The meat pie didn't taste much like anything and the macaroni pie was pretty dry, some of the pasta not cooked all of the way. The wings were okay sized and arrived hot; but again, the pineapple flavor didn't really come through. I also got the side of fish which had no description so I wasn't sure what I would get. Nice, friendly place on Main Street. Places like this need our support. I first experienced Mark's during The Taste of Asbury and found it to have one of the best food samples of all the other restaurants. Mark's is on the west side of Main Street, near The Saint, and the area can look a little sketchy at night. More people need to come in and try their food and help to continue the revitalization of Asbury Park. Now, for my food. I chose the Jerk Chicken Wrap and it was terrific! There is something nice about waiting a few minutes for your food when you know it is being prepared for you and not just taken out of a bucket or pan of prepared food. I read the reviews on this place and decided I would try it out . I dont regret it at all ! The customer service was beyond amazing and the jerk chicken melted in my mouth . I'm surprised how this place isn't more popular- stumbled into this place when I googled Caribbean food having grown tired of The Islander (another carib restaurant nearby) lunch specials. Came here and ordered the small Jerk Chicken/BBQ chicken half-half with rice and beans. Jerk Chicken being the standard for measurement in my rating, I can say that this is the best Jerk I've had- crisp on the outside, fall-off-the-bone tender on the inside. Mark is also very generous with his helpings and ladles out hugeass portions if you're an eater, while being really congenial otherwise- a very welcoming place. Definitely going back for more! Update: I have since started preferring the 5 dollar Munch-n-Go option for lunch which is rice and Curry chicken with a free soda. The portions are finally human. read more

9/28/21 I haven't been to Mark's in a while since we've moved. But today I want to curry. They have GrubHub, so it was perfect. I ordered a curry chicken jerk chicken and oxtail dinners. Everything was delicious; the food was hot, the meat was tender the portions were generous. It was so delicious I had to call the owner back and tell him how good the food was, and it came on time for GrubHub no drama. This is a great place if you're on a Jamaican kick and want some takeout with HUGE portions. Food 5/5: My girlfriend and I got the oxtail and curry goat. Bother we're super tender and literally the meat would fall off the bone. For oxtail, they give a massive portion with probably 6-7 pieces. The curry goat was also very good, it wasn't too salty which was great. It could've used more of a kick but it was still to die for. We also had the beef patties but they were nothing like the entrees. But we did come at the end of the day so they might have not been fresh. Price 5/5: The entrees are priced well, the oxtail was $13 for large and curry goat was $12 for large. The portions are HUGE so I would suggest getting the small. Recently been to Norah's also and this place gives better portions for less. So if you want takeout and more for your buck then go here! read more

Ordered a jerk chicken dinner and what I got was dry bland flavorless chicken, overcooked cabbage and rice that tasted like it was a week old. If it was actually cheap I'd be more forgiving but for 15 dollars a plate it's just not a good option. And they forgot my beef patty. Don't go here. One star is for the effort read more

When I looked up this restaurant I was prompted to make a reservation. So I did. But when I arrived it was as if I stepped into a old Chinese Restaurant. I ordered oxtail, stew chicken, jerk chicken, rices/peas, cabbage and plantains. Oxtail, tough, and had no taste and was pure bone. Stew chicken also had no taste, dry and was more bone then meat. The rice and peas was bland and just did not taste well. This is not Jamaican food and should be shut down. What a waste of money, gas, time and tastebuds. Went for lunch and enjoyed a jerk chicken wrap as well as a veggie wrap with Jan at this local eatery on main street in Asbury Park. The place was fine as well as the friendly service provided by Mark and the food tasty although the wraps were smallish and impossible to hold without falling apart. read more

I think that there are some key components to what makes a restaurants successful. You need a strong knowledge in product a variety of product and the product actually has to be good aside from that you also have to have dedicated workers who are humble and helpful. Mark's is a fragrant and inviting Jamaican eatery along the main strip in Asbury Park N.J.. Although the service was a bit lackadaisical, the food tasted very good and I was not disappointed. This is one of my favorite spots in Asbury. Food is always great. The menu has a wide array of choices. I highly recommend the Goat dishes, especially the Curry Goat Roti for $8.95. The Ox Tail is always delicious, get there early because it sells out fast. If you are trepidatious about trying new foods they have amazing Beef and chicken patties, Bbq chicken that is perfect and smothered in BBq sauce, jerk chicken, seafood dishes. The food is amazing but the help needs to be more focused. Interuptting a customer while ordering to ask a girl where shes going is not very focused on the business. I had called to make an order before I arrived and they told me to hold and forgot me on the phone so I ended up just coming in to order, only to have to repeat things because the employees obviuosly think little girls that come in are more important. When i got there to pick up my food they told me that they gave it to someone else and they didn't have any more to give me. Very disappointed they do not take care of their loyal customers. Great food and a hidden gem. Had the pineapple wings as an appetizer, delicious. Wings weren't over cooked and the sauce was like a pineapple barbecue sauce. I had the oxtail with rice and pigeon peas and plantains. My wife had the jerk chicken which had a nice kick to it, but not too spicy. Very generous portions.
