Love this place it's about 20 min from me, God food good service... BYOB is always fun lol

It's not the worst sushi I have had but it definitely is not a place I would visit again. Sushi rolls are lacking flavor and we're pretty much all rice. The spicy tuna, spicy mayo was super bland. Only visited this place because Aozora is closed on Tuesday's. If in Montclair and looking for good sushi Aozora is the way to go. These place can't even compare. Pretty good sushi, but not the best in town. They really don't do anything special but nothing is bad either. Personally, I prefer Dai Kichi or Nouveau Sushi. Both are better but more expensive. Nori isn't a bad choice though especially if cost is a consideration. read more

The only thing Japanese about this place was the music. The food was bland, the service was average, the sushi was not fresh. I really don't see how anyone could have given this place a good review. It was maybe one step up from grocery store sushi, although three steps up in price. read more

Previously, this was my go-to sushi of choice nearby. The service recently has improved and the sushi chefs are doing a great job with presentation and flavors. I had the eel avocado and eel cucumber rolls, which were great. The server had come back to our table throughout refilling our teas, asking if there was anything we needed. The service was prompt and the server, very polite. I am glad the service and quality are back as I remember it, only it's even better now. I'm now referring any previous Nori fans to go back today. They are clearly working hard and paying attention to customers. I will be a returning customer and remain as long this service continues. Great job Nori! read more

My family and I have been coming here for many years and we love it. The food is great. We get the usual appetizers, seaweed salad, gyoza, shumai, soup and various tempura and they have always been good. Yesterday we tried the beef sate on a stick, it was very delicious. The sushi rolls are always good. We like the regular stuff like California rolls, and eel cucumber, etc. Their "exotic rolls" really are fantastic, my favorite are the Nori delight and the Mango Spider but we have tried many in the past few years and have enjoy the majority of them. Also sitting at the sushi bar is fun and the chefs always make a nice presentation with fancy garnishes. The service has always been great at this place. I do not understand the bad reviews of the service. We have never been treated badly here. When my nephew was a little kid, (now he is a teenager) the waitresses would give him the small chopsticks for kids because he wanted to use chopsticks like everyone else. Very nice and efficient service. The prices at this place really cannot be beat. I have eaten at other sushi place and spent a lot more but did not like the food as much as this place. read more

What a disaster!...took my family here for the first time for my mom's birthday dinner and will never go back! For starters, there was no hostess at the booth when we arrived, and after waiting about five minutes, a server walks up and tried to seat the people at the end of the line behind me as opposed to the front of the line-STRIKE ONE...we ordered four appetizers and it wasn't until 40 minutes later that the first appetizer came out, crispy duck, and it was COLD-STRIKE TWO...waited another 15 minutes before the remaining appetizers came out...had to send back the rock shrimp because it was COLD-STRIKE THREE (and we haven't even gotten to dinner yet!)...finally a woman came over and apologized by saying the reason for the delay was due to the printer not working...that honestly doesn't make sense to me because the person who took the order hand wrote our order on a slip, so not sure how a printer not printing affected our order, nor does it explain our appetizers coming out cold...when I pointed out the cold rock shrimp, the woman did make sure we got a new hot order, but that didn't arrive til AFTER the actual dinner entrees arrived! ADDITIONALLY, we didn't get our salad until after the dinner entrees arrived and only AFTER we asked what happened to the salad...I felt so embarrassed taking my family to a birthday dinner with such poor customer service!!! Love their Wasabi shrimp! It's a BYOB place, so it's also great for the people who love wine with their meals. The staff is friendly, the food is seasoned perfectly and the service is fast. It's an all-around wonderful experience. Great for kids (they usually eat the hibachi rice, which is so good). read more

Nori is my go-to spot for sushi in Montclair. There are at least 3 other sushi restaurants on Bloomfield Ave but I haven't ventured away from Nori because I have eaten way too many questionable spicy tuna rolls in my life to take a risk on another random suburban sushi joint. The staff are incredibly efficient and polite and manage to get every table turned over in record time. Prices are on par with the neighborhood and, typical to this town, a bit more expensive than you would expect, thanks to the town liquor laws. For ease in BYOB, there is a liquor store a block down the street and a great wine store on Church, just a few blocks away. Don't forget to grab some old-timey mints by the door on your way out. read more

Came here for sushi tonight after going much too long without a good sushi meal in a while, so needless to say I was excited to eat here. I ordered the Montclair & the Krazy rolls with brown rice. I'm not exactly sure which roll was which once my plate arrived, but I will say that of the two I enjoyed the one that was physically bigger in size. As far as sushi goes, it was more middle of the road quality. Maybe I just need to try some different rolls in order to understand all of the excitement of this place, and I'd be willing to give it a second try! read more

Fan for the most part. Usually pretty fresh, but there has been a time or two where the sushi wasnt that great - never got sick or anything though. The lunch special is a steal at like $14 for 2 rolls - and you can get specialty rolls - not just the basic ones. Plus salad, soup and shumai. Its a huge meal and you will feel disgustingly full after - but I still eat it all. : P read more

The rolls are good, though nothing too remarkable. The entree I had wasn't so good (Salmon Lemongrass) though, and the service was also a little slow. There's a few other sushi restaurants in the area, which makes coming back here not make much sense. They have a range of unique rolls, but nothing that you can't ask most other sushi places to make. read more

There are few places I trust when it comes to my sushi. Nori is the most trustworthy. Not only is their staff friendly and attentive (my usual cup of green tea is almost never empty) but the food is outstanding on so many levels. It is prepared with the utmost care (just watch the master sushi chefs at work when you're sitting at your table) and all of the sushi that is sent out is a picture perfect beacon of quality. If you're a sushi-lover from the north New Jersey area and have not yet tried Nori Sushi in Montclair, I don't know why you're still sitting there. Get your finger on the phone and call up some friends, your significant other, or hell, somebody you haven't seen for a while. Delicious and creative sushi rolls and speedy delivery make this a go-to place for Japanese in Montclair. I really love the freshness of the ingredients and the miso soup is simple but delicious. My only qualm is that it's a bit pricy, but the food has been consistent to date. Try the Donkey Kong roll! read more

My cousin and I came here for our girls night out dinner and movie date. We actually almost did not eat here, we picked out another place to grab some sushi, but they ended up being closed (surprisingly on a Wednesday), so this was the next place we saw that served our favorite food. At first I was a little bit skeptical - for some reason I didn't think the food was going to be good - or should I say fresh. But once it hit the table I was proved wrong. Presentation was great and the sushi was very delicious and fresh! We had the Montclair, Rainbow, Knock Out and Titanic Roll. All four were good, but our least favorite was the Titanic Roll - the spicy tuna tasted a little off and the shrimp was a little over fried. The staff was so-so (not the friendliest) and the prices were reasonable. read more

I went there with my girlfriend and we thought the food was very good for themprice. The service was somewhat on the poor but the waitress later apologized because she had cut her finger and that is why we waited a while at the beginning. The specialty rolls were delicious. read more

The service and language skills at Nori leave much to be desired, to the extent that we almost got up and walked out, but the food.... The food is great, truly. Went in for an early lunch with my girl, very satisfied with the place. At the time of day we went it was very quiet, I'm sure dinner hour gets a little louder but I don't see this place getting crazy, it seems like a more upscale place. The menu was full of all your standard Sushi Bar fare as well as a wealth of specialty rolls. I believe there was even a section of more standard Chinese Food style dishes but to be honest I didn't look at those pages too long, I was there for sushi. Awesome food. I'm not a sushi lover because I don't eat fish. But try jar a great selection of "vegetarian" Sushi and I enjoy it with a soy wrap instead of seaweed which they offer. The steak was amazing as everyone else loved their traditional sushi. It's byob which we didn't realize but lucky for them there is a liquor store Barely a block away. We did not have a reservation and we were seated in about 20 minutes but I would highly recommend a reservation to anyone who would be eating here. read more

Unpleasant experience. Waitress rushed us while ordering...I don't understand why she was in such a hurry because it took us 45 minutes to get our California and spicy tuna rolls! For better service, timing and overall tastier sushi we will stick to Daikichi from now on. read more

My wife and I went here on a Friday night. Surprisingly, I was able to make a reservation the afternoon that we at there. When we arrived, it was not packed at all, with several tables still available. However, by the time we left (~9pm), it was pretty full. I normally have a bento box whenever I eat at Japanese restaurant for the first time. However, I saw something relatively rare that I had to get it - salmon don, which is like tekka don, but just all salmon. I love the fatty taste of salmon, so this was my perfect dish. The size and quality of the fish was good, though I think I prefer the quality of the fish at Dai-Kichi. That said, value for money is higher at Nori than Dai-Kichi. My entree came with a salad with a very nice dressing. My wife had chirashi, and she really enjoyed it. The variety of the fish was of the kind that she really likes. So she enjoyed it. Overall, the pricing at Nori is cheaper than Dai-Kichi, with quality being very good. That said, Dai-Kichi fish is much fresher. The staff were friendly and quick. read more

Stopped here in a whim the other night for takeout. The menu had a pretty long list if selections. Since I'd never been here before I decided on three basic rolls to sample. California roll, shrimp tempura and salmon tempura (never had the last one before). We placed our order, didn't have to wait too long. But while I waited I perused the dining area and the ambience was nice, quiet and quite comfortable. My only con was that during my wait I didn't see not one server check on a table and I was there for a good 15-20 minutes. Overall what I ordered was delicious and fresh and the perfect portion. I paid $20 for my order. I think that's a great price compare to other sushi spots I've been to. Since this wasn't a dine in experience I'm only giving 3 stars for now. Fantastic, fresh sushi. Nori is my favorite place for sushi. While I enjoy nigiri (done very well at Nori), I often dine with those who prefer rolls and Nori has an amazing selection of inventive rolls. Going to get good sushi in NYC is typically on the high-end of a budget, but Nori is extremely affordable and BYOB. Note: There is a liquor store next to the restaurant and a six-pack of Japanese beer is about $8. read more

Decided to try this place for the first time. Let me say that I will not be going back again. First off, the staff does not seem to know how to seat a party of 7 guests. Service: HORRIBLE. 1. We had to ask for menus after waiting 10 mins. 2. Waitress didn't know how to describe how the food is prepared/cooked. 3. After eating our appetizers, we needed new plates for our shared entrees. The waitresss told us they ran out and that we would have to use the current ones. Food: TERRIBLE. The sashimi had no taste whatsoever as if the fish taste was washed away and the soba noodle soup was lacking flavor. Not once did the waitress came back to see how our food was.
