My absolute sushi spot...anywhere...ever! We bought our house right around the corner and when it first opened, we gave it a try. Best thing we could have done. We bring people from all over here. The food and service has always been excellent. I mean the chef used to work at Nobu in Manhattan- HE KNEW SUSHI! To start I would recommend the Red Miso and Lobster soup. It's just perfect and the lobster is never overcooked. The Spicy Crunch Salmon roll is something truly amazing. It's my new favorite roll, this coming from a person who only used to eat California rolls. My friends have had the Chicken Teriyaki and gave good reviews, but I'm strictly there for sushi. Ive had Nori in house and take out many times. I def prefer coming in and eating. The place is really elegant but small and is decorated beautifully. All the way to the back is where the sushi bar is. This place is not like the hip other places. They are about the food! We sat down and was immediately greeted and served water. Nori always has house specials so we looked over the menu and decided on a few delicious dishes. We had went with edamame: which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Believe it or not restaurants screw up edamame. Mango kani salad: this was really good their was a hint of spice. Its so refreshing and a great start to a sushi dinner. We went off the special menu with the Lobster Filo This was AmAZinG !! It was lobster and mango in filo and a sauce it was fried. This dish was delicious and tender. it had a spicy duck sauce which went so well with this app. I could have eaten another portion. I ordered a couple of rolls between the both of us. We ordered a Sweet potato roll which is always a favorite fried with panko bread crumbs. Lobster tempura with cucumber in the roll which was fried and had a sticky sweet soy sauce although good the wrap on the out side was a little tough. I had speciality rolls that were really good. I got the Apollo 13 which was tuna crunch roll with spicy tuna on top and a Dinosaur roll with crab avocado and cucumber with fresh tuna on top. Both were super fresh and tasty. The rolls are large and def worth the price. I really love this place. I think they have quality fresh seafood food that they perfectly execute. The service is super friendly and helpful. I've been coming to Nori Sushi at least once a month already. Their sushi is always so fresh and delicious! It melts in your mouth! My go-to is their spicy tuna roll and spicy yellowtail roll. I'm never disappointed. Their miso soup is a hit or miss, sometimes it's a bit too salty, but other times it's perfect. I only didn't like their shrimp shumai because it tastes and looks completely different from what I'm used to. I couldn't eat it. I recently tried their Spicy Miso ramen and loved it!! It was a HUGE portion, so you have to make sure you really have an appitite, but it was nice that they brought a bowl over to share with the person I was with. They have a special that you have get a combo of ramen, beer, and pork buns. I got the pork buns and they were awesome too. Lastly, I got their green tea fried ice cream and that was delicious too. So was their green tea mochi! Overall, there's so much this place has to offer. It's hard to find a restaurant that compares. Definitely my go-to sushi place on Staten Island. read more

Thank goodness I only ordered 4 pieces of salmon Sushi. 1st the veining looked like belly salmon. Then the coloring was darkish red orange. Usually salmon is orange color. The salmon sushi was tender but I didn't care for the taste. Yep I said taste. Salmon doesn't have much of a taste.. perhaps its the Taste from the salty seasoned rice underneath. Either way it was horrid! The one star is the lowest I can enter and does not reflect the uneatable dish. Thank goodness for the ginger!! Which was very plentiful and delish! I made a reservation here after searching on Yelp for places on Staten Island that serve Omakase. I asked the woman who answered the phone to make a note that I wanted my husband to have it, and at what price point - it was his birthday and I didn't want him to know what I was shelling out for this. When I called the day before to confirm the reservation, they did so, and added "And your husband is having________, right?" I was impressed before we got there. Parking was on the lane and was fine - no meters on a Saturday evening. They greeted me by name when we walked in (still don't know how), and led us to our table. They gave me a menu for myself and told my husband that the chef would be preparing dishes for him that evening. It was INCREDIBLE. They sent out plate after plate, with excellent quality fish and really great flavors. His uni shot was heavy, and they followed it with extremely delicate scallops served on lemon slices. They orchestrated the dinner flawlessly. The baked crab dish and the aji sashimi were both out of this world. All in all it came to about a dozen plates being brought out, complete with tempura ice cream for dessert. I was blown away by the food and the service. I had the tuna martini appetizer, and a couple of rolls, including the Rose Roll, which I loved. Will definitely be coming back to Nori, especially for special occasions! read more

I came here with very low expectations. Any place located on/in a PLAZA shopping strip makes me nervous. Staten Island sushi makes me nervous. Staten Island makes me nervous....another story.... OK. Food is consistently good though I haven't actually eaten in the restaurant itself and as such I can't really comment on the ambience or decor. I have, however, ordered from them on multiple occasions and the food always arrives much faster than anticipated. There is never a complaint from anyone in my family about the quality and usually we're stuffed and content cats. The sushi is always freshly made and delivered so quickly the rice is still warm. Best tasting and most beautiful sushi on Staten Island! Nori's food was fresh, tasty, and artfully prepared. My son and I gave this a try last night as we were bored with the usual SI sushi food. The first clue that we were in for a higher class experience came when the waitress helped put the napkin on our laps. This is a small thing but it makes an impression. The staff was very friendly and attentive throughout the rest of the meal. We started off with the King Crab Tempura. It was served in a light vinaigrette with super thinly sliced jalapenos and red onions. It was a wonderful dish though a bit overpriced at $15. This was followed by the House Sushi-Sashimi for Two. Nori does have a Omikasa (Chef's Choice) but I think this is a less expensive way to get to know the place as the chef gets to select your food this way too. We were really impressed. We have not seen such an expertly crafted dish anywhere else on Staten Island. Every piece was fresh and expertly sliced -- not a nick to be seen anywhere. At $55 for two it was a bargain. We ended the meal with Nori's banana fritters as this was something you can't find in many other places. Oooh. This was definitely the right move. The fritters were served as pretty little twisted packages of crispy fried light filo dough with a hidden present of just enough molten banana alongside a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. Save room for this dessert! I have eaten at many east-coast sushi places including Morimoto's in Philly and Nobu in NYC. If you can't get to one of those give Nori a try. You won't be disappointed. I've only been here once because I was really craving sushi while on Staten Island visiting the in-laws. It was pricey, but not any pricier than standard rolls anywhere else I've been in LA. The restaurant is very small, just a single little room. It's clean, minimal in decor but still has a nice quiet ambiance. It was not busy at all when we went and for a while we were the only table there, but then again the place had, like, six small tables in the whole restaurant. The food is Japanese but the staff was Chinese. I have mixed feelings about that. It's like White people who own a Chinese restaurant, if you catch my drift. The food isn't always what it should be. Anyway, Japanese or not, our server was very nice, especially when she found out that I spoke Chinese as well. It's that funny "You're my 'people'!" kind of thing. The menu had a good variety and the food was very fresh, but I wasn't impressed. I forgot the several rolls that we got since it was last month that I visited the place but I like one of them, even though I wasn't blown away by it. Even the eel sauce was mediocre. I would still visit that place again because I had a good experience, but it might be because it's so close to my in-laws' house (I'm talking walking distance close) and there aren't exactly lots of sushi places to choose from on Staten Island. Staten Island isn't known for having the most abundant, high quality sushi joints. For a long time I have been searching for a sushi spot that sates my appetite and desire for quality. After finding Nori, I knew that I had found that place. Located in New Dorp, one of Staten Island more well known areas, this place has a very hip, relaxing decor. The wait staff is always kind, and remembers those who frequent the place often (like me :D). They are attentive and speedy with any request. The reason I love Nori is obviously the food. The sushi is always fresh, no matter what you get. They have a diverse lineup of house rolls (try the Rock Roll), appetizers, and . And, if you enjoy knocking back a couple glasses/bottles of sake, their selection is quite extensive. When I go I normally get a bottle of Nigori sake with the sushi/sashimi plate for two - simple and delicious. Everything I have mentioned above comes together to make a superb eating experience. It is rare to find a restaurant that has a wide variety of menu items and where the quality of the food is topnotch. I went here just for RAMEN! It's the only place on Staten Island that has ramen. Remember to ask for the Ramen menu! I thought for what it's worth, it's not that bad for a ramen-fix although there were some missing ingredients (such as seaweed). I've been to this restaurant on several occasions and their quality never disappoints. This is also the only restaurant that I've been to that wasn't afraid to tell me that they were out of Salmon (hint they only carry fresh products) The quality of their sashimi is note worthy... if you compared this with a lot of the Island sushi restaurants you'll immediately notice a huge difference. The tuna I've had here are served with a deep red color. They fall apart easily when chewed and has a taste of freshness to it that I haven't had outside of manhattan. The restaurant is cozy and well designed. If you are a a sushi fan/sashimi lover this restaurants is a no brainer. For people who are commenting on the shumai or rolls... this is a 'sushi' restaurant. Its not a chinese take out or thrift sushi places like mitoushi's. My friends love this place. the food is usually very good. Once and a while it's a miss. (ex the ahi tuna salad). However the food is uaually good and the service is good. The plavce lacks in decor, which is fine but for the prices it should be nicer. I'm not saying that it is dirty, but the atmosphere is somewhat dull. For the prices, it should be nicer.
