Tonight I ordered a Philadelphia roll, sweet potato roll, & chicken tempura roll with brown rice & a side kani salad. The sushi was great and very fresh. I ordered for pick up and it only took 10 mins to prepare which was very convenient! I personally did not like the brown rice, next time I will order regular white rice. I also feel the chicken tempura and sweet potato roll was very dry. They barely put on any of the teriyaki sauce that goes on top. Otherwise, delicious sushi and great service! read more

Not sure what to have for an early dinner, but we passed by Sapporo sushi, which is located in the Coral Island shopping center. By the way, there are plenty of parking at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. We were seated right away by our host and our server came over immediately and offered us some green tea. After a brief while she returned to take our order a very soft spoken female took our order. I'm not kidding. She spoke so quietly that it was very hard to hear what she said. But she was lovely. We were served in about 20 minutes. Our food was ready. We ordered a savory clam soup, followed by a sushi platter and an order of kani salad. The soup and the sushi were extremely flavorful. The clam soup was buttery and delicious as well as the sushi. The salad however basically lacked flavor. I'm not sure why I've had it before, but this time around it was very bland and had no taste. It gives me no pleasure to post this review however I think it's necessary to alert the customers who eat at Sapporo Sushi. I ordered $158 worth of take out and found two rubber bands in the food. I swallowed one and began chewing on the second before I realized and spit it out. I've eaten and ordered here many times and the sushi is always excellent. I ve been ordering from this place for years and very frequently since I m a big sushi lover. The quality is ok and menu is basic. Here and there the fish wasn't fresh , i would just toss it. The customer service was always terrible... especially in house. We always joked that they r missing an ax in their hand... But today they outdid their crappy service! Ordered online for delivery as usual. Ordered of the usual online menu. Uni came stinky beyond edible. Then there is a special roll. The roll was completely different from what I ordered. I gave them a call. According to the staff , they have changed menu and now paper in house menu doesn't match online. I asked to exchange order to match what I actually ordered or refund it. A person named Amy, who is a manager suggested I use paper menu next time. She said it is what it is. No replacement no refund. Also she provided me with a phone number of the owner, but she doesn't know his name. Basically online menu doesn't say that the roll is deep fried. It also includes specific kinds of fish inside. That is what I ordered. Their paper menu, which I don't have , states that the roll is deep fried and basically consists of imitation crab meat. Photos attached. The audacity of these people is out of this world! She literally send me completely different item, no refund no exchange, no apology. Rude, disgusting behavior over $11. We came on a Wednesday night around 7pm and there was plenty of places to sit and dine in. The service was great as they are extremely fast paced and patient. Everything was fresh and for someone that does not enjoy raw salmon, I actually liked the salmon they had. When I first ordered takeout at this place a few years back, I was not a huge fan. I'm embarrassed to say this but I've eaten here at least 5 times this month alone. The quality of the sushi here is outstanding, and I really enjoy their lunch specials. Everything here is just nice. Of course, it's not the best sushi around. However, the reason I give the 5 star review is because the price range is one of the best on Staten Island. The seating inside can be a bit tight, but it's really not the worst place have a sit down dining experience. Overall, I really have no complaints for this spot. I do have one word of caution, which goes not just for this spot but every other restaurant as well: do not order any food one hour before closing. This is by far the WORST Sushi place I have been to. After half a day doing indoor activities, me and my friends needed to find a restaurant to munch at and we found Sapporo Sushi House through Yelp. What is worth wild here, -Clean bathroom (with lotion in the Women's bathroom) -Lovely renovation and decoration -Restaurant seems pretty clean (including a clean fish tank) Why 2 Stars? -Services (food) was terrible ~ Very lay back waitresses (Everything took forever, includes being seated, getting us a drink, placing our order, waiting for our food to even waiting for our credit cards to be charged) -Food was HORRIBLE. Upon entering the restaurant, we stood for 3 minutes or so and we were not approached and there was customers from the other side that was telling us to sit wherever. We were the fourth table that night so it was not busy at all. Even after being seated we were not ask what wanted to drink until 10 minutes after we were seated. There was mainly one waitress there and another one that didn't come out until later on but for four tables it is technique not busy. We waited at least 20 minutes before our bento boxes came out. Food wise: -The Salmon teriyaki was so dry and didn't have enough sauce -Beef teriyaki tasted like heated straight from the freezer (funny how they would even ask " how your beef cooked" -Shrimp teriyaki was tasteless -Everything that was tempera was heavily breaded -Masago in the California roll had a weird taste Luckily we were only order a bento box and none of their special rolls. We were planning to order more depending on the food quality. The restaurant is very clean and the lighting makes it look very fancy. The sushi is actually pretty good quality considering the reasonable prices. Regular rolls are fairly priced starting at around $2.95 per roll. One of of the sushi/sashimi contains 2 pieces which comes out to around $1.25 per pieces. Our hibachi salmon came, we ate it, and the sushi order was still not there. We wound up requesting to just have it to go. It still took too long to prepare. I finally went up to the counter at the sushi bar and asked for an update. The server tells me at that point that it's ready, and she quickly bags it and hands it to me. The servers were friendly enough. However, we were not given updates on progress. I understand they were very busy with lots of pickup orders to manage. We order 2 appetizers: shrimp tempura and a salmon pizza(usually its tuna but we requested salmon) the tempura was good lots of different veggies accompanied it. The salmon pizza was okay. The tortilla was used in place of the pizza dough and it was super crunch. There was a lack of flavor in my opinion. We then ordered the sushi boat. There was a lot of "white" fish. This place looks pretty when you come in. The waitress greeted us upon walking in and sat us at a table. The basic rolls were pretty cheap. And the special rolls were average price ($8-$13). Kani salad had more cucumber than Kani :( it was good though. The food didn't take too long, considering we were one of the only two tables there. The presentation was very pretty. I ordered the American Dream roll and the Spicy Kani crunch roll. They were both just okay. It tasted like everything wasn't so fresh. This Japanese restaurant is unexpectedly delicious! My friend and I ordered delivery at around 8PM. My friend ordered 3 rolls- Californian, tuna, and salmon avo, and I ordered the soup udon with tempura. The order came very fast! Now, I've never expected much from restaurants that don't specialize in udon to have great udon. But it was very cold and I was really craving something warm. To my surprise, the udon was delicious! The noodles were a perfect softness that is hard to achieve and the broth had added flavors from the vegetables that made it quite tasty. Although the broth was a bit salty, the overall udon was great. The shrimp tempura came wrapped in foil on the side, and they also tasted quite good in the udon. My udon came with miso soup as well ( you have the choice to get soup or salad) but I was too full to drink it. The udon portion is very large and for 10 bucks, it's definitely worth it. read more

Can I assume majority of the shops here are run by the family? Or I suck at telling the difference between people. They look so similar though! Anyways, my expectations for food at SI is quite low. I went to another sushi place before coming here because their veggie sushi selection was lacking. The price was average (look at uploaded pics) I love that they serve a thin layer of rice. It was so thin that some parts of the sushi didn't even have rice! This did not bother me at all. There should only be a thin layer of rice. That's what I call a good sushi. I ordered: AAC roll - load up those veggies!! Sweet potato - you can see the sweet potato! Other places usually have such a thin layer of sweet potato so you're usually just eating fried flour. There was sauce inside the sushi but I couldn't tell what it was. It didn't taste like the usual sauce we see with the sweet potato roll. It wasn't bad though! Peanut avocado - they are far from cheap on the ingredients! Although the pieces didn't have an even portion of peanut and avocado, the sushi was definitely full in the middle. Shiitake mushroom roll - I couldn't tell what it was flavored with since it had a light taste. I'm glad they didn't smoother it in sauce or just boil the mushrooms. The ginger and wasabi was placed at the corner and separated with a cupcake holder. Overall, good sushi for being at SI. I had the Kani salad as an appetizer which was Delish as usual and a shrimp tempura and shrimp mango roll (my food of choice at any sushi place, if it's not cooked I'm not eating it) I like that they give hot towels when you arrive. The service is definitely lacking. I came on a busy night and it was almost impossible to get our waitress. We had to ask several different servers while they were walking by for stuff.
