This place was nice for dine in for a group. They had a cool fish tank in the front. There is a wide variety of food options, but the Korean BBQ required minimum 2 people to order and was the most expensive side. I got the sushi tempera roll combo which was a good combination of shrimp, chicken, and spider (soft shell crab). It was pretty good, but it was unclear if it came with soup and salad but they were dropped off and we had to check and the server seemed confused what we were checking about. My husband got a steak and scallop hibachi bento box dinner. The steak was fine, but the vegetables it came with ere really onion-heavy (like 80%), and rice and noodles were pretty flavorless. They didn't taste freshly cooked, with a firmness to them. Some people in our group didn't get the food until way after, to the point we had to follow up and see if it had been forgotten. The service was okay. I know groups are hard, but we were also on a weeknight early when there weren't other groups. The parking lot is okay but a little small. I am so glad that I came across this little gem! The restaurant is a mom and pop shop, offering delicious Korean and Japanese food options. Though the staff weren't too attentive and didn't give us water when we were seated, I absolutely enjoyed most of their food. We got takoyaki and tteokbokki for appetizer. The takoyaki was okay- it was a bit cold on the inside. The tteokbokki was perfectly spiced and it comes with an egg. The rice cake is very soft! I got the soft tofu soup which tasted really homey! My boyfriend got the chicken cutlet with curry over rice- which tasted pretty average. The restaurant has a very warm and homey feel too! They do get busy towards the night! This place has been around for 30 years and is often named best sushi each year. The couple who run and an interesting but friendly couple and the food is always top notch. The service can be spotty but usually very good. We go there or order out at least every other month and have never been disappointed. The ambiance is nice and every couple of years they revamp it. Hurt so good, c'mon baby make it hurt so good ...sometimes food don't feel like it should. So, make it hurt so good. Ordered the Korean wings, kimchi pancake, Soondobujigae, and kalbi. Everything has such a nice flavor that's reaching us even though hubby and I are both sick as can be. I wore a mask when the driver dropped off. The spice is clearing up our sinuses. Ahhhhh! The wings crispness lamed out in the delivery process but nothing can kill the flavor of the sauce. Their prices are insane. They are by far NOT the best sushi place on Staten Island. Don't believe for a second that they were voted the best sushi place. Last year a survey was conducted on Staten Island to vote for the best sushi place. This joke of a place had at least triple the votes than any other sushi place on the island. The only way those numbers were possible is if they were using a bot to vote. Avoid this place unless you like throwing your hard-earned money down the drain. Pretty disappointed in this place. It is one of the only places open right now and I really wanted to give a positive review. However, I cannot. When I called to place my order, the lady who answered seemed like in a rush and did not ask me how I would like to pay or the total amount of the order. As for the food, the masago sushi that they packaged had fallen inside the box, with all the masago spilling out. The salmon they used was more on the bone side of the salmon and not as fresh as I would like. There were also no utensils or napkins included in our takeout. I know I shouldn't be picky during times like this but I still have to be fair in my review. I have eaten here several times. It's not the best spot for sushi but it's not the worst. So first of all it's like a mom and pop shop. Hubby cooks and his wife collects the money and acts as a waitress. But unfortunately she's not a very good waitress and the women who work with her aren't great either. The male waiter is much better. Hubby does the cooking. Here's the issue, his sushi preparation needs improvement. If you take out, be prepared for all or most of your rolls to fall apart. If you stay there it's a little better but everything just lacks flavor. It's also often cold in the restaurant. I don't know why but it can be an unpleasant experience eating middle of the road food in the cold. I LOVE sushi but This place is like a C. Pot bowls are ok but small. And many of the pictures on the menu WILL NOT BE what you actually order so be careful. There are many other places on the island with good sushi with far better atmospheres and service. read more

Amazing! My friends and I tried this place for the first time and we are in love. We had the takoyaki appetizer, chicken dumplings and shumai which were all great. For our main meal my friend and I shared the special combo. It was incredible. The sashimi was fresh and tasty. The special rolls included were also amazing. The staff were excellent. We ordered the Combo Titanic for the five of us to share and it also came with miso soup & salad for each person. In addition, she also brought out (korean) appetizers- a couple pieces of scallion pancake, spinach and fish cake- then, a bowl of edamame to apologize for the wait. The combo titanic was bigger than expected, we were barely able to finish the food. It was nice that the sushi chef also accommodated our request for more salmon pieces. He filled it with a dragon roll, spicy salmon topped with spicy kani and other rolls. The salmon tasted fresh, but I was a bit resistant about the tuna. Nice neighborhood sushi place. Ingredients are always fresh and the owner/chef is very generous with portions. The sushi and sashimi are more of a Korean style than traditional Japanese. Meaning, lots of chewy succulent white fish than soft refined fatty fish. Of course I prefer both kind, so all is good for me! They also have a variety of Korean dishes on the menu which are usually better than your average Korean restaurants. Also, must try the salad cause the dressing is really good! Used to love this place and ordered from them and eat in all of the time, however I guess all good things must come to an end at some point. And that point for me is now. This place is not the cheapest so besides good food I also expect good service, right. So even starting before covid I started to experience lack of service, it started out as lack of caring, usually from the owner lady that's behind the cash register always worrying about her money, but the last straw for me was when I came to pick up my large order for a good amount of money. When I went to pay the lady didn't even bother to look up at me while taking my card or say thank you and have a good day when she handed me my bags of food. I felt like I was bothering her or interrupting her day, ultimately I felt like she was doing me a favor by feeding me, I felt betrayed as a customer. Also I have signed up for the VIP card which supposed to give me a discount towards future purchases and some special foods on special occasions like anniversaries however every time I try to ask them how much credit I have it's always a different number and it seems to always go down even though I have never used it (was trying to accumulate enough for a large meal with the fam) I have spent thousands of dollars here, used up all of my credit from the VIP and will never ever be back even if I'm dying for Korean food. I also doubt anyone from the restaurant will read this or care enough to respond because if they cared they would be nicer to repeat customers. Like I said above, food is usually good but the service is horrible from the owners (lady) side, her husband or whom ever he is behind the sushi counter is a very hard worker and I have always had pleasant experience with other waitstaff but I will not be back and suggest for you all to try something else, I'm sure epic meals await us. Went to this place for the first time for a friend's birthday dinner. Everything was perfect from the second we walked in! We were a large party; 11 of us, which included two infants and a toddler. They greeted us instantly, with warmth and smiles. They quickly set up a table for all of us, accommodating the babies as well. Food was delicious, service was amazing, and prices were right. Okay, so it wasn't my first choice. Corona had knocked out every other option and I had a hankering for Japanese. I've been to Tokyo Sushi before, but it'd been ages. Additionally, they didn't deliver, so it previously wasn't an option. The order: Two salmon teriyaki Bento boxes, a side of gyoza, and a Kani roll. It was expensive as heck, too. Their prices were much higher than what I'm used to, but it's Corona season, so I figured I'd pay, for it could be awesome. I stated, "I am allergic to wasabi. So, no wasabi, no ginger on anything". Her response, "No wasabi, no ginger." The delivery: Packaging was fine. I was charged a $3.00 delivery fee that I wasn't told about until they were at my door. I gave a $5.00 tip and the woman gave me the wrong amount back, leading to a $4.00 tip. Okay...fine. The food: I was greeted with what initially looked to be an appetizing meal. I set up my family to eat and was making some other preparations. My in-law said, "Can you taste this? It tastes funny." So I said, "Ha ha, funny?" She wasn't amused. She made an awful face and said, "Fish?" I figured: "No way. No one would give someone FISH gyoza without asking, because that would be insane"; but it was. It was cold, disgusting, mushy fish gyoza--which now meant that the gyoza I ordered with my Bento box was....FISH. I chalked it up and moved on. I opened my Bento box and tried to see if I could palette the fish gyoza. It was like eating the open end of a slug on a cold winter's night. Just GROSS! I swallowed the stank in my mouth and moved on to my California roll....not bad. Not bad, at all. I was SO happy, that I moved onto the Kani roll that I ordered. SURPRISE! There's wasabi attached to three of the six pieces! Awesome! Let me give a ring over to the shop and re-explain my condition. Allow me to sum up the phone call: "Whoops! Enjoy!" I hung up and moved on to the salmon. The grand finale! The ultimate part of my meal! The ultimate.......part......wait, what? What is this? Did you catch this salmon in Staten Island? Near the mall? It's dark! Dark like my future looks if I am to bite into this thing. I went for it. I dared nosh on what can only be described as: A filled diaper, covered in squid ink and melted crayons. Not Crayola crayons, the cheap ones you get with a kid's menu at Shenanigan's. I'm not sure if you've ever experienced that flavor combination, but I can assure you that it's none-too-pleasant. The summary and results: If you're going to run a food business, during a pandemic, you'd best provide the customers with your utmost, ambitious services. In addition, having a high-priced menu does not automatically equate to your food being of a high caliber. Moreover, charging someone a delivery fee on top of your ridiculous prices, is just nonsensical. Regardless of pricing and pandemics, however, the presentation of your food is paramount. If you're going to serve a meal that looks and tastes like puss and warts, served inside an amputated leg, then you're likely going to lose business. My go to restaurant when visting my family in Staten Island. I love love love sushi but Im always picky/careful because so many places dont serve fresh and clean sushi/sashimi. But Tokyo sushi serves really fresh food and is one of the few sushi places that my parents trust. The sushi rolls are soooooo good, and what I usually order. They also serve other korean dishes too that my parents order once in a while. Dont forget the tempura ice cream!! The batter/tempura is perfect in crispiness and thickness. And the portions are big enough to share.... But my sister and I always order our own... Haha sad I could probably eat another it's that good. I ordered the spicy beef soup that took an hour and twenty minutes to arrive which during this time they gave us free Miso Soup and Salad to pass the time , When my Spicy Beef soup arrived I said where's the beef . There was one strand of beef the size the of a hair and like 3 pounds of tofu . It's been years since iv been here now but I literally still dream about that salad!! Iv never seen it anywhere else. It was like a giant charashi on top of a salad and then the BEST part was some clever genius thought to put Koren sauce with it! Omg best combo EVER!!!! The one and only thing I miss from my time in Staten Island lol! I swear I'm tempted to just order regular charashi and bring it home to try to recreate this glory with some Gochujang.
