Four of us visited on a Thursday at noon and sat at a four-top near the counter. We were warmly greeted upon entering and placed our order. Shortly after, magic was delivered to our table: * Onion rings - deep fried but not greasy...how is that even possible? * Seasoned fries - Old-bay style. The cheese sauce for dipping was the perfect addition * Sliced pickles - these made for a nice salty crunch! * Cheesesteaks - American cheese and fried onions...perfection. I especially loved the round poppyseed kaiser roll. The steak, cheese, and onions blended into an I-shouldn't-but-I-am-going-to-eat-this-entire-friggen-sandwich situation. Which I did. And I wasn't even uncomfortably stuffed afterward. It was meant to be. This place is super casual. We were on a lunch break (wearing business suits) but no one looked at us crooked. I didn't even care that my perfume was replaced by the beautiful aroma of the grill. It was worth every single calorie!

Usually the meat to bun ratio is on point, but this time the meat was a bit skimpy. I'm not sure if this is the new normal, as everything seems to be getting smaller and more expensive at the same time, or if this was a one off. The sandwich was still very flavorful and satisfying, hence 4 stars. Next time I may have to drive there and see if there's a difference.

It's listed as a steakhouse because they use premium cuts of steak in their sandwiches. Menu: they are so busy on the weekends that you can only customize the sandwiches on the weekdays. I let my son order and he chose "The Classic" for us to try. Since we were having dinner in a couple of hours, we decided to share. It is pricey for the size. I'm used to having it a footlong at most other places and these are more like half the size. After placing our order on the kiosk, it was ready within minutes. The Classic consists of prime rib, Cooper sharp cheese, buttery steakhouse seasoning with sautéed onions all held intact by this sesame hoagie. OMG!!! My son and I loved it!! I'm salivating as I am writing this review. The Cooper sharp cheese just melts everything together. You can tastes the high quality cuts in their meats. It is now in my top #3. I will definitely be returning to try their other popular creations. Seating is limited. My one little complaint is that I wish they would wipe the tables and barstools down. It was sticky and dirty. Service is excellent even with the soccer match crowds.

The place where this wonderful is made, however looks like an active dumpster. Trash on the floor, torn up signs, a bathroom that is unusable, with an empty paper towel dispenser hanging off the wall. Gross, sticky tables that have not seen a wipe down for a decade all give you pause. Quickly changed my order for takeout and prayed the kitchen was cleaner than the front of house.

We had Philly cheese steaks "with," onion rings, fries & mozzarella sticks. All were delicious, and we would definitely go again if we are ever back in Philly. Sandwiches are huge - most people can probably get the small size instead of the large size, or split the large size with someone else. Just make sure that you know what you want when you get up to the window to order. The gentleman taking orders was not rude, per say, but it was obvious that he was not of the "take your time since you are from out of town and may need some time to ask us questions and decide what you would like " mindset.

John's Roast Pork is legendary in Philly - it's been around for decades - 96 years to be exact! I'd been there once before many years ago (couldn't remember anything about it) and thought it was time for a revisit. I got the large Roast Pork sandwich - you can see from the attached picture the 'preferred toppings' (Dad's Way) are: Mustard Raw onions Hot seeded pepper American cheese I had only the Mild Provolone cheese on mine - no mustard, raw onions or seeded pepper. I would have had cooked (caramelized) onions - but they had only raw...and American cheese was not a choice for me (I was raised on it). The pork is supposed to be 'slow roasted (7 hours) pork shoulder (pork butt)' - and it may very well be, but it reminds me of the meat that's carved off the large vertical rotisseries for gyros. It doesn't look that appealing - it's like a large sub sandwich. The pork was soft, tender and seasoned well - the roll was very good - John's had been getting its bread from Carangi Bakery. However, the bakery closed due to a fire so I'm not sure where the bread is from, unless it reopened. I finally satisfied my curiosity about John's and went to see what the sandwich was like. While it probably ranks as one of the better 'pork/steak' sandwiches in Philly, I just couldn't get excited about it.
