We went here for lunch this afternoon. My husband started with the baked potato soup and I started with the coconut skewer shrimp. His soup was ok, but he said the potatoes weren't cooked enough and were hard. The shrimp was good, but awkward to eat on the skewer and they served the sauce to dip them in over Pico, which made the sauce really hard to eat with it as Pico doesn't pair well coconut shrimp and pineapple. For meals we both had the walleye sandwich and they were both amazing! However the regular fries were not good. The waffle fries were cooked to perfection, I could have eaten a whole plate of those. Someone next to us had onion rings delivered to them and they looked hand breaded. We will be going back and trying different apps with those onion rings. I've been coming to Forest Lake for many years. I've seen the Norman Quacks sign and I've always wanted to try it. Today we did! And it wasn't a disappointment....for the most part. The interior is decorated with an outdoor theme. We ordered some appetizers first. Thursday's is 1/2 price appetizers. We got some cheese curds. They were good. Nothing amazing but good. We also got the pepperjack Queso and chips. Chips were delicious. They are made in house. Perfect light crunch. We got some side salads to start. Very small portion. The Mrs got a buffalo chicken sandwich. The chicken was slightly over done but good flavor. The youngest got a walleye sandwich. He said it was so good! My other son got some chicken tenders. Hand breaded and fried to perfection. I got the chopped chicken with vegetables. The vegetables needed some seasoning. The chicken was very dry. The flavor was good which saved the chicken. Over priced dried out chicken sandwich with a tomato that was the size of a silver dollar that sat around for a few days (seriously), and a tiny piece of lettuce was truly the same! My husband and I were driving home this weekend when we decided we wanted to try somewhere new for dinner. After a quick search on yelp, we found Norman Quacks, called them up for call ahead seating and headed over. All in all, our trip to Norman Quacks was a very pleasant experience and I'm sure we'll be back. The ambiance is very spirited, with quite a loud environment with lots of families and tables clearly enjoying their dinner out which I enjoyed. Our meal was started as soon as we sat down when a woman came over to our table with fresh, warm bread and some sort of garlic butter that was fantastic. It was a very cool touch that not only did it arrive right away, but she even showed up a few minutes later to refill our basket - definite points for not having to ask for more. As for our meals, they were good, but not great (although I think this has more to do with our own personal choices than any fault of Norman Quacks). I think we both got super overwhelmed by the huge menu, and I mean HUGE menu. The menu goes on and on and I probably changed my mind on what I was ordering 4-5 times. I ended up ordering the walleye fillets and my husband went with the prime rib. He asked for the rarest, fattiest piece they had and if possible the end piece. Our waitress came back to the table and said he could either have an end piece that was medium or a middle piece that was rare. It was really nice that she stopped back by to give him the choice, and definitely not her fault that he chose wrong and went for the end piece medium. As for the how the entrees were, my walleye fillets came out and were HUGE. I definitely did not need to go for the two fillets and would have been fine with one. The fish was very flavorful but I found the breading to be almost too crunchy. It may just be a personal preference but I like my fish fry not quite so hard. My husband predictably wished he had gone with the rare piece of prime rib but said even the piece he got was quite good. We both decided to end the meal with the "homemade" cheesecake our waitress told us was awesome. It was very good, but when the check came we noticed that each piece was $10.74! Don't get me wrong, the cheesecake was good, but this is a more expensive dessert than I have had at super pricey restaurants. My husband and I both agreed we never would have each ordered the cheesecake (and maybe not ordered it at all) had we realized just how expensive it was. With $20 we easily could have bought and entire cheesecake elsewhere! My overall rating definitely took this into account. I felt the price of the cheesecake should have been disclosed since it was so expensive. All in all, we will definitely be back. The menu was large and we're excited to try other things. read more

We've been to almost all of the other places in town and wanted to try a new place out so we settled on Noman Quacks. Arrived with a party of five, took a few minutes to get seated, but eventually were seated in one of the booths. We received a basket of bread and butter right away, drinks took a little while, but they were fairly busy. Ordered: Prime rib dip with onion rings. Both were delicious. Onion rings are huge, a tad greasy, but good. Forest Gumption with chicken and fries Kids chicken fingers with fries, fruit and a cookie. Dagwood Triple Club Pacific Rim salad. Came with a skewer of shrimp. The only downfall was that the salad was drenched in the peanut sauce. Really drenched. Way too much dressing. Norman Quacks is a pretty fun place to get dinner. Not the most enchanting place I've been to, but I'd go back. When we showed up for an early dinner (around 5), we were seated immediately by two very enthusiastic hostesses. Service was attentive and quick for the rest of our visit, although our server kind of weirded me out. She spoke semi-quietly and when I asked a question or didn't hear her, she looked at me with what can only be described as UTTER confusion on her face. And a tiny pinch of disdain. But she was fast and did a good job (I guess other than answering questions). The place had started to fill up a little more by the time we left (around 6:15) but still wasn't crowded. They have a lot of weekday specials, as well as half price appetizers during happy hour. Since we made it within the 3-6 happy hour, we decided to try some of their famed cheese curds. They were okay, and the cheese seemed fresh, but all three of us agreed they were very salty. We wouldn't order them again. The butter that came with the bread and butter smelled RANK so I couldn't finish it, but presumably (I wasn't 100% sure), this was due to how they seasoned it, and they didn't actually serve rancid butter. The rest of our table seemed fine with it. Even though the appetizers flopped, we all enjoyed our entrees. Their Sunday special is prime rib, $15.99 for a 3/4 pound slab and your choice of potato. I think normally this cut is about $24. I ordered mine medium. Noted: I probably should have asked for medium rare here to get a juicier cut, but medium was still good. Came with their smashed potatoes (VERY peppery, but I'm into that). After eating this entree, I didn't want to move for a good long while. My dad said the ribs were the best he'd had in a while and that they put Famous Dave's (across the highway) to shame. Mom was a fan of the one-pound baked potato with a hearty stew on top, especially considering it was $8.99 and very filling. My parents enjoyed this place more than I did, but we did agree that it's a good option in Forest Lakes. Next time I'm in the area, I'd like to go back and try the ribs. read more

Norman Whacks! We have kids in multiple travel sports and Norman Quacks has always been a team favorite ,until today. Our team came in today in between games and wanted to set up a parents table and a kids table 14 people total. The manager did not greet us and made it perfectly obvious that she was totally inconvenienced by our request and basically refused to accomodate us. She said "we have other guests here trying to enjoy their meal" Our kids were all being reasonably quiet and well behaved so there was no reason why she would have been led to assume we'd be disruptive. On top of that the restaurant was not at all busy. We were limited on time so we just split up and ate. Our server was great, the food was good, but the manager made us feel completely unwelcome. My husband went up to her after dinner and tried to nicely talk to her about our experience and how we didn't feel welcome and she literally said "well, then I guess you're not!" , We were so taken aback by this that we immediate went out to the car to look up the owner and guess what?!It was her! But after the service and the nice Monte Cristo sandwich and the tender bones ribs and waffle fries I was hooked. 2 for 1 drinks are new to me, but you won't hear any complaints from me. My excitement to check out the local Forest Lake joint soon turned to disappointment once the meal got started. The cheese curd appetizer was good, but it was loaded with salt. Then came the beer cheese soup. Man was that bad. It was water thin and super spicy with popcorn on top. The popcorn does not work. I traded that in for the baked potato soup and that wasn't much better. The walleye fillet had a crunchy crust but it lacked any seasoning. I relied on the tarter sauce to add flavor. The chicken tenders were just ok. The Friday fish sampler special wasn't anything special. The coconut shrimp were covered in a super thick mushy batter rolled in a little coconut. My wife ended up just eating the shrimp inside and leaving the batter on her plate. On the positive, the bread boy did a fine job keeping our bread basket and custom flavored butter filled. Tonight's butter flavor was cherry-lime. I would try it again and go for a sandwich or something they might be able to get right. I'm not a steak eater so you will have to look to others for that review. One more thing I forgot. The coleslaw is bad. Don't get it. read more

Went there for supper tonight. We drove an hour to eat supper with my sister who lives in the cities and I live North of there. She put our name on the waiting list. We waited 20 minutes and then someone else came in with a group and they were seated at the tables we should have gotten. So we ended up going to Applebees instead. I had been restaurant once before and unfortunate meal that I ordered for pick up, we had ordered two full racks of ribs onion ring and two soups, the order was ready as promised, returned more home shortly after, ate two ribs and put the meal away to wait for the rest of my family to return home , but within and hour I became extremely ill and violently. I tried to call the restaurant but they were already closed. Because of the pandemic they were only open Thursday though Sunday and was not able to call until five days later, due to bad cel service my conversation with the owner was interrupted. Only recently was able to talk to them again after a re-open was able to reach out again. Just spent almost $40 (w/tip) for two burgers!! No where on your Facebook page do you mention your 20% Covid surcharge. You don't even provide menus, nor do you ensure tables are clean in between customers. We sat outside and watched customers go and new ones arrive and tables weren't even cleaned in between. You expect your customers sitting inside to wear masks and if they don't have one, you'll sell them one for $.99! Crazy!! I have to say that I've darkened your doorstep for the last time. I think you're having a laugh and taking advantage of your customers. Do I believe Covid has had a negative impact on businesses? Absolutely! But ask yourself, what are you doing to make the situation better for yourself? Overcharging your customers isn't the way to go. There are plenty of other places to go to grab a burger! Nice place with awesome food. Everything that we ordered was really something different but in a very good way. We tried cheese curds, tex max, buffalo chicken, philly. Cheese curds were to die for and rest of the stuff was also pretty good. Philly had a bit too much cheese spread for my friends taste, but i liked it. I'm so glad that Norman Quacks is still doing curbside pickup during COVID. I haven't had anything on the menu I don't like but my favorites are the Chicken Tenders or the Juicy Lucy. Norman Quack's did a phenomenal job with COVID safety with our takeout order. They had a cart positioned outside the entrance and when we arrived, they came out and placed a cup with the receipt and pen in it and stepped back inside while we signed it to assure social distancing. After we signed and stepped away, they stepped back outside and placed our order on the cart. They had the whole process down pat and it was very easy, and we appreciated the extra effort. We had ordered a dessert that included ice cream, and they took special care to package the ice cream separately so that it wasn't all runny over the other items. The chocolate cake was incredible! Also, the chicken tenders were AMAZING. Definitely the highlight of the meal and already can't wait to order them again. read more

The first time we came we were looking for a place to eat that was open late. We had the steak the first night and it was excellent! We liked it so much we ate there again the next evening. The atmosphere is wonderful with 70's rock music playing in the background but low enough to be able to hold a conversation without having to raise your voice. The old album covers on the walls and duck butts over the entrance door just add to the experience! When our anniversary came around in September,we knew eating here again was a must! First time at the restaurant and the food was a big disappointment for us. Patty melt (ask for medium wellness) with onion rings. Burger was bloody red rare and bread was swimming in oil. Hardly any cheese and was the worse patty melt I have had in years. Onion rings were also swimming in oil, undercooked and received a total of 5 rings that was up-charged. Normally can finish even a bad meal and left over 1/2 of everything because of all the oil it was soaked in for 15.99 We also ordered a chicken Cesar salad. Dressing had no taste at all and the portion was not much bigger then a side salad at most other restaurants for 12.99 For $30 total (no drinks just water) and this COVID up-charge fee. "so is this your food or not" ? The woman looked at her and said how in the hell would I know? I ordered a medium rare burger that was beyond well done. Waited at least 20 minutes to get 2 beers. As an owner of a bar restaurant I understand any place can have a bad day.. our waitress was clearly flustered and we asked in true "Karen style" to talk to a manager, a little later the so-called manager came out started cleaning a table and walked over towards us and said " so somebody out here wants to talk to me" ( uhm, maybe .. who the hell are you ) instead of the general greeting from any manager that would be something to the effect of ---Hi I'm Dave, the manager what can I do to make your experience better today?
