When altering skirts and dresses, he doesn't just shorten or lengthen them, he thoughtfully adjusts them with your body shape and fit in mind, which makes a huge difference. He clearly knows fabrics well and understands exactly how each material should be cleaned and handled. Although his English is not fluent, he is always friendly and professional and takes great care with everything--from everyday clothing to more delicate items. My job obliges me to dress up, even post-pandemic. So I have a stash of shirts I keep in this neighborhood. Westwood is competent. They are efficient. They notify you via text when the job is done. Although I selected them based on the ease of walking there from where I stay, there were two options in the vicinity. Westwood had the better ratings on Yelp. I was satisfied. I have no reason to go elsewhere. I don't have more to report, because a dry cleaner is utilitarian. I want to be a regular. This is where I will do that. I'll post again if anything changes.

The costume is fairly big so I was concerned it may have been problematic to hold it for several weeks, but the owner said that it was fine. The costume smelled fresh and the color looked much more vibrant than before. The inner lining which was separate and detachable was much whiter than when I dropped it off. When I picked up the costume, the pieces were separated by color and folded, as applicable, into two separate bags. These are all good signs that it was properly laundered with care. The price was very reasonable and came out to $60, which was much cheaper than an estimate at a prestigious dry cleaner that was going to charge over $150. I highly recommend Woodley Garden Cleaners. Tips per two signs: -Wednesday Specials (dry clean service only): For every three garments dropped off on Wednesday, 1 will be discounted. -You can now make payments online before coming in for pick up.

When this happens, I've always gotten the sense that there is resentment on the part of the owner who handles the alterations; almost a disbelief that she didn't nail it on the first try; she agrees to redo it begrudgingly. A couple of weeks before Thanksgiving, I dropped off a pair of black Italian corduroy suit pants that needed to be taken in. I've had these pants for years, and actually had them take them out for me a few years back. A week later, I picked them up, just before Thanksgiving, when I was scheduled to wear them to officiate my sister's wedding. I tried them on the day before leaving for my trip, and they were still a full size too large in the waist, but there was no time to get them readjusted. That's fine; it's not the worst tragedy. But after Thanksgiving, I brought them back in, and pointed out that they were still much too large - a good inch around the waist. Mind you, I paid $45 cash in advance to have the pants altered. This isn't a cheap tailor. Rather than apologizing and agreeing to get it right, the owner who manages the customer service immediately challenged me -- intimating it must be some type of mistake on my part, explaining the complexities of the alterations in a way that made no sense, and even suggesting I might have lost weight over Thanksgiving (which is such a common occurrence, as we all know). Then she took another look at the pants and told me these were not the same black Italian corduroy suit pants I had brought in to be altered just two weeks earlier! To say that I was floored is an understatement. Again, I've provided them steady business over 15 years, and I'm a pretty friendly and pleasant person, just FYI. After I became agitated at being called a liar, not to mention the absurdity of finding some type of replica black Italian corduroy suit pants that had already been altered, she relented and agreed to fix the pants. I picked them up a week later, and they fit well. But to be treated with such blatant disrespect after providing business to this establishment for 10+ years is beyond insulting. I made a huge mistake a few weeks ago and took a vintage silk scarf to Zips to get one spot…read moreremoved. Zips not only couldn't get the spot out, but also pressed the scarf so hard that it damaged some of the fabric. Alas, I decided to pay for Georgetown Valet to give it a go. They got most of the spot out (I dropped said scarf on the floor so it was a lovely black stain) and were able to correct some of the pressing that happened. While it is more expensive than some of the other local cleaners, I will be taking my clothes here from now on!
