There were a bunch of people there in the evening as it appears to be a social hangout spot. The general atmosphere is casual with stool / bench seating and a counter to order. That said, I fear the flavors do not live up the hype. Everything I had tasted either bland or watered down. Though the aesthetic was nice, for the price, I did not feel like it was worth it especially if there is an extra charge for certain flavors or less ice.
Omg... Eat dessert first is my motto from now on!! After having dinner with friends, they suggested that we get ice cream! Who could say no?? I was semi full but mannnn im coming back!! I had the Filipino flavors which is ube and pandan flavors which is soooo delicious. I wish i had the fish stuffed Nutella but its on my next trip. The service is 5 stars!! Please come to Rockville or MOCO!!
Delicious colorful vibrant soft serve! I've been here countless times with my kids! The purple Ube ice cream and green coconutty Pandan ice cream twist is our favorite and love topping it off with Oreo crumbles or sprinkles, and let's not forget the Ube wafers and Taikayi waffle cones! The flavors rotate seasonally with different combo twist flavors and there's now a Mini 6 oz option as well as the 9 oz classic option with unlimited toppings! There are interesting seasonal flavors that are fun to try: - Honey Dew & Guava Cheesecake Twist - The summer flavor and sweetness of the honey dew complemented the exotic guava cheesecake flavor. - Sticky Mango Rice and Matcha Twist - While I enjoyed both flavors while the savoriness of the matcha helped balance out the sweetness of the Mango, they didn't pair that well together. I would get the Matcha separately and pair with Oreos and chocolate. - Peach Honey Goat Cheese - My favorite summer! The unique flavor is complex with a bit sweetness and a touch of savory. You can taste all of the ingredients. - Sakura: The pink cherry spring flavor wasn't that sweet and a bit tangy. - Kyoto Taro Cheesecake: A great combo of Taro and Matcha Cheesecake twist that's not too sweet and flavorful Ube Cheesecake flavor - A bit bland with a subtle cheesecake flavor. - Watermelon Basil - Fun flavor to try and tastes like a sour watermelon jollyrancher. It pairs well with the Peach Honey Goat Cheese flavor. - Black Sesame - Grey, savory flavor with a hint of bitterness. - Cookies and Cream flavor is a bit bland. - Classic Ube & Pandan Twist: I always resort back to my favorite default sweet and coconutty flavor. The Taikayi waffle cones are delicious. As the stuffed Taikyai is quite decadent, getting it hollow without any filling is the best way to go with the ice cream. Any type of filling with the ice cream becomes overload of sweetness. The Wicked Pandan Float (from the glass cooler) was delicious with layers of green coconut Pandan cheesecake custard pudding on a bed of Oreo Crumbs drizzled with salted caramel dulche leche. All of the flavors pair well together. I wasn't a fan of the Ube Dulce Leche or the Ube Oreo Floater. The Ube custard was a bit bland and didn't like the jelly topping. Skip the floats in the cooler and head straight to order the ice cream! Sign-up with the app and you can score deals and discounts via text and get notified of new flavors and when some flavors retire. My kids and I enjoyed love coming here and sharing a fun sundae! We came here a dozen times during the summer. There's both indoor and outdoor seating.
Tried Rice Culture with my mom and it was AMAZING!! I had heard great things, but I still wasn't prepared for how good it actually was. The flavors were perfect, and the taiyaki was hands down the best part. I got mine plain without any filling, and it honestly tasted like a dessert on its own. It wasn't hard like a cone--it was soft and fluffy, more like a waffle. So good. I ordered the larger cup, but I probably would've been full with the small--the price difference is so minor that it almost makes sense to size up. By the time we sat down, our order was already ready, so the service was fast. Seating is extremely limited, though, so keep that in mind. Overall, I'd definitely go back and try more flavors!
Was excited to try some more Asian flavored desserts. Decided to get the ube vanilla soft serve and tried their red bean and ham/turkey taiyaki. There wasn't much of a line when we arrived so we received our food quickly. There is a station where you can add toppings to the soft serve which was nice. I added some puffed rice and cornflakes and chocolate/oreo pokis. The flavors of the taiyaki were decent, but they weren't freshly made and it wasn't anything too special. The ube/vanilla soft serve was okay, but too sweet for me. The ube flavor wasn't as strong or distinct from the sweet vanilla flavor. The main flavor profile of each bite was just sweet. The interior is clean and has trendy decor, neon lights, and ample seating. There are a good amount of unique flavors to try, hopefully with stronger flavor profiles. I'd recommend this place to people who like their desserts extra sweet and want a bit of novelty.
Came in on a winter day, where snow/ice was still everywhere, but my friends and I were craving a nice dessert after a large meal. We were interested in the taiyaki soft serve and the taiyaki itself, so we decided to stop by. You order by kiosk, but once you order the general things, the limitless toppings get added afterwards. I like how there were still a couple of spots to sit, but cozy. Silly, but somewhere warm to sit and eat your ice cream. Being Filipino, I got drawn more towards the halo halo, which is one of my favorite. It tasted really good and I enjoyed how there was so much soft serve ice cream on top. I wish there was more leche flan, but that's just a personal preference. I would definitely stop by again to try something different.
Rice culture is an Asian inspired dessert cafe, and this location's in Vienna, VA. There's free parking nearby in the lot across Harris Teeter. The vibes in here can be described as whimsy and fun. It's open a little later than other dessert places in the area, so it's a great post-dinner sweet treat. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, but I wouldn't recommend coming here in a group bigger than 4-6 people. There's plenty of different types of dessert options from soft serve to drinks to jar desserts. You can order from the front or through the kiosks. There's a surprise taiyaki option for $8.99 where you get 3 different flavors. The taiyaki we got were cold and a little dry, but a good size for the prize. The ube cheesecake flan, however, was delicious. The texture, flavor, and presentation made me craving more. It was also reasonably priced for the area. I'd recommend coming here if you're near the mosaic district looking for an Asian sweet treat.
Their soft serves and other desserts taste great and are a unique twist on Asian desserts/flavors! They are also always keeping the menu fresh since they rotate their flavors every month or so. We got their ube soft serve with nutella taiyaki and it is so yummy! Fyi, if you're going to get the freshly made taiyaki it might take a little bit longer to get
If you like asian flavored desserts--think pandan, ube, red bean, matcha, mildly sweet unlike american desserts--this place is for you. Also, this is NOT traditional ice cream but soft serve from a machine, melts fast, different texture than ice cream. We have both ube lovers and cynics in the family, I am writing this review based on the ube and pandan lovers' experience. Flavors were spot on, ube combined with espresso is a good pick me up while pandan is fragrant, coconut-y sweet. Kid liked cookies and cream. Service is very friendly and helpful, toppings aplenty. Place was packed at 8pm on a weekday. Again, if you want a scoop of thick vanilla ice cream from a freezer, head to Mimis or Dolcezza half a mile away. If you are willing to experiment or your palate already appreciates flavors described above, please do give them a try.
I visited Rice Culture on Wednesday May 1, 2024 at 9 pm. This establishment was still quite busy on this rather late weeknight as it was filled with dine-in customers. I ordered 6 taiyakis and 1 open fish taiyaki with pandas ice cream. The process was very easy and straightforward if you've ever ordered through a kiosk before. The flavors I got were red bean, vanilla custard, Oreo, and pandan. It's a nice spot for folks looking to have a sweet dessert or just a place to hangout since this place opens pretty late. The one thing that was a little disappointing was that the taiyaki I ordered was not made fresh to order as I was expecting taiyaki to come straight from the machine instead of the display case. Also, the custard in the custard taiyaki didn't look like it had the right consistency of a custard. I'm not sure it's a different style, but wasn't really a fan.
Since they were a pop-up I've been a fan of their Taiyaki! Now that they have a brick and mortar spot, so close to my home, I've been visiting at least once a month this particular location for delicious frozen custards and taiyakis. My favorite flavor of swirls is definitely their pumpkin-ube! The ube is really bold and pairs lovely with the pumpkin (that has the amount of pumpkin spices and brights the swirl!), as for the hojicha is really rich and toasty, such a cozy flavor that comes in second place, specially when it's swirled with the sesame custard! Which is nutty and wonderful! I wish I have ordered it with the regular custard Taiyaki, since the ube cream felt lost in that flavor combo! love their vanilla custard and their pandan, although their Ube one it's pretty good. You can add any topping on your Taiyaki! We usually add toasted coconut flakes for a good crunch (as well pocky or Kit Kats if available). The servers are really friendly and the place inside is really clean, with the exception of very busy days where certain customers leave the table very messy and all the servers are busy to swipe them clean. I wish for the price, the ice creams were a little bigger, since the custard itself is almost $12 + Taiyaki $2.
Fun Asian flavors - love them all! My pandan soft serve & red bean "fish" was delish & fresh - better than expected for trendy desserts. Toppings a bit annoying- not displayed anywhere?? The employee has to list out and sprinkle at checkout - would be nice to pursue ahead of time like rest of menu... Hubs was sad the mango (non Asian) flavor was out - though there is new spot Viet Corner, few stores down where he was able to get boba fix.

Such a fun dessert spot! The soft serve was so delicious, and the little fish-shaped waffle on top was absolutely mandatory--it was SO good. The stuffed Oreo fish was a little dry and definitely wasn't my favorite, but it's still good for what it is. It's a bit pricey for a dessert, but I think it makes for such a fun outing. I also thought their cup desserts to-go were really cool and unique! The inside of the shop is super cute and aesthetic, too. I loved all the decor and the overall vibe. There isn't much employee interaction since you order through a kiosk, but honestly, that was totally fine and made the process quick and easy. Definitely worth checking out if you want a cute, unique dessert experience! read more

One of the best spots in Nova to get an Ube sweet treat. Their Ube soft serve is a must try, it's so rich, creamy, and not too sweet. It's also fun that they regularly change their seasonal flavors. We also most recently tried their matcha and strawberry matcha lattes, and they were great with a strong matcha flavor, and we got them with 50% sweetness and it was still sweet enough. The store is a bit small with limited seating and is usually packed on weekend evenings but orders come out quickly, the kiosk ordering is also a plus. read more
Ordered via app as a first time order because there was a promotion for 20% off first purchase. Did not get the discount, even though I wrote comments before submitting that I wanted to apply my 20% off first time app purchase before submitting the order. Did not get the discount, so I mentioned it to the staff when picking up. Was told the discount doesn't apply to the specials. Note that I did not see that specified on the promotion. Was told that the reward should still show up on the app under rewards. Since it was available on the app, I was told that I would be getting a text for a 30% off later that day. Well, it's the next day and I still don't have the promotion. App being deleted now and RC just lost a customer forever. read more
Been wanting to try Rice Culture for years. Finally tried a good bit of their menu and had Taiyaki for the first time! I tried the Ube Custard Taiyaki, Ube Flan Float Cup, Strawberry Matcha, and tried sips of the Ube Viet Coffee and Thai Iced Tea. I NEED to try the soft serve next time! Overall, I'd come again to try the soft serve or get their Matcha and Ube Flan cup; not sure about other things. DRINKS: Their Strawberry Matcha was my favorite item overall! Tasty homemade strawberry jam with a good amount of Matcha powder. The Thai Iced Tea was way too sweet and the Ube Viet Coffee was also too sweet and just okay....I found it to have a slightly odd taste- not sure if it's the Viet Coffee or Ube mixed with it. TAIYAKI: I had incredibly high hopes for the Taiyaki. I wasn't sure what to expect, but when I had it, it honestly reminded me of a sugary pancake. The dough tasted like a pancake (not what I imagined) and the Ube Custard was too sweet, but a good vanilla-ish flavor. I guess I thought it'd be less sweet and not taste like a pancake, but I was a bit disappointed. I'd rather just eat the Ube Custard alone. I wish the batter was crispy and crunchy- it was just soft ish. UBE FLAN FLOAT CUP: Tasty and great to share with others. Only complaint is it's too sugary and sweet! But otherwise, I love the Ube and Flan combination. Great notes of ube, caramel, vanilla, and graham cracker crust. I'd get this again. read more
I wanted to like this place so bad! I love taiyaki and traveled 20 minutes for rice culture. I have to agree with some of the other reviews, the taiyaki did did not taste as fresh as I would've preferred. I know it'd be hard with wait times, but I think having ads to order as the only option would alleviate this. The Ube soft serve on its own is delicious and I like that you get free toppings. All in all, I'll probably search for another place with taiyaki on their menu read more

Don't judge a book by its cover! I had seen this place when I searched dinner so because of its name I thought everything was rice. After I went to eat dinner, I put in ice cream and this place was the first thing that came up so I said let me go check them out because they're coming up as first for ice cream. Well, it's a ice cream place and it's truly amazing. I'm glad I stopped in. The workers were very helpful with helping me decide which item I wanted. I did taro soft serve in a taiyaki. I also tasted the Ube soft serve, which was also amazing, but I didn't go with that one. read more

I feel bad but I have given Rice Culture many chances. Their ice cream is okay. I am not a fan of the consistency and it melts very fast. Their Thai Tea is average, I can tell that its powdered and tastes watered down. Their taiyaki is okay, it's stuffed with a play-doh like filling. My last straw was when I tried the hot chocolate with pandan marshmallow fluff. It tasted sour and after a few sips it hurt my stomach so I threw it away. Their only saving grace is their Fillipino jar desserts. I really like their buko pandan one, its refreshing and not overly sweet. read more
I had a great experience at Rice Culture. I had visited to pick up their advent ice cream calendar and ended up getting an ube marshmallow hot chocolate. The ube tasted sooo good, I was in love! The ube marshmallow was vegetarian as well. I also enjoyed the hot chocolate, but in my opinion both of them combined was a bit too sweet for me. I would love to get the marshmallow on my coffee to balance out the sweetness! I definitely recommend Rice Culture, especially if you enjoy Asian inspired desserts! read more

Hidden gem in the DMV! I loved the inclusion of Filipino flavors not traditionally found with Taiyaki. We tried the red bean, pandan and ube taiyaki. Red bean and ube were my favorite! We also tried the ube and matcha banana soft serve. Ube was the favorite soft serve as I wasn't a huge fan of the banana inclusion (but just may be my personal preference). Saw they had Buko Pandan and Halo halo, so hoping to come back to give those a try! There was plenty of seating inside! Tip: We came on the weekend and was able to park at the Metro garage for free! read more
I went back in April but never got around to posting my review as I got married, moved states and got busy! Anyways: Been seeing them at the farmers market for a long while but never tried them. Was in the area and saw the storefront so decided to go try! I parked in the nearby garage for free and was greeted by a young woman who was kind to offer me samples of the soft service and give recommendations. I went with the seasonal flavor and got the sakura soft serve; I added oreo crumbs on top. I was confused about the taiyaki so i got the nutella filled one to go on top, but wouldve preferred the hollow one so it wasn't as heavy. This was so filling. The soft serve was absolutely to die for, I LOVED it. The taiyaki was essentially a nutella filled fish-shaped waffle (I didn't end up finishing it bc of it being so heavy/filling, but it was nice). The oreo crumbs were fine and not chunky. Cute and clean interior with wifi password posted up. Will definitely return again! read more

My favorite ice cream place with rotating flavor options. They have unlimited free samples. I tried all the flavors before the deciding on: vegan ube (coconut milk) and pumpkin cookie butter swirl. The Ube was light and refreshing and very coconut-y. The pumpkin cookie butter was very rich and sweet. I topped mine with graham cracker dust, Oreo cookie dust ,a chocolate pocky, and a Biscoff cookie. I did get the Nutella taiyaki cone which was fresh and delicious. The place was not busy and the staff member was very accompanying and answered all my questions. I did come in the later evening, so there's many tables open for sitting. After seeing this place on social media multiple times I knew I had to give it a try and it did not disappoint! Rice Culture has amazing soft serve ice cream in unique rotating flavors. They also offer unlimited toppings which was such a fun touch! I got the Ube & Cookies and Cream swirl and my ice cream partner got the Pandan & Thai Tea swirl. Both were absolutely delicious and surprisingly not too sweet. They had the perfect balance of sweetness and a little umami which is a unique offering for Soft Serve. We also indulged in a 3 pack of Taiyaki. Getting the Ube, Red Velvet and Oreo filled. Our favorite hands down was the red velvet. The filling is gooey, sweet and really compliments the crisp fish shaped waffle shell. The cashiers were really kind and offered us samples. They even walked us through all the offerings when we explained it was our first time. As for the store, it was very clean and had a very fun vibe with seating, plants and cute neon lights. Overall, I wish this place was closer to me because I would be in all the time for their taiyaki. This is a great spot to hit up for a unique treat or dessert. read more
Not the easiest location to park at, this is close to the Metro. With these sorts of dessert places, I always question whether there is such a thing as too much. Is the flavor combination of thai tea swirled with coconut pandan going to work? Do I really want cornflakes and crushed oreos on top of that? Is it really necessary to get a fish-shaped waffle filled with Nutella on top? The answer here was clearly yes, as every one of things things combined for a delightful sweet and savory taste experience. It's an expensive dessert, it's a big dessert, but the options are distinctive and impressive. Some other desserts in a jar were available to go, and while I did get dairy soft serve, there were some non-dairy creations with interesting flavors. read more
I got the strawberry lychee soft serve with a taiyaki. Unfortunately, the soft serve was overly sweet and tasted quite artificial. I do appreciate that theychange their soft serve flavors often. I'd come again to try a different flavor or even their matcha. read more

located in a large, nice but busy shopping center. there's parking garage and pay for street parking. it's small inside with a few seatings and table area. it wasn't busy when I came but all of the tables were dirty. there's a to go, pre made dessert jar fridge there's 2 kiosks to order or you can order at the cashier. my order came out quick and there's options toppings to add to desserts read more

Absolutely delicious! My daughter and I stopped in after dinner and were pleasantly surprised by the variety of unique flavors. I had the pandan, and she chose the ube. We both loved our picks. We also tried the Nutella, red bean, and vanilla taiyaki. The red bean was definitely interesting, but still surprisingly delicious! read more

Rice Culture Soft Serve & Taiyaki is a delightful gem! The taiyaki here is not only adorable but incredibly fresh. My mom tried the traditional red bean filling, while I indulged in an amazing combo of cookie butter soft serve topped with Biscoff biscuits--yum! The service was prompt and friendly. Super easy to order through the mobile app or two in-store kiosks. The store is warm and inviting, and smells heavenly! There are plenty of delicious grab-and-go options in the back and seasonal flavors change regularly. Highly recommend this spot for a sweet treat! read more
