You really have to try the onion rings also! These past two weeks I ordered the chicken tenders because I wasn't too hungry and they were better than Culver's and that says a lot! I ordered a grilled cheese with ham to go with fries. they then decided to add mayo, tomorrow and lettuce! Which made it a soggy mess. I didn't ask for those items to be on my sandwich only to find this out when I picked up my order and got back to work. Very disappointed and the sandwich was disgusting. Went to the restaurant on May 15 2024. Sat down ordered but had to change to carryout. Paid for my order with my debit card . Server looked at my debit card slip saw 0 tip demeanor fully changed. When my food was ready instead of handing my food to me she left it on the counter said thank you walked away I had to walk over to the counter and pick up my food as I was standing by the register. I didn't leave a charge tip as I had cash in my hand I was going to give to her at the end but when she disrespected me I put my money back in my pocket and gave her nothing. She will never get anymore service or tips from me ever again. She was straight out rude. No one has to tip you especially with a carryout. Tipping is a bonus and being courteous and giving good customer service is how you earn tips. I should know since I've been a server for a long time. read more

A good student hangout, with accompanying low prices, in the Wayne State area. The food often seems overdone and overly plentiful (just today I had a full plate chicken quesadilla that was considered an appetizer) but their milkshakes sure are good! I totally agree that this is the go-to place when you're desperate and out options, only have a few bucks to your name, and have little time. It can all be worked out here. I'm also going to substantiate my "meh" rating by saying first, that I actually like a good greasy spoon diner - if done right. But Olmypic isn't done right at all. Eggs are never quite how you order them unless it's scrambled. The hash browns are never fully done. The toast sometimes stale. I mean, these are just basic things to get right if you're a diner-hole. The only saving grace is that the service is fast and hard-working. I've never been left unattended, and I just like the attitude of the people who work here. No-nonsense, no performance, no need to exchange names, just fast service that's making sure you're taken care of. TOO much grease, TOO much smoke, and on TOO many occasions, I've had to sit next to cops swapping stories and tall tales, one of which ended in a grotesque confession of clearly inappropriate baton batting. Located on Wayne State university's campus, during the week this joint is loaded with students grabbing a quick bite before going to their next class. So, needless to saw the turnover of the tables is quick, they get you in and out at an alarming rate. The food is nothing to write home about, but is tasty enough and I've never been food poisoned here, unlike many of the other greasy spoons that are in this town. Patrons can order anything from pancakes to pitas, to burgers for almost next to nothing. I like stopping in on the quieter Saturday's for a sobering breakfast and cup of coffee. We lived just a few blocks from the Olympic for almost three years (until late June of 2008) and we went there for breakfast a few times with another neighborhood couple. The food was delicious and they had several inventive pancake selections, but our server was *awful* the first time we went there (totally inattentive and very unfriendly). I complained to the owners afterwards (the wife is one of the servers & the husband is the cook) and we always had better service after that time - although that particular server never waited on us again. read more

We used to meet here before class to grab brunch (if college students actually grab "brunch" these days... which is such a old lady word for it.) I liked Olympic because it was cheap, decent on the tongue, and fast. Actually, I think Olympic has the fastest table service on campus. Though sometimes it's tough because of it's location. I don't like sitting at tables, I like a booth. They're limited, and often I'd find myself in the main aisle where I'd get someone's butt in my back once in a while when someone would pass by. That's never good when I have a fork in my mouth. Other than that, it's a typical diner: decent coffee, seats are comfortable enough... but it's really the type of place that needs a group to be good. If I weren't meeting people I'd usually end up someplace else, someplace quieter. read more

Olympic Grill is a greasy spoon. My friends love it and make a ritual out of eating here after a night of drinking. It's across the street from the WSU campus and just a few blocks away from the University Tower. I can't love it. I don't like greasy spoons. My toast was limp with this golden greasy liquid. But it's cheap, you get some ridiculously huge portions, and it's one of the few places near WSU that is open for breakfast. read more

I go to school across the street from this restaurant and I check in frequently enough. The staff is always very friendly and the food is always pretty good. I went in yesterday with a new friend I made from this new job i just took on in the area. I had the club sandwich which was average but j took a bite of her corn beef sandwich and it was off the hook immediately causing me to regret my decision. Idk about the bland reviews but this coney does not disappoint. Cheap food, fresh and good quality also huge servings of food. You can't beat that. The waitresses are so sweet, I have never had a crummy time from Olympic Grill. Usually get a burger but today I just wanted some steak in my bellay, so got the steak sandwich because I did not want to pay for a full steak dinner. Anyway the steak was juicey and fatty, medium rare just the way I like it. And my mango smoothie was a perfect pairing with the sandwich. Bread/bun could have been toasted but oh well. I have been going here since my Freshman year at Wayne State, and they just recently updated the decor and outside sign. It was greatly needed. Most times I am here for breakfast, and I am one of those people who order the same thing every time. Greek Omelet - grilled onions, gyro meat, feta cheese, hold the tomatoes. The portions are pretty decent, its enough to fill you up in the morning and keep you going through the day. The omelet itself is pretty moist, so was the gyro meat and feta cheese as well. The onions were well grilled, which I like. Hash browns were nicely crisp on the top and amazing with the bites of omelet on the same fork. Overall, their omelets are the best I have experienced, and they are only around $7.00. To keep you going all day, with some little snacks until 5:00. Its worth your buck, especially being a college student. I have seen people enjoying corned beef sandwiches, and I plan to try theirs sometime soon, but I know nothing wont come close to Russell Street Delis Corned Beef All The Way. read more

not too bad at all. i love diners and diner food and i'm glad to have this one near me. i've tried the corned beef hash, the biscuits and gravy, and some omelette. the corned beef hash here is really great. it's not the mushy formed into a patty kind. it's the slices of corned beef tossed with hash browns type. i know the big corned beef chunks are the best kind but this was surprisingly good. not too salty and the perfect amount of fat parts. got it with poached eggs, which was perfect. the biscuits and gravy are not the best. the biscuits are a little rough and the gravy is kind of chalky. i wouldn't get it again. the omelette i tried was pretty good and had hash browns inside. the portions are huge and the coffee keeps coming, so diner needs are pretty much fulfilled. oh except i kind of wish they had tabasco instead of just red hot. the service is fine, but not especially friendly - just people doing their jobs i guess. the tv is always showing something weird. i'd definitely hang out around here some time and would stick with the corned beef hash. read more

I was taking my daughter to a cooking class on Saturday morning and decided this would be a great opportunity to eat at one of the many new restaurants popping up on Cass Ave. To my surprise, when we arrived in the University District of Wayne State, there were hardly any diners open. I drove around for a good half hour before stumbling upon Olympic Grill Wayne State. There was something familiar about this place; it was very inviting and comfortable. Overall, it was your typical Coney Island diner. As always, my daughter ordered pancakes with strawberries & whipped cream. My usual breakfast entrée includes eggs over medium and rye toast (with jelly, of course) paired with whatever type of meat strikes my fancy at the time. I love turkey sausage and bacon, but if those aren't options, ham or sausage it is. This time around, I ordered the Southern Skillet. I learned my lesson last time at Toast Ferndale and opted to have my sausage gravy on the side. I actually should have chosen not to have it at all, as I even didn't touch it when it arrived. The Southern Skillet came with green peppers, onions, sausage and hash browns, which were then topped with three eggs over medium. Yum! It was truly delicious, and I enjoyed every bite. My skillet was priced right at $7.95. As for drinks, we always order homemade chocolate milk as an additional treat. However, it seems this time it tasted more like milk with a hint of chocolate. Yes, the color changed slightly, but there definitely wasn't a chocolaty taste to them, which was disappointing. Overall, Olympic Grill Wayne State satisfied our breakfast craving. The staff in the morning is rude. They are inattentive and unfriendly. Today I waited a half an hour for a box. No one came to check on me and ask if I needed anything else, which has been very typical with them. A few months ago I had asked them for some strawberries on the side of a tuna salad and they refused to serve them to me because they claimed that they would not know how much to charge. They finally relented when I told them that I didn't care how much they charged me. I just wanted some strawberries. The food is subpar. The things made on the grill are far too greasy and the bacon is like eating a salt lick. The hamburger patties are flat and gray and taste like they had been frozen for a while. The unfriendly nature of the staff, the bad food, and, aesthetically speaking, the ugly decor, leave this diner quite unsatisfied. I have been eating here for three years while at Wayne and it just got worse and worse. Today was my final visit to Olympic and I can only hope that they either get their act together or are replaced like many other businesses in Midtown. read more

I didn't used to be a fan of Olympic, from their grease-saturated breakfast to their sour, fermenting ketchup. After the ketchup incident I didn't go back for over a year. Ever since the update I have been going for breakfast two or three times a week, and it has definitely improved. The atmosphere is better, and the whole place feels cleaner. It's still diner food, but it's close to campus, cheap, and the food is decent. If you haven't been to Olympic since the renovation, I recommend you try it out, you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

The Olympic Grill is in the Cass Corridor area across the street from Barnes & Noble Bookstore in the Wayne State University area. Lots of students, staff, and faculty go to this restaurant. Unfortunately, the restaurant is a greasy spoon. It serves a lot of food on the plate - humungous amounts! I only go here for lunch when I am feeling like a loser and want to eat items that are so unhealthy!!! But, it is open and the waitstaff are friendly. They serve food usually hot and quick. There is no parking for this place - metered on the street only. Usually students, staff and faculty park elsewhere. The restaurant basically caters to the university crowd. read more

Best Omelet I've ever had! I ordered a veggie omelet with feta cheese, the veggies were perfectly cooked and the feta was so creamy and delicious. It was a hearty portion of feta so I actually took some out and spread it on my bread... yes it was that good. Also, I asked for my hash browns extra crispy... and I got them just the way I ordered! Ok, the Whitney it ain't (and that may be a good thing given some of their reviews I just read). But it never fails...the placed is always PACKED between the hours of 11:00A-3:00P, Monday through Friday. On more than several occasions I've had to wait to get seating. Normally I meander to the counter and sit because of the unavailability of a two-seat booth. I mostly have the veggie omelette (egg whites only), wheat toast and a cup of coffee. Once I was still starved (or stressed) after the omelet and had a piece of chocolate cake. It was HUGE!! Service is steady refills come quickly, and the price ain't bad. This is a GREAT place to eat! My wife and my three sons (2 in college, one in high school) all love it. And you don't have to eat high-calorie foods; they have an excellent chicken stir-fry and gyros and salads. If you are walking out of there feeling like you were "grease bombed," it's your own fault for making a poor food choice. (I'll bet you also eat regularly at McD's and other garbage fast-food places, don't you? I avoid them b/c they WILL kill you!) I watch what I eat closely and am in great shape, and I have no problem with hitting the O.G. whenever I visit my son at Wayne State. And after May 1, there will be no smoking allowed, and that's a big plus, too. read more

Checked this place out between classes and it is just great. You think you've had a good skillet before? Forget about it. This place has the best chicken skillet I've ever had, and I know my breakfast dishes. Great service and the prices are good. Lunch specials are pretty good too.
