Brought my family to this NORMS after a long day at Disneyland for dinner. We were seated and ordered our food - took my 10 year old daughter to use the restroom to find a homeless vagrant woman bathing in the sink, and a small (Non service) dog running around the restroom - the floor was covered in water from her bathing in the sink (with no shirt on) - the dog starts barking and chasing my daughter who is now running circles around me because she is aftaid of the dog - we make it into a stall only to have this dog follow us in and running in and out from under the stall and jumping up with its wet paws. Unable to use the restroom we return to our table and informed our waitress and she didnt seem phased at all, which made me feel as if this was a normal happening there. - Other than that, my family enjoyed their food - I was too grossed out and in need of a restroom so I was too uncomfortable to eat. So the Yelp reviews are true. The service is slower here than one would expect. We came on a busy Saturday morning for breakfast and sat @ the counter to avoid the wait for seating. Our server was Jaime and it took her a while to get her rhythm for the morning. I have to remember that this is a neighborhood restaurant, not a truck stop. With that said, 4 guys working in the kitchen definitely wasn't enough for the busy restaurant. Eventually, Jaime got her groove going and it was fine. As a former server, bartender and manager at several restaurants, bars and nightclubs I have had thousands of experiences with the service industry employee and I can say without a shadow of a doubt the very best waitress I've ever had the privilege of being served by is Kimberlie. As others have stated her memory is phenomenal but it's not just that. Her timing, presence, knowledge, anticipation, friendliness and her down to Earth genuine self were all impeccable. With all due respect to Norm's I hope that she is able to transition to her next opportunity smoothly, become the asset she is and have a very fulfilling life. Completely racist interaction. I'm waiting at pickup window inside store but associate is helping other guest. I'm the only other person in the store..after waiting 5 mins, a white couple walks and joins the forming line behind me. The associate completes interaction with first guest then comes from around the shield counter to help the white couple who just walked in behind me. She completely overlooked me, racially motivated.. FYI white couple even spoke up and left the store all together never ordering. The restaurant apparently had a problem locating my order because my name was not on any of their printed receipts. Relationships after this amount of time continues to get better. Yolanda is my favorite and the one I seek when I sit to dine. I have an hour for lunch and she makes sure that I stay within my time. She knows what I like and offers the choices I usually ask for. My drink is always full or asked to refill. I visit 2 to 3 times a week. This was a game the aforementioned Kristy C. and I would play when we would dine at Norms. Having escaped the clutches of our horrible cafeteria cuisine (What was with all the bell peppers?), we would often come here for their food, and it was a great excuse to leave campus in the middle of the night. Not many places are open at 3:00 in the morning AND serve Rootbeer Floats. We both attended a great Yelp event down in the Santa Ana Arts Village and decided to pay homage to this haven of late-night study sessions. Here's what I had: Hot Chocolate - Bottomless, and served with a daunting wallop of whipped cream. My cup was refilled at least twice. Biscuits and Gravy - All the qualities of comfort. The biscuits were large and fluffy. Their gravy is quite savory, with just the right amount of seasoning. Scrambled Eggs - Standard Hash Browns - Quite a large portion, and studiously good, especially with the gravy. Chicken Fried Steak - Just like Mom used to make, completely cloaked in their delicious gravy. The gravy made everything better. Their ice cream is award winning, although I did not partake in the Rootbeer Float this time. Our server - Shannon R? - was a gem. Now, you're probably wondering, did Kristy and Shaun-Mathieu ever get the free cheese toast? On rare occasions, yes. However, the days of keggers and free cheese toast have passed. We were very disgusted by this restaurant. To start off, we were a larger party, but the restaurant wasn't busy. We were one of three tables. It was my grandfather, dad, brother, two daughters (both 2 and under), and myself. They tried seating us at a table for 4.... Really? Then they moved us to a booth that we couldn't have high chairs at when we clearly said we needed them. Then once we got to the right sized table, the waitress forgot to take our drink order, then forgot about us entirely. I took my 18 month old to the bathroom and she was texting in a corner and flirting with another waiter as she typed. I asked her on my way back if she could drop by our table and take our drink order and she said she'd be right there. She never came by. We're the type of people who stick it out and try to give people chances, so we waited for 30 minutes before a different waiter walked by and we flagged him down. 20 minutes later we finally got our drinks. They had a bus boy bring them and he put three cups of boiling hot coffee in front of my 18 month old. When she reached for it, the guy tried to stop her and spilt soda all over my two year old. An accident, but highly annoying. Then we waited another 20 minutes before we got our food order in. At this point, we stuck around to see just how bad the service would be so I could write a review on it. It took them a hour to bring out our food and they forgot my grandfather's order. He was the one paying and we are pretty traditional in which children and the elderly should be served first, so to forget his order was highly disrespectful. Another 30 minutes went by before he got his food. My brother's food was cold on arrival, mine was warm, but not fresh, my dad's food was room temp, and my daughters' meals were both cold. When my grandpa got his food, it was the wrong order and it was cold, but he was so hungry at this point, he didn't care. Then after eating, we waited another 45 minutes before I got up and found a "manager". I told him how long we'd been waiting for our drinks, food, and now check and we would simply like to pay and leave. He asked if we wanted dessert and I said no. Then he goes "What if it's free?" in a joking way. Annoyed I said we weren't in the mood for dessert, we simply wish to leave. Then he rolled his eyes and said he'd send some one over with our check. Then the waitress who was texting in the corner and flirting with another waiter finally came by and just tossed the check on the table. Didn't even say a word to us. My grandfather was so livid at this point that he gave her a penny as a tip, which is his way of saying "I would have given you a tip, but your service was so bad, you don't deserve one." When she came by the collect the money after we left she was outraged and was openly mocking my grandfather as we walked away from the table. She called him "cheap" and "rude". I should have realized it was a mistake when we first walked in. After a early evening at looking at Christmas lights, we were looking for a easy place to find a quick dessert, to satisfy our sweet tooth. Norm's came up and we headed there mainly for nostalgic purposes. First we waited for 10 minutes for someone, anyone, to seat us. Many employees had an opportunity, but other duties like talking and filling catchup bottles took priority. Then waited for a waitress to take our order. All the while tables around us were open but filled with dirty dishes and remained through most of our stay until a bus boy came by to clean up the tables. Food was poor, even the small hot fudge sundae. Probably the best food there would be breakfast, but I would think Denny's is a step up from this place. I guess if I were a starving poor college student, this place may seem like a five star restaurant, but I am sure I could find sources of much better food for the same price in many other locations around Chapman University. read more

Dear Norms, Sometimes I come in and get the cool server who has been there forever who really knows his shit. He gives the table a quick wipe, knows to bring me ice water as soon as I sit down, gives us our utensils right away, and then takes our drink order. He knows all the specials and knows that the faster and friendlier he is, the more he gets tipped. But other times, I get the guy who I ask about specials, and he says "I dunno," then gives me a stoner stare as he looks around the dining room in order to read them off of a nearby hanging sign... he also does not remove the cash tip from the last people who sat at the table (which leads me to believe he doesn't want it -- next time I will recycle it into my bill)... he will not bring me ice waters (this is standard stuff, folks), and he will wait until we have our food to ask if we need refills or even think about checking on utensils and any condiments. I have gotten the cool guy 2/3 times, but as often as I used to come... getting that "other" guy even one third of the time really puts a damper on my parade. I'm also usually waiting 15 minutes for the bill. Also, not a fan of being asked for my ID when I am paying the bill with my debit/credit card... trust me, if I had stolen someone's card, Norm's would be the last place I'd think of spending my time and money :) I've relocated breakfasts to a cozier and quieter Rockwell's, but still love Norm's. read more

OPEN LATE. CHEAP. BETTER THAN DENNY'S. That's what my three stars are for! It's 3AM, you're hungry, maybe you don't want Pho, maybe you want Steak and Eggs? There's NORM'S. Okay, so their food isn't great; it's definitely better than Denny's! And CHEAPer! There are a few times when it takes forever for the hostess to return and for us to be seated. However, as soon as we're seated, our quick service and friendly waitress usually makes up for it. A-OK because no particular dish has stood out to me. Their steaks are definitely better than Denny's but nowhere near the level of a steakhouse, but that should already be expected. My ex-boyfriend once ordered two at once! As for me...one time (just one time), they had strawberry funnel cake! I don't remember how much it was; I just remember it was delicious and cheap! How can you not like this place? It's equivalent to Denny's and IHOP but I think they're better. Food is better (yea I said it), lots of different options and it's cheap! First time dining at Norms yesterday and it was so impressive. I decided I wanted to try it out since I was in the same plaza and it was 10pm...wasn't expecting or craving anything in particular, but it turned out great! Upon walking in I was a bit confused and couldn't catch any server (which I don't mind) so my bf and I just sat ourselves in the far back booth. Despite us sitting so far and basically out of nowhere, a server came to us right away and constantly came back to check if we were ready to order even though she was handling a lot of other tables. Their menu is so big (with all fair prices) and it was pretty hard choosing but we ended up getting the Portobello Chicken Breast sandwich and the New York Steak with breaded shrimp. It came with a complimentary salad, soup, baked potato, and some zucchini. I didn't expect the portion to be so much for the price and the steak to be so juicy and tender.. Of course it didn't taste superb or high quality, but the whole plate was enjoyable.The sandwich was so yummy! Had a generous amount of mushrooms and chicken. For the rest of the night another server, a lady with short hair, took care of us and she was very sweet, polite, and attentive. She earned the last star for this review. Went there for lunch and it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. The waiter was inattentive even though they were not extremely busy. As soon as out food arrived he also set our check on the table without a word. So rude! It made us feel unwelcome and basically like he wanted us to leave even though we had just got our food. What if we wanted to order something else??? We almost ordered desert just to make him reprint the ticket. My companion's refill came in a dirty glass with a huge lip print on the rim (we were using straws). Of course we could not find out waiter to send it back. The food was ok. While I'm not a giant fan of breakfast food (Don't shun me please), Their steak specials always leave me satisfied. For the price of the meal, you don't expect tender flavorful steak, but its a heck of a lot better than most places for the price. The service is seriously lacking, more the kitchen's fault that the servers. It takes WAY too long for them to bring you your food, which is important when I'm on lunch break and need to get back. Went here for lunch when my bf said they had a $5.99 special that included soup half a sandwich salad and drink. We were immediately greeted by friendly faces when we walked in and sat right away. We asked if were were still in time for the lunch special and we were answered promptly and server came within a minute. She was very nice even complimented on my makeup being flawless haha :] Food came very fast and it was great. Clam chowder was the best I've had in a while I was surprised I don't usually like clam chowder that much. Sandwich was turkey breast on wheat bread with avacodo. Good size wasn't the most flavorful sandwich I've had but it was ok for the price. Salad was fairly small but after all the food, it was just right. We also got 2 sodas and a side of fries and they came out perfect and hot. It is just a little chain diner, like denny's or ihop, but I like Norms better, they are always open!! so when I need a steak at like 1 in the morning, they have it! There are no frills here, its just there. They are fast, and friendly, and I the portions are pretty nice. The staff here is super friendly and really do make the effort to make great suggestions for meals. Up selling items I wouldn't have thought about initially, but ultimately made the meal even better. Loaded hash browns have a great taste profile. Breakfast items are excellent. The biscuits and gravy are delicious and the steaks are super tender. Alysia was very friendly and professional when we dined yesterday and made me feel like family. Didn't feel rushed. Will come back for the excellent service and for the great quality food you can't get at just any 24 diner. Come here! The holiday decorations are cute as well. I LOVE Norms, it's one of my favorite places to catch some good grub at a great price. This Orange location however, has the worst service of any Norms I've been to... (I've been to them all) My most recent negative experience was with a waitress by the name of Kelly. She was extremely rude, surly and had the attitude and look of one of those waitresses you'd find in Barstow who'd seen better days. Even if her better days had passed, not my problem. She is there to greet, serve and be friendly, which she failed miserably at every step. If you are making customers feel they are doing you a favor by sitting at your table maybe you're in the wrong line of work. I will never return to this location. read more

My first experience @ Norm's was the Anaheim location. Odd, quirky place with a staff that, for the most part, had that great 'diner'-type attitude that has been mentioned before. Quickly won me over as my favorite late-night gathering spot. Once in-a-while, i'll get a bad piece of steak - but overall, the food is consistently pretty good. Then, moved to Orange. The food AND service here has always been good. Saturday, had a wedding in San Diego to shoot. Even though we got fed there (and the food was good), by the time we made it back to the OC, the wife was hungry and suggested Norm's. She tried the gumbo soup (which, for some odd reason was missing the rice - because they had run out), and a turkey sandwich. i had the Avo-turkey sandwich (with avocado & added swiss cheese - YUMMY!) Forget our servers name - but she was great. Always checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed AND was a great help with suggestions when the wife - though professing to be hungry - didn't know what she wanted. I had to write this for this has to be THE WORST SERVICE i has yet to experience to date... not just at this Nroms establishment, but out of everywhere I've ever eaten. I normally get out of work late, sometimes I feel like ordering some food. I absolutely LOVE the club sandwiches you have at Norms as I always order them! Today I called in to place an order for pick up. It was around 1:30am. This is not an abnormal phone call for I have placed many to-go orders from this specific location. I also work late.. so Norms is just easy. I called in and a woman answered, I stated that I wanted to place a to-go order, She then replied, "you will have to come in to place the order". I thought to myself, "Wow, they must be really busy... but no matter how busy they are, they can't take a to-go order?" I went in to the locations off North Tustin and Katella to find that there were only 2 tables in the entire restaurant. I waited for the only server who was there to come up to me, Her name is Deisha P, as it stated on my receipt. I asked her why she wouldn't take a to-go order if she had only had two tables.. she stated "we don't take to-go orders after midnight" I then said, "thats funny, because every time I have called, at least once a week to place a to-go order, they have never told me that". Anyway, there was banter back and forth as she was completely unsympathetic to my needs or concerns or the lack of any sort of descent customer service. I waited for my meal to be prepared while she helped other guests check out on a computer that was not taking credit cards. This part seems to be important. After she gave me my food all packed up, she asked if I way paying with my card. I said "No", I put the cash on the counter and left. (I left 11 dollars, The Bill was 8.63)... she didn't deserve any tip if you ask me... the only tip she needed was someone to remind her to remove the stick from her rear end. I leave Norms nd some woman comes running after me, flipping me off and mouthing something. It was some girl in the booth behind me. I stopped the car, rolled down my window and heard her reciting out loud my license plate...I am guessing Deisha told them that I shorted her. The chick ran back in saying my plate numbers out loud ( i have a vanity plate) Anyway, like I said, I never expect much when I go to Norms when it comes to customer service... Deisha clearly proved me right by not only being rude and not taking my order over the phone ... but clearly she tells people that I don't pay my bills and has them run after me... maybe send the hot guy the chick was with to run after me... Deisha really needs to be talked to and given some training on what GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS because right down the road there is an iHOP and a Dennys.
