Not sure why, but I recently found myself back at Yoshinoya after taking a break at the Tustin location. Yoshinoya used to be a regular stop during my college days for quick, affordable, and solid rice bowls. This Tustin location is clean with plenty of seatings. If you park in front spaces, then do watch out for cars coming around the corner from Del Taco -- the driver tends to speed through that corner. The nice young lady greeted me as I entered and efficiently took my order. On this recent visit, one thing I noticed immediately, I'm not sure when they switched up the bowls, but they're definitely smaller now. Shrinkflation is real. :( Aside from the smaller bowl portions, I still enjoy my beef bowl (but hold the beef juice). The rice was same dense & fluffy, the grilled onions were just right--not too many, not too few, add some veggies to my favorite beef bowl. The beef slices are still the same thinness /same cut and texture but ratio of beef dropped drastically. You'll have more rice leftover now. Regardless, I still find myself enjoying and wanting another beef bowl soon. Maybe will try the selection of crafted sweet ice teas with boba. read more

The clam chowder is amazingly rich and flavorful, the edamame is always fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the chicken teriyaki is absolutely delicious, tender, juicy, and perfectly glazed. I've been coming to Yoshinoya locations since 1993-1994. Been to over 50+ locations, just got back from Japan 3 weeks ago and had more Yoshinoya. This is my ideal comfort food for the weather coast. Some people prefer burgers, I love gyudon. Just wanted to say briefly that the general manager here and staff cooking in the back, were wonderful. GM had a sweet motherly personality, excited to work at the start of her shift (it was 10:10am) and we talked briefly about how long she's worked for the company and how much she enjoys the food, almost as much as myself. Service was 10/10. Food is the same delicious comfort food. It's a little different than in Japan, but it's still good. Like I said, I prefer this over burgers and fries. This may not be for everyone, but it's quick and tasty, good value for what you get. Gyudon (beef) could be a bit fatty for some people, but it's where the flavor is. Either you will like eating here or you don't. Give this place a try, it deserves at least 4+ stars, but since I'm biased and the staff was awesome, I'm giving it a 5. My closer location in Fullerton closed and is being rebuilt to a smaller location, but not once was the service as good as this location. This might be my new "home" location for Yoshinoya. Never do reviews but thought I might share my experience of the lady who handed me my order as far as helping me as a customer she was good but how she treated her colleague/employee is what pissed me off she asked the college why aren't you putting names on the orders and from the looks of it she didn't like his response and decided to mock him in the most ugliest way possible in front of all the customers that were there felt so bad for the guy who looked to be in training. read more

I rarely give out one star to a business unless it's really bad. Ordered 3 combos with all beef, one order of comb with beef and chicken and 2 clam chowders for to-go. Got home, the containers seem smaller than before (shrinkflation, that's okay). Open the box, all four boxes were mostly rice, a thin layer of meat were barely covered the rice (now I felt really being cheated). The clam chowder, it tasted really watery and sour ( not sure if it is normal or gone bad, to be safe, I have to throw them in the trash). I've been eating Yoshinoya now and then since 1980s, but Never had this kind of bad experience before. Seems like their food quality really gone downhill. On a late evening after a gym session I was craving flame broiler. Unfortunately they closed at 9pm.... Luckily this place is open until 10pm! This is my first time at this location so didn't know what to expect. I liked that their bowls had an udon noodle option for a base along with the regular rice and veggies. I got the teriyaki ribeye steak bowl combo and enjoyed it. I thought it was good, but it was lacking something... can't put my finger on it. I also got the gyoza on the side. This was okay too, lacking some flavor. The tempura orange chicken could have used more sauce, but it was crispy. I asked if they had any house made sauces for the bowls and they just had soy and siracha packets. So that was a downer too. Maybe my experience would be better not at the tail end of the night? However, I still prefer flame broiler. BUT, for $22 the price wasn't too shabby. (2 bowls, one Gyoza and soda) I will say customer service was great and it was very clean. read more

My partner and I got some Yoshinoya coupons in the mail, and I saw that they had karaage (Tokyo Fried Chicken) so I wanted to try it. This location is very clean and the service was quick. We were helped by a very nice and patient male cashier. We ended up ordering 2 large bowls: 1 with the gyudon beef and tokyo fried chicken, and the other with teriyaki chicken and habanero chicken. Both were with white rice and veggies. The coupon made it so that we paid around $15 for both. Regarding the food itself, they pack a lot of rice. They basically fill the takeout box with rice and then they put the meat and veggies on top of the rice. I literally got 5 pieces of chicken lol and the beef was a little dry. Their tokyo fried chicken tasted EXACTLY like karaage tho. Very well seasoned so I would highly recommend trying it! I wouldn't recommend the habanero chicken or teriyaki chicken. Both were kinda dry. All in all, if you don't wanna cook and you're craving karaage or gyudon, def go to yoshinoya :) read more

Went late last night (about 40 minutes before closing). I was informed by Mike at the register that there was only enough teriyaki chicken for one regular bowl. Of course, I went there to purchase like 3 large bowls and 1 regular bowl full of teriyaki chicken.
