This place was super cool! We took seats at the counter, and got prompt service from one of the young ladies. All the waitresses were friendly and we talked for awhile with a girl who was going to Bozeman for nursing. They all seemed to enjoy their jobs there and worked well together. The place is a diner but has an old school style candy shop in it, and the specialty sodas and shakes are a must try! This is a very laid-back restaurant that looks like a throwback to a soda fountain store from the 1920s. They have a whole wall of candies that look like a lot of fun to shop at before you go. The waiter was very nice and friendly and helpful with the menu. You can sit at the counter like the old soda fountain or they have about 10 to 12 tables. Such an adorable place, a literal step back in time. The service was great, everyone was super friendly. They have pretty much any candy you can think of as well as dessert, the door says "eat dessert first" which is a movement I can definitely get behind. We split the burger and it was really good. TW: super sentimental review I've been going to Norms News since I was a child - over 30 years now. This longstanding business has changed some owners over the years but it has never lost the charm I've loved for decades. You're always greeted when you come in. The burgers and fries have the same flavor and quality as they had when I was young. The soda fountain treats remain as consistent as the youthful soda jerks making them. I usually opt to sit at the old bar on the stools. The same spot that I used to sit when my dad would take me there for an after school treat. Of course, not everything is exactly the same as when I was young...but that's okay. This place isn't frozen in time, but it is reminiscent of a simpler time. I hope that I'll be so fortunate to bring my own child here someday. read more

OK, there are TWO things better: first, the huckleberry milkshake with chunks of huckleberry going through the fat straw it comes with, and second, the flattened patty melt oozing cheeze and caramelized onion. It is truly nostalgic experience. The hamburgers are as advertised. There are possibly 2 gluten free items hand written on a chalkboard. I was not brave enough to try. The root beer float had perfect proportions for me (more root beer than ice cream). The milkshakes were pricey and too melt-y for us. The staff were delightful and helpful. I have been stopping in for a bite here since 2000. I love I can still grab a shake and burger in downtown Kalispell. This stop I had their Bison Glacier burger which was excellent. The fries are always great here. I got a huckleberry shake for the first time here, and it was on point too. We had a great experience here. Super cute little soda shop with a 50s diner set up vibe. The staff were very helpful and made great recommendations. They offered gluten-free buns for their burgers. One person in our group found a big hair halfway through her burger and was completely grossed out. We brought it to the attention of staff and they were very casual about the whole thing. Just blandly says "sorry, we will make her another one". When it was delivered, the waitress just smiled and said "sorry about that" and handed her the new one. No offer to take it off the bill, no extreme apologies... just acted like it happens frequently and saying a simple 'sorry' was all that was needed. This local shop is so awesome! Not only do they have delicious food but they offer a wide selection of candy! They have everything from licorice to gourmet chocolates! My husband and I had a bison burger and a patty melt! Both were absolutely delicious! We also had a root beer float and huckleberry shake which did not disappoint! (They add fresh huckleberries to the shake!) The servers were kind and welcoming and it's nice that there is a large western wear shop connected to the restaurant so after you eat you can walk off your calories while shopping and visiting the antique shop downstairs! This is a "MUST VISIT" place when you are in Kalispell. Old fashioned soda fountain and restaurant - we didn't have any food but all the food being brought out looked amazing. The malts and ice cream we had were so yummy! We just had our first experience at this soda pop shop. It was one of the few eating areas along Main st that was open on a Sunday. And you can tell for how busy this place was. My family and I are giving 4 stars because the atmosphere was really cool, the large fries were more than enough and our waiter was really kind, patient and accommodating with all the questions I had (cause I always have questions!). We aren't giving 5 stars for a few minor things. It wasn't a make break or break, but we've seen better in these areas. Our sons grilled cheese was cute, but definitely should be maybe like 2 dollars? Instead of the 4 we paid. The cheese was barely melted and it was quickly thrown in between a bun that was put together backwards. Maybe trying to make it different? I didn't take pics of the food. My daughter wanted me to leave a review, because she really really enjoyed her root beer float. I had the pork sandwich which was amazing! And my husband got the seasonal special: the Glacier burger which he said was a bit more crispy than he would have liked it. Our older girls got plain burgers and other than the grilled cheese, we also got a corn dog which was really big for a kids order. They didn't finish it. They have this incredible sauce for the fries that has horseradish in it. Bomb! Anyway, definitely a cute place to go with the way they set it up and the atmosphere was great. Service is helpful and pleasant. It's fun to bring your kids to sit and eat at the counter, and enjoy a milkshake. A hidden gem of Kalispell! If you are driving downtown it is likely that you would pass this place based entirely on its name, but I would recommend stopping in especially if you have kids with you. This place, in may ways, is like an old school dinner. It serves burgers, hotdogs, and chili fries. And as the name would suggest they have a large selection of fountain sodas that can been custom made. But it also has a great variety of custom shakes, malts, and other kid friendly drinking concoctions. I had their huckleberry shake. It was absolutely divine! Huckleberry may be one of my new favorite fruits after my visit to Montana. Another great thing about this location is its immense candy selection. They could be considered a dedicated candy store with how much they offer. So if you have a sweet tooth, this place would be a great stop as well. It has a wonderfully old-timey atmosphere. Almost like a saloon. They have a nice carved wood "liquor" shelf behind the counter where they keep all their drink add-ins to make their large variety of sodas. Its like a perfect modern recreation of a western saloon mixed with a 50's/60's burger dinner. In addition to having candy, drinks, and food it is connected to the authentic antique western clothing store. So if you are waiting for your food, you should definitely go and check it out. They have western style (cowboy) hats, oilskin dusters, western vests, and a whole slew of other things to catch your eye. read more

The ice cream here was easily the most flavorful and rich of any that I had. Ordered ice cream cones and sodas and it took 35 minutes to get it. The. A large group comes in, kids lick fingers and dip into candy powder dispenser. That large group then sat down and ordered and got served before all their shakes before we got our simple sodas. Another large group comes in and the employee audibly complained about the large groups that keep coming in. Server had an attitude when asked a question about splitting the check.
