This place is really nice. We sat in the bar area but I think there was a regular seating place on the other side. Spacious and with a full bar on that side. Drinks were good and they had special items for them and food. I went with the pot roast grilled cheese. It was okay. Very lightly toasted so the cheese barely melted. Not sure if they were counting on the beef to do some of the job. My friend had the fried chicken sandwich and she ate the whole thing. Another first time visit for me... I had the pot roast dinner with mashed potatoes, peas and corn mix... It was very tasty with the heavy dark gravy on it. $20 My friend had to stout burger which he said was very good. $15 The service was also good. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. There's nothing wrong with North & Maple. The food was good. The place is spacious and plenty big enough for groups. The menu features your standard, run of the mill pub food and they offer a full bar. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, to grab a late lunch and watch the Cub game. There were plenty of TV's in the bar, however they don't pay for the Marquee Network. That's something they probably need to fix. This restaurant is surrounded by chain hotels and I'm positive that guarantees them a steady stream of out-of-towners looking for a cold beer and a burger, so North & Maple doesn't need to change the world with their food and service. They need to be consistent and good, and they are both. Our server Annie was absolutely fantastic. She made great menu recommendations, and we wanted for nothing during our visit. Annie suggested we start with the cheese curds and they were arguably the best part of the meal. I ordered the special burger - which was a Waygu BBQ cheeseburger. It was good, but nothing special. I ordered it medium-rare, and it came out well done, but it was still juicy and I didn't feel like waiting for it to be redone. My wife ordered the Grilled Cheese Pot Roast Sandwich. Again, it was good - absolutely nothing wrong with it. The food was not seasoned at all and I had to send the salmon back twice for being over cooked when I ordered it to be cooked medium. The salad was not fresh at all. The ShortRib was extremely dry and overcooked . This place has been three different names over the pass few years and I think because of the bad service and food they have tried to re brand themselves with new names. I was with my baby girl and she was definitely the youngest in the establishment, but no one said anything so we continued to our booth. There was a live band and I was LOUD good but really loud. They want you to have room for alcohol...They also have live entertainment here, too, on certain nights. We always get the pretzel bites for the appetizer, which are really good & they come with a delicious homemade cheese sauce, but the portion is...you guessed it...super small! I think there are about 12 total, if even & they're super tiny, too...Hubby & I have to fight over the last one! . We don't drink, but they have delicious mocktails there, too! My husband and I enjoyed our meals. He had the shrimp Alfredo. It's was well balanced in flavor. Once my husband removed the tails from the shrimp, the smell of seafood ceased. Upon the removal, I tried his meal and it was delicious to me also. My American cheeseburger was great. The server was very nice. The atmosphere was pleasant. My overall experience was enjoyable. Went with my son who has celiacs. Burger was good, but beware of the gluten free markings on the menu. Fries are marked gluten free, but they don't have a dedicated fryer. Only reason I am giving 3 stars is that the server was aware of cross contamination. Place has a lot of potential, but the fries being gluten free is really the only reason we came. Ah-mazing! We were 3 tired and hungry travelers and this was located right across from our hotel. That's not always a good combination. Not this time - we lucked out. The pork chop was the best my friend had ever had. His plate was practically licked clean. The grilled cheese was delicious. My chicken tinga tacos were perfect - you rarely get a corn tortilla that doesn't break - but they figured out how. The pineapple added just enough sweet to enhance a very slight heat (a wimpy Midwestern palate could survive this). All 3 of us dug into the bread pudding. And yes, this plate did get licked clean. The only drawback we noticed, maybe 2 - we went during a Bears game and the sound was extremely loud. And the bags games going on in the next room were a little distracting. Old fashioned - Poor was a shot and half made with "malers mark" w/a 1" ice cube and was $13 what a joke. This place is super loud with only 20 or so people in the place. The food was very sub par. I ordered the bbq pork chop which came out in less than 10 min. Red flag... it was raw. Uncooked, solid pink in the inside. Its a 2in chop. Thank good i looked before I ate it. As I said above our sever went out of her way to make it right and got me a menu to pick something else. She took off the pork chop and my replacement meal (3 sliders app) she also gave us the cookie skillet. The rest of the food we had was "ok for bar food" I think that this is what this place is a bar and nothing else. I was surprised that a manager or anyone didn't else came by our table.
