I had John out to clean my carpets for a "move-out" last week. He came highly recommended by my landlord. My carpets weren't so bad, but I knew I had a few suspect spots and pointed this out to John. He didn't think it would be a problem but he did not make any guarantees, which was totally fine with me. If there is a stain that won't lift, I am not going to blame the carpet cleaner. Sure enough the few suspect stains did not come out, although they took a day or so to resurface. I called him a few days later and told him about the stains and was about to ask if he would attempt another pass - he blew up on me! Told me not to blame him if the carpet didn't come clean. Said he had been in business for 30 years and if he couldn't get the stain NO ONE could. It was really bizarre. My objective was to rehire him - at the same rate - to give it another go. Seemed worth the $100 to try again, rather than have to replace a whole rooms' carpet. He never even allowed me to get there. He just got really angry, I was so surprised because he was so nice in person! Really blew me away I just thanked him and hung up. I was so boggled I replayed the conversation in my head over and over trying to figure out if I could have been perceived as rude or complaining. There was absolutely no intention of blame or implication that I thought he was responsible for my daughter's spilled chocolate milk on the carpet. I didn't even ask for a deal - not that I even had the opportunity to ask because he just told me flat out that he wouldn't do it because it was impossible. Um ok. So I called someone else (and I can't remember their name!!...but I will find out for you all!) - and guess what....For the same price they came over, treated the stains in a completely different manner and lifted the spots right up. The carpet actually looked lighter and brighter after they left. Needless to say my landlord has found a new carpet cleaner. As for me, I will never do carpet again! read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I had an appointment scheduled 2 weeks in advance, and they were a no show on the day of! When I called them, they said they called and left a message...which was a lie. His excuse was basically that he chose not to take that appointment because his knee hurt and his partner was out of town. His partner was out of town when he booked us! We had used this guy before, Dan I think his name is, so he knew very well what he was getting into. We have stairs which he likely didn't want to negotiate climbing and a relatively small place on the top floor of a duplex. He knew all of this the moment he set the appointment, so the fact that he still booked it and decided later to cancel without contacting us illustrates this guys professional (or lack there of) demeanor! His cleaning was OK. But his listening and caring skills weren't there. I had an unfortunate situation with my condo. It didn't have a working furnace when I bought it. I wanted the carpets cleaned before moving in. I explained this to him when I phoned, and asked him if I should bring heaters.(This was early February). He said no, just fans. John did a good job on mine and no stains came back later. He was on time, polite and reasonably priced His truck mounted system is more powerful than others I have found. I would think Its partly the customers job to not walk on wet carpets and wick up the stain thats in maybe in the padding , or close up the house too soon and cause moisture issues. I have a big old noisy de humidifier to take out moisture so I always run it after it rains a lot or carpets are cleaned. I recommend them as wet air feels colder than dry and 50-60% humidity makes a house smell better -feel better than higher levels. read more

My carpet was overdue for a cleaning plus there were bad coffee stains in several areas. John did a great job getting everything clean, but after the carpet dried the coffee spots were still visible. He went the extra mile to call me back to tell me about a wonderful spot cleaning solution of 1 cup white vinegar and 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide. I have been using John at North Bay for several years now, in 4 different houses. I called him the first time because we had a coupon. I figured for $100 (back then it was for my whole house!) if it only lasted a few months it was still worth it. I always seem to end up in houses with white or light carpet, and I have one boy (now an adult, but who made MANY carpet stains throughout his young life) and 3 dogs and a cat.. The dogs are now older and don't seem to remember that their bathroom is outside! They also seem to eat things they shouldn't (chocolate, popcorn kernels, etc.) and then throw it up on the carpet or worse. So in between the regular, whole house cleanings of each new house, he has made many emergency trips to my house to clean up accidents. He seems to always undercharge, by quoting me a cost on the phone before even seeing the mess, then comes over to clean and insists on holding to his quoted price. I have checked, and there is NO ONE around Marin county who is as reasonable, fast, and works hard on each individual stain. Recently we returned from a trip and our house/dog sitters had accidentally left a bunch of chocolate out where the dogs could get it, AND they accidentally locked them all in the house. The mess (and the smell) was unreal!! And all over the carpet!! I called John even before I unpacked, and he was there in 1 day. I cannot say enough about what a great job he does, and what a nice guy he is. He is pretty laid back which may seem unprofessional to some, but he's honest and down to earth. I will continue to use him. He does most of the work himself, and works a long day. If the carpets are still damp, I just put down towels or sheets to walk on till it's dry...usually in 24-48 hours. I spoke with John and got a quote for area rug and runner, upholstery, and kitchen and bathroom tile grout cleaning. He seemed very accommodating and we agreed on a base price and a price not to exceed by. He even suggested that his prices were so good, I could call other vendors and see how good a deal I was getting. I phoned him today to ask advice about sealing the grout after cleaning. He started asking me the details of the job again in a very agitated voice, and then said that there was no way he could do it for the price he quoted. I told him that nothing had changed in the scope of the job since our first conversation. At this point he raises his voice, practically yelling at me, saying that he way under quoted and I should be happy he was telling me this on the phone and not at my front door. I said there was no reason to raise his voice and he then said very loudly he would not do the job and hung up on me. I have never encountered such unprofessionalism and rudeness. It really shook me up because he seemed so nice on our first conversation. He is a real Jekyll and Hyde. read more
