Lovely natural foods market, except for an incident I had with a cashier. I went there around 9:30 AM and the place was a little empty, quiet, which is how I love to do my shopping. I went to a register to pay for my items, when I heard a snap. This was from the cashier accidentally ripping my plastic covering on my Lacey's. Which was fine. However, she didn't say sorry or alert me! This is how our conversation went between me and the cashier. M: This is ripped, can I get a new one? C: You can go get it. I'll just charge you for it now. M: Ok. Can you watch my stuff while I go grab it? C: Well, I'm going to be gone. But she can watch your stuff. *points to a random cashier next to her who has her back turned* M: *ran to go get my new Lacey's. Then came back, but the cashier was gone. * M: *with the other 2 cashiers staring at me, I wanted to make it clear that I'm not stealing by explaining my situation* C: *comes out of no where* "I already told you!" M: "Okay?!" *shook my head and left* This would of been a much better, pleasant experience if the cashier was just a little nicer and maybe more honest and sincere. I'm new to this area and was just buying gifts to take back with me. Most of the employees I spoke with were so nice, except for cashier on lane 3. My 83 year old mother prefers to shop at the Co-op, there is no such thing as an inexpensive trip to shop there. She especially likes the butchers and produce. It is great that you can find many things there that are not available at other grocery stores in Eureka. But, this morning she went to pick up her meat for her Easter dinner, got some cheese and vegetables. 3 stands had their light on for being checked out at. The first had another customer, the second did not have a clerk in it and the third was the "customer service" counter with no customers. As she unloads her basket the clerk stared to interrogate her as to how many items she had. Tells her that 10 is the limit, but he doesn't want to argue about it. She didn't know how many items she had, but he did his best to make an 83 year old uncomfortable and regret coming to his counter or even the store she has shopped at for years. When he was done she asked how many items she ended up having, his reply "I don't know". He mistake was not having her receipt printed out. We all have off days, but really that is uncalled for. I know that if the same situation played out at Safeway, Eureka Natural Foods, Murphy's or Winco, the clerk would have not said anything, just checked out the customer. Happy this guy found a position as a union retail clerk and not a position that requires a badge. read more

5:00 p.m. on a Saturday, We want a deli sandwich. Cash in hand, we go attempt to get one from this place and are unsuccessful. Our consolation prize was a major attitude from the girl in the deli. We hypothesize she was pissed at us that we were there, because she just finished wrapping the food in the display case. Because she wanted to GTFO early. I wanted to tell her we would have settled for the stuff she wrapped up, instead of the sandwich, but her vibe gave off that nothing was for sale. She had determined it off limits. Empowered! In a way, I am glad I went. Reminded me what a stupid asshole we all are when in our twenties. I left feeling grateful for the attitude adjustment that comes with getting older. We were really hungry though so...it was kinda a waste of time. read more

All the choices of food are legit. I still prefer eureka wholefood more, but this is second to it. Definitely more affordable and quality still great. They sell some beanies and scarfs on the side which is pretty cool. Also noteworthy is the selection of coffee for all those coffee lovers. Going to the back you can smell the strong coffee aroma. Other than that, this is a higher end safeway, but smaller in size. read more

I stopped in here the other day for some food to take with me. I bought an alleged roast beef and provolone sandwich for $7.29 and they don't have the meats. Very stingy with the portions and for the price might as well have gone to a fast food joint and taken one for the team. Also when I paid the cashier with a credit card he didn't offer me a copy of the receipt which should be automatic. Wrong! One good thing about their locked bathrooms is at least I looked respectable enough for them to give me the code. I love going to Eureka/Arcata but no more of this market. read more

VERY rude. I'm a good guy, calm, full of respect and disciplined. I'm raising a 13 year old man child...I must be the example I want him to see and respect. We went in to shop 2021, and were immediately pounced on by a child (18 or younger) wearing a mask demanding we do the same. This person clearly was ignorant to our rights or the legalities of such and absurd request. My son is labeled asthmatic as am I...we suffered from a serious fire, both extreme heat and smoke inhalation which permanently scarred our throats and lungs heavily. We took the time to get doctors notes though requiring us to discuss a legitimate medical condition is ILLEGAL. Nonetheless, we did this and still, we were in a VERY NASTY way thrown out of this store. We live in the area, we are part of a community and we have all agreed, this time around, if Coop forces masks on us, we'll take our business to Winco and Walmart who NEVER harassed us. It's our money and business they clearly do not want so this time around it will be easy. read more

So great to find so many healthy options in a grocery store in Eureka! I go here all the time. During Covid I've been picking up a lot of prepackaged items from their deli & getting some frozen items - vegetarians rejoice, there are many choices! I especially enjoy the produce area - everything is fresh all the time. Definitely a go-to for me. read more

My complaint is specific to Randy the Senior Clerk at the Eureka branch. My mask was on, albeit not tightly, as to allow myself some space between the mask and my face so that I could breath. Randy went above and beyond his health-enforcement duties, and during checkout, He aggressively walked over and rudely told me to raise my mask. I did not say a word, and I pulled the mask tightly against my face, just as he ordered me to do. My wife then asked him why he had to be rude and authoritative when he ordered me to adjust my mask. This is the point when he abused his authority as senior clerk by ordering the cashier to stop checking us out, and ordered my family to leave the store. He had no right to throw us out and force us to leave, but he did so just because his pride was wounded, and he wanted to flex his power as senior clerk by ordering us out of the store. As a co-op member and frequent shopper, I am appalled at this behavior by a low-level management employee, and strongly urge upper management to seek a different type of person to operate managerial duties of their stores. read more

I can describe this store in one word; Fabulous ! This store elevates Eureka to new level. I was so surprised by the young blood culture in there. Natural Foods, alternative foods, prepared foods and a CAFE too! (heart) :-D The community feeling in the co-op is as close to Trader Joes as I have ever felt, --and the nearest TJ's is in Redding ! I think I actually like North Coast Co.Op --gulp -- BETTER than T.J's ! I'll be stopping here anytime I'm on the coastal route from CA to BC. read more

The Elitest grocery store of Eureka. Eating organic and local should not be pricey but here it is. While the store is clean and staff helpful, you can tell this is another local business cornering food costs and profits are going to those locals who really run things around here. While I admire the spirit of the Co-Op it sold out a long time ago compared to what it truly was many years ago. This is the only other place we shop. The Co Op and Costco. I love this store & love the selection, but hate the cashiers, they are completely daft and freaking slow. Come on People how hard is it to scan something then collect money, apparently to hard for those that work at this store! . Do not expect to go in get what you need and be out. I am a bit obsessed with the Co-op. I can browse the isles for hours it seems. Whenever I come home to visit, I stop by the deli at least once for their amazing tuna salad sandwiches. Plus, I like finding all of the local foods and beers to try. The absolute best! Bonus: I had knee surgery and they have a motorized cart that makes shopping a breeze. Plus, the wonderful staff loaded my groceries in my car for me. Extra stars!!! read more

We were looking for a grocery store in Eureka - any grocery store really, we would have stopped at Safeway/Rays/Fred Meyer - but found the Co-Op. We were so lucky! The food was beautiful and the store had an excellent supplement/health care section - perfect for finding natural bug spray! The staff went above and beyond and were very helpful. The items that we purchased were fantastic. I'm still thinking about the loaf of bread that we had - delicious! The prices for basics might have been a bit higher than at a "normal" store - but the quality far exceeded my expectations and the prices were fair given the quality. Next time I'm in Eureka I'd like to try to schedule some more time to explore the bulk and health food sections! read more

My co-worker recommended this place as the stop we needed to make before we left Eureka. Walk in, smells yummy, isle upon isle of interesting items, natural and not. I placed an order at the deli for a sandwich for the road. Then wandered the store. I ended up getting coconut macaroons, a sweatshirt, popcorn and my sandwich. Holy cow! I bit into my sandwich and was in heaven. I ordered distal turkey on a French roll, jalenpenos, peppers, lettuce, pepper jack cheese and their special mustard. Fresh, moist turkey, lots of veggies, good cheese. Macaroons were soft and flavorful. I will be back the next time I am in Eureka! read more

This is the best natural food store in Humboldt county. Great service, weekly specials, affordable produce and the store is modern and clean. This place is so much better than Eureka Natural foods and it's actually a co-op so supporting them is supporting the community. (Unlike ENF where they are sexist and for profit) My only complaint is that I wish they would step it up with their breakfast and hot food. Unfortunately I have to go to ENF for hot breakfast because co-ops isn't as good. Step this up and we will never have to go to ENF again. (Potatoes, eggs, and gravy pleeasssse) read more

Probably the best produce section in the county...Meat section is terrible. Not because of the selection, but because of the staff and prices. Short little dude with the Giants hat, real jerk...other dude with the beard, total jerk. Went there the other day, Fresh local Crab, $7.99/lb. Eureka Natural foods, $5.98/lb....pay more, and you get a crappy attitude! No thanks. Deli also is a staffed with weirdos, but not jerks like the meat department. Good selection of beers, priced right. All other departments are well stocked with quality products. High prices...but it is quality food. This place is completely and absolutely 100x nicer than its old location near K street. They have a really great selection of bulk foods. I made Christmas dinner with a few pounds of their bulk wheat penne pasta and other ingredients. VERY high quality stuff. In addition, their cheese selection is very nice, as is their wine and bottled soda selection. Their bakery is nice, but I'm not sure how much of it they cook themselves. If it's anything like other places in town, they may get some of their stuff from Ramone's. This is purely speculation, though. Prices are what you'd expect for a co-op: not necessarily cheap. However, you really can get everything you need under one roof. Their dungeness crab was delicious, and the overall quality of the rest of their stuff made Christmas dinner really superb in comparison to what Safeway products would have yielded. I am a member here and I have really come to love this place. Im docking a star because its quite pricey but everything else is tip top! The employees are amazing! They go above and beyond. They remember your name and take time to get to know you! Quality of food is awesome and the selection is great! Wonderful produce section and great bulk section to boot! You can find some great buys! Humboldt Creamery Organic milk is always on sale foe $2.89 a half gallon which i think is a steal! Meat counter is pretty good and for the most part well stocked. Sometimes they run out of boneless Chicken breast for a few days to a week. Deli counter has a great selection of goodies! The deitz and watson Roast beef is sooo good, bloody and rare and just amazing! They make great twice baked potatoes and tuna salad! The deli counter attendents are my favorite of all the employees! Very nice selection of fresh, healthy food, drinks and homeopathic items. It's just a bit pricey. I paid about $6.75 for a Turkey and Cheddar sandwich from the deli, and I talked myself out of buying a pack of three pieces of sushi (unagi roll) which cost $3.00. I know it's organic, but cripes, this ain't sashimi, just rice-bound rolls with a skimpy amount of filling. Some things are priced decently though. I got a vegetarian burrito that was the size and weight of a small brick for just $2.99. I wish it wasn't in such a ghetto place. read more

Lived next to a nearby motel for awhile and went there every morning for coffee. Enjoyed the amazing hot bar and deli sandwiches many times but my God, very expensive. Several times for dinner stuffed a not very large container with good grub but always around $20. Go to Safeway for basic stuff and pay half the price. My children and I love going here. We try to go at least once or twice a year because we live in Arcata. I feel that the Eureka site has something the Arcata one doesn't. Maybe it's the traffic, the presence of more people, and certain food items. read more

This market is comparable to Sprouts or maybe even a mini Whole Foods. They have a deli, sushi bar, and also bulk coffee, nuts, candy, and granola. Love that they carry Brio loaves and Los Bagels. They have plenty to choose from in their health and beauty aisle...there's also a good selection of local and different craft beers in the fridge.
