Our first time here and we were wowed with everything. Thomas our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and so friendly. We started with the pork belly wraps and they were exceptional! We debated getting two of them so good. I had the roasted chicken that was the best. It's seasoned like nothing I've ever had. My husband had the bone in pork chop and he was shocked at how good it was. Seems like it was marinated and fresh herbs that just blended with wonderful flavors. This place was wonderful! We had such a good time trying the different dishes on the menu and each one was delicious. The food they offered was so different than other places in Escalante and were experimental in the best way. They had an inclusive menu which was nice to see. Our waiter was very nice and he made great recommendations. The new owner came by our table throughout the night and chatted with us making us feel welcome. She spoke about how they opened recently and are working with local food sources for their dishes. We heard good things about this restaurant so we stopped in on Easter. They were booked for the evening but they were very kind and found a way to get us in a little bit later, which we appreciated. The food was so uniquely and delicious. Flavor combinations that I had not experienced before and enjoyed immensely. The staff was unbelievably kind and helpful. The chef even came out to discuss and explain some of the delicious combinations he had created that we were curious about. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant as a wonderful surprise in a beautiful small town destination. We've stayed at the Slot Canyons Inn twice over the past 2 years and each time have had dinner at the North Creek Grill. The restaurant operates Wednesday through Saturday evenings for dinner, and reservations are strongly suggested and best made via text message to Bryce at 435-287-5929. Plan on being there for 90 minutes plus if they're busy. Our most recent dinner was wonderful. We started with wine and a peach bellini, and ordered an appetizer to share, as well as dinner. Bread that was promised never showed up. Our appetizer was an imaginative eggplant rollatini with raisins, pignoli, tomato sauce, cheese, and fresh basil. There were 3 pieces. My husband and I each ordered penne pasta for dinner. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and had bacon, onions, plenty of grilled chicken breast, fresh mozzarella, and a great fresh tomato sauce. It was garnished with a slice of dried tomato. Bellissimo! Those taking orders and serving were really nice and congenial...and hardworking. But the service was quite slow, possibly because a very large group with quite a few children was dining at the same time. We did notice that another couple arrived soon after us and seemed to receive preferential treatment. The restaurant has 2 dining spaces, one in a unique grotto space that is accessed by going through the kitchen. North Creek Grill is not inexpensive, but has the best sit-down meals in Escalante and is worth a visit! read more

Beautiful venue with great views! Food was perfect. I had the steak my husband had the meatloaf. We wanted something more than pizza which is much of what Escalante has to offer for dinner in town. This place was an incredible find. It's located west of Escalante, UT, but it's off the main road (UT-12) and there's no sign visible from the road; you have to go maybe a half-mile down some dirt roads. It's located at the Slot Canyon Inn, which does have a visible sign. It has maybe 8-12 tables, all outdoors. Both the food and the service were impeccable. First rate. I had the Chile Relleno with Oaxacan Mole, stuffed with rice and tomato and covered with a variety of seeds and Mexican cheese, and it was wonderful. My wife had the special, which was a half-rack of baby back ribs with a marinade of fresh peaches (picked by the chef), mustard, and just a bit of habanero, accompanied by really great beans and collard greens. All of the tables are outdoors, which shouldn't pose a problem most of the time in this area and gives you fabulous views in all directions. Prices were very reasonable. Entrees ("large plates") were in the $20-30 range. The wine we had, Bogle Cabernet, was $10/glass. You won't find this place by just cruising. Your GPS will take you to the door, though. It's worth the trip! read more

The good: food excellent, however it would be wonderful if the main courses could include a fresh vegetable, and for the meal price, one or two sauted carrots or some steamed broccoli would have been a nice addition! The location is beautiful, however our reserved table for 5 was placed very close to the wall of restrooms. From our side of the table our view was watching people enter, see the interior with toilet, watch them open the door while washing hands, so we could continue seeing the toilet while we ate. Extremely unappealing! The restaurant should install a screen, and with as much care as the owners have put into the overall aesthetics of the property, which is stunning, it's baffling that this particular need wasn't noticed. In addition, hostess was running around with her purse on her shoulder, like she was needing to run home instead of seating folks, bringing water etc. ...distracted and unprofessional. The waiter seemed very bored. We've eaten here once a year for about 5 years, and the ambience (due to the lucky placement of our tables then) and service was better then. read more

I ate here for four nights while staying at Slot Canyons Inn. All four dinners were simply spectacular. The fresh rainbow trout (evening special) was offered twice and it was over-the-top delicious both times. The rib eye was perfectly cooked and came with a hot stone so you could sizzle up each bite before eating it. Wonderful flavor! I also enjoyed the pizza. I ordered the fish meal and it says trout but I was served salmon, still good. On the outskirts of a remote western town with surrounding landscape that looks like it might be from an old John Wayne movie, along a two-lane highway, hidden down a dirt road that you blink and you will miss, is a gem of a restaurant that is a must visit for any food connoisseur. It's quite ironic how such a remote, hidden place might just be one of the top restaurants in Utah. We ate as a family, and did the family dinner - this is a sampling of numerous items on the menu, shared with all members of our party. I recommend it if you have at least 4 or more people in your group - you will want to try as many of the items on the menu as you can. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but that is not an issue due to the wonderful, rare taste of the food. Never tried buffalo or rabbit meat? Afraid to try it? Don't be - it was wonderful! Perfectly flavored and tender. The Italian appetizers were absolutely incredible - so perfectly fresh and authentic. I spent two years in Italy, and these "antipasti" were as good as any there. Thank you Yelp for helping me find this place for my family. We were greeted and sat within 5 minutes to this beautiful place on ranch land in the desert. My family and I were welcomed by a friendly puppy Chaco and elder dog, Rosco. We sat and ordered meatballs and a Cesar salad of arugula and kale. Dressing was not to heavy on local greens. Beers were going down smoothly. Enjoyed eating at n the open air setting. We ordered cheese pizzas for the kiddos. Hubs ordered Ribeye that came with a lava rock to ensure every bite was hot; a totally new experience. I ordered the trout which was delicious. The polenta could have been hotter but I still devoured it. We finished the meal with molten chocolate lava cake and chocolate chip cookie, both with ice cream. Both were good but the cookie was voted top of the list by everyone in our family. We ended this awesome experience with a short walk up to some petroglyphs on the property. This is part of a boutique hotel in a very isolated place and mostly family-run. The dishes were innovative and tasty - very surprising for a place in nowhereland. We enjoyed the view from the patio but for those who seek a quieter place the alcove behind the kitchen area is very cozy. The steak (said to be from its own herd of Texas longhorns etc one can see adjacent to the property) looked great and the diners next to us swore to it. We stopped in here after a long day hiking last week. Despite our dusty appearance and tired faces, we were greeted with a smile and shown to a table on a lovely semi private deck behind the kitchen. We started with the stuffed mushrooms and had the salmon salad and meatloaf for dinner. The food was well prepared and cooked to temperature, although I would have preferred some more veggies in addition to the carrots.
