A lovely little gem of a place that's out of the way but worth finding. Obviously used to be someone's beautiful home back in the day but now it's a cozy restaurant that also has a nice outdoor dining situation on their big deck. Took the chef a minute to nail the temperature on my steak (but I'm finicky that way), it was a little "under" for my liking initially, but it was GREAT once it came back, the quality of the filet was outstanding. This is an amazing restaurant if you're staying at Bryce Canyon vicinity. It's in a nearby town called Tropic. Most of the food around Ruby's inn is very poor quality. This beautiful house upscale restaurant off the beaten pad is for grown adults and it shows it. Probably the only place that is romantic enough to take your significant other. read more

We ordered the house bread (forgot to take a picture) -- this is a must!!! The bread was perfectly crisp on the outside and very soft on the inside. Their house made butter paired so well with the bread. We ordered two steaks-- ribeye for me & New York for my hubs. We both asked for medium & mine was cooked perfectly. The New York was more on the rare side. Still seasoned well! You can order the steaks with either the rosemary butter or chimichurri sauce. This is probably one of the nicer restaurants around Bryce Canyon and we chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday... but I found the ambiance, food and service to be just "okay" maybe a 3.25 or a 3.5 if I'm generous. Ambiance -- the restaurant is in what looks like a house with a bunch of tables in what would be the living room. It wasn't bad but a feel like a little more could be done to make it feel more warm and inviting Food -- I was really looking forward to some delicious food based on the reviews and though it wasn't bad... nothing about it was memorable. The steak was fine, the fish and shrimp was also fine but the asparagus was not great and we ended up not eating half of it. Dessert was probably the highlight, followed by the expensive coconut chicken and even that was just okay. we left a little hungry and ended up getting snack later that night elsewhere. From our first encounter with the host/owner through our dinner, we had a thoroughly pleasant experience. Stone Hearth Grille is a gem in the fairly sparse dining scene in Tropic. The menu was interesting and varied. We enjoyed a well-prepared, tender filet au poivre and a lovely grilled sea bass. The vegetable accompaniments were well cooked. Several dishes in the menu were new, suggesting that Stone Hearth Grille isn't content to rest on its laurels. Stone Hearth Grille had a surprisingly good wine list with relatively reasonable prices. You'll find much better options by the bottle versus by the glass. Service was very good and attentive throughout the evening. If we're ever in this vicinity again, we would definitely make a stop here! When the weather is nicer, their lovely patio would be a delightful spot to take in the stunning view. read more

We were really looking forward to having a special dinner after being on the road for three days. Unfortunately our server Geni put a big damper on the night. I waited 20 minutes to be checked on after being served an almost raw $60 steak. Parts of my son's steak were also raw but he ate around them. When I pointed it out Geni threw up her hands and defensively proclaimed that she didn't cook them and asked "what do you want?" My son and I did not get to eat together and the treatment of us was dismal. This type of situation deserved, at the very least, an apology. One steak really should have been comped or at least a desert on the house. I was sad to be put in the position of leaving no tip. I've never done that but felt it appropriate. A once in a lifetime trip with my son and a birthday dinner ruined. Other waitstaff seemed to enjoy their jobs and taking care of their customers. The positive aspects were the pleasant deck outside, homemade bread and my eventually appropriately cooked steak was delicious with the Worcestershire sauce. read more

The Stone Hearth Grille is a gem!! The service is excellent; staff is personable, knowledgeable and funny!! And the food is delicious!

My husband and I were incredibly excited to dine at this establishment, during our honeymoon trip. Which, even though we mentioned that in our reservation, was never acknowledged. We did not expect special treatment because we were celebrating, but why ask if there is a special occasion, if you are not making your guests feel special, and well taken care of? Unfortunately, our service from Jesus lacked, as he was incredibly inattentive, and seemed to be more interested with guests who were seated outside - we were the only couple seated inside, and while he had other tables, we continually watched him walk past us. There was no true ambiance as the "house" was brightly lit, with the addition of candles on the tables, that we, actually, did not have on our table. There was no music of any kind, or anything to mask the sound of my husband and I speaking, or the sound of liquid pouring off of the plate that a young, blonde man, was carrying to the table, behind a server. Our Cesar salads were delicious - I prefer a little extra dressing, but that is a "me" thing, not a restaurant's problem - it was plated beautifully! The steak? Cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were delicious, and the broccoli was also good. But overall, for a $150 check, all things need to be considered, not only the food. read more

Exceptional food, attentive and knowledgeable service and a scenic view from the patio make it a memorable place to dine. The fresh halibut with shrimp was spectacular as was the grass-fed local Beef Filet Mignon, which was grilled to perfection . Sitting on the patio and watching the sun set on the colorful mountains was so pretty. Wine by the glass selections are very good and work well with the dinner entrees. We stopped by the Stone Hearth Grille on our National/State Park hopping trip. This place is up a road that extends beyond the local high school. When I say up, quite literally vertically up the side of a foothill in Tropic, Utah between Kodacrome Basin State Park and Bryce Cannon National Park. Tropic has a unique food scene. There is a bakery... quite good. And, there are several campground and gas station restaurants. (We did not try these.) We were looking for something a little more fancy. Yet, in reality... we had been hiking on 100 degree heat... camping for many days in our slide-in-truck camper. What we liked about the Stone Hearth Grille - these people are workers with grit and hustle. Service was top notch and they seemed happy. That is a huge plus for me. The view was fantastic. (Photos will attest.) They handle dietary needs well as we have some food allergies. Additionally, the restaurant and surrounding property is beautiful (clean, landscaped in a sustainable tasteful way, decorated with a western bougie flare). What not to like [I apologize in advance for being picky. Yet, the price point allows me to do so.] the food was not executed well. We found our meals (salmon wellington and spaghetti with duck) to be better than average, but not great. They were on the bland and barely warm side. Plus, the red wine was the wrong temperature entirely. I am sure that this is an anomaly. I hope others can attest to this being a one off day. We were genuinely thrilled to come to your restaurant. Your posted hours said you were open until 9:30 p.m., so we planned our evening around that promise. We dressed up, set out after dark, and made the long drive--navigating winding roads, dodging prairie dogs and deer, and arriving tired but excited. When we finally reached your doors, full of anticipation, the restaurant was closed. No notice. No explanation. Just darkness. With no alternatives, we retreated to the local market and ate Texas toast burgers with frozen Ore-Ida french fries--hardly the evening we had imagined or dressed for. The disappointment was real. This was a delight after a day of driving and hiking. The patio faces a picturesque view of Powell Point. I would recommend making a reservation right at dinner opening hours to get the best view on the patio. This is a small and classy restaurant, different from the other places in Bryce Canyon City. It has an air of fine dining. The waiters look like college students but are courteous and professional. The plating of the food is "fancy", again relative to other restaurants in the area. The patio is a great place to sit and enjoy the view, especially at sunset. Food was solid. We had the prawn appetizer and the chicken piccata. Both were good. It is expensive for what you get though. The restaurant is really off the beaten path in a residential area. Truly amazing meal!!!! The duck with red wine sauce spaghetti is the best dish I have had in 2025. Seconds that with the beet salad with apples. They have a delicious selection of desserts and we chose the vanilla drizzled oatcake with raspberry sorbet. Our server Jesus was most attentive. An easy 5 stars. Best restaurant in the region. Between us 3 people, I got to try: French onion soup: not my thing overall but was decent Tenderloin steak, w/ side of broccolini and mashed potatoes: I picked chimichurri topping My son had steak also which he was happy with. My husband had the halibut, side of asparagus (This was kind of limp and chewy- which is unusual for a high end place w/$50 entrees): this order also had shrimp. Unfortunately we had a bad experience at the Stone Hearth Grille. Sunday July 27th while checking in at the Stone Canyon Inn we booked a table for our family of 5 for Monday July 28th. When booking we had a glance at the tables outside on the terrace, admired the wonderful view and said that we looked forward to enjoying this view during our dinner the next day. My wife, son and daughter arrived exactly on time on Monday July 28th. When I got there 3 minutes later with my daughter I walked outside on the terrace - where 3 of the around 12 tables were filled - but could not find our family members. I walked back inside to ask where they were sitting and was told to walk further around the terrace were there would be another spot. We walked back outside past the three filled tables (a gentleman on one of the tables smiled when we passed and said 'they have hidden them around the corner') to find my wife, son and daughter sitting in what we thought was the storage room for the terrace furniture. It was around the corner on the side of the building with two walls, roller screens on the third side and no view at all ( !! ). Furniture was piled up against the walls and we were literally put away from the restaurant and the terrace. Of course this was not what we expected nor had reserved. I walked back inside to speak to the restaurant manager to request if we could be replaced to one of the empty tables on the terrace. I immediately got a straight answer "no" and that this table was the only option. His blunt answer somewhat upset me. I informed if they were fully booked that night with no other tables available. He said they were not fully booked (later we noticed it was just the three tables and our family that night) and the only other option was to have a table inside. Apart from the fact that the entire inside was completely empty, one of the reasons to have dinner at the Stone Hearth Grille was to enjoy the view. When I pointed at the empty tables on the terrace and requested once again to please replace our family to one of these tables the restaurant manager said that we might experience nuisance from mosquitos there. When I replied that we would accept that risk one of the waiters stepped in and said the we could not have one of these tables out of 'safety measures'. Now it became clear to me that they were making reasons up as they went along and I insisted to leaving the table in the 'storage room' and getting one of the other tables. The unoccupied tables on the terrace where set-up as either for 4 persons or 2 persons. It was of course very easy to combine a 2-persons table with a 4-persons table to create a table suitable for a family of 5. The restaurant manager refused and unwillingly said we could sit a one of the available 4-persons table and that was it. Since it was 08pm and there are no other similar dining options in Tropic and surroundings we had no choice than to sit at a 4 persons table with our family of 5 for a three-course meal. I took the seat on the corner of the table and it all more or less looked like a scene from Fawlty Towers. Especially when the waiter started serving our menus and there was hardly any room on the table for the plates and glasses. Around 08:30pm we got our main course and expect one other table with 4 guests the complete terrace was empty. We never saw the restaurant manager again nor saw any mosquito that night. We spend around 100 usd per person. Food was OK to good. The view magnificent. The atmosphere terrible and service worse. We refused to let this bad experience ruin our holiday and decided to forget about. Now back home and cleaning my mailbox I bumped into a reservation confirmation email and decided to leave this review after all. We simply cannot reason why we were put on that bad table in the first place or why they refused to address or request to be replaced in any way. Perhaps they do not like young people on their (empty) terrace (our children are 12, 16 and 18 and appreciate fine dining)? Perhaps the restaurant manager had a bad day? read more

Looking for a special dinner occasion while visiting Bryce Canyon? This is definitely the place. We tried to make a reservation for a large group of 15 and it was a no go. They said that they can't handle that many people at once and it would overwhelm the kitchen. We decided to break from our group and made reservation for two instead. On the day of the reservation, the rest of the group decided to come anyway to see if there were any seatings. This was at 5pm when the restaurant first opened. The place was pretty empty. It was me and my partner with the reservation at 5pm and another couple. Even with that, they can't handle an extra 15 people. That is so unfortunate that they can't serve a full/semi full house. Hopefully this was only temporary due to staffing issues. The location is quiet and intimate. The outdoor patio is a must. We ordered the homemade bread and beet ravioli for appetizer. The bread was good but I agreed with other reviewers that it was not worth it when other restaurants would serve that complimentary. The beet ravioli was divine...totally not what I was expecting to use the beet slices as the ravioli. I had the grilled halibut. The fish was perfectly grilled, nice grill marks and the fish was tender and juicy. The shrimps were nice addition but it was the sauce that boosted the fish to another level. Highly recommend. My partner decided to go with some sides, potato purée and Mac & cheese, as the main course. There was a vegetarian entree option but she does not like peppers. While the idea of this restaurant is great and the view is fantastic, I am sorry to say that there is nothing very exceptional about the food here. For the price point, I expected it to be a higher quality of meat - I tried the NY strip- and there was a lot of connective tissue to sort through. My husband had the ribeye- same issue. Probably 1/4 of the meat was discarded due to the difficulty in chewing it. For a place that says they are a "steakhouse" and charges $$$, they need to invest in some better quality ingredients. read more

We loved this place. Delicious food. We were in town to hike Bryce and made reservations in advance to come here. I highly recommend reservations. The halibut is really excellent. The best thing we got ! I got the ribeye which was also great and a bigger portion size than I expected. . I am attaching some photos of the menu. I see that other people posted menus but they do seasonal menus and the other photos are out of date. This is what they were serving in July 2021. All in all it has a high end feel and great views. Yes you might pay $38 for an entree so know that going in. Also - they have beer and wine but no mixed drinks or hard alcohol. A big plus was the GF clearly marked. This is Bryce Cannon's offer of fine dining after a day outdoors. Reservations are highly recommended, we were able to make same day reservations. The indoor space is small, maybe 10 table. The outdoor space is beautiful with a heated patio and view of the mountains. I got the impression outdoor dining is limited to certain times of the year. We ordered the beet salad, bread, French onion soup, and the 14oz Ribeye with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Beer Salad - excellent. Paired with a walnut topping and an citrus fruit. The citrus really cut the earthiness of the beet. Perfectly made. Bread - served with whipped butter. Bread was warm, soft, and nicely salted. 6 dollars for 4 slices of bread - but I would order it every time. French onion soup - very hearty heavy with onions. Bread still has crunch - nice texture, topped with melted cheese. Ribeye - cooked medium rare by preference, topped with the house made Worcestershire sauce. Nicely done. Slight grilled taste. The rosemary butter was also delicious - I would recommend pairing the two. (Although it says choose one). Mashed potatoes - nicely done. Broccolini - a little firm in texture.
