Delicious hot and cold deli sandwiches, hot dogs, salad, soup, snacks, along with craft beer... it's all good! North Fork Deli, located in downtown Auburn, CA has all of your bases covered, with delicious deli cuisine, served by super friendly staff. The restaurant is located inside Gold Country Mall, which is a renovated 1890's era commercial building, which has been converted into a mini-mall, where many small specialty shops are located. North Fork Deli has a prime location, as it faces Lincoln Way, which is the main street in downtown Auburn. As you enter the deli, you'll notice the order counter, the posted menus, along with the friendly staff hard at work. Both menus are posted above the counter, which includes the "main menu," which lists the full array of both hot and cold sandwiches, along with "Classic" sandwiches. If you prefer, you can order online and pick up your order at the store, or use a service to have it delivered to you. There are five craft beers on tap, along with one alcoholic cider. All are from the greater Sacramento area, which is known all over the country for the abundance of micro breweries in northern California. I went with a 20-oz pint of "Hazy Hop Goblin IPA," which is brewed by Fort Rock Brewing Company in Rancho Cordova, CA. From the "Soup of the Day" menu, I went with a cup of clam chowder, which was today's soup on this Friday. In reality, I'd planned to order a side of potato salad, but the restaurant was out of it today, so I went with soup, which always works. I certainly made the right choice, as this was one of the BEST cups of clam chowder that I've EVER had the pleasure to enjoy! Amber's clam chowder was tastier than some of the clam chowder served by the famous restaurants on the west coast. She was proud to point out that her clam chowder was made fresh, in-house, earlier today. This was a cup of "New England" clam chowder, and it would make any lover of clam chowder in New England proud. The chowder began with a thick, rich broth, most probably using half-and-half, along with butter for richness. Diced potato, celery and minced clams - duh - were in the soup, along with seasonings. Bacon graced the cup to add to the appearance and to the flavor. It all added up to a simply amazing bowl of "comfort food" which worked well with my hot dog and beer. From the "Hot Sandwiches" section of the menu, I went with a "Hot Dog" as my main entree, with "everything" on it except ketchup. It is nearly impossible for me to resist a hot dog, in any way, shape or form, as I simply LOVE them! I'm a true believer in "everything" when it comes to a hot dog, as the veggies not enhance the flavor of a dog, but then make it a "healthy" meal. Well, sort of... The dog was a meaty quarter pound, split down the middle, and grilled on a commercial hot dog appliance, as per state mandate. The dog was big, long and split nearly in half - the length of the dog - to enhance the grilling. The dog was juicy, tender and flavorful. I didn't note a "snap" when I bit into the dog, but perhaps that was on the account of the copious amount of condiments my dog was dressed with, as per my request. The dog was placed on a regular size hot dog bun, which didn't stand out to me as anything special. The grilled dog was placed on the bun, which was lightly coated with mayonnaise, as per my request, and the dog was drizzled with mustard. Mustard is essential for a hot dog, no way around it. Then the party started, as the chef added sauerkraut, sliced red bell pepper, pickled jalapeno pepper slices, along with diced white onion. Oh my! ... as the veggies made for a dog well-dressed, and truly a meal for hot dog lovers! One bite into this delicious hot dog rewarded me with a cornucopia of delicious flavors, centered around the juicy dog wrapped in the fresh bun. The fresh sauerkraut, bell pepper, jalapeno slices and white onion truly added both "zest" and flavor. Mustard added a tangy flavor. Simply delicious! The meat-to-bun ratio was spot-on, the tangy mustard added an "edge" to the dog, and the load of vegetables simply enhanced the hot dog, and didn't overpower it. What more can I add? North Fork Deli serves an amazing hot dog, that will delight all "foodies" and lovers of quality hot dogs. The food is simply amazing, as it's mouth-watering delicious, fresh, attractively prepared and the portions are generous. Amber and her staff are super friendly, and will treat you like family. North Fork Deli is truly a destination for Gold Country "foodies!" Total bummer. We ordered To-go for six people. They forgot one of our sandwiches and a smoothie... which isn't. Cool when you pay and leave without the order. One half of the cheesesteak that had maybe two bites of meat and my turkey club had little to no turkey, a ton of Dijon ?? And just a bunch of spinach and sprouts and half a slice of cheese. We were headed to Reno for their annual rib cook off festival and felt hungry around the time we were passing up the Auburn area (it was about a halfway mark to our destination). I have never seen downtown Auburn or old town Auburn, so the boyfriend asked me to look up a mom and pops type of joint for lunch. North Fork Deli looked really promising based on the reviews so we had to check it out for ourselves. When we arrived -- we were kindly greeted by the owner, Patrick, who was incredibly hospitable during our entire visit. He gave us recommendations for the most sought out sandwiches on their menu. And of course, the boyfriend tried one of their beers on tap. I had the Pastrami sandwich on rye, and the handsome man ordered the Turkey Deluxe on rye. We didn't want to get too full for the road so we decided to go with just the half sandwiches which worked out perfectly because even that was very filling. We both agreed that the bread was really good, meats were loaded with flavor and of quality, and the produce used were very fresh. These guys opened up right around the SiP of 2020, so if they survived that - it should be telling that they're really pushing out some good things. As you drive around Auburn you'll see giant statues of Native Americans, prospectors, and the like. I have no idea of the history of these and am far too lazy to google it. I bring this up because I vote that the sandwiches at North Fork Deli should also be honored by giant statues around town. If you want to celebrate a good part of Auburn's history- the delicious sandwiches from here deserve a monument. Actually, I'm sure the owners would appreciate it more if you just came and got one. The 5 star reviews are legit. There is real care put into every sandwich, plus you'll get to hear the owner humming along to the music while he cooks, which I find endearing. An absolute must stop while you are in town. Get here soon. Once the sandwich statues are built, you will have a much longer line to wait in for your lunch. I would also settle for North Fork Deli sandwiches being added to the current statues. Such a pleasant surprise to be greeted by the Nick the owner and his family. Warm, welcoming, And maybe the best pastrami sandwich we've had. We used to stop at another place in Auburn when coming back to Reno from the Bay Area, and I was disappointed that it had closed down until discovering our new stop, North Fork Deli! What a great find - thanks to Yelp for the reviews! Looking at the menu from the road, I knew I was going to get the Sicilian Tuna, and it exceeded all expectations. It was, quite possibly, the best tuna sandwich I've ever had. They use yellowfin tuna and don't ruin it by mushing it up with a lot of mayo. They seem to leave it mostly alone, using lemon for flavor, with mayo spread on the bread instead. The sandwich also includes capers, parmesan cheese, tomato, onion, and spring greens. You have your choice of bread so I chose Dutch Crunch. Outstanding! After I ordered, I noticed there was one of the giant chocolate chip cookies that I read about here on Yelp left under a glass dome on the counter, so I got that, too. I was lucky-- it was the last one! I took a bite and told the man behind the counter it was absolutely delicious! He thanked me and told me he bakes them fresh every morning. Some up-charges are listed on menu some are not. Certain meats have up-charges and these are not listed at all. They also charge a to go fee. Thankfully the reviews lead me to a GREAT sandwich spot. They have great gluten free bread that didn't fall apart by just looking at it. The meat tasted as if it was freshly cut and very clean. The whole sandwich was delicious. 10/10 My husband ordered a regular sandwich (meaning with gluten and dairy) and he said it gave a "homemade" feel and the meat delicious.
