There we were, walking down the street. We see a sign in front of a restaurant. The pictures of the food on the signs in front looked amazing. Even without looking on Yelp, we decided that we HAD to try this place. I ordered skirt steak crusted tacos. The crusted part of the taco is burnt cheese. That was freakin' awesome. I mean, who doesn't like burnt cheese? The drinks were good as well. I had a mojito -- you could tell that everything was freshly squeezed. It had a natural taste to it that was not overpowering. Warning: Cash Only (pesos/USD) We stumbled upon this restaurant and the prices were very reasonable. They do NOT have tap water so it's better to buy bottled or just buy alcohol/lemonade- pretty cheap. I tried their bloody Mary's (I got without bacon) and they were so good! $4 and it was strong and big. Our meals took a very long time and I didn't really like mine at all. I got the tuna tostada which was overly marinated and didn't have a lot of contrasting flavors. I envied those that got salads and sandwiches- they looked amazing. My boyfriend got chicken tacos which he liked and my dad got fajitas which he said were good. My mom got the fish steak which she said tasted good but was so dry she wondered if it was chicken. We were there at least 2 hours as it took a long time to get our food and then be able to pay. I would recommend trying this place but not if you have a time limit. Be sure to bring cash! read more

Hubs and I spent one night on Isla Mujeres, and were told by other travelers to stop here for breakfast. It surely did not disappoint. The food was top notch, so fresh, so satisfying, so delectable, that we both looked up while we were eating with shock and wonder. How does a simple egg white veggie omelette taste so good? It surely doesn't taste like this back in the states. What type of voodoo do they put in this?? The place itself was super cute, with the natural green foliage hanging from the ceiling. There are no walls, you're just looking out into the island. And because it is so open, there are a ton of flies, so be prepared to be swatting left and right to get them off your food. I wish management would do something about those little pests because they were pretty much break-dancing on my last potato. I let him have it. The people are super friendly. Our server was Luis, and he was very knowledgeable about the menu and patient. Ask for Luis! This is a must try for breakfast if you are ever on the island. read more

This is a great casual spot to get wonderful food! There is only outdoor seating full of pretty greenery and it is located near the beach. The food was all around amazing ! If you are craving red meat this is the place to go! The steak was tender and not stringy at all. The fajitas are delicious and come out steaming! Can you give 7 stars? Definitely the best breakfast on Isla! Interior is really cute and wait staff is outstanding! My husband had a bagel with egg and bacon (bagel made fresh at their bakery next door) and it was Hugh and delicious. I had the cappuccino French toast- definitely unique and oh so tasty! I read many reviews of this place and decided to try it out. I wish I didn't. I ordered the Mint Basil Lemonade, Skirt Steak Fajitas, and an order of Shrimp Tacos, while my girlfriend ordered the Passionfruit Mint Lemonade and Tuna Tostadas. The drinks were the saving grace. Both the Mint Basil Lemonade and Passionfruit Mint Lemonade were fresh and delicious! We enjoyed these very much. The Skirt Steak Fajitas were a joke. The plate came to me COVERED in cheese. Probably to hide the fact that there was very little meat and just an overload of bell peppers. If I wanted the Veggie Fajitas, trust me, I would have ordered them. There was no flavor in the meat, like there was no seasoning at all. The Shrimp Tacos were the worst part. The shrimps were so dry and rubbery and they tasted very fishy. Also where was the seasoning!? At this point I think the chef is allergic to salt. I saw other tables ASKING for extra salt and pepper too, so I know I'm not the only one thinking this! However, the service was excellent. We let the server know about the Shrimp Tacos and they took them off the bill, which was a nice gesture, but not enough to make this place worth it. 2 stars for the food and drinks, and 1 star for the service. read more

Went with the family for breakfast. It's not that food isn't good or plentiful, but paying 900 pesos for 4 people (including 2 little people) really is overpriced. It's the equivalent of $50 so not really Isla Mujeres normal prices. I wish the server would let us know pancakes are huge, so we'd order only one dish for both kids. I believe a decent server should alert their customers to unusually-sized dishes. Part of the fault is mine, seeing they were around $9 each. Anyway, when most customers leave with a doggie bag, you know portions are too much. Dishes are a little more unique than most places around here, like eggs Benedict or over-stuffed bagels, but I really don't want to spend this much on breakfast and have so much leftovers. read more

I chose the French Toast Cappuccino that had toasted coconut with a drizzle of a sweet sauce that had a mild taste of cappuccino. By far the best French toast I've had. We were there in early November expecting great food. The restaurant itself is cool looking. But that's where it ended. We were very disappointed in the food. Nothing stood out as being great, and not even good. Good service might have made a difference, but the service was bad. We felt ignored. Beautiful restaurant on the island. With hanging lanterns dangling from what looked like a banyan tree, and cute decor throughout, I would recommend. We were limited on time, so we only had drinks. I had the pineapple margarita, and my boyfriend requested the server come up with "something strong"- he didn't disappoint! Great drinks! There were even chunks of pineapple in mine which was very refreshing! Wish we had more time to try the food as the dishes the servers were bringing out were drool worthy. Definitely a top restaurant on the island, no question, and you can't beat its walking location to beaches and the bustling shopping streets. We came on a recommendation from a local for their "amazing Bloody Mary." We ordered two Spock's Bloody Marys (see photo) and while good, I would not say it was the best I've ever had. The breakfast dishes, however, were incredibly good. We ordered the Rancheros Eggs sunny side up with a side of avocado (4 stars) and the chicken chilaquiles (5 stars), and a small side of fruit (5 stars). Overall, all dishes were prepared really well and I could tell that the food was clean (handled appropriately "in the back"), which is a huge deciding factor for when I personally review restaurants. The ambiance was "jungle-ish" with lush tress and plants and a treehouse aesthetic. The wait staff were welcoming and spoke both Spanish and English. Some people believe in love at first sight. Some need a few drinks, a second chance, and lobster tamales. With that being said, I love North Garden. We were seated immediately and I fell in love with the space. Many restaurants on the island use the beaches to enhance the dining experience, while North Garden created their own paradise. It was very clean, modern, and covered with beautiful, lush greenery. We ordered our tacos, received our drinks, but then were completely forgotten by our server. I watched a five top that arrived after us all get their lunch before we were even acknowledged about our missing entrees. The manager came up to our table and offered to comp us our drinks for the mistake. Of course, when in Mexico - never turn down free drinks (especially strong, delicious ones)! The tacos finally came and I remember scarfing them down. I can't recall if I scarfed them down because they were delicious or because I was starving or because of the two large margaritas I had... probably all of the above. We decided give them another chance and chose North Garden for our last breakfast at Isla Mujeres. There was a little bit of a wait, but boy was it worth it! I ordered the lobster tamales and they were heavenly! I'm constantly debating on moving to Isla Mujeres so I can eat these every day. My partner got the Cappuccino French Toast and claimed that they were the best French toast he's ever had. The manager stopped by our table and chatted with us for a little bit, sharing that he was ecstatic that we decided to give North Garden another shot. During both dining experiences, he was very friendly, kind, and helpful. I didn't catch his name, but he's definitely one of the most genuine restaurant owners I've met to date.
