When brought to attention of server, the kitchen recommended butter to "diminish" the "saltiness" of the dish. We agreed to this and thought they would redo the dish or bring melted butter. Instead, they brought a slab of butter and expected us to work it in the dish. For the price of the dish, we should not have to work that hard to enjoy the dish. Don't know if this was a one-off. The server apologized a couple of times, and you can tell she felt bad for us. We just paid and left in disgust. Just be careful if you order the bolognese. read more

Which was fine for the Caesar salad but not for the grilled bread and bolognese pasta. They don't put any silverware in the bag which I asked for. We are here for volleyball and in the hotel and it was a terrible decision to order this place for delivery. On top of replaying the thought of the moment, I think about the eggplant parmesan that I had right before it happened lol. The Bombolini dessert was similar to beignets but with a delicious creamy filling- a great way to end the meal! I had never heard of North Italia, but one of my friends eats there all the time and is obsessed with it. We decided to go there to celebrate my birthday together and were very excited to start with the heirloom tomato and burrata salad (crispy ciabatta, arugula, shaved red onion, calabrian vinaigrette), which was absolutely delicious. The tomatoes were super flavorful and a perfect complement to the creamy saltiness of the burrata. We also got the grilled bread and good olive oil (grana padano & herbs) which also had some balsamic drizzle to dip in which was also delicious. the bread was super thick and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the crust. Pro tip: save some bread to dipped in the leftover dressing from the tomato salad... it was perfection! For my entrée I opted for the chicken Parmesan (crushed tomato, aged provolone, mozzarella, parmesan rigatoni). The portion size was huge and everything tasted delicious. I really loved the side of Parmesan rigatoni as it tasted like a super decadent but lighter version of Alfredo. My friend got the spicy rigatoni vodka (italian sausage, crispy pancetta, shaved garlic, torn basil, grana padano) which was delicious and might be what I would want to order next time I go back! When the waitress found out it was my birthday, she happily brought over a surprise piece of their seasonal butter cake, which was the lemon, blueberry. Terrible. Subpar at best. Firstly, getting to the restaurant was nothing short of a hassle. Parking was costly, and it took another 20 minutes of walking to get there, so I was already tired by the time I had arrived. I would like to start off with our server, as I mentioned, it already took a while to get there. Mind you I was there with my family and they also expressed how long our server took to arrive. We were just 4 guests at the restaurant so our starters shouldn't haven't have taken too long. However, instead of taking our orders, our waiter Jeffrey A kept on yapping about the today's special and didn't give us a chance to order as well as not giving water to my dear daughter. He went on for about 4 minutes before allowing us to put in an order. It felt like talking to a brick wall. Then there was the atmosphere, I couldn't complain as it was at the heart of downtown but I couldn't hear anyone speak. Not an enjoyable place to conversate. The food. Nothing special. Pizza drizzled with heaps of oil.Their starters were all oily and sloppy. The redemption was the mozzarella which seemed to be decent quality. The desserts we ordered were revolting, really like every restaurant nowadays. Personal note to Jeff: we loved your enthusiasm but there's a time and place for that type of stuff but you should've read the room. Had a great dinner at North Italia with some coworkers -- it's the perfect spot to unwind after work. The atmosphere was good, with a nice lounge vibe, dim lighting, and music that wasn't too loud, so we could actually have a conversation without yelling over the music. We kicked things off with the meatball appetizer; they were 100% beef and served on a creamy polenta, which was a great combo and a really satisfying start to the meal. We also ordered the fried zucchini chips, they were delicious! They're basically like crispy potato chips, but better. Thinly cut zucchini, fried to perfection, and you get a big bowl to share. For the main, I had the braised short rib marsala, which was incredibly rich. They give you a ton of beef, so much so that I couldn't finish it, but it was definitely delicious. The only thing I didn't love were the Brussels sprouts-- they were a little on the hard side, but everything else was great. The other vegetables on the plate were cooked really well and paired nicely with the short rib. I tried the dark chocolate mousse pudding for dessert, which was really good. It came with a little cookie that you break into the mousse, which was a fun touch. The staff was friendly and attentive, but one of the waitresses accidentally dropped to used silverware on me, which wasn't great but mistakes happen. We ordered the calamari, Burratta, squid ink pasta, veggie salad, Brussels sprouts, Spicy broccolini, and the braised short rib w risotto. Again, Brussels sprouts were so inedibly salty and the squid ink pasta was pretty bland. I did mix it together to try to form a cohesive bite for myself. Drinks: did 2 diff red and a cab from Napa valley. How a wine from Napa fell short, I still don't understand. Also got Margherita and pomegranate mule, mule was decent. The short rib risotto was perfect. The best dish out of everything we got. The server was really nice and attentive. I think 3 stars as a whole was generous, I would say the food is 2, maybe 2.5. I made a yelp account because of how terrible the (overpriced) Arugula & Avocado salad was. $16.50 for what tasted like lemon that was kicked off the curb with a hint of actual salad leaves. When it was remade with far less lemon juice it was still so unbearable I genuinely felt sick to my stomach and almost threw up. My friend had the same salad as I did and she is dealing with a horribly upset stomach even after they remade it. Parmesan didn't help the salad at all and the prices are ridiculously expensive for proportions that are smaller then my phone. read more

I actually am a bit particular about my pastas, but this one was very delicious and I ended up eating the whole thing. I felt that the menu didn't have as many options as I would've liked, so I'm not sure if I would come again if I wanted to try something new. But they did still have a decent amount of options, including pizza which is great for kids or for a more casual dinner. Also, the prices are decent, maybe even on the cheaper side for such a nice Italian place that was so close to the White House or West End. We looked into a lot of restaurants for our dinner date near the White House and, while this one is a small walk away from it compared to a lot of other places you'll find, it's still less expensive and fancy than some other options.
