Came for happy hour with friends and had a nice time! We grabbed seats at a shared table near the bar around 6pm. It wasn't too crowded but the bar area is small so arrive early for happy hour. They have a great deal - a bottle of wine and a pizza for $40. The pizza was pretty good. Wine wasn't bad. We also had bruscetta and arancini, both good bites. Finished off with espresso martinis and a couple of their desserts. The martinis were very unique, I think they use oat milk. Not my favorite take on an espresso martini but not bad. The butter cake was just okay to me. Our server was very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was casual and not too loud. If you're in the area it's a great place for happy hour. read more

I am lucky to live close to North Italia. With their well priced and tasty food, you can't find a better Italian spot in the Foggy area. I definitely prefer the Red Hen but North Italia is a better spot for casual and last minute lunches/dinners. I've gone to North Italia at least 6-8 times and I'm never disappointed. Their pasta is fresh and service is always good. You should definitely order their white truffle garlic bread and cacio e pepe arancini! The spicy rigatoni vodka is also incredible, but so are all their other options. Their $40 bottle and board happy hour is worth a try too! read more

Okay coming here I was uncertain at first because it is such a popularized chain but boy was I wrong. From ambiance to service to food, this place didn't hit, it slapped me in all notes. The ambience is upscale family Italian when you walk in. It's elegant, the lighting is perfect, and both the interior and exterior is absolutely beautiful. Getting into the service, my friend and I noted how well of a team everyone was who worked together. The bartender was helping out other tables and the staff were effortlessly working (and it was a busy night). Our server Tony was amazing. He really focused on providing us a guest experience. I appreciate how, when I ordered the spicy rigatoni he asked me my spice tolerance. I said I can handle a little spice and he said if it was too much to let him know. Super kind Now onto food. White truffle bread- so seeing this for like 17 dollars I was nervous... but it was so worth it. The truffle oil is prominent but it was the right amount where it didn't overpower any other elements of the dish. The cheese with it was also the perfect addition and the cold cheese contrasted well with the warm bread. For entrees, I got the spicy vodka rigatoni pasta. One thing to note is that all their pasta is made in house and it shows. The pasta itself tasted really good. The sauce tho wasn't my favorite, it was a little boring and wasn't mixed well (all my pancetta and spice was on one side). However my friend really liked her squid ink pasta. She said her sauce was a littler watery but she got adequate shrimp with it that was cooked well. For dessert, we got the butter cake. I never to be impressed by the concept of a cake of butter but it might be my favorite dessert thus far in DC. The ice cream on top was so tasty and the cake itself was rich and decadent. We had North Italia for dinner while we were visiting Washington DC and it was phenomenal! We made reservations, which I would highly recommend you do if you plan on visiting because it can get very busy, but they were able to seat us right away at our scheduled time. The service was excellent. To start we had the white truffle garlic bread. It was some of the best bread I have had! It was light, fresh and had a lot of flavor. For my entree I had the spicy rigatoni. It was a little bit spicy but nothing over the top to make your nose run. I really enjoyed it. The meat in the dish tasted fresh and had such good flavor. My boyfriend had a Caesar salad with the bolognese pasta. I tried it as well and also really liked it. It was rich in flavor and thick. Unfortunately we didn't have any room for dessert. The service was timely. We had Michael T. as our server and he was very friendly! The ambiance was so cozy with dim lighting with a beautiful modern flare. First time here and it was 4 adults and two children, ordered a good amount of food so I think I have a good idea of the quality. Our server was super nice and attentive. We started with the shrimp scampi, zucchini chips, and beef carpaccio. The shrimp was my favorite as it was riddled with delicious garlic. For dinner I had the black ink pasta. I was disappointed with the amount of shrimp in the dish, it's had 2-3 and some calamari rings. The sauce was good but the dish came out almost cold and that was also disappointing. I just took it togo and warmed it up in my hotel. Hubby had the bolognese and it was very good. Someone else had the chicken parm and I thought the chicken was too thin but also good. It does not say "Cheesecake Factory" anywhere, but it turns out that this restaurant is very much under the corporate control of a huge conglomerate by that name. As is the general shtick of these places, you have a very expensive location, very expensively upgraded interior, and a kitchen where no one has the skill to do much better than a bowl of ramen. If you want to eat the super-processed "food" products offered by a corporate conglomerate restaurant, why spend $150 just for the ambiance? Eat at McDonald's and you'll eat better and much cheaper. This restaurant is nothing but $5 food being sold at $50 prices. read more

I really dig this spot. I happened upon it a last year and have been back a couple of time since then. We are always greeted warmly by the staff and the food and drinks are consistently good. I really like sitting in the bar area because it is great for people watching and to catch a cool vibe. The vibe in this place is super chill, drinks strong and tasty, nice wine list and the food and desserts are ACE! Popped in for a last minute reservation during restaurant week and from the menu we ordered the burrata salad, the pancetta and tiramisu. The burrata salad was really great and the sweet potatoes added a nice starchiness. The pancetta with the fennel was definitely my favorite, even if over-peppered. The tiramisu was good as well. Made a last minute dinner reservation here and quite frankly, I wasn't disappointed. I was the first to arrive out of all my guests and they still sat me, quite promptly. Our gracious waiter DJ was such a gem. He was kind, warmly social, and overall provided top tier service. He didn't mind chatting me up about the menu, sharing his favorites and recommendations, while I waited for my friends that were tardy for the portyyyyy. Now everything on the dinner menu sounds absolutely delicious, even the cocktail choices. Every dish was flavorful, packing a savory delicious punch. I had the chicken parm and every bite was to die for! From the breading to the creamy pasta sauce, an incredible combo well done. We only had 2 complaints and the first was that the truffle bread was over cooked and that one of the pasta dishes (not pictured) pasta was undercooked. Besides that, no other complaints whatsoever. We started off with some nonalcoholic margaritas, as recommended by our server, but I was a bit disappointed when it ended up just being some sort of lemonade drink with orange wedges in them. For our main entrees, I ordered the house specialty, bolognese, while my friends ordered the chicken pesto, squid ink tonnarelli, and eggplant parmesan. We had the hazelnut torta and seasonal butter cake for dessert, which were both plated beautifully. The hazelnut torta was a bit too sweet for my liking, but the butter cake was simplify delightful--the flavors of the blueberry jam, fresh cream, and the fluffiness of the cake meshed incredibly well together. It took some time for our drinks to come and for our server to ask about any appetizers. Sometimes we had to ask a couple times for more water or for some of the soda that was ordered as well. When they were bringing out the food, it kind of all came out at different times so it was a little awkward. The first round came out and we probably waited around 7-10 minutes for a couple more dishes and another 5 minutes for the rest The squid ink tonnareli was decent, had a good kick to it. The Braised short Rib overall was underwhelming. The short Rib itself was delicious but ask the vegetables were overcooked and I don't think it was really worth the price. Recently came here with a large group (15 people) to celebrate a special occasion and we were all really impressed by the food and service. Initially, the host led us to a table that did not have enough seats, but they immediately added an additional table/chairs. Our waitress, Rachel, was really great and patient with everyone. In terms of apps, highly recommend the arancini, the chef's boards, and the grilled bread with olive oil. The restaurant was very accommodating of any modifications to the dishes, which was really great to accommodate everyone's preferences and dietary restrictions. Some of our favorite dishes were the pesto chicken pasta, hot honey pizza, and branzino. Decent food, but I do not recommend this restuarant. Our server was nice, but my overall experience here was not the greatest. When my boyfriend and I first walked in, the hostess ignored us and kept talking to her coworker. We stood there for bit before another server had to come ask if we've been helped. Things seemed disorganized amongst the staff, like there was no consensus. Service was a bit slow and confusing. Our server was quite attentive, though. If the food was amazing, it would've made up for the awkward start. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The "crispy calamari" was not really crispy at all, as the breading kept falling off the calamari. The whole dish was bland, and I could barely taste the lemon vinaigrette on the arugula/calamari. A dipping sauce would've been nice. Would not recommend this appetizer. The bologenese was pretty good. A bit too sour for my taste, but meaty and flavorful. I liked the squid ink mafaldine, more. It had a nice vodka sauce, which was on the saltier side, but still tasty. I wish they put in more shrimp/calamari. Both pastas had nice textures and seemed fresh. Ambiance/interior design was trendy and upscale, but their tables, at least where we sat, weren't spaced well, so I felt like I was going to bump elbows with the tables next to us. Not comfy. The food and drinks were amazing. Prices were what you'd expect. The service was not the best -- our waitress didn't check on us at all and it took 30 minutes to get the check after eating. Seasoned and full bodied. Not bland at all. This is a contender and a new go-to for Italian at a reasonable price. The only complaint was the bathroom was dirty. Great Italian spot in the Foggy Bottom area! My coworkers and I had a team dinner here recently as everyone loved it! We had a fairly decent size group, about 10 people or so. The layout of the place is nice and spacious. The decor is simple and sophisticated. The tables aren't close together so if that's a concern you'll be fine. We started off with a variety of different cocktails and wines. The new Italian spritz was a favorite. For our appetizers we had the prosciutto bruschetta, crispy calamari, white truffle garlic bread, and Italian meatballs. The meatballs were by far the favorite but everything was good. We ordered two of each since we had a larger group, but I think we could've started off with one of everything and then ordered more because we didn't eat it all. Next up was the main course and almost everyone ordered a pasta dish. One coworker said the bolognese was great. The squid ink mafaldine was good. I wish the sauce was a bit thicker. The scallops were well received and the hanger steak tagliata was pretty decent. To close things out we had the bombolini, tiramisu, and the gelato of the day which I think was banana flavored. The bombolini was amazing! The donuts melted in my mouth. They reminded me of beignets. I had to stop myself from eating more. Our waitress was nice and was helpful in sharing her favorite dishes as we asked questions. I'd definitely recommend this place for any outing. Stopped here in search of some Italian food while in town for the night. Located within walking distance from our hotel, I can't speak to parking or where any is located, but - you may opt to Uber if you are in town. We had reservations for 8pm and were sat immediately upon entry. It reminded me of a bohemian style Italian place - open kitchen, clean surfaces, waiters in denim, and wood accents. We were sat near the kitchen which allowed me to look in throughout the meal and people watch. We started with a couple mixed drinks - I chose the Ducale which is a whiskey mixed drink with cherry accent flavors. It was exceptionally good. So much so - I had two which is somewhat rare for me when ordering a menu cocktail. Really liked it and would recommend it. As an appetizer we went rogue and ordered a pizza since they are smaller and the appetizers didn't particularly stand out. The margherita pizza was good - crust was good, sauce had a little zing to it and the cheese was good. For my entree I got the chicken Parmesan which comes with rigatoni and cream sauce which I wasn't expecting but was a great balance that worked. The breading on the chicken was kind of something that reminded me of chicken fried steak - but wasn't bad. As dessert I was between the hazelnut torte and the Italian creme cake. I let the waiter talk me into the hazelnut torte though deep down I wanted the other. He seemed more into the hazelnut than me so I didn't want to let him down. I regretted it - though I wouldn't say it was bad - just didn't hit the spot for me.
