I had a great experience with them! My tire was leaking through the valve, and they fixed it up and charged me exactly as I expected. I also asked them to check if I had locked lugnuts, and they were super sweet and changed them out for me!! I have no idea where the key is, so that was a massive relief. For the work you'll be charged at Ford, Subaru, and such I've saved Thousands of Dollars for simple and serious problems. I've sent friends, and co-workers there and all have been satisfied. I have used the fancy shop on South Main for the past 9 years, but they quoted me over $1200 for replacing a timing belt and fixing an oil leak. North Main Auto did it for less than half that amount and replaced some seals for $14 while they were at it to fix the leak. The car is running well. Don't expect anything fancy; the office is bare bones. They seem honest and highly competent. No, they do not have two secretaries in front, two managers who oversee everything, and a shuttle van with a driver, but imagine how much overhead these extra services add to your bill. read more

After a few minutes this morning of quickly looking through reviews online for "tire" services and reading through the two positive reviews written (especially since it seemed like a no-nonsense place), I called North Main Auto Repair at 07:45 am. Described to them that one of my tires seemed to be faulty. It had gone flat three weeks prior, I'd filled it, but it seemed to have gone flat again. Asked them how long it'd take to complete (Mari, below, had said it only took 15 minutes), and they quoted me about 15 minutes. I asked if they'd be busy and they said they'd still be done within 15 - 20 minutes. Brought my car in around 08:40, was out of there by 08:57am. Cost $12. Location was easily missable, but there is a sign. Very professional. Very quick service. They won't sugar-coat or try to be sweet with you to get your business. If you are looking for "frills" (ie: complimentary coffee, etc.) they don't have that. But then, who really needs that when you're in and out so quickly. There's the basic: a tv, some chairs, a heater and a room. Basically, in, out, get on with your life. Definitely will recommend and will come back here for further car maintenance issues. read more

You would think that going out of town for a couple days would be a good time to get a car repaired. They refused to work on it till I got back in town and actually needed the car. When I called, the very polite lady on the phone told me she would get back to me that afternoon. 2 days went by. I finally called back and told them I would come get it. I don't understand. I had two flat tires randomly at the same time and I frantically gave these guys a call and they offered to come help me pump my tire up wherever I was and help me bring my car to their shop so that they could patch up the holes. Everything went so smoothly and they were so helpful and kind! Prices were also so much cheaper than expected, i left the place wanting to tip but didn't have any cash! 10/10 recommend. read more

Took to another place for second opinion and nothing wrong with headlights! Needed brake pads because of a caliber but that was never mentioned! This is the best car service you can find. Mike is a professional with honest prices and great, dedicated service. My power steering system failed, and as a student with little car knowledge and money to handle this, I was panicking. Mike helped me out so much, was easy to talk to and incredibly friendly. When my car was first fixed, we kept finding problems and my car was in the shop for a week, but it was not anyone's fault-- Mike kept me updated every day and even offered to knock my price down. When we got sick of waiting on the dealership for a new part, Mike hand-crafted the part himself to hold me over while we waited! So I broke down in Blacksburg an hour away from where I was from and an hour away from where I was going these people closed in 10 minutes before I got there they stayed an hour and a half class closing to help me get back on the road because I had no way to get home or to get where I was going no I couldn't make it to where I was going but these people made sure I made it home safe text me my whole way home just to make sure I made it home safe no matter where you're at you need to come to these people. read more

Fine for bodywork, tires, simple stuff. Avoid for mechanical work. Tested my engine and told me it was ready to fail on me at any moment and needed to be replaced to the tune of $4000 or so. I got a second opinion who told me the engine was fine. I drove the car across the country six times without replacing the engine and it was fine. read more

Make sure you are reading the suppressed reviews link at the bottom of the page, because they sound real to me. I went to these guys a couple of times. The first two times the prices were low, but the quality of customer service was near zero. They promised to call when it was ready, and never did - when I finally called back they said it was ready. Well, not a big deal. Then it turned out they had broken off the ABS sensor while replacing the wheel bearing, and told me it would be fine to drive - the light was just on. After that though, I asked them to order two other parts. I brought my car in and they took it apart, only to find that one of the two parts they'd ordered was the wrong thing - so they put the car back together without replacing anything. They said they would order the correct part. My car later died in the middle of the road and I had it towed back to the shop - it sat there for two and a half days (while I called them periodically and got answers like "no, we haven't taken a look at it yet, but it should be ready later today") before they finally told me they had looked at it and hadn't been able to figure out what the problem was and it was now sitting and waiting on those two parts (which I had asked to be replaced a month earlier). They had not told me they had checked it the day before, and I was without transportation for several days. After that I took the car to the dealership and they had my engine problem diagnosed and fixed by the end of the day - and they had a shuttle for transportation. I had to spend a lot of time and money after that trying to get North Main Auto's work undone / done in the first place by the dealership. I would have spent less money and far, far less time and trouble just taking it to the dealership to begin with. I dealt entirely with the older man at the shop - the younger manager may be more on the ball. read more

I was staying with my son at the Powhatan Scout Reservation when I had to have my truck towed to their shop on a Friday afternoon. I did that based on the recommendation of a camp councilor who had used them before and also since Les assured me they could work on it (we were due back to Leesburg on Saturday). The entire staff was very competent and personable. They fixed the problem in a timely manner and charged an extremely reasonable rate for the work involved. read more

In May 2013 I received a new battery from North Main for my Jeep Cherokee. Recently, just 3 months later, that battery died while I was on a business trip. The mechanic who repaired my car at another shop in Lynchburg said that the battery that had been installed was the wrong battery for my car. Additionally, the hold down kit had not been reinstalled in my car, and worn out battery clamps were used and poorly connected with screws. In short, the work I had done May 14th was of poor quality and responsible for my recent car problems. I sent North Main Auto a letter along with receipts from when they replaced my battery as well as from the shop Lynchburg, stating why my battery had failed 3 months after being installed. I have yet to hear from them, offering any sort of compensation for their poor work. read more

These guys don't know what they're doing. My daughter had to bring her car back to them 2 times for the exact same symptom, they didn't want to spend any time on it, but do the quickest fix possible. They charged me almost $700 the first time to replace a water pump, etc. for an overheating issue. Three weeks later when she was home from college, the car had the same symptom. We had the thermostat replaced, but it continued to have intermittent issues. In May she brought the car back and they bled the system at no charge. She brought the car back in July with the exact same symptom the original visit in November, and they refused to even offer a discount on the work despite the repeated visits. They don't bother to call you when the car is ready or when they have (tried to) diagnose it, it can sit there for hours while they wait for you to call them. They don't give a damn, and I would not even take my car to them for an oil change. Go somewhere else. read more
