NSL had boats available so we went ahead and booked with them, I did not see their reviews until after I booked and I'm not going to lie I became a little worried. We went to the Gray's hook, line, and dine spot, just west of their main location for lunch on Saturday. There was a dock to park the jet skis and no one else was there, the guy preparing the food was helpful in answering our questions about the menu. Lovely views of the lake from the seating area. All very rustic, but right by the lake, which is the main attraction. We got the loaded quesadillas, which I thought were just fantastic. Unfortunately, they had no grease so all the french fry options were off the table and they were out of chicken... I've never dealt with such terrible customer service in my life. The owner Loren is a crook and steals your money. Around 3 years ago, I rented a waverunner. But due to an unfortunate family emergency, I was unable to go at the time I scheduled. So I was given a rain check which I was told never expires. I was back in Big Bear last weekend and decided to try to use it then. They don't let you schedule rain checks on the weekend, so I scheduled it for a Monday. Unfortunately, as it got closer to my trip, the weather showed that there might be rain and thunderstorms that day. After a lot of back and forth, a manager finally agreed to schedule me for Saturday. However, on Saturday, the owner Loren called me and told me his employee made a mistake and shouldn't have scheduled me on a Saturday. He was extremely rude and condescending, blaming me for trying to book on "the busiest day of the week" and saying things like he "can't control the weather" and that he doesn't give anyone's money back for anything including family emergencies. According to him, the reason he called was because he didn't want me to get upset if there was a wait to ride a waverunner. He basically said he'd be prioritizing other guests over me even though I had an appointment and that scheduling me would cause his business to lose money... even though I paid for a service I never received, and they even made me pay an additional $7 for booking again this year because the price has increased since my initial booking 3 years ago. I ultimately decided it wasn't worth the risk to waste my time during my vacation to show up and end up being turned away because of the prioritization of other guests who didn't pre-schedule. Additionally, I would've had to spend another $500 on a deposit that I didn't trust to get back. I texted the manager and even talked to another employee on the phone saying I would not be there that day and would be taking my business elsewhere. Yet, Loren called again closer to my scheduled time saying he'd see me soon, and I even got an email after asking to rate my experience on the waverunner when I never even showed up! I think Loren is trying to make it look like I went even though I didn't. His business practices are extremely shady. Loren acts like he owns the only marina in Big Bear Lake and this is absolutely not the case. I wasted $250 at this place for a waverunner I never even rode and won't be getting my money back. Yet, I easily booked at Big Bear Marina the same day for only $190!! Go to Big Bear Marina instead!!! The employees are super friendly and booking is so easy. Plus it's way cheaper than this crappy little place Loren owns. Loren said he was fine with not giving me my rain check and me giving him a bad review. So here you go Loren!! read more

Worst experience ever! After 5 years of seeing the 4th of July fireworks show on the lake we were cursed to have rented a boat for these low life's. We paid for the 12 person premium pontoon boat and were given the 8 people POS junk they call hurricane because it is so badly damaged... and when we tried to dispute the so call manager Connor he talked down to me and my family. So we asked for a refund and we're told to take it or leave it. Then after complaining about it to the company were attacked with lies about us threatening them when they made our children cry. My wife rented the 12 person pontoon for $1,000 bucks and when we got there this man child gave us their towing 6-8 person pontoon titled hurricane because it was so badly worn out. We came up last weekend and rented a fishing pontoon. I was enjoying our family time until we returned back to the dock. I wish we would have read the reviews first before renting... The office staff seemed stressed and busy. Service was so-so. The safety video was probably from the 80s? We later got to know Norma who was just a middle man and as professional as she could be. Before we left I guess my husband was told to take a photo of the prop before we left (from the drivers seat) which we later learned was not a good view/angle if there are already damages to it. There are faded signs at the marina shack to ask take photos. TAKE TONS OF PHOTOS! Because they will try to say you damaged the boat upon returning. While other boats were not looked at twice like ours was. There seemed to be conflict or a disagreement with some thing between the staff when we got on but the guy just brushed them off. I wonder now if we weren't supposed to even rent that one. The gauges were broken and the life vests for my kids were stamped with a date of 1989!! And then another stamped of "passed" in 1993. Let's just go with the 10 year lifetime date for fun. We returned and after we raised the prop the staff started acting that there was an issue and we had no clue what was going on. We waited while they looked at the prop and there was fishing line in it. That they took off and dropped back in the water right there. Finally after about 20 minutes they say they need to call the owner. We still don't know why, and they say it's because the prop is bent. We didn't hit any thing at all. They said we could leave and call us later. But we opted to wait. One employee said it was "silver" when we left but was worse when we returned. He was really a jerk the whole time to even the other staff, blaming us. There were three staff members who were nice and professional- I didn't get their names- a guy with an accent was friendly and seemed to be bothered by the other punk, a young female at the dock. I saw another couple going out for a rental to see if they were going to use our boat. I asked him if the boat keeps going out. And his only answer was that it's the renters responsibility to take photos. After the manager called the owner it was finally determined we would not be charged $100 for the prop. The manager on site seemed understanding and mature verses everyone else running the show. As we had a $250 deposit on hold for damages on the rental. Rented a fishing pontoon. What I want to give props to this business is going above and beyond when it wasn't expected. While off loading our stuff my son's phone fell out of his pocket into the water. We thought was just lost. We got a call 2 hours later from the staff letting us know that they had retrieved it from the lake for us. Above and beyond for sure. Rented a pontoon for 4th of July fireworks show. The pontoon we got was soo dirty, seats torn w/cushion exposed, wood boards exposed, just so aged looking. It really looked like the whole boat sank and they just brought it back up from under the waters and it just dried up. Stained seating and everywhere stained. The gauges and steering wheel had missing parts. I guess we're lucky our engine didn't break down on us (like other reviews). I would NEVER rent here again. Only reason was, the other place we like (Big Bear Marina) was sold out for 4th of July. Thats the only reason, now I know why they weren't sold out - their pontoons SUCK! On another note- their staff tending to the pontoons were super cool and helpful. Kudos guys! The staff in the office - they can use some improvement; the younger ones seemed to have better customer service skills than the big lady behind the counter. Maybe have a system when people walk in, that you should help people in the order they come, not pick and choose who you wanna help (directed to the big lady / the only older big lady there). read more

We had a horrible experience here a few weeks back when we were on our family trip to Big Bear. The sad part was, we have had good experiences here in the past when renting jet skis and pontoon boats dealing with the son of the owner (which we didn't even know was the son at that time) and then this time we delt with the owner Lauren and he was a horror to deal with!! Our rental was not ready when we got there and the poor girls at the office were so confused as we ordered a premium 3 seater jet ski and paid for a premium 3 seater jet ski to only be told by the girls there that they didn't even have any of the premium jet skis any morel. after waiting around for an hour past our time we were told to be there 15-20 minutes early, the girls finally were able to get the owner on the phone to get to the bottom of it after calling him multiple times to no avail, after speaking with the owner he agreed to give us some extra time on the ski to make up for it which we were good with as he was sending someone over with our jet ski across the lake. 15 minutes later a gentleman came up with a new premium jet ski that we ordered. We then had to wait another 15 minutes for them to put stickers on the ski as they just grabbed and brought it over. The guy that brought it across the lake, later I found out was Laurens son. when he pulled up on the ski him and I started chatting, he was very professional and apologetic for the issues and for all of us and the kids having to wait around for so long. He then said, "you know what, I have another ski coming across the lake right now that I am going to go ahead and throw in for you guys to use to make up for all the BS we had to deal with," We were all very happy and thankful for him doing this for us and felt it was a great way to turn our poor experience into a better one by going above and beyond to make up for it!! Well, that excitement was short lived, when Lauren (the owner) showed up after we were out on both skis for about 20 minutes. When we came back in to swap riders he pulled me to the side and told me he was not letting us take both skis out anymore and as we only paid for 1 ski, that was all we were going to get access to. When I tried to explain to him what transpired and that his son offered it up to make up for the issues, he replied to me with these words, "I don't care what he told you, I am telling you now that my son works for me and you and I made a deal for some extra time and now you are taking advantage of us by using 2 skis when you only paid for 1" after going back and forth with this guy for 20 minutes while he was throwing a little temper tantrum about how he feels like I was taking advantage of the situation, his son chimed in agreeing with us and telling his Dad that he offered it to make it up to a repeat customer and we should honor it. Lauren basically told him to shut up and embarrassed him in front of everyone. (very professional and demeaning to your poor son that was only doing the RIGHT thing) after another 10 minutes arguing with this guy he threw a fit and yelled. "f*ck it, take them both out then, I hope you feel good about taking advantage of us" I really had to bite my tongue here as we had all 4 of our very young children present during this interaction. I just looked at him while shaking my head in complete disgust and declined to take the other ski out, I made sure to convey how horrible he was for doing what he was doing and for treating his son the way he was for doing the right thing and then embarrassing him in front of the entire group and all the girls that work in the office. (SHAME ON YOU LAUREN!!!) The best thing the owner can do for this business is just get out of the way and pass it to his son ASAP, He was amazing to deal with the first few times I have dealt with him in the past with no hiccups and knows how to talk to people and treat customers! He definitely got his traits from Mom as Lauren clearly showed his true colors and that was not how the son was acting at all! Our experience with this place was very disappointing due to the lack of organization and communication from the young staff there. We understand that it was a busy 4th of July weekend and because of that we didn't mind that they pushed our reservation back 30 minutes. We expressed to the female staff member that we wouldn't mind the time change as long as we were still able to get our full 3 hours, she confirmed that she spoke to a manager and he confirmed that that wouldn't be a problem which of course didn't happen. We had multiple staffers come up to our boat 30 minutes prior to our return time asking for for the name of the reservation, then to check the name on the boat, then to ask if we might be on the wrong boat because somehow they didn't have all the information on their end ...mind you we were in the area because we wanted to make sure we return the boat on time to avoid any inconvenience for the staff or their guest! It was frustrating and unprofessional specially after being told our full time would be honored. We left our complaint for the manager David and we were told he would reach out to us within 24 hours! This was yesterday at 5 pm it is now the next day almost 7:40pm and we have yet to hear from them. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCE. read more

This review is for the tiki boat that launches out of north shore harbor. my girlfriend had booked the 11 o'clock charter for my birthday and it was amazing. Captain Lily was awesome and the bartender Lyndsay made amazing cocktails! I had three dark and stormy's and they were made to perfection. my girlfriend had a Paloma and a mai tai. They also have traditional cocktails If you prefer. our other friend had an old-fashioned and he said it was excellent. They have a list of cocktails. They are around $12 each. The tour was an hour and a half and did a circle around the south lake to the dam to papoose Bay and then back to the landing. There's blue speaker and they play a ton of island music(think jimmy buffet) to get you in the mood. They have a hammock. They have 15 bar seats and there's a little bit of space in case you wanted to dance - you could easily create a dance floor. There's also a bathroom on the boat, which is really nice as you're drinking cocktails. Worth every penny and highly recommend it. read more

Fraudulent Business Practice! I was charged $183.33 on July 3rd for a one hour rental of a waverunner, which I was prohibited from utilizing by the manager, Lindsay, at North Shore Landing. I personally went into the office to inquire about renting a waverunner on 4th of July weekend. I was helped by Norma. She informed me that there was a jet ski available at 5:00 pm on the 4th. I explained to her that it was by request of my 13 year old son, who would be joining me. I specifically told her that timing would be hard because our family would be out on our boat during the day. I asked her if my husband could pull up to the dock and drop us off to avoid the holiday parking situation. She said "No Problem, be here by 4:45." She then told me I would have to pay in advance and I handed her my credit card. She took my email and phone number and said I would be getting liability waiver by email. I returned the waiver and we drove our boat up to the dock at 4:40 pm. That is when I was told by a woman on the dock that I would be prohibited from using the jet ski since "I knew someone on the lake." I went inside the office and was told there is a provision, of which I was never told or provided, that I acknowledge that I don't know anyone on the lake. Once Lindsay told me that, I pointed to Norma and informed Lindsay that I had specifically asked Norma if my husband and rest of my family could drop us off by pulling our boat up to the dock. Norma acknowledged that she did tell me that. I proceeded to tell Lindsay that we planned our entire day around this and that while my son and I were on our jet ski, my family would simply return our boat to our slip at Captain John's Marina, retrieve our car and meet us in the parking lot when we were done. We would not be on the lake at the same time. Because of our tight timing for holiday dinner, this was the only way we could achieve this experience. This is why I specifically asked Norma the day before if it was allowed. Nonetheless, Lindsay informed me that I could not go out unless my husband, other children and dog sat in the boat on the dock for the entire hour. I explained to her that was not only impractical in that heat, but impossible on our timeline and that I paid for the jet ski after inquiring about the arrangement. She told me I would have to leave and refused to tell me her name. She refused to give me a refund or provide or offer me any other consideration. Eventually, she told me her name was Lindsay and that I'd have to email the owner to complain. I have done so, with no response and no refund. Given the line and the number of folks on the dock I think they oversold their jet skis and just were looking to cancel people, regardless, they should refund my money. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE this place has no accommodation to customers. A month ago we ordered a boat for the whole day(11-7pm) on the 5th of July which was confirmed on the email. Mind you we pre paid $900 for the reservation. We called multiple times in the morning and no response was given. As we arrive Judy with a side of attitude gave us "guidance" and made my party of 7 with a dog, sign waivers just to tell us we will only have the boat til 2 pm. Due to her booking our pontoon for another party. Not only did they already take $900 they asked for an additional $250 for a deposit on top of it. She also failed to mention that the boat she could potentially put us on doesn't allow dogs. My family rented a jet ski from North Shore, and we have been coming here for years. There are several reasons why I wouldn't recommend North Shore to people who want to rent jet skis or pontoon boats. First, we called to check availability for jet skis on the day we went in. We were informed to rent online because "it's easier," so that's exactly what we did. When we arrived, we discovered the online cost is $50 more than in person. They refused to refund our costs. Second, they didn't fill up our jet ski's gas tank prior to our rental. About 10 minutes into riding, we needed to bring our jet ski back to the dock to refill the gas tank. This took 10 minutes. 30 minutes later, the gas tank was empty again, and we have to re-dock and refill AGAIN. Lastly, when we approached the staff to express our frustrations, the manager was nowhere to be found. We were informed that the manager was not in today and could not be contacted. Overall, super disappointing experience, and we will be renting elsewhere in the future. read more

Do not go to this place unless you like to get ripped off, me and my family wanted a nice boat ride, as we were out in the lake a wave hit our boat and got the deck wet, the crew and manager said there is no water allowed to touch the deck, they kept our security deposit of $250 plus the $270 for two hours, They accused us of jumping in the lake and breaking rules. (Complete accusation & unprofessional) Total fees = $530.00 for two hours If your boat accidentally gets wet it's considered damage to them. Had a great time on our pontoon boat this past Saturday. Our adult children said it was the highlight of our trip to my family's cabin in Big Bear. We rented a cruising pontoon about a week before we headed up and made the reservation for 10:30am for 6 people. Little did we know the current heat wave would also be up in the mountains. Saturday morning the power was out all across Big Bear and we arrived right at our reservation time instead of early due to it taking 4 twenty somethings waaaay to long to get ready without power. The parking lot was packed and we got the last 2 parking spots. The staff was helping many large groups inside and we had to wait a bit. No big deal as we knew with the heat everyone would like to be out on the lake on this gorgeous day, and the woman who checked us in was very nice and attentive. Once checked in we were told we had been upgraded to a luxury pontoon due to so many bookings that day and no cruising pontoons available at our check-in time! North Shore Landing for the win! We went down to the dock and met the sweetest young woman working there. She had dark hair and an accent, but I didn't catch her name. She was awesome and funny and the whole family got a kick out of her. She is a superstar and was working her tail off! The pontoon was very nice and clean. Had to use a towel to get some spiderwebs off that had shown up in some different parts on the pontoon, but we were first in the boat that day and I know it is the mountains and the spiders show up every night and make some webs. No big deal and easily rectified. We got underway all in all about 20 minutes after our scheduled time and had a great time for the almost 4 hours we were on the lake! Made many laps around the lake, ate lunch, and had some drinks on the boat. Bummer the stereo and speakers did not work, nor the onboard sink, but we brought our own speaker and still were able to jam out. Everyone loved it and when we came back and the staff were very helpful with my terrible first parking attempt (been many years since I drove a boat) and then helped us all off and our items and took a great picture of all of us. My family had the best time renting out a boat from North Shore Landing over the 4th of July weekend! Our boat was not available when it was our turn so they gave us a free upgrade to the luxury boat. The Bluetooth speaker was amazing on the Black Pearl luxury boat and our party of 6 had so much space to explore in the front and back of the boat. We rented a table for our food and it was well worth it. In my opinion, this company has the best dock location of the whole lake, close to the beautiful tall pine trees and the perfect location to watch the sunset. Ivan was very helpful at the dock and the ladies at the desk were also great. Some things to note: the bathroom at the office was a port-a-potee. Rented a fishing pontoon over the 4th weekend Of course I did it last minute and was able to get a boat later in the afternoon. Which was better because it was cooler outside. The folks at the rental spot were nice. I signed the waivers online to save time. Watched their vintage instructional video and the staff was pretty friendly. They put a 250 hold on ur card in addition to your rental. Understandable considering other people operating boats didn't seem to know how. And boat parts and repair isn't cheap!! Had to wait a bit for the dock crew to bring up the boats because they were busy dealing with returns and new people going out. The boat I got was older and well used. Not new by any means but did the trick for going out and fishing for a bit. Returned it with no problems because I was careful not to go near rocks or shallow water. The prices seemed fair. 220 for 2 hours. The rent fishing pontoons but don't have any fishing gear for sale or rent. I'm sure they would make a bunch of money having small fishing supplies available for purchase (wink wink) nearest place was a liquor store up the road in Fawnskin. I needed weights and bobbers and that little store had plenty of stuff. The time you pay, watch your video and sign waivers and wait to board your boat cuts into your rental time. Great place for rentals! We rented a pontoon boat during the fourth of July weekend and had an awesome experience. I booked over the phone and the process was super easy. Plenty of parking on site. Lots of friendly staff in the office who explained the rules of the lake. This was my first time driving a boat so I was a little nervous, but the dock crew explained it all so clearly and made me feel more comfortable. Even though the website tells you to get there 45 before your scheduled time, it only took us about 15 minutes to complete the waivers and watch a short video on the boating instructions. Worst pontoon renting experience on the Lake. Tons of paperwork and a big deposit for a POS boat. Got their boat out on the lake and the engine light came on, then we ended up stranded, moored to a buoy, and called the number they gave us for emergencies. Their phone was busy for three hours straight, we called every 10 or 15minutes. We finally got through on their 'reservation' line and were told to sit tight, that a rescue boat would come out to us. They did and the guys on the rescue boat were real cool, so I'm giving them one extra star for the rescue guys. The place is a total racket otherwise. We rented two jet skis in advance online; It was a piece of cake. On arrival, the friendly staff had us complete some easy paperwork, watch a video, and give us the lowdown on our jet skis. Then we motored out into the 75' deep Big Bear Lake before we zipped and zoomed (safely mind you) around this beautiful lake. It was really fun! As many others have stated, I wish I had read the reviews prior to booking. Although we did purchase the cancellation insurance just in case, they still managed to keep our money. $415 plus the cancellation fee that proved pointless. I called to cancel due to the weather and warned the gentleman on the phone DO NOT send the refund to the account I used to book because it had since been closed months prior. He told me he would have a manager call but no one ever called and the following day I get an email that they had processed the refund. So I call them and ask them to take down my new account info to send me the refund but the woman, Lindsay, refuses to believe or admit (not sure if she really is just that dull) that the money they originally sent to the closed account was sent straight back to them as you cannot send funds to a closed account. I called this place for 7 days straight trying to get anyone to help me, even had a Wells Fargo customer service guy on a 3-way call and she refused to help. In her final words "I can ask the owner to call his bank but I can't promise you he will because he's so busy". HA! This place is joke, the customer service will raise your blood pressure, and just straight up a scam after all! read more

Reading these negative reviews has me incredibly upset and confused. I've been going here to rent boats for the past 4 years and have never had a problem. If there was ever an issue, they accommodated and made sure I still had a great experience. The boats run perfectly and are clean. They're very well priced - honestly, I am perplexed by these reviews! This is a crazy time in the world and instead of being kind and patient with one another, especially a company trying to run a business during a global pandemic, it seems as if people have resorted to entitlement and anger. Rented a boat here last month for a birthday. We decided to do it last minute and everyone else was sold out but they were very accommodating and got us on a boat ASAP! Had a wonderful time even extended an hour. 3 hours total we loved it! Going back for my birthday in a few weeks and just booked another rental. Do not rent from this place!!!! They completely f*cked our group over and basically stole our money. The workers were very nice to us and were super cool but management sucks. We had 2 groups renting 2 boats and we had our personal jet ski. It was against the rules to have a jet ski near the boats and they did not clearly explain this to us. We took the boats out and the person who was on the jet ski passed a beer from one boat to the other. We weren't even out for 5 minutes. They called us back and kicked us off. Not only did they not give our money back (~$1200 for the two boats) but on top of that charged us $300 extra for breaking a rule they didn't explain. They didn't even give us a warning, and weren't kind enough to give us our money back for services we didn't use. I do not recommend this place at all. The boat was dirty and gross anyway. read more

Mid summer. Only place that had boat rentals. We were getting our boat right as the time started (it woulda eaten a little time off our ride) they extended it 15 mins to make up. They were very active in social distancing. Great experience. read more
