I'm sorry to say our experience with Whitehall was not a good one. First, the facility is dated and…read moreis in desperate need of repairs to the walls, and it needs to be painted. I only mention this since it's the first impression you get when you go into the facility. The good: the people working there in skilled nursing, physical, and occupational therapy seem to truly care about the patients. There are two main problems: (1) the food is awful, and (2) they don't have enough staff to support the patients. We were there with an older relative who had a knee replacement. She was not able to, or supposed to get up on her own and even needed help to go into the restroom. While we were there the first day, she hit the call button and we waited so long for someone to come to help her, she almost soiled herself. I had to go out of the room and find someone who could assist. The first night she was there, again she hit the call button for restroom assistance. Again, she waited to the point where she got up herself. Of course, someone one day out of knee surgery shouldn't do that, but it was that or soil herself so she got up. She made it to the restroom before she fell, requiring a trip to the ER. The next day, we talked to one of the therapists who explained they had someone call in sick the day before, requiring the facility to move someone off of our floor to a different one. This left her the only person monitoring the patients on our floor. They couldn't keep up with the patients. The next day, we spoke with a manager who contradicted the aide saying she didn't know why we were told they were short staffed and said they weren't. That was when I realized we couldn't rely on them to take care of her and decided she should be moved back to her assisted living facility and hire skilled nursing and physical therapy. I cannot in good conscience recommend Whitehall. I see similar comments in some of the other reviews, which I should have read before placing her there. I am terribly disappointed and even though moving her and hiring the help ourselves was much more expensive, I couldn't keep her in a facility where I couldn't count on the care. Oh - I gave them three stars rather than one or two because of the quality of the therapists. If they weren't good, my rating would have been much lower. Also, I see enough pictures of the facility posted that I didn't think I needed to take any. The ones posted by reviewers are pretty spot on.

I have had other family members at 2 different facilities in the Northwest suburbs and Symphony far surpassed them. Were there any glitches during the 6 weeks? The answer is yes. But the positives far out weigh any negative experience. All of the managers were exceptional when it came to addressing any issues we expressed. The Administrator to the Director of Nursing to the Social Worker and the head of the Therapy Department and the Reservation Manager were all highly approachable. I would like to mention by name, Lindsay and Andrea, the Occupational Therapist and the Physical Therapist were outstanding. When my family member first arrived at Symphony they could not sit on the side of the bed, could not sit themselves up and could barely walk even with assistance. By the time they left Symphony they were able to walk 200 feet with a walker. My loved one requires dialysis and the fact that Symphony offers dialysis was a Godsend. My loved one had to go to the hospital once per week for chemotherapy and Symphony arranged for transportation. The same for the 10 sessions of radiation they had to have...10 days in a row. If you find yourself in need of a rehab facility I hope you check out and consider Symphony in Buffalo Grove. They, for sure, far exceeded my expectations.

We were treated with kindness, understanding and high quality care. The facility, itself, is warm and inviting, feels like a "bed and breakfast"! His every need was met. The nursing and assistant staff were all wonderful from Lexi, the administrator, Alex, an aide and Jazmin and Maita, Indal and Cosmos, our nurses who were skilled and very pleasant and attentive. The dining room staff was also excellent. The facility is very clean and inviting. The daily craft sessions were entertaining and much appreciated! Dirty walls and dirty floors! Call light will stay on nearly three hours before anyone would respond! The next day after being in this dump. I started having chest pains so I informed my nurse. She took my vitals and said my vitals was good. I requested for her or the CNA to call 911 to take me to the hospital and they both refused! I had to use my cell phone to call 911 the paramedics arrived and took me to the hospital. Once i arrived at the hospital.hospital staff ran several tests and results showed i just had a heart attack! But i had to call for paramedics myself! Since staff at Deerfield crossing refused to. And three weeks later I'm still in the hospital. I called the administrator at Deerfield crossing to let him know his staff the nurse nor the CNA wouldn't call the paramedics for me. He had such a nasty uncaring attitude about the situation. Only thing he said to me ok thanks for letting him know. Never once asked for more details nor apologized! This place like most nursing homes are being bought out by these foreigners. And they're only after one thing is money! They could care less about the residents! So please DO NOT GO TO THIS NASTY UNCARING DUMP OR SEND YOUR LOVE ONES THERE!!!

The place I chose near home did not have a bed available but said she could stay at another one of their facilities, Deerfield Crossing Northbrook, until a bed was available. I didn't have a choice and took their recommendation. We arrived after dark and found the place to be slightly in need of some TLC but it was clean. The next day the staff introduced themselves and all of them, including the housekeepers, were very friendly, kind and knowledgeable. I couldn't ask for better care. Two weeks later a bed was available at my first choice, which was much closer to home. I felt bad that we had to leave.

Since his evaluation, my son has had 3 different therapists, which no one at the practice informed me of until the day of. It was not communicated who would be his ongoing therapist at any point. I had to ask multiple times who his therapist was. After only a few weeks, his therapist went on medical leave for a month (she is still not back), and there was no one for my son to work with while she was gone. You would think an occupational therapy practice would do the bare minimum and assign someone else to work with their child clients while their therapist was gone. I am a therapist myself and cannot believe how unprofessional they are. So disappointed and angry at how my son has been treated there. Do NOT send your child here.

Heather and Katie have been working with my son for years now and they are amazing. They are fun and sweet and work so hard to make things fun, but also challenge him to his max. Teaching a 4 year old with dyspraxia and hyperlexia how to move his body in a natural way is NOT EASY- and they go above and beyond to keep him happy and engaged (even when he's being a total pain!) He views these kind ladies as his friends and will ask me to text them or send them videos when he jumps extra high one day or is able to hop on one leg. Moreover, they go above and beyond advocating for him- providing me resources, doctors to consult for any concerns that I have. They are a wealth of information! My family members have commented, multiple times, how much more naturally my son moves and his physical progress. They helped me get him to eat vegetables on his own, where before he'd literally have a nervous breakdown at the mere thought of touching a piece of broccoli because of his fear of unpleasant textures. He's finally able to start keeping up with other kids on a playground, and can finally jump on a trampoline after years of being unable to. They're helping him live moments of childhood that should be happy for him and not stressful- and for that, I'm beyond thankful. I can confidently say that at Little Steps I know that my son is not just a number in their list of patients- they truly care about him and will advocate for his absolute best interests.
