I knew that it was one of my fan units going bad, but wasn't sure which one. I have an above average knowledge of computers, but have never made any repairs on my own. For that matter, never before have I needed to take a PC in for repairs. I was a little unsure about where to go. Initially, I took my PC to a famous "big box" store that's known for keeping repair staff on site. Considering they wanted to charge me $69.99 just run a diagnostic and tell me what I already knew was wrong, I decided to take my business elsewhere. Upon searching Yelp for a local computer repair business, I found The Computer Dept. After reading their website and getting a feel for their business, I decided to give them a shot. I am so glad that I did! Steve at The Computer Dept determined that my video card's cooling fan was busted. He had a new card ordered, installed and running within twenty-four hours. On top of that, his price blew the "big box" store away! I was able to get my PC completely repaired (and upgraded for that matter) for just a little more than what the "big box" was going to charge for the diagnostic! Who knows what the "big box" would have charged me if I'd actually let them repair it! When at all possible, I try to keep my business local. You should do the same the next time you need your computer repaired. Go to The Computer Dept!

I am not fond of having to write a negative review. Nor am I fond of being ripped off and ignored…read more My iMac with an older operating system was being hacked. Not fun. The Computer Dept said that they would, for $160 plus tax (I double-checked the price with 'P'), wipe the computer clean, save my documents, and that "it would be like a new computer." Upon delivery they charged me $256, adding on travel time and answerIng questions no one had previously mentioned. What they apparently didn't know is that the Apple Apps that I had used to access my documents are no longer available, even though it was the EXACT same operating system and computer I had. So it is basically useless to me. Why didn't they know that? While they offered to try to get those apps, they found only one of three and it has issues. The fonts are messed up, so when it prints, it's all distorted. I have no access to my accounting and spreadsheets data, nor my art. I do appreciate that at least one person was trying, maybe more to get the apps, but they couldn't. Yet one would think they would have either known that or tested it before delivery. I think there's even possibly a way they could've added those apps from another computer at their store. Not sure. Instead, they actually blamed it on my system. I am not happy to say the least, but they became contentious telling me that my computer was already useless when hacked and that I needed to buy a new one!! I thought I was getting one as good as new. If they believe that, they should never have taken my money. When I spoke up they said they were "ending their professional relationship with me." I certainly didn't see it professional to not take responsibility if a service renders a computer's files inaccessible. What I HAVE is a (hopefully) clean computer with Internet (which my iPad has), ability to open, access but not print documents, no access to important accounting or slideshows. What I DO NOT HAVE is money to buy a new computer. Professionals with ethics would say, "We didn't know this was going to be a problem. We take full responsibility and will refund your money since we did not deliver a usable computer as promised." Instead, they're not responding. I don't know if their Macintosh knowledge is not very good, but in any regard, they should have found a way to either deliver a workable "good as new" computer as promised or refund my money. Maybe you were lucky and got what you needed from this company. But if you have problems, apparently you can forget them taking responsibility, responsive customer service, or compensation for their errors. And absolutely without doubt this was their error.

It's obvious this company has a disregard of the safety of the general public and to drive this reckless in a company vehicle is pretty daring especially since their company name is plaster all over. I hope this review will serve as a remind to me mindful of safe driving practices and to keep in mind that everyone wants to arrive at their destination safely.

They were attentive and patient hearing my desires and explaining the intricacies of creating this backup power source. I had done fairly exhaustive research for this project and procured the Firman Portable generator, the prewired Connecticut Electric 10-switch Transfer Subpanel kit including the 10ft generator cable and a transfer box plus an additional adapter pigtail connection cable to the 3-prong generator outlet.. They set to work immediately, got the box and feeder cable hooked up, got the box mounted after some creative coupling and proceeded to connect the appropriate power wires to the subpanel using a template I provided. This 3-man team worked efficiently and minor mounting issues were quickly analyzed and resolved. When I finally warmed up the new Firman 3200/2900 Gen and each transfer switch was enabled, each device or receptacle responded perfectly and we were pleased to have a perfectly designed and implemented 120v powered home as anticipated. So, let the impending storms knock out our power, we're ready. Sacrificing the 240v devices was a no-brainer given the unacceptable alternative - a whole house monster sized Generator, the excessive noise and a checking acct depleted by 5x the expense of this basic power setup. Thank you "The Bobbys" - Dave and Austin from Elrod Electric Services. Good job. Nice polite guys, respectful of our property and our health. This thing has all the bells and whistles of a modern alarm, but as it turns out they're all hidden behind a paywall. My $255/year got me something they called "internet monitoring". I assumed based on the name that meant I could monitor my alarm over the internet or an app. But no, that's basically Carolina Alarm using your internet connection for monitoring. If your alarm goes off they get notified and you get a phone call (it's 2018, not 1996). In order for you to get notified via SMS or push notification they require and extra yearly fee. Also to add all of the cool home automation features the Lyric is capable of handling, another yearly fee! When I realized the limitations of the system I wanted a full refund (I was going to buy a Simplisafe system, and ultimately will when my year is up) but was told I could not be refunded as it was paid for as part of my home closing. Just a lame excuse!! I ultimately paid for it and should be able to get MY money back if I choose not to use the monitoring. So I guess I'm in for $255 for a year, but they won't be earning my business next year. Shame!
