We went again on Saturday. WOW!…read more Started with a Martini for my dining partner and iced tea for me. Both were great. The waiter (Josh, a five-star waiter if ever there was one) really knows how to take care of his customers. He really knows the menu, can explain the dishes along with their components and what makes them unique and paces each course perfectly. He even asked if we were BOTH done before any dishes were removed from the table. Nothing looks worse than one person still eating while the rest of the table has no plates in front of them. We started with the roasted carrot salad. The carrots were perfectly roasted and chilled with and amazing tahini "paste" and radicchio, perfectly dressed with a lemon vinaigrette. OUTSTANDING!!! Seriously, this could have been my entire meal! The tahini paste is great, and I made it once while making a tahini dressing for roasted Brussels sprouts. Tahini naturally gets thick (paste like) when liquid is added. To make the paste, just stop adding liquid to it and stop mixing until it gets smooth again. Seriously, delicious. We both ordered the chicken schnitzel for our entrees. It comes with a really nice side salad consisting of mixed greens, dressed again with a very mild vinaigrette. My only quibble (and it's a really small one) is I would have liked the schnitzel to be a bit thinner. That said, it was perfectly cooked, not at all dry and the thickness is up to the creator of the dish. I don't think there's a "standard" for this (ha, ha - get it!). Great breading and very tasty. The dessert... Again, had to go with the sticky toffee pudding! If this is on the menu, there's no way I'm not going to order it. GOD, it's just a perfect ending to a great meal, well, that along with a pot of French Press coffee. All in all, the meal came to $108.00 excluding the tip. Expensive, but WORTH EVERY PENNY! I spent that much a few weeks ago (maybe more) on a really awful meal/experience at a different place. You'll have to read my old reviews to figure that one out! Anyway, this place treats their employees like they actually appreciate them. They took them on a cruise! Of all the restaurants I used to work at, the best thing I ever received was a shift meal or maybe a cold beer because I was still at the place cooking apps at 1:00 in the morning and the manager wanted to go home but felt bad because I couldn't leave. Thanks for the glass of Miller Lite draft, Mr. Chi-Chi's manager guy! Everyone in the place, from the servers to the hostesses, to the bus folks and the floor manager had smiles and a sense of graciousness and appreciation to each and every customer. Try to find that at any other restaurant in Toledo. The food is top notch, made with very unique recipes and techniques you're not going to find anywhere else. The dining room and restrooms (at least the men's) are clean. I never had to ask for a refill on my iced tea or water. New silverware was brought before each course was served. The old plates were removed from the table after the staff asked if it was OK to do so. Proper training in procedure and etiquette is obvious. Again, just a great meal in every way - 10 out of 10! Can't wait to go back.

We loved the Standard after visit #1. Then, somehow, a year and a half passed before we returned…read more The reason was location, and the reason was atmosphere, but mostly it was atmosphere. After visit #2, I'm not sure there will be a visit #3 anytime soon. The consensus among friends -- confirmed now by our own table -- is that everything is too heavy. The first few bites bring the oohs and the ahhs. By halfway through the plate, the ughs and the oofs begin. The menu reads as thoughtful and dialed in. Our table of four ordered very different entrees -- seafood, steak, pasta, salad -- and somehow every plate arrived at the same destination: rich, savory, dense. No acid. No brightness. And strangely, blue cheese and garlic had crept into every single bite, as if the kitchen could not bear to let a dish leave without them. A meal that should have pleased everyone left most of us with a mild remorse. I felt surprisingly ill for hours afterward -- not because anything was unsafe, not because it wasn't delicious, but because it was simply too much. Too rich. Too savory. The body, it turns out, asks for contrast, and we had not been given any. The service, on the other hand, is STILL outrageously good. Without question some of the best in the region -- better than nearly every higher-end room in town. But the atmosphere is stuffy, the food is one-note, and high quality is not the same thing as good execution. My wife's "medium plus" steak arrived extremely rare. My salmon was undercooked. At this price, that is inexcusable. Still -- the service. The service is something to behold.

I don't normally complain, but we literally saw her four times; when we ordered, when she brought drinks, when she brought food, when she brought our check. Never checked on us to see if we needed drink refills, never asked how the food was, nothing. She did ask how food was after we were done eating and she brought our check. We saw all the other servers multiple times checking on their tables. Two hours for dinner, for two people, is a bit much. there was a couple that walked in directly in front of us. They were done with their meal and gone before we even got food. Another couple was sat about 15 minutes after us, got their food about 10 minutes before us. Another couple came all of 30 minutes after us, got their food about 10 minutes before us. I splurged on a meal, I NEVER spend $50 for a meal. VERY disappointed that I did. My meal was stone cold. My potatoes weee inedibly cold, filet mignon had great flavor, but was stone cold. Server said be careful of the silver plate as it's hot. I could lay my hand on the silver plate and not feel a thing, not even luke warm. At least my mommas perch were nice and hot! Doubtful I will return here again sadly.

I landed on the ribeye special of the day. Dry-aged 10oz with mushrooms and two sides. Bread is delicious as well as the honey mustard salad dressing they make in-house. What wasn't amazing was the steak. Dry-aged doesn't mean the steak in the back of the cooler that got dried out. It was so tough it was hard to cut and unable to chew. The waitress just kept saying oh no and it took her a minute of watching me hit the steak with my fork and it not giving at all. At medium rare, it was ridiculously hard with the ends dried out. It was cooked perfectly but dry aging breaks down muscle fibers and removes moisture for a nutty funky flavor. This one was a miss. There was nothing tender about it. She replaced it was chicken Marsala. I already had my sides so it was just a chicken breast on a big plate with a mushroom gravy. They forget the cream. The chicken was cheap chicken breast that has that funky texture like it's raw but it is clearly fully cooked. Chicken was flavorless. Sauce was good but could have been better with some cream. In laws we're treating us so I didn't send this one back too. They love this place and wanted to bring us here. We went early on a Saturday about 5pm. It was getting very busy as we left. What a delightful and FUN evening!…read more First time at this steakhouse. It was a party of four celebrating my birthday. As soon as we approached the front of the restaurant, I immediately felt like living back in Chicago. As we stepped inside and I took a look around, it hit me. Walking into this steakhouse feels like stepping into a vintage Chicago steakhouse/speakeasy. The doors open to the faint, unmistakable scent of charcoal-seared prime beef, aged bourbon, and pipe tobacco. Dim, moody lighting glints off polished brass fixtures and Art Deco geometric paneling, setting an atmosphere of unmistakable luxury. It wowed me. It has been a full year since I experienced this. This steakhouse is the pinnacle of indulgent dining, characterized by impeccable hospitality, expertly crafted dishes, and an atmosphere of refined luxury. It seamlessly blends the finest cuts of premium, dry-aged beef with white-tablecloth elegance and a sophisticated, but fun ambiance. Interiors feature dark wood paneling, rich leathers, brass accents, and low, warm lighting to create an intimate and timeless setting. White-Glove Service: The waitstaff are highly trained professionals who anticipate your every need. Tables feature crisp linen, heavy silverware, and polished glasses. The Bar: The focal point of the room is often an expansive, classic bar featuring a world-class cocktail program. Signature drinks include bone-dry martinis and perfectly balanced Old Fashioneds. Reminiscent of a top-tier Chicago steakhouse! The menu selection is fantastic, and the staff is wonderfully synchronized with a keen eye for the little details. Everyone at our table was wowed and completely satisfied. The lower level cigar lounge had tremendous atmosphere and it was the perfect way to finish the night. Highly recommended you try this place. Let me tell you a bit more about La Dolce Vita & Cigar Lounge. This cigar lounge is an adjoining gourmet dessert and cigar lounge. It allows you to wrap up your evening with fine wines, single malt scotches, and hand-rolled cigars, even featuring elaborate, over-the-top desserts like their molten "Candy Bar Bomb". I will write another review soon because we will be back. I will also update the review and share all the great food and all the appetizers drinks and desserts that we had on my awesome birthday dinner! So stay tuned ;) ALSO I want to give kudos to the gal that deboned my Dover Sole, after dinner we headed down to the cigar lounge and she asked me how was my meal and she was very polite and professional it made me smile that she took the time to confirm how I felt about the Dover Sole. The details added up throughout the evening.

Shorty's Steakhouse (Garrett, Indiana) - looking for a unique steakhouse, not too far outside Fort…read moreWayne? Shorty's is one of the Salvatori's Restaurant Group offerings that is located on Main Street in Garrett. Head north on 327 to the downtown area. Shorty's is set in a small and older building located on the east side of the road. You will need to park on the street - which isn't an issue in Garrett. As I said... Shorty's is a smaller venue. The building holds about 10 people at the bar and 90 inside dinners. The outdoor patio appears to seat about 50 people. Shorty's is always busy - especially on Friday/Saturday nights. So, make a reservation via their website. The larger side room can hold bigger groups of 8-14 people. Otherwise you are limited to a table of four. Upon entering the restaurant you will quickly encounter the host stand right at the door. There is no real foyer area to wait for your table. You may feel uncomfortably close to a stranger if things are backed up. The bar area is one of the first things you see. Legend has it that this bar was relocated from a Chicago area business who had it installed in around the time the 1893 World's Fair was in Chicago. The bar wood work, design and finishing are gorgeous! Very inviting. The older part of restaurant retains the decor of the old building - attractive dark wood interiors/fixtures, green plaster ceilings and hardwood floors. All are very comfortable and welcoming. The host and service team were very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of help to hustle drink orders, refills and follow up. The kitchen is very small. Food orders may take a bit of time when they are busy. So be prepared to relax, enjoy a bar drink, converse and admire the renovations. Shorty's has a decent variety to offer on their smaller food and drink menus. They are more than just steaks. In general, most items are a bit pricey...but probably normal for most area steakhouses. Here is a run down of the food we ordered: -Table Bread: nothing to special; white bread roll with a firm exterior and soft inside with basic butter; tasted like it was freshly baked -House Salad: nice sized salad with a fresh taste and ingredients; several side vegetables and cheese to dress up/accent the salad; the honey mustard dressing tasted familiar - probably not made in house -Crab Cakes: my wife loved her crab cakes; tender, full of crab and seafood tastes; nicely grilled exterior -Prime Rib & Baked Potato: delicious taste, tender and smaller amounts of fat; my medium rare request seemed to be more medium as I didn't see much pink coloring; the real horseradish lacked the usual bold kick that I except. The potato was baked perfectly and accented with the usual dollops of smooth butter and sour cream. Good steakhouse choice. Overall, Shorty's offers good food & drink selections in a unique setting. Remember, Shorty's is a very popular place and fills up quickly. Therefore, plan ahead and make a reservation. Shorty's is definitely worth a trip to Garrett to give them a try.

Unfortunately they were closed on Sunday so I had to call into my bank and cancel my card. While reviewing the transactions, I realized the amount they had authorized to my card was $10 more than our bill+tip. I used to be a server and worked at a bank so I know how authorizations work so I patiently waited until it cleared. My worst fears were confirmed! Not only did she not return my debit card after payment, apparently she was upset with her 12% tip and added a 1 to my tip to make it +$10! I called pretty upset on Monday afternoon and talked to a manager named Collin who seemed to not care about the issue. No apologies, only to promise to talk to the owner to see if they could do something for me since I lived out of state. I waited until Friday to call them back and was told by the hostess that Natalie would be calling me back later as she was on a call. She did call back about 1 1/2 hours later and said she had already refunded my card for the $10 and that she had looked at the receipt and it appeared I had issues writing with the pen so she could see how the server (Caitlyn) could have thought the tip was $16. 25! I let her know I had no issues with the pen and anything other than my 6.25 on the receipt was added by her server. I told her I was worried for all of the other tables where she had given bad service to and she had done the same thing. She said the server already gave the store back the $10 and apologized for the confusion. Sorry, there was no confusion here! I do truly appreciate Natalie with apologizing for the issue and refunding the money but I would never go to this place and if you do, I would make sure your server wasn't named Natalie. I changed my rating from a 4 to a 1 due to this fiasco. This one was hard to rate. Wish Yelp let me do somewhere around 3.5-3.8. What was good? We walked in and only had to wait about 10 minutes on a Saturday night the weekend of Mother's Day. Our server started off really bad. Didn't introduce herself and she started talking when we weren't even looking at her not realizing she had made it to the table. Her service didn't get much better from there. No mention of the specials. No offer of adult beverages. Bad. Just... What do you want to drink? I used to be a server so I know what they are told to do. We started off with cheese curds and they were pretty good. A little burnt tasting which it felt like was due to older oil that they were fried in. Other than that, they were pretty good. My wife got the Balsamic Chicken Breasts and she absolutely loved hers! She took half of it home so it felt like a pretty good value. I got the Sully Burger and had high hopes. It was good, don't get me wrong. But was it amazing? Nah. The burger was completely overdone and dry. Also didn't love the fried potatoes on it as much as I thought I would. Unfortunately, I was most excited about the horseradish sauce on the burger and it was non-existent. But... All this being said, it was a good burger. Not great. The ambiance of the place was pretty cool and we did really enjoy ourself. So.. I rated it on here at a 4 but probably not quite that good considering the horrible service. She also took forever to come check on us and bring us our check. Probably 20 minutes once we were done (and 20 min after we told her we were done!)
