I came in for a Saturday morning appointment. Everyone was so nice and friendly from the moment I walked in. While I was waiting, Stephanie asked if I wanted to come in the back and look over frames, upon which I proceeded to ask her opinion on so many options. She was so helpful and patient and helped me pick out a perfect pair of frames and even talked with me about different lenses and the gradients. As for the eye exam itself, Dr. Mayeda was so nice and explained each of the tests to me and the purpose as to why he was doing them so I felt very comfortable and informed. Dr. Shimazaki took my 2 year old son in as a patient and helped him with his glasses! At Kaiser my son had to be restrained by myself, the Doctor and a nurse and they still got his reading wrong. Love this place! Everyone is so nice. I've been seeing Dr Mayeda since I got LASIK in January 2015. He is wonderful. He's very patient and answered all my questions and listened to my concerns. He also monitored my healing and progress closely, scheduling follow up appointments as needed. I was scheduled for a yearly eye exam today, but Dr Mayeda was sick. Dr Shimazaki did my exam and he was very nice and thorough also! I am so impressed not only with them but also the rest of the wonderful staff. I believe her name was Steph, patiently helped me while I tried on sunglasses and Michael was super awesome figuring out what my insurance coverage looked like and confirming everything. The Bad: lots of workers at the counter, but they dont seem especially attentive when you walk in. Everyone seems busy so I stood around waiting for someone to assist me. I ordered a new set of glasses and didn't bother checking in as they advised I would receive a call. I waited a good 2+ weeks and when I called to check status, low behold they had "just" received my glasses from the lab. Just get the feeling it was sitting behind their counter waiting for me to call which is normally what I experience at every optometry I visit. The Good: The glasses were great, good pricing, and their technician that comes out to provide all the options was very helpful and informative allowing me to select all the preferences and upgrades I wanted. The same person also helped me select the frame and she was very helpful and nice suggesting pair after pair until I felt comfortable with my pick. read more

I bumped into this place by accident. From the moment I came in, I felt welcomed. I needed to have an eye exam right away and so last minute because I needed contacts, my prescription had expired at lens crafters and they wouldn't see me in that moment so I had to schedule till after my meeting (which was inconvenient for me). Mind you, I didn't have an appointment and had one hour to spare due to a meeting I had pending. Luckily their scheduled appointment didn't show up, they were able to see me right away. Dr. Mayeda was warm and fast knowing I didn't have much time to spare. I am very grateful to them for accommodating me. Total cost was $200. It includes eye exam, contact fitting, week supply of disposable contacts and an observation of the retina ( my eyes were dilated on my return visit). The front desk was professional and called my insurance to find out if my insurance covered the eye exam. I am happy to be a new patient. read more

Consistently, I've found friendly, knowledgable faces that make the experience of getting one's vision checked, a breeze. Dr. Shimazaki, AKA Chad, is a smart, young, doctor with a sense of humor. Their selection of glasses and sunglasses is great, even if you require some customizations (like I often do, in terms of getting polarized and mirror coated lenses). I love the experience, overall, so much that I come back from San Francisco, every year to get my yearly check-up. I've been a patient at North Torrance Optometry for more than 11 years and have always had a good experience with the service provided. Recently, there were two issues with work from their lab where the frames needed to be sent back. I was pretty frustrated with the situations but Dr. Chad Shimazaki called me personally to apologize and accepted responsibility for the mishaps though they were not entirely his fault and was genuinely apologetic for what had happened. I've been coming to this place for the past 4 years and for the most part they do an ok job when it's just a regular eye check up. The other day I went in and was a having a bit of an issue with my eye and although I do understand that they are not an emergency room it was the closest place that I could go to because I work accross the street. I walked in and tried to see a Dr and they told me I had to wait in between appointments which I was ok with but when they asked me for my medical card they told me they didn't take my insurance. I asked if I could just pay out of pocket and was told that it would be best if I stayed in network. I didn't think that was very professional at all and was very offended by it. I'm going to have to look for a new optometrist. read more
