    Little Ricky

We have been going to River Trails Animal Hospital and Dr. De Los Monteros for 15 years for our baby, Ricky. The staff and Dr. D have always been more than wonderful, loving and kind. Last night, we had to put our baby to sleep, and while it is a horrific decision, Dr. D and the staff made the experience gentle, loving and pain free for him. She is beyond caring and empathetic, always has been over the 15 years. I highly recommend River Trails to anyone that has a pet as they will always be loved and cared for!

Ragnar at the beautiful new office.

I grew up in the area and all of my family dogs were brought to RT so there was no question that I would bring my own dogs here. Prior to moving to the suburbs, we would bring our dog from the city to be cared for by RT (and we would do it again). River Trails has become like family to us. We had a very unexpected loss of our dog and the communication and outreach from the doctors was incredible. Dr Delia was empathetic and open during a very difficult time and we received heartfelt messages from both Dr Overby and Dr De Los Monteros after our loss. We have always received exceptional care and compassion from all of the doctors and staff at RT and are so happy they are part of the neighborhood.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR ONE PARTICULAR INCIDENT:…read more Our beloved dog (Zoe) of 15 years battled through cancer for 2 years and last Thursday was the day we decided to let her go after a seizure episode that she couldn't recover from. Unfortunately, what we thought would be a peaceful goodbye turned out to be a devastating experience to our family (and sad for Zoe). The doctor lacked compassion and bedside manner. When our dog was still breathing after administering the 3rd shot, he said "I don't understand, these shots would have taken a horse down." This is NOT something you say to a grieving family, maybe to your colleagues or students. There were no comforting words or explanation as to what was happening. All he did was go in and out of the room to give her more shots because our dog was still breathing (he tells us, "I've been doing this for 53 years and I never had this happen"). After the 4th shot, he came back in the room and told us that he would have to administer an intracardiac euthanasia. I totally lost it! My son and I walked out of the room, but my husband and daughter stayed. My husband said that 2 shots were given straight to her heart. This was such a devastating and traumatic experience for all of us. We were hoping that our final moments with our beloved Zoe would be peaceful, but it was not. My husband said that it was only at this moment (after Zoe's heart had stopped), the doctor said that it had to be done because of her low blood pressure (no other time during our ordeal did he offer an explanation). The only positive thing I can say was that the attending Vet Nurse Britina showed compassion, and Vet Nurse Sara who sat down with me and my son in the lobby, explained to us what "could" possibly be happening to Zoe. Sara lend a warm touch to ease my pain. This doctor has 53 years of experience, he may have been so desensitized after doing this for 53 years (like it's just another day in the office), because he showed no care or sympathy. We have seen other doctors in this clinic who has much less experience but showed more care and empathy. I am writing this to spare someone from this awful, awful experience. Overall, Zoe has been going here for over 3 years since our old Vet moved out of state. Zoe had seen Dr. Zebold and Dr. McGriff, and they are both great. Unfortunately, this one particular incident is a horrendous experience we will never forget.

Unfortunately Stella got very sick and we were at Deerfield Animal care center a few times a week. Dr. Barron was our main vet and her caring, thoughtful and extremely thorough attention gave us the comfort we needed. Unfortunately Stella had to cross the rainbow bridge, but Dr. Barron was not only her Doctor, but her advocate, her friend and provided us the help and loving care we so badly needed. I can't recommend DACC enough and especially Dr. Barron.are the highest I could ever express. Our thanks and appreciation are reflected in this review.

I do a lot of research into veterinarians after being let down on more than one occasion from long time practitioners. With many hours of research across multiple sites, I picked Dr. Cohen. I am so glad I did. I have never had such a great experience with any medical doctor in my life! He offers real options, options and their value to cost ratio, and helps cool some of the fears that come with the unknowns of two new family members after several years sadly without pets. I can get a little worked up over small symptoms. To keep things short, I have brought both pets in for emergent and preventative and I have always felt good after the experience. Juxtapose this to the Wolf clinic where I had to go twice when adopting from orphans of the storm- who never let me speak with the vet and brushed off real medical questions with the excuses of policy. If you are on the fence, give Dr. Cohen and the Highland park vet clinic a try. Once you have spoken with him, you will know you are working with an outstanding physician!

He is 9 1/2 and we REFUSED to make him live the rest of his life convalescing from back surgery. My wife researched who to go to for possible holistic treatments, and found Dr. Mullen and as it turns out, she happened to be at Kohn Animal Hospital. Let me start by saying that Dr. Mullen made a HUGE HUGE HUGE and let me say again, HUGE impact on our boy. She started with laser treatments, acupuncture and vitamin B shots at his acupuncture points. She worked with him and after one treatment, ONE TREATMENT, Hoss was acting like his old self. Wanting to run, play with his brother. We had to keep him calm so he wouldn't re-injure himself. Here we are, 4 months later, and he is still doing AMAZING. Dr. Mullen changed our boys life for the better and we couldn't be happier and more pleased with the unbelievable level of care that Dr. Mullen has provided. She shows just how much she cares for each patient. She sees Hoss, she melts to the floor and gives him rubs, hugs, kisses, and is overjoyed to see him. Her expertise and knowledge of the course of treatment that she has recommended and is doing has surpassed our expectations. We recommended Kohn/Dr. Mullen to a dear friend of ours that has a French Bulldog (so does Dr. Mullen) and she was able to diagnose and is in the process of treating his boy's allergies and they are FINALLY under control and his boy is so much happier than he ever was before Dr. Mullen's expertise. We LOVE Dr. Mullen and she is the best vet (besides our regular vet) that we have ever had the pleasure and trust to take our boy to. If our regular vet were to ever close its doors, Kohn and Dr. Mullen would be our number one choice. Dr. Mullen is now more than our Basset boys doctor, she is family to us and we hope to keep seeing her for a long time to come!

Some of the staff is very nice as well. The problem is the other staff. They are horrible starting with the manager Kelly. Hear is what happened. I called about an appointment and they told me doctor Miller didn't have anything until next week. Then they called me back saying we just had a cancelation. I was like that's great. They told me it was at 5 pm. That is a very hard time for me to get there. But I agreed. So I rearrange my day to get there. Left work at 230 pm, drove an hour and a half home to get my dog, drove an hour to get to the vet, Just to be told it was with another doctor. No big deal except my dog had a major surgery 2 months ago. A large portion of his liver was removed. So you can see why I would want to speak to the doctor that I has taken care of my dogs from the beginning. I don't know about you? But my dogs are part of my family. I want someone who is familiar with my dog and his history in a case like this. Not just reading a file and maybe missing something. If other was just a check up know big deal. But after almost losing him from cancer. No way. So to pick back up back up after I arrive at the vet. They tell me they appointment is with someone else. I said no way. I just changed my whole day around and drove for a total of 3+ hours from work in Chicago to Elgin to Lincolnshire back to Elgin. All during heavy traffic. So the manager comes in and says maybe I should find another vet. I said just give me my records. I told her I would like to talk to the owner. She tells me they are not there. I told her to have one of the owners call me. Suddenly one of the owners is there. Then the owner (who magically appeared) comes in and is completely rude and really shows the true face of the business. Absolutely no apologies for the misunderstanding. Basically telling me that she could careless. Keep in mind I feel there may be something wrong with my dog this whole time. So I decided to take my dog to the emergency room at the university of Wisconsin. Where his surgery was done. Just to wrap this up the new ownership of this hospital not only has driven the prices through the roof. they have also been acquired by new ownership that obviously does not care about the customers or the animals. Just another vet that has become all about the money. I have a feeling that may become more and more evident over time. When businesses have owners like this. Who knows what goes on in the is behind the scenes. If you love your animals and they are family. Go somewhere else. Animal people need to have a vet that cares.

When we took her back to be checked out, as her top eyelid was not shutting, her left ear wasn't moving or her left nostril, Dr. Dadkhahs only suggestion was to get an MRI - SUPER - lets spend $6,000 for what? I'm not saying Google is a good doctor, but it was more effective in diagnosing our dog than this "vet surgeon"! Just awful pre and post care! A good vet surgeon would have waited to do surgery Vs rush rush rush - to see if the mass cell would go completely which was looking like it was. Additionally, for someone who's been to school for this type of stuff, not to identify that she has facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) paralysis is just flat out DUMB!!
