Dr. Phillips and Dr. Thomas were amazing when our chow chow, Kiki, needed a dental cleaning. Chows can be wary, and Kiki had a couple of traumatic vet experiences in the past that made us very nervous about leaving her alone and going under anesthesia. Both vets, along with the vet tech team, listened to our concerns and worked with us to keep things safe and low-stress for everyone. They went above and beyond to make the process smooth, and even followed up afterward when Kiki had some appetite issues from her meds. Their guidance helped her bounce back quickly. This vet is so convenient, caring, and efficient! My cavapoo sustained an eye injury last night from a tennis ball at the dog park. It worsened around 2am. I found Northgate Veterinary from a Google search, and based on information on their website on their services and reviews, booked an appointment online for 8:30am (6 hours after booking). They got records from our normal vet as we were arriving. The staff and Dr. Lee were so kind and thorough. We waited for less than 5 minutes in the waiting room before being seen by the vet tech Nora. Dr. Lee was in immediately and checked Cecilia and addressed our concerns and gave us a treatment plan we were confident in and all in less than half an hour including exam and dispensing medicine. They were transparent with their very fair fees. They emailed and texted appointment reminders before we came in and immediately emailed records when we were done. They offer coffee and water in the waiting room. They also have a super convenient app. It epitomized excellent service and care! read more

every single time we've been here, they try to talk us into extra services that are not necessary. the last time, they seriously suggested that my husband and i subject our 12-year-old cat, whom i've had since he was a baby, to anesthesia. the reason: to figure out why most of his incisors fell out 10 years ago. nothing can be done about it. he's healthy and happy. the vet he saw when i discovered the missing teeth found no clear cause but didn't think it needed further treatment. he said he could put my kitty under and look around but that that was not medically necessary. honestly, they seem to be in it for the money. i even heard them tell someone who called that there is a charge for phone calls! every single time we've gone there, they've tried to upsell. every time. i put up with it, but today i got yet another sales email from them and i'm done. i thought about the last visit and got annoyed all over again. suggesting that he undergo anesthesia when it was not necessary is just too far, and i should have done this sooner. read more

Awful!!! First appointment at this clinic. The vet did not touch or even look at my cat, the assistant gave my cat a shot, which was extremely upsetting for both myself and my kitty. Worst of all, they would not do blood work or urinalysis unless I agreed to pay $500!! I walked away paying $80 for a shot. Do not bring your fur babies here. NOW AWFUL!!! Find another place! Incompetent, too busy, too expensive. Since being bought by a private equity company, it's unforgivable the amount of mistakes made. We've been going here since 2005. They got rid of all their long time employees, and the new ones have no idea what to do and keep messing up. While in the waiting room, I witnessed a dog parent being given a prescription for a different dog. Thankfully the owner caught it! Their communication is horrible. Trying to get an appointment soon is impossible. Have had to go to the ER for non urgent things just because they were too busy.They forget to do things but tell you they did. They forgot do things for his annual exam but said they did and now he has health issues. We are trying to figure out if that's because things were not checked 18 months ago. His teeth haven't been looked at in 2 and 1/2 years and I've asked that be done but it never was. They are three to four times more expensive than they were 5 years ago. Highly suggest switching vets if you're a current client, or not go here to begin with.They let a veterinarian work through her 12 months contract. Even though 3 months into being here, she stopped doing surgeries because she " didn't feel comfortable doing them ". What kind of veterinarian cannot do surgeries and what happened to the pets that had surgeries with her? It's her first three months? Jen is so wonderful, I was so stressed getting my kittens on time in the morning and was so grumpy and wasn't a very pleasant customer. She was so nice and professional even tho I was in a bad mood. I own a business and I can honestly say that this place is really lucky to have someone like this working there. My little kitties are so comfortable there and I plan on going back always. I'm so grateful that my kitties are in such great hands and the bill wasn't at all as expensive as I thought it was going to be, for two kittens, it was so much less money than I thought it was actually in shock when I received the final bill. This is my first Yelp review I've ever written but I felt like it was important to do so. I have two beautiful miniature bully fur babies and I began taking my oldest female they're a little under a year ago. I recently had switched her from a vet that was wonderful in our same town The only reason why I had to do so was because she was pregnant and they didn't handle c-sections due to her breed and body structure she needed one. From the beginning there was nothing but issues. Most of the vet staff and several of the doctors were afraid of her. And let me just say she is the sweetest girl ever of course with her pregnancy she was a little more on guard but I would feel as veterinarians they would know how to approach and handle those situations. The previous vet had no issues with her she was always happy to go there Roosevelt animal hospital was where we previously went if anyone needs a referral for a good vet in shoreline area. As many of us dog parents know that any dog is going to be standoffish if they feel that the person approaching them is on edge and that is why she would react the way she would when most of the staff there would approach her. She would growl or put her tail between her legs her ears back because she felt uneasy. Because of that they told me that I would need to give her gabapentin every time I brought her in. As well as she always had to have a muzzle on. There was two doctors a woman and a male that approached her as I would think most staff should have and Athena was fine and loved them The male Doctor said she was the sweetest girl ever and did an amazing job so I know that it's not my dog it's the staff being under trained in dealing with different breeds and animals that may be more stressed. My girl has really bad allergies we recently performed an allergy test on her about a month ago she gets monthly shots for her allergies as she's allergic to everything we later found out once we got the results. When I brought her in to that appointment to get her allergy shot nails trimmed etc the vet tech that brought her back was already on edge she was shaking she was stuttering her word's and of course Athena didn't want to go with her due to her demeanor. About half an hour to 45 minutes later the lady brought her back and was acting in the same manner,could barely get words out said that she couldn't trim her nails she wasn't cooperating and next time I needed to make sure and give her the drugs so they could handle her. Mind you I don't believe I said this before I did tell the doctors that I would not drug my dog every time I brought her in because it was unnecessary and no other vet had an issue with her. We do have an animal hospital right up the street and I've brought her there several times as well they've never had to muzzle her and never had an issue so I'm not sure why Northgate veterinarian is not able to handle her. So the last straw for me was today she had her monthly allergy shot appointment at 8:00 a.m. and we were on our way to the appointment I recently had a major surgery December 12th and I'm not going to be able to really move around for about 10 weeks so I was moving a little bit slower and we were running a few minutes behind The vet tech called me and said Athena had a appointment at 8:00 a.m. and I informed her that we were on our way and I was just running a little bit behind due to my recent surgery she rudely told me that she didn't know if they would be able to see her today and she would need to check with the other technicians came back on the phone said need to reschedule aren't going to be able to see her I asked if there was any way we were almost there also said I didn't mind waiting,she really needs it as her skin is extremely broken out she had no compassion in trying to fit us in as well as the reasoning why we were running late. I understand if they're booked and busy and absolutely can't fit her in that's one thing but I felt and I believe I'm accurate they didn't want to try and fit her in because they didn't want to see her because they don't like handling her because they're untrained. So seeing as how we were almost there we still came My husband went in for me due to my surgery it's hard for me to walk in even though I would have liked to speak with them and tell them how I felt that is why I'm writing this review. He walked in and asked for all of the records printed out for both of our dogs as we would be going to another vet. So we will be returning to our original vet before Athena got pregnant Roosevelt animal hospital. And I really hope that this veterinarian will read this review and speak and train their staff properly regarding different breeds and personalities of those dogs and how to handle them. I had a similar experience as Forrest M's recent experience below. I had been coming to Northgate Veterinary Clinic for years and had overlooked concerns I've had with cost increases, among other things, since the clinic was sold and under new management. But after my experience this past weekend, I feel compelled to take my pets and business elsewhere. I had a 1:00 appointment on Saturday to bring my 18 1/2 year old in for an appointment. He had been a patient of NGV since he was 10 weeks old. Traffic on I-5 was horrendous and, once it became apparent that I was going to be late due, I called to let NGV know. I was told that the policy is generally that arrivals more than 10 minutes late may need to be rescheduled but to just get there as soon as I was able. I arrived at 1:11--one minute past the general 10-minute policy, and was told that I would need to reschedule. There was no flexibility and no consideration of my cat's age or condition or length of time that we have been customers/patients at NGV. I explained that I have been a customer of NGV for 20 years, during which time there have been countless times (indeed, it has been the norm) for me to have to wait for appointments when we've arrived on time, and times when I've been given time estimates of 30 minutes for treatment/work on my pets and then instead had to wait hours. They didn't didn't seem to care and refused to budge. I since reached out to express my frustration as a 20-year-customer, who has been patient and flexible and understanding when NGV has not been timely or caused me to wait for lengthy periods of time based on false time estimates. I would have hoped that NGV would have extended me the same courtesy instead of drawing a line in the sand and not considering the totality of the circumstances. I've not heard one peep from them, which only speaks to their complete lack of customer service. Had there even been the slightest bit of outreach I may have reconsidered sticking with them. But they don't seem to care to keep our business, so we, with all three of our pets, are transitioning to a new vet clinic. read more

We have been loyal clients since November 2005. Dr. Phillips took excellent care of our pugs. From routine care, spay surgery, cancer treatment and other procedures, our beloved pugs received great care. The staff was professional and friendly. When the practice was sold, all the things we appreciated about Northgate Veterinary Clinic started to disappear. Now the practice is impersonal and there have been employees that have been horribly unprofessional. The tremendous price increases that have funded the in-house lab and the declining level of care have driven us away. I had expressed my concerns to the office manager at the end of 2019, but I did not see any changes or improvements. Please do your research before considering this clinic for vet care. I should also mention when our pug had her spay surgery, she was supposed to have had an umbilical hernia repair at the same time. This was discussed during a visit & on the phone with the vet. Imagine my surprise that this secondary procedure wasn't performed. I never mentioned it as I didn't want our pug to have anesthesia again. This was easily the worst medical establishment I've ever been too. And thats comparing it to my experiences in hospitals and medical offices as well. I would tell you when you are searching for a new Dr to take care of your pet/child, however you see it. keep looking cause after waiting the extremely long 6 months+ to get in, you will be extremely disappointed and frustrated. First to make the appointment, i was waiting upwards of 6 months, once finally their I was informed they didn't have the flea/heartworm/medication I specifically asked for when i made my appointment. The one they had they said was what I asked for though, even though it covered different things, was a different medication, and was taken in completely different frequencies. So I'm finally at the vets, and oh look at that they're under staffed and only have one vet tech on, but a calendar for multiple veterinary techs? End up waiting for over an hour before getting in a room, once I;m there I get to wait another couple hours, during this time they take my dog downstairs to which people are not allowed to take vitals. During this I can hear my dog howling/crying, she isnt much of a talker unless she's having the time of her life and chatting, or if she's very very stressed out. It was safe to assume it wasn't the time of her life when she came back up to me. I also finally learned after hours(probably part of why I was kept waiting) that they didn't have my animals records, NEITHER of my animals records. I had called ahead, given names, SPELLED THE PURPOSEFULLY as i knew one was very unique. And they got both wrong and didn't contact the right vet for my dog so they had zero records when i showed up. Because of this, they had to r/s me for next week, gave me some test tubes to bring feces back in, and gave my cat her shots after I waited for them to recall the vet while I was there for the proper records. And let me know we have an appt for Saturday and unless they call to cancel assume i need to go. You can imagine they did not call, so i;m set to go and get my dog her shots and move on with life. NOPE, they didn't call again and were trying to tell me they were trying but the vet wasn't answering. I asked if they were just calling today? They said no they called previously, I said that's so odd cause i never had issues getting them on the line or to call me next day. I do know they're closed on Saturday which is why i told y'all not to call them on the weekend. So if you waited to call til the morning of the appt then yeah, they won;t answer as it;s a Saturday. I was able to get them from my ex, which was a the less than ideal route to go, but I could not r/s another appt for the same thing, both out of frustration and out fo resources, I don't have the ability to go to 3+ vet appts a month with 2 jobs. Fast forward to today, I call to get a vet appt for my dog, she has some irritated skin and is biting/itching/licking it a lot. Curious if it;s allergies or something I;m overlooking, I appear to be running a few minutes late. When i call 3 minutes before my appt to let them know I'll be 5-10 minutes late, Tyler*** is quick to tell me with what I can only hear as a smirk in his voice, that if I'm too late then I'll be moved to curbside queue or need to be reschedule. I asked what curbside was like and its more or less relinquishing your dog to the front desk to take downstairs and put in a kennel indefinitely til they finally look at them while they're terrified. After having only horror experiences from this AWFUL business I could not believe in my effort to communicate my second job had me a little behind but I was going to be there and it should be more than 5-10 minutes - (GPS estimated 7 after) - that I was only met with a strict policy and what didn't even seem like a person who understood what sympathy/empathy was. It may be for wha these people consider animals, but my pet is a huge part of my life and their careless handling of their paperwork, workflows, customers, and client appears to directly pass down to their handling of your baby The only redeeming quality of this entire Vet clinic is one front desk worker who really was assuring and helpful and thought about the animals. I am new to Seattle and interviewed several Veterinary Clinics. I was so disappointed until I called Northgate Vet. From the front desk to the techs to the doctors, everyone was great! I had my dog daughter spayed and I was extremely nervous. I am very picky and ask a lot of questions. They made me feel very comfortable through the whole process. I chose to do the laser instead of the scalpel and the cold laser therapy after for quicker healing. She recovered quickly & is doing great! I would highly recommend this practice. I got concerned with my precious baby girl - AKA "Cat" - When she was breathing heavy/panting the other night. I was referred over by my wife; when she took our other lil' guy to here. Upon arrival, the front desk/receptionist did acknowledge me and a pet's name. However, was the wrong name. This is ok, as there was probably another appointment scheduled with my time. They got me in rather quick and asked if I like to have a felt blanket; which is, basically a calming blanket for my cat. I did, and got some complimentary: coffee, tea or hot-coco (self-serve Kurieg). Albeit, this was alright. However, the place was clean and had a homie touch to it. When we were called (my cat and I). The Assistant Sandy, was very kind to my cat "Serena" and I. I informed the issue / why I am here and she was very understanding. Fast-forward, when Dr. Nordeen came in; she gave a very comforting experiencing and informative of: What needs to be done, what diagnostic are good and an explanation of each. In addition, she informed her suggestion on what be good to consider and what won't be necessary for Serena - unless I think otherwise. However, its nice to know the honesty and care. Overall, to sum it up. The customer service was good and not only - in a, do your job kind of way, rather. They showed authentic care and sincerity for Serena. I truly appreciate that, while considering my cost. Pros: Reasonable amount of parking, Good hospitality, sincere and care staff + Doctor. Cons: Have not encountered any! I used to take my two dogs since I adapted them. I like the doctors and nurse technicians because they comfort my dogs very much. I felt I was very welcome to come to see everyone there. I also used their services when my dogs died. They have another entrance for us not to see other visitors. It is great for all of us since our hearts broke... Only I did not like was a doctor put medication in my dog's ear, and she became deaf. It was not good quality of life for my dog. I a few time brought my dog there after becoming deaf, but I did not see any improvement sadly. Last October I visited for a rabies shot for my dog so we could travel to Europe with her. I explicitly said to scan the microchip and include the number when administering the vaccine multiple times, including to the vet and veterinary nurse. On the receipt I was charged for a "microchip rabies vaccine" yet on the certificate there was no chip number. We were almost denied entry to Europe because of this. Honestly, I am so impressed with the level of professionalism and friendliness at this veterinary clinic that it would be rude of me not to give them a great shout-out on Yelp! The process of making an appointment, the appointment itself, and even my experience after the appointment was effortless and great overall. They are quick to respond with their online appointment system and were specific about pricing when asked, which I really appreciated. I brought my little pup Chevi in for a routine wellness exam and health certificate for travel to CA, and was in and out within 30 minutes. From the get-go, they had a little "Welcome!" sign outside of the practice with Chevi's name on it, which I thought was soooo cute. Dr. Philips and Kendal were very sweet and helpful throughout my appointment, and I never felt pushed to buy any further services or products. The girls at the reception area were also very nice, attentive to any questions I had, and just seemed to be very calm and collected in an environment that I understand to be quite stressful. Finally, the customer service after the appointment was unreal. I was immediately emailed a copy of my pup's visit info, as well as received a phone call a few days later just to see how my pup was doing after his appointment. Everyone there was sweet and perky and ready to answer any questions or concerns I may have had. Very professional staff. The exam was more thorough than he has recieved in the past. She checked his teeth, his knees, heart, and skin. She asked about what type of food I give him which is smart to ask. I wish I'd read more reviews before I brought my dog here for the first time this past weekend. I went in for a routine checkup and for a fractured canine tooth. It took 2 hours to see him (long!) and cost $350 bill for bloodwork (overpriced but necessary) and biopsy of a small bump they were concerned about (unnecessary). They were also unable to determine the status of his tooth, saying that would require a $550-$800 dollar dental exam. I just got the feeling the owners (or whoever) here prioritize making $$$ over best serving you. I will say the vet himself was informative and friendly enough, and as for the cost I know it's Seattle but still they're pretty high. I should have just taken him to a doggy dental expert. Care wise I have little complaints about their thoroughness, explanation of assessment and physical caring of my pet. However, this place is extremely expensive and excessive when it comes to testing. I compared their costs to about 4 other spots in the area and what shocked to see it hover around 25-30% more. I have a close friend whose partner is a vet and have her re-assess their findings, clinically they are the same but in regards to suggestions on further testing and visits, was told it is excessive. read more

My two star rating is due solely to cost of this clinic. We were thrilled at the cleanliness, friendliness and professionalism of the establishment. That all changed when we got the estimate for a dental cleaning for our 15 pound dog. $870 to $955. This did not include the mandatory blood panel which was an additional $300 or the added cost of any extractions which would be anywhere between $75 to $150 per tooth depending on the tooth pulled. This dental cleaning for our 15lb dog would total $1170 to 1250 not including any teeth being pulled!!!! After getting home I called 5 vets (including South Seattle vet, Third + Stewart, Helping Hands) in the Seattle area for estimates. All vets had specials ranging from a TOTAL cost of $250 to no specials of $377 (extractions are not included in the price as a general rule). These prices also did not include any meds that might be prescribed to go home with us. I would love to go to Northgate vet because they are in our neighborhood but if they are trying to scam clients like this for a dental procedure how overpriced are their other services. When we declined the dental service there was marked change in the assistant who gave us the estimate which then spoke to us about their character. Buyer Beware. read more

Brought in my fur baby for multiple issues today. I loved that they had an appointment available with 48hrs and that all staff from phone to in-person were all amazingly warm and friendly. The Tech and doctor were above and beyond sweet with my baby and patient with him although he was very stressed and not feeling well, thus being uncooperative. They were able to do a UA through Sono for $75 which was great! As well as all diagnostics within reasonable pricing. Lastly, they requested records from TX which is were. from, so they know history. Overall, I can't be more happy to have found my sweetheart's new vet! read more

By far the best vet I have ever taken my dog too. I have been to multiple other veterinary offices because I have moved a lot and Douglas has never received such attentive and sweet care. All the employees went out of their way to be kind and make my dog feel comfortable. Dr.Park was great with Doug and explained everything to me very detailed. This vet clinic is the worst. We were overcharged for treating an ear infection because we were told our lab mix needed to be sedated, even though when we offered to hold his head to help, they refused that suggestion. We paid $800 to treat an ear infection. Next, our dachshund has been suffering heart failure and we were quoted a low price for an EKG and when we actually brought her in for the procedure, the cost jumped from $120 to $500, with an additional $300 just to review. So another $800 visit. We told them we'd need to consider that higher cost and would call back regarding scheduling an appointment. That very same day they scheduled an appointment without our consent; we emailed them and told them to cancel. A few days later, we brought our dachshund back in for more medication and we were given the wrong quantity and when we called back requesting the proper amount, we were told we'd need vet approval again even though they messed up the pill quantity from the vets original prescription. Finally, we needed to refill our dachshunds prescription and were told AGAIN that vet approval would be needed; heart failure is a life-long condition that requires life-long medication. There were no refills for our dog, even though we were told we could refill as often as needed, as long as quarterly check-ups were scheduled. I was not pleased. Love this clinic! They are very well staffed with kind and attentive employees who always try to make my dog feel comfortable. They have an spray that they put on a bandana to wrap around your puppy or kitty's neck that has the same hormones a momma produces during nursing, so it calms their anxiety and works super well for my dog. They also helped to provide excellent dental care for my dog who had to have four teeth removed. After doing the preventative care they recommended, one year later they say her teeth are looking great, no need for any more extractions! I highly recommend Northgate Veterinary Clinic. We took our kittens to Northgate Veterinary Clinic for a welcome / checkup appointment, followed a few weeks later by neutering. Every staff member we've interacted with has been awesome. They clearly care about the animals. The treatments our kittens have gotten have been effective. The clinic staff has been available by phone, text and email to answer questions and to get us additional medications or treatments when needed. We'll continue working with the clinic even though it's a bit further drive for us. read more

I brought my newly adopted dog here because they were convenient and were able to get my dog in the same day. I received a text message from the doctor saying that they were looking forward to seeing me and my dog. Very nice touch. Dr. Wiser was very friendly, knowledgeable and compassionate, and the front counter staff were very nice as well, even when my ill little dog messed on the floor. The clinic is clean and pleasant and modern inside though from the outside it just looks like an older house. They gave Buster an IV to hydrate him and pain meds and did a blood test and sent his stool out for testing to see what was going on with his diarrhea and vomiting. I didn't plan on coming here but will probably make this our regular vet for the dog since the experience has been very good. read more

The staff is nice. They are good with animals. I think the ownership is just greedy. This place is the car dealer of the veterinary world, looking to unreasonably separate you and your hard earned dollars! I'm sure they love animals too, however, at every turn it's an up sell or extra charge. I've spent over $600 just to get my puppy's basic vaccines. Other vets quoted me between $250-350 when I recently called. These folks quoted me one price, then charged me another at check out. Clearly the staff has had some training on how to increase revenue and encourage add ons at the point of sale. On my puppy's first visit, I asked them to inspect his ears for an ear infection or mites. They told me there would be additional charges to look at his ears. Ok. I then asked them to demonstrate how to clean his ears and they wouldn't do a demo without charging for an ear cleaning. Charging customers to use a cotton ball and ear solution.... Later for a follow up vaccine, they required an additional payment....I had already paid for the initial vaccination shot and they told me at the time that the cost of the follow up shot was included in the first payment. That wasn't the case when we got there for the follow up shot. My first payment only covered the first shot. The second shot costs the same as the first shot. I ended up paying $70 when I anticipated spending $35. I will not be returning here. Far too many other options that are fair and reasonable with what they charge. While this place appears to put animals first, maximizing the extraction of YOUR dollars is definitely their main objective. read more

After waiting for well over a month, I finally got my dog into see Dr. Phillips; Murphy (my dog) was experiencing some cloudiness in his left eye and NG Vet Clinic specifically states on their website that they diagnose and treat animal eye problems, including cataracts. During our visit, Dr. Phillips was very pleasant buy my stomach turned upside down when he informed us that they only refer to eye specialists; they don't do any type of surgical procedures. I was so angry and upset to learn that; I had initially scheduled Murphy at another eye specialist but cancelled because Northgate was able to get us in sooner; now I have to start all over! I'm looking at probably six weeks before he can even be seen! I even told the receptionist when I made the appt. what Murphy was experiencing in his left eye; why didn't she have the sense to tell me that they don't perform any surgical procedures and that I might want to call somewhere else???!!!! I adopted a cranky elder dog during the pandemic and have brought him to Northgate Veterinary Clinic a few times. I've been pleased with each visit and care provided. Most recently he was seen for a staph infection and I was allowed in the building to accompany him after showing proof of COVID vaccination. At this time, they are allowing one person in the building with your pet(s) as long as you have valid proof of vaccination. For folks like me, who have pets with anger issues that do better with a family member present, this is huge. I'm an LVT at a local specialty hospital and they have very kindly extended professional discounts and they have never once made me feel pressured or poorly for not being able to afford certain services. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the doctors with whom I've worked always have a few options to discuss with me in regards to my dog's care. They also have an online pharmacy that is easy to use and offers discounts regularly. I am planning on adopting another senior dog shortly and will definitely be bringing her in for her primary care needs. Thanks folks! read more
