Dr.Smith is a great vet! This place should have 5 stars because they truly deserve it ! I have a Pomeranian who had an anal gland rupture. I won't go into detail because it's just too long, but Dr.Smith always knows exactly what to do and how to take care of your pet. The other vet (I don't know her name) but I think she's the only other woman vet there. She seems really good too. I've never had a consult with her but I always see her in the office and she's just so sweet and engaging with the animals. She seems like she cares a lot too. The whole staff is wonderful there. The front staff always gets me scheduled on time, and they quickly get me in the room for the consult. Luckily, I never have to wait and they take care of all my needs! read more

I have been coming to this vet since I got my dog, and after my experience today, I will never be coming back. When I walked in, the woman at the front desk was on the phone, which I completely understand. I was patiently waiting to be helped. A man named Jason then walked out, did not acknowledge me or say hello, sat down, and started working. The woman on the phone eventually looked over and asked him to help me, and from the very beginning, his attitude toward me was rude and unwelcoming. While I was waiting for my dog to receive her shot, Jason told me, in a very rude tone, "I can check you out now if you want." The entire interaction felt unnecessarily unpleasant. Then, when the woman came out to get my dog, I politely asked if she could possibly trim just a little bit of the hair around my dog's face and eyes. I specifically said that if they couldn't do it, it was no big deal, because my dog already had a grooming appointment the following week. She said she could see what they could do. Another woman then came out and asked what I was looking for, but said, in a very rude and condescending tone, "We're not a dog groomer." That completely caught me off guard. I obviously understand that they are not a grooming facility. I was simply asking for a small trim around my dog's eyes and had already made it clear that it was completely fine if they couldn't do it. I told them again that if they couldn't do it, I had no problem waiting until her grooming appointment. Then I was told they were trying to charge me $40 just for the small trim around her eyes. Nobody told me beforehand that this would cost $40. I said, "My dog's grooming alone is $70." At that point, the owner responded to me in a rude tone, "Well, what do you think it should be?" I said $20, because I would have never agreed to spend $40 on such a small trim when her entire grooming appointment is only $70. What made the situation even worse was the way the owner spoke to me. Rather than making me feel heard or trying to understand why I was questioning the charge, I felt extremely uncomfortable and talked down to. Had someone simply told me beforehand, "This will be $40," I could have made the decision not to have it done and waited until her grooming appointment. My issue was never that I expected the service to be free. My issue was that the price was not communicated to me before the service was performed. I think it is completely reasonable for a customer to expect to know the price of an additional service before agreeing to it. What bothers me most is the way I was treated throughout this entire interaction. I have been a paying customer here since I got my dog and have never experienced customer service like this. I understand that businesses have policies and that services cost money, but there is absolutely no reason for a paying customer to be spoken to with such an attitude simply for asking a question. I left feeling extremely uncomfortable and disappointed. After being a loyal customer for so long, this experience completely changed my opinion of this place. Terrible customer service. They're taking advantage of pet owners who are already stressed and trying to do the right thing for their animals. Because of that, I won't be going back. I'm extremely disappointed with the level of care my pet received at this veterinary office with Dr. Smith. During our visit, he did not perform a thorough check-up--no vitals were taken, no temperature check, and nothing was done with my pet's ears, eyes, teeth, or anal glands, etc.... It felt rushed and incomplete. When I asked to speak with the office manager to express my concerns, I was shocked to see that the doctor had documented that all of those checks had been performed. This is simply not true, and I find it unacceptable that a medical professional would falsify a report. I expected transparency, thorough care, and professionalism, but unfortunately, that was not my experience. During another request to fill in a prescription. I had a very upsetting experience at this veterinary office, particularly with the office manager, Jan. When I raised concerns about the level of care my pet received, Jan was incredibly rude and dismissive. She wouldn't allow me to speak or explain the situation, and it was clear she didn't have all the facts in front of her. Instead of trying to understand my concerns or de-escalate the situation, she immediately became defensive. She even threatened to call the police after I said I would stand outside the office and share my experience with other pet owners. This was not a threat--just my right to express how poorly I felt we were treated. Sad to say, for someone who always tries to support local businesses, this business is not worth supporting. As pet owners, we trust veterinary professionals to care for our furry family members with compassion and integrity. Sadly, that was not the case here; now reading other recent reviews, I'm not the first, nor will I be the last. We take Misty, our 3-year old rescue dog (Labrador-mix), into the Center for an initial health evaluation. Dr. Laura Gammaitoni examined our dog thoroughly, calmly and with care. A day later we brought a stool sample into the Center and got a clean bill of health report the next day. We will take Misty there for all her vet care from now on. read more

My dogs had undiagnosed heart disease because I remained here loyal to this Veterinary clinic local to me for a decade. Dr. Smith shouldn't have done dental under anesthesia or given the type of meds he prescribed my babies. I should have been referred to a specialist. I blame myself for not getting a second opinion long ago. Dogs with heart problems should be highly monitored before having any dental or work done under Anesthesia. There was always a huge push for me to spend thousands every time for my dogs dental work with complete disregard to their overall health. Xrays are additional too and should be done at the time of extractions but was never done here. I've spent thousands upon thousands here. Realize now it is all Profit based at the expense of our k9 family member's lives. Do your research when selecting a doctor for your pets. My decision to stay here proved tragic. read more

I had a very bad experience here and wouldnt go back if you paid me a million dollars. Front office manager YELLED AT ME IN A HIGH PITCHED MEAN VOICE OVER NOTHING AND I ASKED HER TO BE KINDER AND LOWER HER VOICE. I AM 80. My persian cat doesnt like going to the doctor and needed nails clipped so they tried gabapentin and it didnt work. The doctors orders were when I brought him in next day to give him two doses so instead they gave him one again and didnt get the job done. I saw on the chart they put a MUZZLE on him. Prices are high for very little service AND ABUSE BY MANAGER. I brought my cat in because he was shedding an unusual amt. and the doctor had the audacity to spend 2 minutes with him and didnt give him a regular exam, temperature, weight, feeling abdomen but CHARGED FOR IT. and charged $110 for shot. When I left manager said to me 'Oh now you're mad at me." PSYCHO. NEVER AGAIN. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THEY DID TO YARMULKE, MY CAT, IN THE BACK ROOM. TOTALLY TRAUMATIZED. THE WORST EVER. read more

The only vet I found that would treat my 19 year old Russian Tortoise. Dr. Smith was very knowledgeable and put me at ease. Was able to diagnose my pet without doing extensive bloodwork or X-rays. Another vet in calabasas told me over the phone, without even seeing my tortoise yet, that I would have to do full bloodwork and X-rays. Which they said just the office visit would be $200 not including labs and X-rays. Northridge Veterinary Center's office visit was way more affordable and Dr. Smith was reassuring that with the correct treatment, my Russian Tortoise will make a full recovery in no time. Dr didn't bother to read what he had previously written (last year) and just guested about her cause of pain. My dog suffered in terrible pain because of Dr. mistake and wrong medication. I spent $784 on useless pain meds and anti inflammatory drugs When I took her to VCA Granda hill she as diagnosed correctly, lanced the infection, and gave correct medication. You won't understand what I mean until your barely middle-aged dog gets diagnosed with an aggressive cancer at the emergency room that Dr. Smith dismissed as just a fat deposit during his vet visit. Our dog is now dead. The hospital notified Dr. Smith. However, he didn't even bother to call to express condolences for an amazing dog that might still be alive if his veterinarian had been more interested in investigating skin lumps that then metastasized after being untreated. My dog was sick and it seemed like an emergency as he didn't eat or drink for a whole day. My family and I took him in as this vet was closest nearby. He was given fluids and meds. And then we were told he has tumors inside his colon and that we should immediately get it scanned and get surgery. This total costed us $900+. We went to get a second opinion and was told he does not. We were also overcharged. This place is a scam. Also, we were given anti-biotic to feed our dog because the vet at northridge vet clinic didn't get to the problem, only gave us meds to treat his symptoms stemming from an infection. So not only does this place overcharge you and try to scam you for money, they misdiagnose and miss the mark completely. Ended up going to Nordhoff Vet. Never coming back here again! read more

My cat was peeing a little blood on a Thursday. I took him here because it was after hours (7pm) and my normal vet was closed. The vet said that he likely had a bladder infection and they'd keep him for a few days to give him some meds and that he should be fine, not to worry, etc. I called the next morning to hear how my cat was. No one answered the phone until the afternoon. When I finally spoke with someone, they said the vet doesn't come in until later that day. I asked them to have the vet call me to provide an update. No call. I called the next day (Sat) and again, got voicemail. Finally got someone to answer the phone that evening and they said my cat was doing ok but he needed to stay there longer. I assumed they would have provided an update on Sunday but I never heard from anyone because they said they aren't open that day (uh, ok, is ANYONE watching my cat? Why am I paying if you aren't there taking care of him?). I called them on Monday AM, someone answered but said that the vet wouldn't be in until that evening again. No call back. I called on Tuesday, and expressed my many concerns, and they said I could come pick up my cat. When I got there to pick him up, they brought me into a room and said that he is still peeing blood but there's nothing really that they could do. UM WHAT? So you had my cat all this time, barely giving ANY updates and now you tell me there's nothing you can do?!?! My cat was in HORRIBLE condition when we got home. First, he had pee and blood all over him and he smelled disgusting. Was no one cleaning him and helping him while he was there? CLEARLY NOT. Second, my cat could barely walk or stand up on his own. So I called them back and asked what's going on, and they said he really didn't eat while he was there. WHY AM I ONLY FINDING THIS OUT NOW? He was so frail. I put towels all over the floor and laid with my cat for a few hours. In the middle of that night, he started having trouble breathing. I rushed him to Woodland Hills Animal Hospital and they rushed him in. They took x-rays and said that my cat had a ton of fluid in his lungs, and that the Northridge vet didn't take good care of him and gave him way too many IV fluids. (NO DUH). My sweet baby boy passed away an hour later. I have no doubt in my mind that Northridge Animal Vet Center was responsible for his DEATH. They are the ABSOLUTE WORST!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!!!!! I don't want want happened to me to happen to you. BEWARE! read more

took my old dog in for limping; an xray and nail trim. got an injection of Adequan. My dog slept for four days after, couldn't get up without help for a week and has been having seizures nearly every day. I heard my dog yelp a couple times while in the back room. When I called back they just offered cortisone and suggested I take my dog to a neurologist. I dont know what happened to my dog during this visit that could have caused all of these horrible problems. So I would not recommend this place to anyone as I believe they are very careless. Dr. Ronald Summers is a great veterinary Doctor who treats your pets with care and compassion and he always tells me everything and gives me options and tells me what the cost will be so at least I'm not surprised. He is a sweet compassionate person and he is always willing to tell me details and advice on the best care for my pets who I love and adore and he treats them with kindness and when it's time to let go we do it for the pet and give them dignity. Now Smith is only one left, all the young girls left because it was a hostile work environment and they are in better places now. Just got back from having my dog chipped. The reason I will not return is the two guys in the front are really not good at communication and my appointment was for 1:40pm but had to wait until 2:00pm to be called in. After my dog was chipped, I went back to the front to pay and just stood there waiting to be acknowledged. After I paid, they gave me paperwork to complete. I could have completed that paperwork while sitting there for 20 minutes past my appointment time. The front desk vibe is really negative. The staff was wonderful. We had to take our 173 pd Great Dane in for a small wound. This is a dog that has floor phobias, usually shiny or hallow sounding floor. She was spooked by the floor here and stopped at the front door not wanting to enter. The staff was so patient and helpful to get her in the lobby. Two of the guys had to basically pick her up and get her on the scale. I had brought a blanket with us so we had to slide her across the floor into the exam room. The Doctor was so great with our dog and my kids. My kids said they approved of the Vet after meeting him and would be happy to bring her back to him. read more

I am so glad that I found this veterinary clinic a year ago. Dr. Smith and Dr. Gamaitoni are excellent. Our cat received great care from them. Our cat lived a long life but unfortunately he became very ill. The doctors were so caring. Our kitty did not want t eat or drink. They did all they could to encourage his appetite with food suggestions and medication, but ultimately they helped us to appreciate that his life was ending. They were very compassionate. The clinic is located in a shopping center on the northwest corner of Rinaldi and Tampa. Easy to get to with plenty of parking. They are open seven days a week, though you may not get a same day appointment. They open very early so if you call early you may get an appointment that day. read more

I Was referred to Dr Smith by a friend who has taken his pets there for several years. I have 2 dogs. First I took my 2 yr old Cocker Spaniel for an ear infection. Dr Smith applied a treatment that was different than what other vets have used on her. Not oily or messy and cleared up the infection for several months. Then I took my 8 yr old Pomeranian for a skin rash. Again, good thorough treatment that is working. The office is pleasant. Staff are pleasant and personable. (I've been to places where the staff could care less and wait times beyond 3 hours). I was impressed how comfortable the space is. So far 5 stars! read more

I've been taking my English and French Bulldogs here for years and between the seven of them they've had all kinds of problems. Ranging from an eye scratched up from beach sand to tumors and the Doctors always gave them the very best care. Dr Smith and Dr. Sommers are awesome, they're always friendly and of course super knowledgeable. I never feel like I'm asking too many or stupid questions even when I probably am. They really make you feel like they care and for me someone who includes their punch face k9's as children this means a lot. One of my Frenchies has a severe allergy problem and Dr. Smith has really help us reduce his symptoms. I highly recommend the to anyone who has pets to bring the to Northridge Veterinary Center. FYI They have shot clinics on certain days to help people save money. They also see Chinchillas. read more

I called a few days ago to find out about rabies shots. I was told when clinics were and that I could also come in at any time. When I came in during a clinic time. I was told they wouldn't give shots without an exam for an extra fee and that I would have to wait for someone to be available. I'm okay if exams required. I don't mind paying for an exam. But maybe instead of popping that on me when I walk in. How about telling me when I called to specifically find out about shots. Then i could decide if I want to do it and even make an appointment so I don't have to come in and wait for who knows how long. A little bit unprofessional in my opinion. read more

Dr. Smith and Dr Sommers have traded off being vets for my various pets since I was a kid. I drive my elderly bulldog from North Hollywood just to go there. Sommers handles my childhood massive Great Dane, even stitching a gaping wound in her side with only a local anesthetic when my father complained about expenses. I think he was whistling happily and grinning as he stitched inches from her large maw. My mother, myself, and a few brave assistants held her down whilst he did it. She didn't flinch once, he was so gentle and bold. Dr. Smith has done wonders with my current old man, an incontinent 12 year old bulldog. We've conquered quite a few things, and I know Halsey is in good hands. As bulldogs begin dropping at 8, well, we can see the quality of Dr. Smith's care. 12 is a miracle. And Dr Smith KEEPS caring. They do some boarding, and are not egotistical as some vets. Smith is not above referring a tough case out to a specialist, if needs be. He always tries his best, also to save his clients money by doing what he KNOWS will work, rather than what costs the most. His staff is capable, courteous and cheerful. The short of it: - Dr. Smith is great! - located in shopping center next to Pet City Grooming - open on Saturdays - front desk can be slow The long of it: Had to bring in my little old man (13 year old Chihuahua) since he wasn't feel too well. Unfortunately, the vet we normally go to was all booked up and couldn't take a last minute walk-in so I turned to my handy dandy yelp to find another vet that was still open on a Saturday afternoon and could see us right away. As soon as I called the Northridge Veterinary Center, they said they could take me in 30min, which was perfect since it was very close by. It took a long time for them to take down my info over the phone, but nevertheless at least they were able to take us in immediately which I was thankful for. Dr. Smith was great and examined my dog thoroughly and I felt that he was very easy to talk to. The staff assisting the doctor were all very nice as well. The whole appointment took about an hour including all the tests and waiting, but the check out process was really fast and we got the medications right away. My dog is now on his way to recovery and I'm glad we got a chance to see a good vet, definitely coming back from now on. read more

I almost feel like I'm in the twilight zone when I read the reviews... so here's our experiences. Used them years ago 7+ for our Cocker and cats and never a bad experience. (for a while we were down to only a cat, and didn't need anything more than clinic shots.) Jump to 2010 ... Mom visiting with her Bichon... went up for an emergency call on a Sunday and saw Dr. Smith (he was great with the dog and mom!) April 2011 - Our big dog needs stitches ... went again on a Sunday emergency & saw Dr. Winkler (she was very professional, caring and worked with us on the options.) Cost: probably average, but they did seem concerned about using the proven most reasonable treatment for the symptom (in all our cases.) I've now compared some prices based on mom's visits to 3 vets and our previous experiences ... they were less than the vets we weren't particularly happy with and very competitive with other experiences that have been good recently and in past. Outcomes: Mom lives 2.5 hours away, Dr. Smith recommended a local vet near her, who we checked out and she's changed to that vet. The Bichon had an ear infection that was not treated properly by her original vet - Dr. Smith's treatment did work, and the new vet checked properly we know cuz we watched her do what previous vet had not done - which Dr. Smith said they should/would do. Our Big Dog: Stitched up and recovering quickly per Doc Winkler - hopefully only 2 bandage changes and stitches out. Last note: Don't know about other's experiences or what they were going through, but our entire family believes these doctors and staff are caring and compassionate to both humans and especially the animals. Everyone we chatted with in the waiting room on 4 visits since late 2010 appears happy, and have been patients/clients for at least 2 years. read more

Dr. Winkler and Somers have been my dog's vets since I moved here approx 5 years ago. The care is excellent, the bedside manner awesome and the communication above no other. The only downside, which is a major downside is that they are the most expensive vets I have ever encountered! When I had to get my youngest puppy fixed, the estimate was near $500. I asked if they could refer a more reasonable one, since I know the average cost should be somewhere around $150. This is the first time that I've been super disappointed with Dr, WInkler as she gave no alternative. I was able to find another vet who did do the proceedure for $75. I will have to dig up the receipt and post a review for them - it was a great experience!! I'm giving this star a 4 for a review due to the pricing. :( read more
