We are long time patrons of southside, our neighbor joint, so we took it upon ourselves to check out the new northside venture. It reminded us a lot of southside with some great new touches. We liked the inside which was a familiar set up of bar on the left, restaurant on the right. The lighting and decor are pleasant as well and a different vibe from southside which I liked. The staff was friendly just like our neighborhood joint! The menu was more abbreviated and perhaps refined? I had the waygu beef which was nicely seasoned. My potatoes were a bit too creamy and my spinach a tad soggy. The portions were huuuge. Everyone at our table took home a box. We had the fried green tomatoes as an app which were okay. My friend had the fish dish and was a little taken aback by finding some bones in her fish. And the tomatoes in the dish were strangely cold. But she said the rice was delicious. So a few little food foibles but overall a good experience. Way to go southside! read more

I've driven past Northside 10 for months and finally had a chance to stop in for lunch. For lunch on a gloomy Tuesday, the restaurant was mostly empty except for a few patrons, but the staff were super attentive. Our waitress, Charlotte, gave us a little description of the restaurant (cajun/Southern food) and made some recommendations. She was a fantastic waitress who never let our glasses empty, causing us to drink SO MUCH diet Coke, but we totally appreciated it. We started out with the risotto fritters, which came with a tomato/bacon sauce. These were out of this world, I could have eaten a thousand of them and still wanted to eat more! For lunch, I hemmed and hawed and settled on the Carolina pork bbq sandwich, which was a great decision. The portion of bbq was hearty and the sauce was really tasty. My fiance got the spicy fried chicken sandwich which was so good that he didn't even offer me a bite. He really liked the blue cheese cole slaw, which sounds amazing. I don't normally comment on the interior decor of restaurants, but I really loved Northside 10's decor. From the decorative tin ceiling to the vintage maps and comfortable booths, I really loved the look. No words for this meal other than "incredible." My spouse and I, both diabetic, were visiting Alexandria and needed to find a restaurant where we could each find something to eat. I had the raw bar and went absolutely nuts on this food. I ate shrimp, mussels and oysters on the half shell. Everything was way beyond on point. The presentation and quality of the oysters, including even the cocktail sauce and horseradish, was way beyond anything I've ever enjoyed. The mussels were the best I've ever had, and the shrimp were great, too. I also can't say enough for the employees and manager. These folks went out of their way to make sure we had a top-notch dining experience, including making suggestions of items where they could substitute healthy ingredients for those we don't eat. We were absolutely stunned at their customer care. You simply don't get that kind of proactive service and creativity at even the top restaurants where we live. I can't wait to go back!! Seafood lovers, do yourself a favor and go on the raw bar night. My husband also enjoyed his meal (chicken, I think). It's almost impossible to fill his bottomless pit (155 lbs. with hollow legs, I guess), and he left full and happy, which is a feat for any restaurant given his requirement for huge portions. I hate being the guy that comes to yelp to air a grievance. However, when the restaurant slips and doesn't make things right when they have the chance, I feel it's warranted. My UberEats order was taking forever to prepare... close to an hour. I called and they realized the error was on their end. My food was sitting there for 30+ minutes and rather than replace my order before a delivery driver came to pick it up, all of my food was delivered to me cold and damp. Came here for a farewell party and the service was really great! The server we had was very attentive and had good humor. It's tough when there are 16 guests to tend to but he did a really good job. Their Black Cherry Sangria was pretty good. I got their short rib poutine and the baked Mac and cheese. All of which were good but not dishes I would come back for because of a craving. My family and I went here for brunch on a Sunday. We called ahead for a res and were seated immediately upon arrival. The environment is loud, energetic, and very family- friendly. It gave me a "chain restaurant" feel, but with higher quality everything. Our server was amazing- I wish I remembered her name. She busted her butt the whole time. We had mimosas, which had mostly champagne, which is always a plus. For appetizers we had the fried pickles and the poutine fries. The fries were delicious. The fried pickles were good, but not the best batter that I have had. For entree, I had the eggs benedict. The canadian bacon was a bit tough, but otherwise, it was good. My dad had the chicken and waffle, which he enjoyed. Do yourself a favor and get the cinnamon roll for dessert(yes, we went all out). The cinnamon roll is a huge plate of deliciousness! It is doughy and creamy and will satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. I would like to go back for dinner. The portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. Chose this place after my mother offered to take me out for a "nice" dinner. It was a lovely experience. We opted to eat outside, because the weather was just perfect and the remnants of the Harvest Moon were hanging overhead. The patio has string lights and looks out over a mostly residential street. Also dog friendly, if that matters to you. Could have used a little more napkins on the glass tabletops, but not too loud or crowded, even though there were several other tables filled. We were greeted and seated within seconds of arriving, even though it was eight o'clock on a Saturday night. Our server was pleasant and efficient, without being hovery or too personal. We started with Risotto Fritters (which is their version of Arancini balls). Lightly breaded and just the right amount of gooey--the "tomato gravy" (chunky marinara) could have been a little more flavorful, but overall a good solid starter. My mother ordered an Oregon Pinot Noir she was very happy with, and I went with a Cider, somewhat dry, perfect for an autumn evening meal. The beverage prices are a little on the high side, but they are also not stingy with the pour. For entrees, she ordered Steak and Fries, substituting waffle sweet potato fries for regular fries, and I had the Parmesan Flounder. Our server made sure to ask how to cook the steak and whether we had any food allergies or anything (such a common thing and so often overlooked). The food arrived promptly, correct, and was very good. My mother's steak was properly cooked (she ordered it rare, which a lot of places can mess up), and my flounder was a lovely layering of shrimp risotto, fried flounder, and a garnish of asparagus, tomatoes and crab. I would have preferred if the asparagus and tomatoes had been cooked (it was more of a cold salad garnish), but the flavor combinations were very good, and the flounder was cooked just right, and they are not stingy with the shrimp or crab. The portions were so large we didn't have room for dessert! Our server gave us our check as we were finishing drinks and said it would be easy to add on anything if we changed our minds (which I appreciated, because it didn't feel like he was trying to rush us out after dropping the check). The prices were fair for what we got, and the overall experience was very nice. The menu is small, but the interpretations of dishes are more creative than your standard "Great American Restaurants" fare, and the place is casual enough to wear jeans and t-shirts, but nice enough to bring a date, if you want to (even if it is your mom!). Not quite fine dining, but a really nice meal out, if you're so inclined. Would definitely return. read more

After a dismal meal on our big date night (see Vola's review), I wanted some food redemption for brunch. However, we now had our daughter in tow, so I had to look for places that could, shall we say "handle", a toddler. There's a decent-sized parking lot. Big plus when schlepping around the kid. The outside patio looks nice too. The interior decor is so-so and the black tile floors don't do it for me. Our server was on point (even though he looked wickedly hung over). Coffee was pretty good and made all the tastier by the fact that my 2-year old was given crayons and a menu to draw all over so my hands were free! Score. Worth noting, although we ordered her just a scrambled egg, the kids menu had some decent offerings outside the standard fare. I had the vegetable omelet (which I don't actually see on the menu right now), but it was excellent. They melted swiss on top which was a nice change from the usual cheese melted on the inside. The cornbread that came with it was crazy good. My husband had the fried chicken basket and thought it was delicious. In the end we shelled out under $30 for a meal we talked about probably two more times that weekend. Will definitely be back. read more

I am an adventurous eater, but find myself being more of a creature of habit when I order here. We ALWAYS order the short rib poutine. It is crazy good- the most rich, delicious, comfort food. If we swing in for brunch, you cannot pass up the dill pickle Bloody Mary- addicting. As far as main fare is concerned, my husband is a huge fan of the Cobb salad and their honey mustard vinaigrette or the Reuben. I love the flounder and short ribs. I've been here twice. Once for dinner with my hubby and 3 kids under 5 yo, and another time for lunch with co-workers. LOVED everything both times. For dinner with the fam, we order the parmesan flounder, full rack of fall off the bone ribs, and the wagyu flat iron steak. Fish was cooked perfectly, the rice, crab, n shrimp with fresh tomatoes and asparagus was very tasty, melts in your mouth. The ribs were tender, and the wagyu, just yum - very rich but super delicious. The sauce was phenomenal. The kids had a burger, which was very good as well. Fries were thin-ish, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Finished it off with a thin mint brownie sundae. Yum. We almost licked the bowl. With coworkers, we got salads (chicken cob salad was delicious!) and sandwiches (go for the rue burger!), all very tasty. Went to hh here too with co workers and they have great bar specials, food and drink-wise. Definitely will be back to finish tasting the rest of the menu. So glad I found the gem. The food was delicious and well cooked. Nice seasoning and colors. Even my 1 year old enjoyed it. It was a beautiful day so we opted for the patio seating. This bar just can't get it together. Three burgers in a row were cooked wrong. The managers here are rude, and the menu is boring. It doesn't change and they never seem to attempt to make it more interesting. They have no respect for the neighbors in the complex across the street and crank music on the patio even when no one is out there drinking/eating. Crappy neighbor, unimpressive food. We chose this restaurant because it was near the airport and we wanted a good lunch before leaving town. It did not disappoint! My partner and I had the fried oyster po boy with fries and coleslaw. It wasn't the best or worst we'd had but overall tasty. My mom got the blackened catfish which she loved. Some thoughts: + Would love to see some rotation on the beer tap - Having miller lite on tap when there are so many other wonderful beers in the world seems an odd choice to me + Brussel Sprouts: Yum! This was a generous serving and came with a good amount of bacon. Would definitely order again +Pulled pork: This was a bit weird for me, I asked the waiter to pick between the spicy chicken and jalapeno pulled chicken for me and I think he heard pick anything you recommend off the menu vs the better of those two, but whatever, I'm not one to waste food. The amount of pork on this sammy was *extremely* generous. The fries were kind of meh. I sometimes find I have hard time describing what makes a good fry vs a bland one (is it the oil? the freshness of the potatoes? je ne sais pas!) but these fell on the bland side Hubs ordered the bacon wrapped meat loaf - which with 3 meats and 'fire-grilled' in the descriptions, sounds like it could be really special, but hubs said it was surprisingly normal tasting. Not bad by any means, but again nothing special. All this said, northside is a *very* welcome addition to the neighborhood and I look forward to trying more dishes to see if I can find a winner. read more

They offer a Moscow mule on their drinks list too which my friend ordered, and it came in a pint glass, not a copper mug (huge pet peeve). We started with the braised short rib poutine appetizer- you won't be disappointed. The meat is perfect. We also got the Brussels. They are ok, decent flavor, melted cheese on top hardens fast so get it while it's hot or else. Entrees consisted of the chopped Cobb salad, the blackened fish salad, and the rue burger. The salads were both great, good portion size with a lot of protein. Burger was good but underwhelming, friend said he would probably order something different next time. Exemplary courtesy and service ! Went for a quick lunch. It was early and the place was not very busy as yet. In spite of living a block away for over 25 years, never went to Chez Andre that Northside replaced so cannot comment on that but the new place is clean and welcoming and the patio should be lovely, come warmer months. The parking lot is definitely a plus. My wife loved her flounder over shrimp risotto, offered me a taste and lost half her meal. The short rib poutine was good too. Iced tea was fresh and crisp. This is my second time here. We came for lunch before and I will say that this is way more of an evening spot. We sat outside tonight. Our server, Mike, has been amazing! We ordered a bottle of wine that was out of stock. Mike offered us another bottle for the same price that turned out to be really good. We ended up having two. I ordered the oyster Po boy. It was a little bread heavy but still delicious. We also had the buffalo wing appetizer. It is HUGE. I did wish they were slightly crispier. They also don't have regular ranch. I missed it.
