Northside 10 is a cool neighborhood bar and restaurant the checks all the boxes on the deliciousness scorecard. However, success of this charming spot can be attributed to Chef Teresa, for she is the heart and soul a very inventive menu. I started out with Northside's signature fried Brussels Sprouts. (I know, you hated them as a kid, but here, you'll love them as an adult). These yummy nuggets of goodness have a nutty flavor that screams perfection; of course, a blanket of cheese goes a long way into making this one of the best vegetables you'll ever have. I finished up with some amazing Risotto Fritters that are sure to become a staple of anyone's visit to Northside 10. They are a gooey, cheesy masterpiece that will make you swear that you have discovered the motherlode of culinary wonder. Northside 10 provides a comfortable atmosphere and great service. This was our second night in Crystal City. Again, based on the reviews we decided to give this a shot. Good choice! The staff was friendly, attentive and seemd to enjoy their jobs. The crab and artichoke dip had a good balance of acid from the artichokes and rich flavor from the cheese and crab. Our 11yo son got the burger with bacon, shrooms and cheese. It was a bit past medium rare, but still had good flavor. My daughter got the Jambalaya pasta and it had a great flavor with just enough heat. I had the oyster po boy and it was great. Oysters were nicely breaded and hot, tasty slaw and remoulade on the side. My wife got one of the specials, the blackened Mahi sandwich with avocado & jalapeno aoili. It was a hit. read more

What a pleasant surprise! I've been to Northside 10 for dinner with friends a while back and recently returned to try their happy hour specials. My husband and I were greeted and given menus as soon as we sat down. Even though the bar area was pretty full, bartender did an excellent job making sure drinks stay full and checked on our needs. We ordered wings, mini nachos and Reu burger. All burgers are 50% off during happy hour which is a great deal! Getting $16 burger for $8! We loved all the dishes we got. Wings were nicely fried and tossed in sauce. Nachos were (not so mini) portion sized with plenty toppings. My favorite was the Reu burger with freshly cooked fries and a huge patty. We'd definitely return to Northside 10 to enjoy more scrumptious dishes they offer. read more

The only reason we are giving this place 3 stars is because of the exceptional service and the ambiance. The employees were very kind but the food was average at best. I wanted to actually give them 2.5 stars. The food needed seasoning, and my husband's pastrami sandwich was very dry (the meat was dry). Also, the peach pound cake was nothing to write home about. Such a cute and homely neighborhood spot! I came here for brunch on a Sunday and didn't make a reservation, but luckily we got a table bc there were just two of us. Servers were friendly but seemed a bit overwhelmed, so it's best not to come here starving at peak times. I ordered a dill pickle Bloody Mary and the salmon eggs benedict. COVID gave us our first Thanksgiving at home as our own little family unit, and having a newborn baby was going to make it challenging for mom and dad to shop, prep, and find time to cook. Said baby also has a dairy allergy which would've meant additional time researching substitutes and modifications on traditional recipes. Enter Northside10, who offered to make us a dairy free version of their Thanksgiving takeout offering. We had never tried this restaurant before but figured why not, because it would make life SO much easier for us. Their menu was generous for the price point and included a Cajun deep fried Turkey, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and Brussels with bacon. My husband spoke with the chef beforehand and she assured us that she could make most of it DF for me to enjoy. We picked up our meal at our scheduled time on Thanksgiving and were totally blown away! The best deep fried Turkey we have EVER had, and every single item except for the gb casserole, rolls, and gravy was dairy free. The turkey was freshly fried, juicy inside and crispy skin on the outside. The cranberry sauce was ask the best we'd ever had, enough to convert both me (a loyal fan of the ocean spray jellied variety) and my husband (who is open minded enough to try cranberry sauces every year but has categorically hated them all). I really enjoy this place, especially since it's a 10 minute drive from our house. We ate dinner on the patio several months ago and received stellar service, AND enjoyed everything we ordered. As others have mentioned, must try the poutine - super cheesy and decadent. Hubby devoured the ribs, and I loved the Parmesan flounder which was perfectly cooked and sat atop a mound of shrimp pirloo (similar to a paella texture), asparagus and cherry tomatoes. The portion is super generous, so I was able to enjoy seconds the next day. I liked this dish so much that I returned not long after and ordered it to-go. The prosecco on tap was also delicious, and they appeared to have some interesting cocktails. My husband and I stopped in for dinner around 7:45pm on a Friday night. The lack of crowd was actually quite surprising considering this is prime dinner time. We were seated immediately in our choice of booth. The bar was slightly crowded, and despite the beautiful weather, the patio was empty. They seemed to have an ok drink menu, but I wasn't paying much attention to that since I, myself, can't partake. A couple of specials were described on a menu (yay for printed specials menus!)-steak and shrimp and fish and chips, I believe. The overall menu is Southern-ish. Our server was great-quick service, suggestions on what they are well-known for, etc. I decided to order the chicken Marsala salad, requesting honey mustard vinaigrette on the side. The salad came with onions, caramelized apples, candied walnuts, tomatoes, and Gorgonzola. When delivered, the portion was huge with ample amounts of all the ingredients. I especially liked the caramelized apples mixed with The saltiness of the Gorgonzola. The chicken was very well marinated in herbs and spices and was very tender. Cornbread was served on the side. My husband ordered the Reu burger-house made pastrami, sauerkraut, Gruyere cheese, house made Russian dressing, and house made pickles. Served with crisp French fries on the side, this burger was monstrous! Cooked perfectly to a medium temperature, he said all of the flavors meshed well together and he would absolutely order this again. The dessert menu looked tempting (key lime pie or brownie sundae in particular); however, since we both cleaned our plates, we didn't think we could handle dessert. The Ruben was ok, the sauerkraut was overly sweet, There was more sauerkruat than meat, it was over powering the sandwich. BUT the fries were SUPER crispy and yummy. The steak and chorizo hash was my least favorite, I won't be ordering again. Although the steak was cooked perfect med. rare it was extremely tough and chewy. Must be a cheap cut. I was on my way home and this sweet little spot caught my eye. I pulled in just as they were opening their doors for brunch and was pleased to see that they offered both indoor and outdoor seating. I opted for indoor seating and enjoyed having the place almost all to myself. I'm pleased to report that they serve large piping hot mugs of delicious coffee. I ordered the $16 shrimp and grits (yes, I really must learn to stop ordering low country foods for big city prices -- when is this fad going to fade, already). Anyway, what I got was a very tasty bowl of soupy grits. I mean, there were 8 shrimp in the plate and runny, runny, runny grits topped with some smokey red sauce (more liquid) and some completely unnecessary micro-greens. Seriously, the flavor profile was spot on, but there is a line about grits that is neatly drawn in Southern soil. Grits should be fork-able as well as spoon-able, not to mention sop-able (best part)! Possibly five grains clung weepingly to my fork. I had the dish boxed up, scratch that, put into a plastic soup container to take home and thicken up a bit for another meal. Guess I am just going to have to return for a happy hour or something to see what else is on offer because, while the flavor was perfect, those grits were just so wrong. Loved the comfy atmosphere, though!! And absolutely zero complaints with the service, of course it was early and I was one of the only customers...still, friendly and unobtrusive. Feeling nostalgic as I was driving around the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, VA. The kids and I would go here quite a bit when we lived here many years ago. It's good southern cuisine. I tried out the grilled pork with green beans and side salad this visit. We normally come here during the weekends and get East Coast oysters. This place is so awesome I had to stop mid-bite to leave a review! I'm always looking for new salad places, but they can be really hit and miss on the portion size, dressing, and overall quality- however, none of these things are an issue here! The size of the salad is honestly huge, the chicken is grilled to perfection, the avocado was freshly cut, bacon was also fresh, along with the tomatoes and other veggies. There were generous portions of the chicken, bacon, bleu cheese, and the salad was just super big in general! It could easily last at least two meals. It's so big I was honestly surprised at the size. It also comes with a big portion of cornbread which was nice! Also, I can be really picky when it comes to dressing, especially with balsamic vinaigrette because it can get really tangy, but their house balsamic is so creamy and delicious and they also included enough dressing with the salad. Cannot overstate how amazing this salad is (chopped cob with grilled chicken sub). The only thing that I would change is the surcharge for changing the fried chicken to grilled. Also got the tots (in case the salad wasn't up to par) and they were great! Southside 815, a fixture in South Old Town, now has a sister in Del Ray and it is an excellent addition to the neighborhood. When they first opened, they displayed some of the disorder that is common in new restaurants, but they now have their sea legs under them and are humming along. New neighborhood places tend to get tested early. If you went in "too soon" after opening, try again. Came here on a rain Sunday. I remember this spot being fairly new and taking after a French restaurant, but we never visited. First observation is that they are always packed - or their parking lot is at least! The place is actually pretty MASSIVE. Outdoor seating, indoor seating, bar seating, and their back area seating. So they will always be able to provide! The food is ok. I think there are places that are definitely better, but it does the job. One dish that stood out to me we're their risotto fritters. They were AMAZING. Service was kind of slow, but the people we're extremely nice. Overall - nothing really stood out to me that makes me want to call this place a crowd fave. Was looking to get brunch and Northside 10 came up on the map so we decided to give it a try. Got seated right away and the first thing I notice was how cozy and intimate the place felt. Our server Kathryn was very attentive and constantly checked up on us to see if we needed anything and the workers are very friendly. When I think of brunch I think of eggs and I ordered the eggs Benedict that came with a side of home fries and salad. The eggs were poached perfectly, the home fries was well seasoned with peppers and onions and the salad was dressed nicely with a light vinaigrette. It was seriously so good and I enjoyed every bit of it. My bf ordered a spicy chicken sandwich which was actually really spicy and so flavorful! One of the spiciest chicken sandwiches I've ever had and the side of pickled cucumbers and fries balanced it out so well. Northside 10 is one of our favorites and we hadn't ordered from here in awhile so we decided to order dinner for this evening from here delivered via Uber Eats. I ordered the Cobb salad with fried chicken. It's also available with grilled chicken. The salad had fresh greens,avocado,bacon,tomatoes (I asked for no tomatoes but my salad had 2 on it),hard boiled eggs,and blue cheese crumbles on it with your choice of dressing. My salad greens were fresh and the salad had a good amount of chicken on it. I love the fried chicken strips from here and that's what they use for the fried chicken topping on the salads. My hubby ordered the Blackened Fish salad. It had a large perfectly done and blackened piece of fish on a nice assortment of greens. The fish was nice and flakey and my husband said it tasted very good. With dinner we ordered a favorite of ours....the Coconut Pie. We absolutely love the coconut pie from Northside 10. It's coconut cream pie covered with whipped cream and it's really,really,really good. Unfortunately instead of the usual big slices of pie we've gotten with all other orders this time we got a tiny "scoop" (or little piece) of pie and another that was a normal size piece of pie. For that disappointment I'm taking one star off. The pie is seriously delicious and giving someone a few bites worth is like tormenting them! Short ribs poutine was not flavored at all and they just had a blob of mozzarella on top, fries seemed old. The crab artichoke dip was sent back since it tasted sour . I love the Northside/Liberty restaurant family so it makes me sad to write this review. First, I want to say the hostess here was wonderful. She was accommodating, smiling, and a joy. We had Dan L. as our waiter. The restaurant was busy but not full. We ordered cocktails and our appetizer. When we ordered our entrees, that was the last we saw the waiter until he dropped off the check. My guest's water was empty before our appetizers came. When the entrees came, I asked the food runner if he could refill my friend's water. He said yes, but her water glass wasn't ever filled. I finished my cocktail right after we received our food, but the waiter was never back to ask if I needed another--which I would have gotten. He never checked on how our food was. We had also planned on getting dessert there, which we didn't since after a long time of sitting with empty plates, the waiter dropped off the check. We went into Old Town for dessert. The waiter came back with the check and put it on the table without looking at us. Our entrees were okay, but not great. They were warm but we could eat them immediately. I won't give up on the Northside family, but I won't be back to this specific restaurant. read more

Within walking distance of my buddy's place is a little gem that has only been there a short time. Happy hour is excellent and pretty great fare at a nice price. It is very busy at that time though, so plan on hanging out a little bit and waiting to take advantage of the best prices. Burgers are large, juicy and flavorful. My only complaint here is that the staff is pretty thin, so you really have to put your patience hat on because they are not likely to be quick by any stretch.
