On my first day, Coach Carlos ("Los") made me feel welcome right away and has continued to be incredibly encouraging and patient throughout the weeks/months that followed. I've come to really appreciate his teaching style. He has a keen ability to break down and explain movements clearly and add a key detail when he sees me struggling to instantly improve what I am doing -- it's been essential to my progress. He, along with the other coaches (Coach Grant, Coach Rinaldo, Coach Rocco, Coach Nick, and Master Cleber), create an environment that is both competitive and deeply focused on learning. They've managed to strike the perfect balance, allowing a hobbyist like me to grow alongside more serious competitors and practitioners. I also want to highlight the athletes who train here. As a girl amongst the boys I didn't feel awkward but empowered to come back and learn more. But my biggest takeaway from CSD was the "community" there. Didn't matter your skill level everyone was there to train and have a good time.
