I had to bring my 17 year old Boston Terrier to them in the middle of the night he was having a seizure and Deep down I knew I would not be bringing him home. They took him immediately. After taking our 11 year old Pittie Mix for a walk around our development on 9/11/25, we noticed the left side of her face starting to swell. She had been bitten by something out on her walk. It was 9 pm and our regular vet was obviously not responding. I called NorthStar and they advised that it was in our best interest to bring her over for a Dr to check her out. I was truly amazed by how caring and professional the staff at NorthStar was. From the intake team to the Doctor !!!!! Once we knew our baby was going to be OK, I focused my attention on the bill. Living in Monmouth County my entire life has taught me that Emergency Pet visits are NOT CHEAP !!!! I was expecting the bill to be about $600 and I was OK with that. When I was informed that my total bill was only $240.00 I almost fell off the comfy couch I was sitting in. I could not believe it......So inexpensive for such amazing care. I told the staff that I was so impressed with the service and absolutely FLOORED by the price that I wanted to put my money where my mouth was, so I promised to send over a feast on Friday 9/12. I sent over a few pies, some subs, some chicken parm, etc.......the staff enjoyed and I made some very hard working people who never get enough credit very happy for 1 night. These folks are amazing !!!! Hopefully you never have to use them, but it's good to know that if you do need to use them, they are always there ready to help in anyway possible. Will charge $283 to tell you to give your dog chicken and rice for a bacterial infection. This, of course, will not treat the infection, so you'll have to go back and be upsold bloodwork and an x-ray for $1300 when an antibiotic would have resolved the problem in the first place. Don't worry though, they'll waive the exam fee to get it down to that $1300. After three hours in the waiting room, which has ticks on the furniture, the bloodwork will reveal that your dog has an infection. The x-ray will reveal that your dog has diarrhea. These are the symptoms that you brought her in for on the first visit. You will eventually get an antibiotic though, after your dog has had diarrhea for two weeks. I took my female Chow there on a Saturday evening because I had clipped her back dew claw and it was bleeding severely! Everyone that I met there was incredibly caring and compassionate and helpful! Everyone! They took such great care of my dog! I was so grateful! The entire staff should be highly commended! They stopped the bleeding and even trimmed the rest of her nails for me! They sent us home with antibiotics and an advil like drug for a dog that I can look inside and see organs. She's been crying nonstop so I called to get a stronger prescription, they said "the doctor is busy, they'll call you back. 3 hours later of hearing my dog cry and groan and no call, I call them back. They still don't have a doctor to talk to and they again say "we'll call you back." Brought my cat in for emergency treatment late at night. Unfortunately I had nobody to care for my kids, so I arrived with 3 little ones in tow, way past their bedtimes. The people could not have been more lovely. Although they were busy with lots of emergencies, they regularly checked in with us while we were waiting, . They cared for the cat, the kids, and the mom. They even had to stay after hours to help us because of how many people had come in that night and they did. The place was extremely clean and nice. I couldn't get an appointment at my normal vet so I took my dog chino here as he had a cyst burst in between his toes (which i didn't know at the time) which was causing him to not put any weight on it. He is a dog aggressive dog and is fearful of the vet, which makes it hard to find veterinarians willing to see him. All of the staff here accommodated him without a second thought which made a stressful experience so much easier. They also remembered him immediately when I called a few days later about another cyst that had appeared. I sat there for 3 1/2 hours with my dog who had an eye infection. I explained to the dr that he needed to be muzzled so they could put medicine in his eye! They did not have any muzzles! This is a trauma center!!!! The dr proceeded to tell me that they couldn't get the medicine in his eye because he was turning blue from lack of oxogen from being traumatized by the staff Who held him down and had a leash so tight around his neck!!!! I was skeptical taking my cat here because of the reviews, but it was the only walk in emergency vet by me. I brought my cat in where he was diagnosed with a urinary obstruction. Just an hour or so they successfully unblocked it, but kept him for a few days to observe and help him. The staff was very friendly, called us daily to give updates. Three days later when we were going to take him home he got worse within a couple of hours, but not for the reason why we brought him in. Unfortunately when his condition got we worse we decided euthanasia for his sake. The staff was extremely sensitive to our feelings and caring. We could not have asked for anyone more friendly. I'll be honest, based on the reviews, I was hesitant to go to NorthStar but my puppy needed to see an Orthopedist and they're 5 minutes away so I decided to have faith and try them out. Making an appointment with the specialist was easy, so was completing the forms online. Sure, I had to wait, but my puppy was taken in, cared for, x-rays were taken without him being sedated as we asked (our primary vet wanted to sedate him for this and that was something we were not comfortable with). We're grateful Dr. Lancelot was accommodating. Reggie is doing much better now. I was so comfortable with the experience that I returned a few days later with my other puppy. She was having diarrhea for few days and it was time for an intervention. This time we came in for an emergency visit. We knew we would have to wait a while in the parking lot so we prepared beforehand to watch some Netflix in the car while we wait. Yes, the entire thing took 2 hours, but not more than it would take for a human ER. I am just grateful that this facility exists, it's close by and available 24-7. The next morning (not even 12 hours after), there was a kind email in my inbox asking me how Regina was doing. Thankfully, we all finally had a good night's rest. Absolutely not. The rudest person I have ever encountered is the first unfortunate person you talk to. They are more worried about having you sign paperwork show your license and wear a mask ( when they barely wear masks themselves) I came in with my 5-week-old puppy from a litter I had, my puppy through up, was lethargic, and very unstable. I'm calm but same time freaking out. I had just run out of my house with only a debit card, the horrible front desk person gives my friend and me a mask and paperwork to fill out. I'm holding my puppy with a mask in my hand and run into the first room. I put my puppy down and the mask. The front desk person follows us in and hands me the clipboard. I start writing my info down she stands in front of me picks up the mask gives me the worst attitude and says put your mask on. Then asks for my ID again, after I told her I didn't have it. My friend gives her ID. I finish the paperwork and bring it back to the front I put the DL on the counter, and the other front horrible front desk person asks condescendingly is there a problem. I said yes she has the worst attitude. They continue to argue with me, proving they have no respect for their job or patients. She says to me you can go down to jersey shore animal shelter you don't have to be here. If I didn't have a puppy that was barely breathing I would have. Uneducated, low life's that work there. My daughter and I just experienced a horrifying situation that was handled incredibly poorly. We sadly had to put our cat down which consists of two shots. The first shot, puts them in to a relaxing sleep and this is when you are suppose to be able to say your good byes. The second shot is what stops there heart. After the Dr administered the first shot our cat started gasping for air. After watching him for about. 1/2 a minute on the floor gasping, The Dr grabbed him and ran out of the room and down the hall. Nobody came back to explain what happened or let us know when he was gone and they just left my daughter and I there confused. So I went to the front desk and asked to speak to the Dr who never came out. A nurse came out instead who had no answer for me. We choose this difficult choice for our pets so they can go peacefully. What happened to my cat WASN'T PEACEFUL. He DIDN'T DESERVE that! And my daughter and I deserved an explanation after what happened. IAbout two weeks ago, I went to this place with my sick dog.as it was after hours and I could not get into my own vet's office..I just want to warn anyone who decides to go there, in an emergency to think twice. My dog had been vomiting for about 1.5 hours and I felt it prudent to go to the emergency room..I arrived and waited to be seen and was told there were six people ahead of me. At this point the dog was vomiting in the car, and I explained that he appeared to be unable to have a bowel movement and might have a blockage. The girl said ok and I would be seen. I waited close to two hours and saw no one entering or exiting the facility.I might add that in these Covid times, one has to wait in the car.. As the dog was still vomiting in the car, I decided to go home (a mile away) where I was able to more easily take care of my dog. I tried calling in, I called at 11:30 and 1:30 still could not get in with my dog..I was never seen by a triage nurse to determine the severity of the illness..I should have been seen by an experienced vet's assistant or someone with experience in treating animals..I was seen by a very non-compassionate young girl...who saw the dog was vomiting and did nothing to get my dog to be seen by a vet..It has taken me this amount of time to be able to write this review, and try not to be so judgmental. My dog was dead by the next morning. I sat up with him all night...I feel first of all that they are understaffed and should have had a doctor on call, if they got "slammed" as I was told by the office manager. She claimed I could have admitted him to the hospital, and the dog would have been seen, and I was never told this while the dog was alive. I was sent a text that said I could admit him but was not told the doctor would look at him. This has been a most devastating experience and I can only say that I have lived in three states: NY, PA and FL and have had occasion to visit emergency clinics in each state and have never, ever been to an emergency clinic run so poorly. Again,think twice before going there. There are better emergency clinics in the area.. read more

I just want everyone to know what a horrible experience I just had at Northstar Vets in Brick. We took our cat at 9:25 am to be seen do to labor breathing possibly pneumonia and was put into a room due to she may be contagious. We waited there for a triage technician for about an hour. When it was 3 hours later went out to ask how long it will be until the vet comes in to see us. We were told 4 animals before her and 2 were being seen at that time. Another hour goes by and I went out again. 4 hours later and was told that it may be another 4 to 5 hours. I said she is here for labored breathing and you wait that long. They stated they will send in a technician again. Waited another 10 minutes and nobody came in. I asked if we would be charged and they said no and walked out. Im from out of town and brought my dog in and was charged $400 to get refills on meds he was already on and told he had arthritis and there's nothing they can do. The vet even had the audacity to try talking about his "quality of life"???? I sent my vet at home a VIDEO of my dog walking and he diagnosed my dog correctly with what was later shown on an X-ray as a cranial crucial rupture. They didn't even offer an X-Ray or mention that possibility which is common for his breed. Front desk older woman was very rude. Yelled at my mother for waiting in the waiting area infront of everybody which was very unprofessional. Our dog saw Dr. Higgins who was worse than the woman at the front desk. I went to go get my boyfriend who was out of the room to hear what she had to say and she told me "hurry up". But once my boyfriend came in the room her attitude automatically changed....We have spent almost 7,000 dollars at Northstar and for a doctor to say "hurry up" because she had other patients is just so rude regardless of the situation and how flustered she may have been. If a doctor gets that overwhelmed so fast they should probably choose a different profession especially acting that way to pet owners who are upset and concerned with their animals to begin with. The Robbinsville location is much better. I wouldn't go to the Brick location unless you are seeing Dr. Stobie. read more

Do not expect compassion for your sick animal. The receptionist we encountered was cold and unconcerned with our pet's health status. Your potentially dying animal will compete to be seen with other animals that have regular standard vet checkups. Our dog has been vomiting blood, bloody stool, not eating, drinking or acting normal in anyway for 5 days. We waited for over an hour before we thankfully got in touch with ocean county vca animal hospital on route 9 in Lakewood who understood the urgency of the matter and told us to come right over. I understand every facility has their policies to abide by, regardless.of whether they make sense.or not, but at the very least, decent bedside manner is expected. read more
