On 05/29/2022 at approximately 8 pm I called this vet because my Shih Tzu was attacked by a large dog and was bleeding profusely from her chest by her leg. I was asked the type of dog I had and was told not sure if the vet could see her. I was put on hold for over 10 minutes to check with the vet. I find that this was unacceptable being that this is an emergency vet and my dog needed immediate treatment. I proceeded to hang up and contacted Garden State Vet in Tinton Falls. They were more than happy for me to bring in my dog without any questions. I will make sure that this goes viral on how I was treated by this facility. read more

We have been going to Dr. Shapley for Accupuncture treatments on our 10yr old chocolate lab to treat her arthritis. It is incredible how much it has helped her. I brought my dog to this place at about 4:50 pm today & walked out at 7:00! First, they Only had one doctor in, but there were 3 or 4 receptionists sitting behind that "protective vinyl"; one was talking on her phone & the other two were just chatting away! This place was built maybe within the last 1 1/2 years, it's huge & there must be at least 8-10 exam rooms for 1 doctor; oh, the other doctor left at 6pm. There is Zero professionalism & the only reason I went there was because Route 70 ER Vets in Lakewood, NJ were closing when I called due to, yes....here we go again, due to Covid! Walked out & would Never go back there again. There's an ER Vet on Rt. 37 in Toms River but the best place down here is Red Bank! read more

The place runs like a well oiled machine

I took my cat to them twice within a month time period. They were unable to tell me how sick my cat truly was. They never gave me his records after I asked twice and my local vet asked once. My cat had to be put down because of extreme fluid in his lungs. NorthStar Vets refunded me based solely on me telling them that my cat had to be put down (without me even initiating the refund request). Suspicious much? My cat did not have to suffer like he did and it was due to NorthStar's incompetence that this happened. Please, find another emergency vet to take your pet. Would give zero stars if I could. read more

I won't be back. I came to NorthStar due to no other veterinary offices open. While cutting my dogs nails she flinched last minute making me hit the quick. Unfortunately her nail wouldn't stop bleeding so I brought her over to NorthStar. Automatically when I walked in you could see the ladies at the front desk were uncomfortable due to my dog having high anxiety. A nice tech came out, took her into the back & after two minutes came back with her. That's when we both saw the quick stop powder didn't work so she explained how they'll bring her into the back again to do the powder again. This time it took almost fifteen minutes & i was very worried on what was going on. The technician who originally took came out to the front and sat down at the front desk.. weird but okay. Next i see another women come out, lean down to the front desk lady & technician & start whispering. Then I heard "she's over there sitting in the corner" referring to me. The lady at the front waved me over so i could pay, when she stated how much it was the technician stopped her & said she was going to charge me extra due to the fact that my dog was very anxious & "urinated & deficated" i apologized but again stated how i said she had anxious when at the vet, which she was told prior. The tech then said they muzzled her & had to hold her down onto her side.. why?? How did you have no problems with my dog the first time yet this time you "held her down", seems extremely aggressive for an anxious and scared dog who's never been to this practice before. I was suspicious of this including after being a veterinary technician for over three years, never do you just muzzle & forcefully hold a dog down because they're anxious. After questioning it the tech starting holding her hand saying my dog bit her, yet had no type of marking or redness & my dog having NO aggression issues EVER. The tech stated that she was fine but she did bite her. So you're telling me my dog was aggressive yet is almost seven years old and never been aggressive to any other vets or people? Sorry but being in the veterinary field they must've done something if she even did try to bite them. I found it funny also she "bit" the tech and she only stated this after telling me they had to "hold her down & muzzle her". They're lucky i'm not asking for video surveillance and creating a lawsuit. They also stated they wouldn't bring my dog to me until i payed them. My dog came back so anxious, stumbling around, & seemed like she was just in a cage fight. I will NEVER will come back again. If i need an vet that bad, i'll travel to go to Garden State Veterinary! read more

Northstar Vets of Brick were terrible. I can't say how I would like to sop them from practicing. Besides being uncourteous and disrespectful, the Staff seem genuinely unconcerned with your animal, Family member. The vets were also uncaring. I worked with Zoe Lancelot. She offered a surgical cure for my Dog, and said she could do it the following day. The price was high, but they advertise how trained and special they are. She never removed the mass that was bothering my Dog. He did succumb to the mass that was never removed. They collect their fees before they even treat your pet. My dog passed away suddenly at 10:45 on a Sunday night. Totally heartbroken when I called and asked to bring him in and the only response we received was "we close at 11". Explained he was a Great Dane and it would take a few minutes to get him in the car and was told "be here by 11". No compassion whatsoever. I arrived there at 7pm on tuesday because my puppy wasnt feeling well. They took her in right away to check her vitals because she was shaking. They came back out with her saying that she had a fever but her vitals were good and I had to wait at least 2 hours. I was ok with that because i wanted to make sure my puppy was ok. By now its 10 pm and i am still waiting along with 2 other people. they finally came over at about 10:30 to tell me that they couldnt see my puppy bc the doctor who was breanna callejas had to conduct a surgery and wouldnt be available for another few hours and they were closing at 11. Of course i became upset bc no one should be made to wait over 3 hours only to be sent away. This was the worst experience ever. The Karens at the front desk were so rude and not sympathetic at all. They should not be working for the public. Yes you are there for us. the Customers, the public, the patients. retire!!! I wouldnt recommend this place at all. Thank God at that time of night i was able to find another place who although were closing in 15 minutes, were able to see my puppy and get her the proper treatment. Excellent animal hospital. My dog got the best care. I felt everyone was truly concerned about his health. Dr. Ryan Keegan is the best cardiologist I've ever met. I feel my dog, Panda is in the best hands possible with Dr. Keegan as his doctor. All the North Star facilities are excellent. Great, caring staff. Clean, bright and warm buildings. Best of all their prices are reasonable and affordable. I highly recommend them for any emergency you may have with your pet or just basic routine care. 5 stars for Noethstar read more

The staff was amazing at getting us in to see a doc in a timely fashion. The doc and techs were absolutely amazing with my scared puppy and just as good with me being that I was so anxiety ridden and in tears because my dog was in pain and crying. Be prepared to wait literally hours before receiving any attention. This place is a total disgrace. Waiting endlessly for hours on end. Slow is an understatement. After waiting for hours we were told that there were 2 dogs ahead of us and it would be another 2-3 hours and that one vet was leaving for the day. Two dogs 3 hours is this a joke? If you're understaffed maybe you should reconsider before featuring yourself as a "emergency" hospital. We waited so long my dogs symptoms were improving so we left and did a follow up with our vet the following day. We noticed people that thought they were done were waiting another 40 minutes to check out and get their pets meds. If this place was a sports event it would be filmed in slow motion. The staff seems indifferent and never mentioned they were down to one vet until we inquired. People and their pets deserve more respect and consideration this place should be shut down till they straighten out their act. read more

Please avoid this vet at all costs. We brought in our dog because he had been attacked and bitten by another dog. They took him in and performed the surgery required. Afterwards they came out and told us what they did, and that he would be fine in a couple weeks. We paid the fee and made the follow up visits as required. About a week later we noticed his wounds seemed to get worse so we brought him in and all they told us it was dead skin falling off and it was normal. Then a couple days later we brought him in because it was getting worse and at this point they couldn't bill us anymore so they told us we need to take him to another vet. We called a day after out of desperation as he wasn't getting better and they told us that we could come in for a open wound surgery consultation. Ultimately our dog passed away due to the negligence of these people. Please do not go here, they only care about your money and not your pets. read more

I waited 5 hours before finally seeing a vet to get a urine sample and when the doctor called to let me know the results they left a message because I was working and he literally said his test was "boring". I'm not kidding that is what he said. No explanation about the results. When I called back to get more info I was told he would call me back and he never did. My puppy started having loose stools with some blood so I googled an emergency vet and NorthStar came up. I called and spoke with Priscilla. She told me if I wanted to I could bring the pup in. From her tone I wasn't sure how I was going to overall like the facility. She told me to call when I got there as you cannot go inside due to COVID. I called and I am not sure who picked up but I heard a sigh.. and then someone will be outside to see you shortly. This did not leave a good overall impression. The woman that came to my car I can't remember her name she had blonde hair was extremely nice and put me at ease and I felt comfortable giving her my pup to get vitals and she recommended a parvo test. When the vitals and testing were done she brought my pup out to me and told me as soon as the results were in she would come back out. Sure enough within 7 minutes she came out and told me my pup was negative for parvo and explained a few things it could be and that my pup was in que to see the vet. The vet called me and went over some things it could be and we discussed a game plan for treatment and asked to meet me in the lobby so she could listen to her heart and check a few other things. She explained to me what to do and assured me she was in overall good health. I am a first time pup mom so I was a little nervous. Based on the reviews I am not sure I would have chosen this place but minus some rude tone from the receptionists I was glad they were there when I needed them and that I went. Hopefully I wont have any more emergencies but if I do I will go to NorthStar with my sweet baby. read more

I am a young pet owner of my 4 month old kitten at the time who was having breathing issues. Me being paranoid immediately thought it was an emergency so I brought her to Northstar in Brick. After waiting for 2 hours in the waiting room we finally saw a doctor who I later found out completely misdiagosed my kitten and then continued to prescribe her 4 different medications that were not necessary. (also way too much medication for such a young kitten) This doctor said she had an upper respiratory infection when in fact she had nasopharyngeal polyps, a way bigger issue and diagnosis. Not to mention they also failed to tell me they were injecting her with a shot that they told me would help her breathing, but later to find out it was an anti-nausea medication. (my cat was not nauseous or throwing up) Lastly, they also cleaned her ears without informing me and charging me for it. In total I had to pay over $400 when the real issue was completely different than the doctor said. I will never be coming back here. I feel like they saw I was a young, scared, new pet owner and just completely scammed me. I was so upset when I went to a new vet and they told me that everything Northstar told me was incorrect. read more

i would give them 0 stars. for being an emergency vet they don't act like it. i was left waiting for hours while my dog was crying in pain in the waiting room. i took my dog there 2 days before because she was acting like she was having a stroke or severe allergic reaction, i wasn't sure. i was waiting for a few hours in the exam room only to leave with no answers on what was wrong with my dog. her symptoms showed up again and with a simple google search, it's lymes disease. her symptoms line up with all i've read and i mentioned lymes to the doctor when i was in the first time and he pretty much dismissed it and didn't offer a test. if you are having an emergency, i would avoid this place. it seems like they only have 1 doctor on at a time, so how does that make it emergency accessible? i paid nearly $600 to leave with no answers. read more

We took our dog Marley to this vet for a while in the last years of his life and never once had a problem with the experience. The day we took Marley to be euthanized, which is already a very emotional time, we had a very aggressive encounter with the front desk woman, Priscilla. We were texted by the vet due to COVID-19 to bring in Marley to front door after waiting some time in the back lot. Appalled by the insensitivity and rudeness from the woman who instead of looking into us walking in was just unaware about us not sure what to do being, being as we were texted to simply bring him in with no further direction. Joan stepped in to the disgusting interaction with acknowledgement and intelligence which was much more helpful than the uninterested other. Once finally in the room we were taken care of with compassion and set up in a very comfortable private room. All in all the experience was peaceful and easy. read more
