There is a first time for everything. This is the first time I have fired my dentist. Note: I recommend reading all the 1 star reviews, they are consistent with my review. No business is perfect, but when you have a cancerous culture that does not cherish the client relationship it shows. This is an example of just that, at least the front of house. The reality is the actual work of dentistry is fine in this establishment. It's the admin, front desk, customer service, lack of availability, and difficulty of being a client that leaves a lot to be had. Not to mention when or if you fire them how difficult they will be when it comes to moving your dental records to your next dentist. It was very frustrating to be a patient at times given that this is the way they choose to do business. My wife and I were patients since we moved to Austin in 2017. The quality of the dental work is fine. The front of office is a 1 out of 10 at its worst and a 5 out of 10 on average. I am sure the practice will have some response that will paint us as unreasonable clients, but here are my key issues: 1. If your teen has an appointment (simple cleaning) , they will not see them unless the parent is present, we had an issue where my wife was single parenting for the week while I was on a business trip and found out after she had dropped my son off for his appointment and took my other son to school that this was their policy. Fair enough, except for the fact that by the time my wife got back, 15 minutes late, they canceled his appointment, for a policy they enforced and communicated after the fact. The biggest issue was not the policy, but how the staff treated my wife through this situation, and the fact that when my wife alerted the dentist to the incident she sided with her staff and never got back to my wife regarding the incident. Not acceptable for any business owner. 2. My dentist (Dr Heggen) only works 2 days a week, so if you have any near term issues, IE major tooth pain, you may have to wait weeks , like 4 or 5 to get in to see the dentist, not great if you can't chew or have major tooth pain. In my situation, I had a filling put in in March by my dentist that was hurting for months that they tried to adjust and was still off, and I had major issues as the pain increased. I tried to schedule to have it looked at given they had done the work, however had major issues getting in to see my dentist given the lack of availability, regardless of the fact that I could only chew in one side of my mouth. Not great. 3. When you leave they will refuse to send your actual digital records to your new dentist , isn't it 2024????? This will cause your next dentist to either have them sent via snail mail or you will have to physically pick them up yourself. Also they will not release records to your new dentist, just to you. It's completely ridiculous. Also new dentist will have to more than likely do an entire set of new XRays since paper XRays are not as clear as the digital real ones. This was absurd, but not off brand for the behavior we experienced which caused us to leave. 4. Lastly, even after being a patient for 7 years they mispronounced my wife's name. A small issue but again consistently on brand for why this place is not great. A side note I went to my new dentist and had the opposite experience with front of house. Friendly, proactive, super nice, went out of their way to make things easy. Reminded me what really good service and a great client experience is supposed to be. read more

I've been going here for over a decade after neglecting my teeth for much of my youth. It took some time to get everything sorted but I am quite pleased with the results. Dr. Vo is wonderful, friendly, and very practical. When I needed consultation to get an implant she made the decision stress free. When I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed or a a root canal her referrals were spot on. I also look forward to my bi-annual teeth cleanings with Claudia the hygienist. She does a very through job and I'm smiling after. They also have excellent COVID protocols, if you are concerned about going to the dentist during these times. read more

I have been with the office for 13 plus years and love the dentist & hygienists. However, BEWARE the billing department is absolutely incompetent. I went to the dentist for a routine cleaning March 30. For whatever reason, the correct insurance company was not billed & now I have a tangled mess trying to straighten out the mess with the billing department. I used to refer people to this office, but never again will I go to this office nor will I send friends or family to this office. What a nightmare they caused in struggling to get the correct insurance company billed. I have received numerous denial letters from insurance companies Northwest Hills Smiles billed, but are not my insurance company. Many calls were made to get this straightened out, but it's now June and it is still a mess. If they can't get the billing right, well no thanks. To add salt to the wound, we are now being billed for $683 when we had coverage. This is ridiculous! BEWARE!!!! read more

I would love to have given the extra star however off late some specific members of their scheduling team and front desk people are not what how they used to cater to their customers. I have been with this practice for over 13 years only because Dr.Vo is awesome and do not want to switch from her . Couple of examples from recent times include scheduling with hygienist without making sure the dentist is available at same time , cancelling at last minute. Ahhhhh the Dentist. What an exciting and fulfilling experience.....so peaceful and full of joy. Yeah - - I know what you're thinking - - you dread the idea of going to the dentist, right? It's not fun and you probably think I'm on drugs. Nope, that's not the case, because if Dr. Vo was your Dentist then you'd actually look forward to the experience of having her work on your teeth. After cycling through 3 different dentists over the past 11yrs in Austin it was time to find someone new. They were all competent and okay but they didn't leave me with the desire to come back. Enter Yelp: Dr. Vo at Northwest Smiles popped up as one of the most reputable dentists around, so I called them up to schedule my initial visit, my first in nearly 3 years. I generally take good care of my teeth, although I could do better, and I rarely have cavities. On this visit Dr. Vo found 4 (FOUR?!?) cavities and also makes a recommendation for braces. Seriously? Our conversation went something like this: Dr. V: "you have 4 cavities" Me: "What? You're kidding!" Dr. V: "here, let me show you on the monitor" Me: "Ugh!" Dr. V: "and I recommend you get braces, and if you do then we should not do any work on 2 of the cavities as those teeth will likely be pulled, this will save you $" Me: "What?!? So I really need braces?" Dr. V: "Well, I'll be honest, if you were my husband then I would definitely make you get braces" Me: "Huh? Your husband? Well in that case can we go to Hawaii for our honeymoon?" Dr. V: "You're too late, I'm already married, but you should still get braces". Me: "So that's a no on Hawaii, and a yes on porcelain? Dr. V: "You're smart" Well - I haven't gotten braces just yet, but realizing how my flexible spending account deadline was coming up (and I had extra money) I recently called Dr. Vo back to see if she could work me into her schedule to fix the 4 cavities. Even though she was completely booked, she worked me in - - awesome! I was so impressed with my 2nd visit, how nice the staff was and mostly how efficient Dr. Vo worked to fix my teeth. She's on top of things and a perfectionist, I felt very secure and comfortable. Dr. Vo and her staff work well together as they had to accommodate the extra work. All that extra stress and yet I didn't feel a thing thanks to the Novocaine. Dr. Vo and her team is awesome, I have finally found my Dentist for life! Dr. Jaquelyn Vo is the best dentist I have ever encountered. I highly recommend her. When I was looking for a dentist I was calling around town and Dr. Vo was the only one that would do an exam and a cleaning in the same visit (most other places had to do it in two separate visits). It's only in my experience with Dr. Vo that I realized that my old dentist sucked. She is so friendly, talkative, knowledgeable and accommodating. When I had to get my cavities filled (sigh) she was so great with me and my fear of dentistry. She gave me noise canceling headphones so I couldn't hear the drilling.... informed me about ever step of the process..... and was really gentle. I hardly felt a thing..... I almost fell asleep at one point! An hour after she filled in the cavities my teeth felt great! They aren't sore or sensitive.... It's almost like I had nothing done at all! AMAZING! I saw Dr. Vo and the experience was wonderful from beginning to end. My last dentist treated my head like it was in the way of my teeth. Not only did everyone I interact with treatment me like a VIP, but they explained everything they were doing and why, and took care of everything I needed in one visit. They use things I have not had at other offices, like a thing they put in your mouth to let you rest your jaw while your mouth stays open for them. They also thoroughly explained to me why things were happening. What a short term fix would be and what a long term fix would be. They fixed a chipped tooth and two broken fillings and they were so fast, only numbed me where they needed (which doesn't sound like a big thing until a dentist numbs half your face including your eye lid for one bottom filling), and we so friendly. I will definitely be back and recommend them to everyone. read more

Once again, Dr. Vo and her great team came to my rescue. Last night I chipped a top front tooth so badly that I hoped it could be repaired. Dr. Vo got me in at 11AM and in 30 minutes my tooth was fully restored with a resin that looks and feels like the original enamel. She even smoothed every surface so that the tooth feels better on the tongue than it did before it was chipped. Thanks to their taking my insurance, everything was completely covered without a co-pay, but the most important thing is that Dr. Vo took great care of me, with her usual kind and pleasant manner, and great support staff. Yeah, the customer service here is terrible - I am not sure how you even get past that to LIKE the dentist to begin with. First, I emailed because they were closed and asked if I could set up an appointment. NO RESPONSE. I mean if you can't setup an appointment by email fine, but at least reply and tell me to call. Then I called, and they won't set the appointment because I didn't have my insurance card on hand. I verified ahead of time they are in my network and know who my insurer is, but they refused to even book a time and let me call back in a few hours once I could get my card. That's ridiculous. I mean what if I didn't have insurance and wanted to pay directly, you would book me then but not if I have insurance, verified its in your network and will call back with the exact details? Obviously, this place doesn't care about going the extra mile to make sure patients are happy. read more

Dr. Atassi is a wonderful dentist with a cheery bedside manner. She's always friendly and thorough, and she makes every effort to make you comfortable. The clinic itself is in a lovely area with large windows that face the woods. I've twice seen deer walking around and feeding on the plants out there. I've been coming here for a few years for cleanings and checkups. My hygienist, Claudia, always does a great job with my cleanings and the Dr.s are fantastic. Last night I chipped a molar and so I made an appointment first thing in the morning. Dr Atassi was able to see me the same day and get me fitted for a crown. She has a gentle touch and her assistant, Essie made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Never thought I'd be leaving a great review for a dentist as it's not my favorite place to go but they have always been wonderful to see. I'd definitely recommend giving them a call. read more

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with a crown placement at this office. I want others to be aware and advise to get a second opinion if something doesn't seem right. 4 years ago I had a molar crown performed here. They couldn't get the shape and fit right not once but twice. So the crown had to get remade twice. After that poor experience I switched dental providers. My new dentist informed me that the crown is not seated correctly and advised me to get it redone before it does more damage (cavity or breaks etc). I was planning to do just that, but before I could the crown fell off and cracked at the base, where it meets the gum line. The crown cannot be reused and was defective in the first place so my new dentist does not advise reusing it anyway. Northwest Hills will not do anything to assist me in replacing it as their warranty policy is for 1 year only. My insurance stated the standard warranty is 5 years, not 1 year but it's ultimately up to the provider, and my insurance als won't provide any coverage until after 5 years because of this. So now I'm looking at $1,400 out of pocket, on top of the $618 I paid Northwest Hills 4 years ago, to fix their bang-up job of dental work. It's very disheartening to say the least. Crowns are a basic procedure and should last 20 years or longer:(. Be your own advocate, trust your instincts, and act sooner rather than later. Learn from my mistake. **In response to my initial post, I was contacted by Northwest Hills Smiles to clear up the confusion. They are absolutely willing to help me, beginning with an initial appointment to determine the quality of the crown and possible no charge replacement. I truly appreciate the response from their office. I understand these things happen and am really happy they're willing to help investigate and reach a solution. Thank you Northwest Hills Smiles! I don't have insurance. I haven't for years - so you can bet that when I have to go to the dentist, it's because it's bad. It was. I had a tooth that had broken so much that the nerve was exposed and it was giving me pain for a while. So, I asked around on Yelp and I got a few recommendations for this place. Last week, I went in for an x-ray and to hopefully get it pulled. Unfortunately, they couldn't pull it that day, as I had an abscess in the tooth (I knew that, sadly). They insisted on a week's worth of antibiotics and some awesome pain pills. The estimate on the procedure was $225! Oh man, that's so much money, but you know, you have to do what you have to do. So, I go in there today to finally get it taken care of. I don't mind dentists, but I've had some that weren't so great and there was pain (during a root canal, yeeouch!) and not a lot of bedside manner. Dr. Atassi was so sweet and personable, and tried to put me at ease, even when my blood pressure was a bit high and they weren't sure if they could do the tooth today. We waited a little while and the pressure went down - and on to the novicane. Oh my god. If you have ever had novicane shot into the roof of your mouth, then you know. That was some of the worst sharp shooting pain I have ever felt, but Dr. Atassi not only warned me about it before hand and even told me it would be bad, but she apologized the entire time she was injecting it. Thankfully, she only had to do it there once, but she wanted to make sure I felt no pain at all while getting the tooth pulled, with resulted in her injecting me in 4 different spots with novicane. I appreciated this, as I am not a big fan of pain, and my mouth was pretty numb from the topical numbing agent. When she made absolutely sure I could feel nothing, she pulled the tooth. Having a tooth pulled out of your face is one of the weirdest sensations ever. I had no pain, whatsoever, but I my whole body was like "Hey, wa, what are you doing? That's not supposed to happen!" But thankfully, it was a lot easier than she expected and the tooth was gone in a matter of minutes. She was very sweet and covered all aspects of the healing and what to eat, what not to eat, etc etc. Her staff were great and even ran to get me a little tooth shaped box for my tooth. (I wanted to keep it.) I also love the fact that the chairs look out into a large window that lets you see the back area of the office, which is quite wooded and has all sorts of critters running around. I love that, it was so much more calming than white walls and posters. In the end, it was only $130! I'm so happy that my tooth cooperated and she charged me way less than I was expecting. All in all, it was a very positive experience. I will be back when I need to get some work done again. read more

DO NOT GO TO NW HILLS SMILES!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought this place would be professional and friendly- it is NOT. I had an appt to get a cavity fixed and they promptly took me to the back and sat me down, numbed my mouth and I waited for 1 1/2 hrs with no work done. When I asked when Dr Atassi would be able to see me, she said it would be another 45 mins. This was absolutely unacceptable, so I left. The Dr. said the front desk had over booked her and the front desk said the Dr was running behind.. BLAME GAME!! The Dr did call me to apologize, but laughed about it (like it was no big deal) and did not offer any kind of compensation. When I called to reschedule my appt, somehow the lines got crossed and someone picked up the phone and all I heard her saying was how mad she was that she had to work late. When she (Dr Vo) realized I was on the phone, she seemed shocked and quickly scheduled my appt... OH, poor Dr Vo.. you had to work late! Then I get a call from the office that I need to see a specialist b/c I may not need just a cavity fill- but a root canal. They referred me to another dentist as they don't even do root canal's in house. Next thing I know- I get a letter via UPS that states they will no longer offer their services to me and they can't meet my "expectations".. REALLY- expecting them to not have me wait for over 2 hours for an appt I had scheduled! I repeat- I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE!!!!!!!! Clearly the dentists there do not care about their patients otherwise, they would not have been so quick to send me a letter- WHO DOES THAT! Seems to me like they were embarrassed by their actions and instead of owning up to them, they just "let" the patient go. read more

Thanks to Cody for posting a review of Dr. Vo. She happened to be on my dental plan and I made the appointment based on what I read here. Like many young folks, I hadn't been to a dentist in 3 years due to lack of insurance. Also, I'm dento-phobic, so I wasn't looking forward to this visit. So I popped a Xanex before heading off to the office, like you do. It wasn't really necessary. First, this dentist's office is surprisingly non-clinical looking, with big, cushy couches and huge windows. In fact, from my chair in the exam room, I could look out a hugh floor-to-ceiling window onto a little garden area. Ah. The cleaning was no more or less unpleasant than any other dentist I've been to, but the fact that a dental-phobe like me didn't gag or hyperventilate at any point says something. As for Dr. Vo, she's a petite woman who looks about 30 and is by far the least terrifying dental professional I've ever encountered. Very nice and honest with you and talks to you like a real person. Also, comfortingly, I feel like I could probably take her down if she tried anything funny. Highly recommended. read more

I heart Dr. Vo. When she first looked in my mouth during my initial consultation she exclaimed "Oh this wisdom tooth is so cute...it's like a little pearl!". Now the average person probably would have just ignored a comment like that. But for someone like me who appreciates the cuteness in all things random, I really wanted to ask if someone could pleeeease take a picture of the tooth/pearl, pearl/tooth with my cell phone? Pretty please?? For my second visit, I had to have some cavities filled and an extraction done. And because of a bad experience with a previous dentist a few years ago, I was being a chicken about some of the procedures. However, Dr. Vo and the rest of the staff were great and didn't make me feel like a wuss at all. They were all very kind and gentle and Dr. Vo even apologized when she gave me a couple of the shots and warned me before she gave me the extra painful ones. From time to time she also explained what she was doing along the way and it helped to ease the stress to know what to expect. And the topper? When I heard the hygienist during my second visit exclaim, "That tooth is so tiny!" and Dr. Vo commented in agreement. read more

I'm very disappointed with this business. I went to them in 2010 for a comprehensive exam and was told my Aetna insurance would cover it. In addition they did x-rays that were said to be covered but were not. I checked out with the office manager, Brenda, who said I owed nothing at the time. A month later I received a bill in the mail for $73. They sent it to a collection agency after a while. Now I'm being harassed by the Credit Bureau regarding this phony bill. More like Northwest Hills Frownies. I'd also like to add that Dr. Atassi was a very nice lady but didn't do anything for me. She told me I had no cavities when in fact I knew I had at least one. I went to another dentist a few months later to find out I had 3 cavities. This was really puzzling to me. Moral of the story: These people are liars and they need to do a more thorough exam. read more

I'm a big scardy cat. I am more terrified of the dentist than the doctor. That basically means I haven't been to a dentist in 4 years. Yes I know, bad bad girl. Finally after the joys of being added to my husband's dental plan, I decided to find a dentist, make friends and get some serious work done. Long story short....I need a lot of painful procedures done. Wisdom teeth extractions, root canals and some other scary shit. But I am happy I found the best place to get this completed. I honestly feel good here. It's like the entire staff and building gives off this happy, good vibe. Dr. Atassi is a wonderfully nice person. She explained all my procedures and kept me smiling. The dental hygenist put me at ease with her funny stories about her son. Plus the desk staff were incredibly kind and efficient. Seriously this place is surrounded by good karma. Go here. I'm a new patient. When I called for a cleaning, they told me I had to schedule a pre-appointment consultation before I could make an appointment for a cleaning. This is thorough, but seeing as I have to take time off work, it was really inconvenient to have to come in twice just for a cleaning. My appointment was for 2:30, they didn't call me in until after 3:00. I really hate waiting for appointments; what's the point of making an appointment if they won't see me until 30 minutes later? The staff was friendly, but seemed inefficient. I absolutely HATE waiting. I won't be back after this cleaning. read more

Dr. Vo and her staff are just amazing. I chose them for myself and my husband because he hasn't been to the dentist much and has a fear of needles. My mom was a dental hygenist, so I don't have a fear of dentists - but it does help me know a good dentists office when I see one. Everyone on staff makes a concerted effort to stay on time and to keep patients comfortable. I have had to have a few fillings and my husband had a cap put on one tooth and we both had very positive experiences. The office is very nice as well, with each dental station looking out into a different wooded or landscaped area. It's all very relaxing. I also appreciate that I've never been pushed to have a service I didn't need or that was cosmetic, such as teeth whitening. Sure, they can provide this service, but I never feel like they are trying to sell me anything other than a healthy smile. read more

I'm not sure what I can say about Northwest Hills Smiles that hasn't already been said; plus, I kind of want them to stop taking new patients, so I can get a good time instead of jockeying for the best position. But that would be greedy and un-Yelp like of me. So, with that in mind, let's talk about going to to the dentist. Generally, it sucks -- and not something good, like candy or caramel corn, but bad icky stuff, like snow-covered rust or batteries. I first heard about Drs. Vo and Atassi from a former co-worker of mine, and started going to them when they were actually in - wait for it - Northwest Hills! (they're now off 360, behind the Arboretum). By every metric one would judge a dental experience, these ladies are tops: -- Tami the hygienist is awesome; if you can believe it, I recently re-scheduled an appointment because she was out sick and I didn't want to see anyone else. She's definitely a talker, which I like; it keeps my mind off the fact that she's scrapping the inside of my mouth with an upscale fishhook. -- Tami always urges me to floss and buy a better (read: electronic) toothbrush; but when I come back six months later and it's obvious that I haven't, she doesn't shun me. -- The front desk staff is awesome -- they call me by name, remember the important personal stuff (like my wedding) and always, always seem genuinely excited to see you. Nancy just exudes this air of "Hey there - I'm really happy you're here." I work at a desk all day, same as her, and as much as I love my job, I can't fathom having a smile on my face and in my voice from dawn til dusk. But whether I've been in at 7:30a or 3:30p, Nancy is all smiles. -- Drs. Vo and Atassi have different styles; I'd say Vo is a bit more direct, while Atassi will give you a little sweet talk and sugar-coating, but both of them are immensely competent with a great seat-side manner. I've had extensive experience with both -- I saw Atassi for a bit while Vo was out on maternity leave, I believe. Northwest Hills Smiles is in the business of doing something that most people don't like; who out there gets jazzed about going to the dentist? But they've made it their job to treat you with kid gloves without being condescending, and they do a brilliant job. When I moved back to Austin in 2009, I left a wonderful dentist behind, and I was sad. I really didn't think I'd get another bite at that proverbial apple (no pun intended). But for as long as I'm in Austin, I'll make sure my teeth (along with my husband's and now, my mom's!) are all getting their gleam from Northwest Hills. I'd even be willing to follow them to Hutto or Dripping Springs. If that ain't love, I don't know what is. read more

My husband and I have lived in Austin for 5 years and Dr. Vo is the 3rd dentist we've seen and I am happy to report we've finally found our dentist for life (I pray she doesn't leave us). First it should be said that my husband needs A LOT of work. Like thousands of dollars worth of work. He's had dental problems all his life and due to this has high anxiety when it comes to dentists. When I first called Dr. Vo's office I got a wonderful woman on the phone. I explained his situation and our misery at the last dentists office (upon hearing who they were she immediately understood our pain). We had several dental insurance options and she took the time to explain each one and how it would work for or against us. I believe our first conversation lasted somewhere around 15 minutes - she was in absolutely NO hurry. I sent my husband first, as he's the one with issues. He came back raving about how wonderful Dr. Vo was, how he was confident about moving forward, the office was clean and tranquil and he was in no pain. Upon hearing that I booked an appointment for me and my 3 yo daughter. The same women answered the phone and scheduled our appointment together, understanding it was my daughters first trip to the dentist. And here is where Dr. Vo and staff really shined bright. My daughter and I went in and were immediately seen. Dr. Vo and her assistant were sweet, funny and totally kid-friendly. Before my daughter had been screaming about going to the dentist, but they had her talking, laughing and smiling - and in no time she had clean and sparkly teeth. Next it was my turn. The assistant kept my daughter entertained while running my x-rays and then Dr. Vo came in to explain the work that needed to be done while the assistant checked on what insurance would cover. Super efficient!!! They had scheduled a cleaning for me as well during that visit and while I doubted that was possible with my feisty toddler with me - they set up a place for her to play on the floor (on a blanket!) while the hygienist went to town. An hour later mother and daughter left happy with shiny, clean teeth. Really, I can't say enough good things about this place. Every person I've come in contact with is happy, attentive, gentle and helpful. And in a dentist's office that is a mighty rare thing. read more

After going a few times, I noticed that the staff is always friendly and seem to be having a great time working with one another. I think the atmosphere brings a level of comfort ever time I visit. If you just want to know what to expect, feel free to skip down below to my number list of qualities of this location. The next few paragraphs are just explaining why I really love this place. It wasn't until I had an urgent need to get a crown reset that I realized why this place is truly a 5 star location. Dr. Atassi went out of her way to help me get a next to impossible crown fitting done before I had move out of Austin. She spent time off the clock getting in contact with me and her staff did a wonderful job fitting me into her packed schedule. All of this even though they knew I would not be a long-term customer after I moved. They completely went out of their way to make sure that my tooth would survive and squeezed me in before I had to leave. Finding a good dentist is hard, but finding a great dentist along with a 5 star support team is next to impossible. I'm sad that I have to hunt for a new dentist after I leave Austin, but to all of you just moving here or still on the hunt for a great dentist, look no further. Seriously. Things you will get with Dr. Atassi and Northwest Hills Smiles: 1. Kind, courteous, and caring staff, always! 2. A variety of options on procedures 3. Great referrals to specialists 4. No WTF bills later, the front desk always calls your insurance and checks the amount of coverage you have remaining and will clearly explain that in your bill. 5. Let me just say . . . I hate and have hated going to the dentist for years . . . my entire life. Really - who is a good flosser? I've been without insurance for a few years, so I held back on going to the dentist too. I've been faithful to my Sonicare toothbrush though. I'm actually comforted in dental history forms when they ask on a scale of 1-10 how terrified you are of dentists. I have them at 9 - a mark below terrorists. Dr. Vo and Essi were great. They were really welcoming. They told me everything they were doing and they were positive through out. No scolding for not being on top of getting cleaned when I was back in school. No scolding about a tooth that has started to move. You know when they poke at all your gums and say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5? Of all my years, I never knew what that meant, but Essi told me beforehand. Anyways, in the end, Dr. Vo told me that things looked alright - we credited my mom for making sure that I drank milk a lot as a kid. I'm actually looking forward to my next appointment. Did I mention that I was asked to fork over extra money for a bunch of additional treatments? Yes, this dentist is not a used car salesman either. ___ It was cool hearing how all the dentists are parents as well, so each of them has an additional weekday off so they can spend time with their family. I like people that understand that there is more to life than their job. I can't believe I'm saying it, but I think I have a dentist I could recommend to others. read more

I'm years late in posting this update, but it needs to be done. I saw another dentist six months after seeing Dr. Vo because one of the fillings I had done at her office was already discoloring along the edges, and another completely fell out after about 8 months. I had to have one of the fillings redone, and the other tooth had to be capped. I even got a third opinion and all subsequent dentists agreed that the fillings had been improperly placed the first time. Oy vey. I'm sure Dr. Vo would have probably fixed my fillings had I gone back to make her aware of the issues (she really does seem like a reasonable person whom I just happened to catch on a really bad day), but I had such a bad experience here that sucking up the cost to pay for the repairs was preferable to going back. read more

As a kid and teen, I had *a lot* of dental type work done. I went to the orthodontist-- where I had braces after sleeping in headgear for a while. I had the little device where you turn a key to expand your upper jaw. I had jaw surgery where they cut a piece out of my jaw and reattached it with metal plates and screws... All this really really turned me off dentists and the like. I hate going and I can get really defensive about people telling me that things are wrong. This is just a long way of saying how how nice the staff at Northwest Hills Smiles is! It had prolly been a couple years since I'd gone to the dentist (for the reasons combined above combined with the crippling ennui that is graduate school). Instead of being upset and defensive, I was actually apologizing for slacking on regular appointments. They were so incredibly sweet and upbeat. Yes, there were some things I could work on; but they told me in a way that wasn't belittling in the least and was actually encouraging. Yay! I've been going here for almost two years based on the excellent Yelp reviews. After yesterday's visit, I realized I had never done my own review of these dentists, so here goes. As always, my experience with both the hygenist and the dentists (Dr. Vo yesterday) were impeccable. The care is gentle, compassionate, and thorough. I've never received an oral hygeine lecture nor have they ever tried selling me on additional procedures. In fact, their care is so good that they work with my extreme gag reflex by doing panoramic X-rays instead of the standard X-rays. The only thing that held them back from the fifth star was a 30 minute wait yesterday post-cleaning for Dr. Vo to come by to do a quick exam. This is very unusual for them and I fully expect to give a five star review next visit. read more

Who would have thought I'd enjoy going to the dentist? Not I! I love love NW Smiles. I feel welcome from the moment I walk through the door - the smiling receptionists and tastefully decorated interior add to the sense that I've come to the right place. It has been a pain to find a dentist that I actually like in Austin. I have found some that are tolerable, but when our insurance changed I found Northwest Hills Smiles. Thank God. Personable and incredibly helpful, no more cattle call for dental care. Dr. Atasi is super nice and encouraging. She caught a infection early on at the base of an old root canal and sent me to an endodontist that confirmed the problem. No other dentist I've been to has paid attention to the base of non existent roots of my teeth before! So glad to have finally found MY dentist in the Austin area. read more

tl;dr --- 10/10; would dentist here again. To start off, my appointment was for 2:30p originally, but they were able to get me in a little earlier (1:30p) so that I could have enough time to make a 5:00 appointment downtown. When I got there, I didn't have to wait one minute. That's right: no waiting in the waiting room. I was immediately taken to the back, was seated in a MASSAGE CHAIR, and was setup with some delightfully red numbing agent. They even had a nice, soft blanket for me :-) Then came the *real* pain killers -- in the form of a very large needle. Fortunately, they had made me feel very comfortable with the situation and delivered on a quick and (99%) painless experience. While the shots were being administered, the assistant was massaging my shoulder/neck to distract my mind -- way awesome. During the procedure (4 fillings), the doctor & her assistant were having light conversation. You could really tell that they cared for one another and genuinely liked working together. All-in-all, the best dental experience of my life. read more

Drs. Vo and Atassi are really nice folks! The office staff is very nice too. The prices are very reasonable. The office is very nice, clean, and current. And they have Friday hours!!! I find it very strange and arrogant that Austin dentists do not have Friday hours. They would never make it in the bigger cities. I liked Dr. Jacqueline Vo so much that I sent my wife and daughter to her. She really does care. I hope she doesn't lose that trait as she progresses in her career. read more

I've been visiting my wonderful hygienist Tami every 6 months since I even started seeing one, long before Dr. Vo bought the practice actually. I won't gush too much, but I will say that I almost look forward to my cleanings - as strange as that sounds. While I haven't gone through any major crisis with them, I have to at least partially attribute my lack of decay/fillings to their thoroughness. Everyone in the office is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and I honestly couldn't think of a single complaint. read more
