My family has dined at Bob Chinn's twice in the past two weeks, and Ashley was our server on both occasions. After our first visit, I shared our positive experience with a manager, but after our most recent visit, I felt Ashley deserved to be recognized again for the exceptional service she consistently provides. We visited your restaurant this past Friday after making the heartbreaking decision to put our beloved dog down. It was an incredibly difficult day, and we were all searching for something that might bring us a little comfort. Everyone agreed that Bob Chinn's was exactly what we needed. When we sat down and realized Ashley would be our server again, we were absolutely thrilled. She is attentive, knowledgeable, and offers excellent recommendations from the menu. She is professional while also being warm, personable, and genuinely fun, creating an atmosphere that makes every guest feel welcome. Something I was surprised by was the catfish. Holy crap. So much flavor and loved that it came with rice and potatoes. Get it. Just get it. The employees were efficient and helpful. If I'm in Chicago, I'll have to go back. Im dreaming of the fried calamari and shrimp combo and that catfish.

My wife and I were seated immediately. The server quickly brought us water and garlic bread. I really like that they give you 5 fairly big pieces of garlic bread for only two people. Nice touch. We were not in a hurry and couldn't decide what we wanted so we started with the calamari salad. $29, but it's huge and chock full of those calamari guys. Lettuce is always crisp and has everything I like in it (olives, eggs, carrots, artichoke, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and romaine lettuce). We were almost full just from the salad alone. I ordered a grouper sandwich (not fried), and my lovely wife ordered the Scottish salmon plate, which comes with potatoes and grilled vegetables. My sandwich came with coleslaw and fresh cut fries. They switched to fresh cut since my last visit, and this was an upgrade. My sandwich was great, and huge too. Could not finish it. Wife's meal was a humongous slab of salmon. The veggies now come on a smaller plate, but that's okay, given the size of the fish. Service was a tad slow, but like I said, we weren't in any hurry. Total tab was $100, with tax and that pesky 3% service fee. I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. It's not a place I can go every week, but when I can splurge, and have a taste for fresh seafood, this is the best around.

We headed there for Happy Hour, which runs from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM and is definitely on the short side! We actually thought we'd be the only "early birders," but the bar area filled up surprisingly fast, so clearly this happy hour is popular with the locals. Sophia offers a fantastic $10 Happy Hour menu featuring cocktails, beer, wine, and five appetizers. Between the two of us, we ordered four of the five appetizers offered, and honestly, every single one was a hit. The Potato Croquettes were incredibly light and fluffy, the Ahi Tuna Crisp was absolutely delicious, and the Nashville Chicken Bites packed great flavor. The Meatball Sliders were another standout -- flavorful and juicy, and actually held together instead of falling apart after the first bite! To make the evening even more special, the bartender heard we were celebrating our anniversary and surprised us by comping a dessert: the Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding. Absolutely delicious and the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Even better, our total bill came in under $100! Our favorite dish is the tomahawk steaks, and we prefer to sit in the round booths to easily talk to everyone. I made the reservations weeks in advance for a special occasion, booking a table for three. Upon our arrival, the gentleman at the front desk had us seated at a middle table between the bar and the high-traffic area of the bathrooms and waiting staff, despite my request for a round booth. I was told that the round booths were unavailable and the booths along the walls were reserved for larger groups. Ironically, we noticed that the booths were filled with parties of two and three throughout the evening, contrary to what we had been told. Our waiter was terrific, as usual, and the food was very good overall. However, the tomahawk steaks were disappointing. We ordered them cooked medium, but they arrived overcooked on the outside and raw in the middle, which was extremely underwhelming. We chose not to address this with our waiter, as he was quite busy, and I didn't want to spoil the mood of our special occasion. Overall, while the service and the atmosphere remain top-notch, the inconsistency with our seating request and the preparation of the tomahawk steaks left us feeling less than satisfied.

We had reservations for 9pm and were able to be seated straight away. We arrived to find the address brought us to a barber shop. Fortunately, my husband had done some research and knew the drill--we made our way to a organ against a brick looking wall. On top of the organ was a bell--we rang the bell and shortly after the brick wall swung open and a woman came out to greet us. She had us play a tune on the organ and then brought us back into the speakeasy. The vibes are pitch perfect. Dimly lit with candles on tables and artful films playing on screens. We loved it. We were greeted straight away and brought water. You can also get a full meal here which we did not know but noted for our next visit. They had a special Valentine's menu as well as their regular cocktail menu. For my first cocktail, I got the paper plane which was light, lemony, and lovely with the adorable touch of a small paper plane pinned to the cocktail with a clothespin. For my second, I got one of their Valentine's specials which was essentially a Boulevardier made with a small float of mezcal on top. What an amazing addition to this classic cocktail! Truly, gave it added dimension, depth, and smoky flavor. I loved it. We also enjoyed their Valentine's dessert special, which was princess cake. It was a lovely blend of tart raspberry and warm almond--we loved it! The service was lovely throughout our experience. Get to it!
