Just wanted to take the time to leave a quick review. I've been to this location maybe 10-15 times. As far as I remember, they always have what I'm looking for. Maybe once they did not have what I needed. The customer service is some of the friendliest I've ever encountered. They have always been very helpful, polite, and friendly. I will definitely continue to go here for a quick purchase when needed. I definitely trust this place because of the staff. I don't know any of them personally but I do know it's always a surprisingly pleasant experience because I cherish customer service. I've even returned items on separate occasions for a full refund without any problems. I do know every situation and transaction is unique. I haven't had any bad experiences here. This used to be an excellent hardware store but in recent years the customer service has badly deteriorated. Most of the time I wind up leaving and going to Home Depot. I wanted some primer with color in it. The clerk insisted I didn't want what I wanted. Went to Home Depot. Recently I went in to buy a hose Bibb. The kid working there had no idea what it was even when I called it a garden faucet. Went to Home Depot. Today as I walked in I said hello to two women sorting stuff at the counter. Came here to browse the grilling items they have. They don't have a huge selection, I grabbed one thing because it looked like it was a good deal. Once I get the register the item scanned for $40. I inform the cashier of the price I seen on the shelf which was $4.99. The cashier says you better go back and check. The items need to match the bar code and item number for you to get that price. I'm like? I have to check? Sounds like you need to get better customer service skills. She then starts rambling about how when she goes to store she checks that the barcode matches the price tag. If you can't even do it at this store what makes me think you'll be doing this at any other store. Anyways stay away, the prices aren't clear and they won't honor the price due to it being stocked in the wrong place or even give you an apology. First review I've done in a while now... But this place deserves that honor... My Xbox360 recently died on me, so I took it upon myself to fix it. After finding out what I needed to get I set off to Home Depot, where after a good 10 minutes I couldn't find what I needed; so I went up to someone and asked specifically for M5 Washers in both steel and nylon. The dude pointed me in the right direction but didn't bother showing me exactly where they were. After I found it, they were sold out. On my way home I stopped by True Value Hardware. I step in, I'm greeted happily, asked what I need, they lead me to where the metric and nylon washers are. I pay, and I am a happy camper. A week later I'm fixing someone else's Xbox, and I go right back to True Value, but this time they're sold out of the washers I need. Once my husband and I were fixing our sagging platform bed and needed a specific wood screw. During Covid the line at Home Depot was out the door, and Lowe's didn't have it. As other reviewers mentioned, this place has really friendly--and just as important, helpful--customer service. I am sure that they won't be able to answer all of your questions, but they are more knowledgeable here than at the big box stores. Due to their smaller size, their selection is a little bit limited, but I am actually pretty surprised that they seem to have most everything you would need to get the job done. They don't seem to carry construction materials (lumber, pipe, etc.), or at least not in great quantities. On the other hand, this is a great place to go to pick up something you forgot to buy on a trip to the big box stores. Also, they will carry some things that are not practical for the big box to carry. Mostly, I like this store for these main reasons: 1. Informed, friendly, and helpful staff. 2. Small size makes shopping quick. You don't waste time walking around looking for stuff as much as you would elsewhere. 3. Local to my house, and closer than any big box place. 4. Generally reasonable prices. 5. Selection is decent considering smaller size. 6. Very willing to order something that they don't have in stock for you. People - Support your local hardware stores!!! Trust me when I say you can't beat the customer service. I went into a True Value store to purchase a toolbox for a friend's birthday. The guy there greeted me with a smile, asked me what I needed and led me to the toolbox area. Because I didn't know much about toolboxes (and I guess there are different toolboxes for different things), he asked me a few questions, and it turns out I was looking for a tackle box. Who knew? This is the second True Value store I've been to for unrelated reason, and the people at the other store were just as helpful. In fact they had items that the huge mega stores didn't have. I should have written this years ago. This is the hardware store that old time Norwalk folks will recognize as Harold & Chucks. It was and is the friendliest hardware store I've ever been in. I went there today to find a new hose end with just the broken piece in my pocket. A young man (I found out was in the Marines) saw me park on Rosecrans and even greeted me at the door! Where do you get that kind of service anywhere? I showed him my broken piece and he took me right to the spot. He was a little frustrated because they are doing some remodeling in there and things weren't hanging quite where he had memorized but in less than 90 seconds I had the parts I needed. I'm sure at one of the big box stores it would have taken me 9 minutes just find the aisle the parts were in much less a friendly employee picking out the proper parts for me. That is just one example of customer service there. I've been there many times and it is always the same. I still call it Harold & Chucks but it is Tru-Value now.
