Nosh has been one of my favorite restaurants in Portland since the doors opened. Having moving to Florida last October and coming back to Maine for a short visit this week, I visited Nosh for the first time in almost a year a few days ago. I can't describe my happiness walking in the door. I miss this damn city's restaurant scene so much. Anyways, onward to talking of the restaurant itself. Best fries ever. Ever. I already knew they were but I am glad to see nothing has changed. They are so flavorful and crispy and perfect. I got sea salt and pepper fries, as I always used to. I've had the vinegar ones, which I like, but sometimes are just too intense. The buffalo ones are awesome and I don't eat bacon so I can't comment on those. I don't know why people bother asking me if I want to share an order, because I don't. I almost want to eat two orders myself. Anyways, sauces and condiments are one of the only reasons I breathe. I got chipotle mayo, sriracha mayo, and blue cheese. All were incredible. They really have the best sauces. RIP tobasco honey mayo. I then got the Ratatouille Local One sandwich which was on special. So flippin good. It had grilled and marinated zucchini, squash, eggplant, sweet onions, roasted garlic, pesto, feta, arugula and romesco sauce on ciabatta bread. The bread was fabulous. The sandwich was fabulous. I was so happy to be back. My brother got quite an intense burger, with the buns consisting of fried mac and cheese patties. I have not ever seen anything like it. This place is truly unique and delicious. Their cocktail list is pretty great too. They make delicious drinks. I had a cucumber gimlet with Hendricks gin. Loved it. Was perfect. And it came in a pint glass. That's what I'm talking about. I feel sad for anyone who doesn't understand how good this place is. I want to go here 17 more times before I leave in 3 days, but I just don't think that is possible. read more

Despite the rumors, this restaurant does not have bison burgers. This is a great restaurant if you are hungry and want a satisfying meal, but it is honestly not a place I would ever go out of my way to visit. The sweet and spicy bacon cheeseburger is a solid choice. The reason for the average review is the place is overpriced. The fries also have to be ordered separately from the burgers/sandwiches. The interior of Nosh is very welcome and it's a great ambiance for groups. Overall the restaurant has good food and a good vibe, but in a competitive market like Portland you need both taste and value. read more

Excellent burger, The brioche bun was okay, but the burger meat was extremely flavorful. Next time I'd get a double. A single just didn't have enough meat for my taste. The "Bacon Dust Fries" were also very good. The place was extremely noisy and the seating was cramped. I can't speak for the food but the drinks were very good. I came here while I was waiting to get in next door at taco Escobarr. It was 9:42pm and Nosh closes at 10pm. I was surprised they served us being so close to closing. They were very welcoming and our bartender immediately struck up conversation with us. I ordered a gin & tonic and my boyfriend ordered a sugar free old fashion, both were great. I recommend checking this place out. read more

Honestly loved this place before I moved to Dallas. Came back went couple weekends ago. Waited Outside 45mins freezing cold. Excited to go again sit down order. Guy waiter was beyond rude go girl in our party. Claimed she wasn't being served for being loud. When she has 2 beers before we went out downtown? N nosh was the first stop. Call me a purist, but the pork and beef patties are a bit confusing at the first bite. I guess I didn't read up before coming here that it was a blended burger, hey sometimes it works and it looks like it works for many, but not me. I just like a good fresh burger with interesting toppings. Bacon dusted fries - I am amazed how good those are! We had to order another batch of them. Many of their dressed up fries are true to flavor, we also got the malt vinegar, which if you are a fan of, would be excellent choices as well. Nice atmosphere a mix of trendy bar and upscale burger restaurant. I wouldn't mind coming back here again for some beer, and maybe some other non-burger items. read more

We visited Portland for an overnight and we were looking for a lunch spot. We came across Nosh & decided to try it out. We ate at the bar and the bartender, who was super friendly & awesome all around, quickly greeted us and provided us with menus. I decided on the cheeseburger with sea salt & pepper fries. My boyfriend went with the sweet + spicy bacon cheeseburger. He also had the same fries. Hands down the BEST burger and fries we've ever had. I could eat that meal weekly. Went here in the middle of the night because I was starving after not eating at a conference. They had vegan burgers and I was not disappointed. They actually had a lot of amazing options for everything from food to drinks and locally seemed to be one of the few places open. The place is pretty cool with an open concept and sports tv kinda vibe mixed with the eclecticism that is Portland in general. I would go regularly if I lived in the area. Thanks to a fellow Yelper's recommend, we tried these unique, sticky, flavor-packed spuds and were blown away by taste and texture. Greasy good, boardwalk-style, fat fries dusted generously with whatever magic mojo is concocted behind the open kitchen. Comfy atmosphere, downtown location, and plates going by me with some good-looking grub, creatively plated. While $10 is a lot for the burger size, the $6 fries were the toast of the takeaway. Nosh is one of those places that you can always count on to have a good meal. I have tried their Big Mac burger, slab burger, regular burger and have yet to be disappointed. Their burgers are simply delicious. Nosh also has some excellent French fries..... from Parmesan to bacon dusted to buffalo, these fries are very tasty. They also have some interesting sauces, however limit you to the quantity that you are able to chose to have with your meal..... which makes no sense to me!!! Nosh has a great location, very creative food, great drinks and a sweet bar. Seemingly familiar food like burgers get a twist - like on the Mac and Stack, in which the "bun" is actually two slabs of breaded, flavor-filled grilled mac and cheese. And it is AMAZING. I had the grilled mac and cheese topped with Fritos and it was so rich and delicious it was brilliant. And of course the bacon-dusted fries were out of this world. Also, the beer selection was all, as in 100%, beers I'd never heard of. So if you like local, microbrewed and unique you're in luck. Mixed drinks are creative and lovely as well. Only downsides are: location means parking can be hard. Small and popular means you may be in store for a wait for a table. read more

Do you even Nosh bruh? This place is painfully good, as in my back literally hurts from eating too much. Also, one must properly prepare for eating at Nosh: a pre and post nosh 24 hour juice cleanse is ideal along with at least 100oz of water a day due to the salt intake and copious amounts of meat. I have been here a few times, but have been waiting to get the Apocalypse Now burger before writing a review. Let me just tell you, Martin Brando would not be saying "the horror, the horror!" After eating this burger. I added lettuce to mine (because #healthy) and had the buffalo dusted fries with blue cheese and ketchup. My friend had the wings and the bacon dusted fries with cheese sauce. The burger was OUTSTANDING- Nosh's unique blend of burger, crispy pork belly, bacon, american cheese, cherry jam and FOIS FRICKIN GRAS PATE. It also wasn't impossibly huge- it was actually quite manageable to eat. While the buffalo dusted fries were good, it was just kind of a spicy/salty mix on the fries and it didn't scream buffalo. Same with the bacon dusted fries- good, but not like blow my mind good. In all honesty I was most blown away the first time I ever had their salt and vinegar fries. YUM! Here's why only 4 stars: Fries: good, but not mind blowing like everyone says. Some were too crispy for my taste. Service: our waitress SUCKED, I think her name was Charlotte? Granted, I legit think it was just her and not the all around service. We had to ask another waitress to bring us water because I had asked our server and she never brought it and everytime she came close to the table it was like she was actively avoiding us. Then we had to wait forever for our check- there was a table next to us that had the same server and they just came for dessert and way after we did and they got their check long before us and when we tried to get her attention she walked away (this is a place where your server brings your food, water and check). Thankfully the hostess was paying attention and proactively brought us our check which was so nice of her and awesome and literally we paid and then our waitress came over and was like "you good?" After seeing this place on the Food Network channel, I knew I had to visit it. Just never got the chance because it was always packed. Came here on a Wednesday and it was pretty full. Seats are pretty close to each other, so if you are hoping for some privacy, forget about it. For appetizers we had the sweet potato tots with sour cream and chilies. This was really good. For drinks I had the BLT, which was lemon with whiskey. Highly recommended! I had the Nosh burger which was recommended by our waitress. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. This burger had a patty, bacon and fried egg with balsamic vinegar. Egg was over fried, and the patty was tasteless. After having a bad experience at Taco Escobar across the street with accommodating my family with seating and was told to sit outside in the rain, we ended up going across the street to NOSH and wow. We had some time to kill and decided to give this place a try. Afterall, Nosh received a glowing review on Man vs. Food. It was Saturday evening and the place was not busy at all. We were seated right away. I already knew what I wanted (Apocalypse Now) so I didn't even read the menu. My daughter ordered some fries. The food came out after about 20 minutes and my first thought was, Wow, this is smaller than what they showed on tv. Despite the pork belly appearing overcooked the burger was good. Nosh is an awesome burger joint in the heart of Portland. The vibe is casual, funky and hip. I came here with 3 friends. I ordered the sweet and spicy burger which was delicious . The patty is juicy and flavorful. Something important to note is that their patties are always done medium well because they are a mixture of pork and beef cuts. But they are always juicy and cooked perfectly. Another friend ordered the burnt trailer queen which is a spectacle with the donuts as buns and the heaping mound of blueberry cream cheese. He raved about it but you definitely have to like the sweet/ savory combo. My husband ordered the Mac stac which had Mac and cheese patties as buns, he loved it. We all ordered fries as our sides and they were absolutely delicious, crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. I Love that you have so many choices for sauces and toppings. I ordered the bacon dusted fries with the horseradish mayo and I was obsessed, so yummy. As a bonus, their selection of local beers and ciders was awesome. I freaking LOVE Nosh. I sometimes forget how much I love it. And then as soon as I am there, sampling this place's tasty goodness once again, it all comes back to me. My current favorite meal here: 1) The crispy avocado sandwich (holy heaven on earth), 2) A side of one garlic pickle spear (best 50 cents I've ever spent), 3) A shared order of salt and pepper fries with a side of chicken gravy. You also can't go wrong with the burgers (they are huge), and the beer selection is on point. Honestly, this is one of those places where (not to jinx it or anything...), I've never been with someone who has had a bad meal. I used to live in Portland and have heard a lot about Nosh. So I was up visiting for the weekend and stopped by for the Mac 'N Stack. First off, I really like the vibe of the place. Seating is great for chatting it up with friends, even though I sat at the bar. The burger was amazing. Nice creaminess of the macaroni and cheese, the burger and bacon cooked just right. Used hands for first bite, but it is a burger you may need to finish with a knife and fork. I ordered the bacon dusted fries and wish I could have left with bottle of bacon dust to take home with me. You get two dipping sauces, one ketchup & another of your choice. WORD OF CAUTION: I'm a big guy and the burger and fries were almost too much for me. There are plenty of fries for two people. Really loved Nosh! They have huge extravagant food so it's a little pricy but the food is delicious. We were deciding between Nosh or Slab and when we decided to go to Nosh we were so excited to see that they had a burger made with two slices of Slab pizza as the bun! You can order regular, bacon-dusted, or salt an vinegar fries. Along with their fries, you can also order from a variety of aioli-like sauces. They have a wide variety of beer and drink choices. The only thing that is keeping me from giving them a 5 star rating is their prices. Be prepared to drop some money as the burgers don't automatically come with fries. since it opened I visit this spot for dinner with friends and a date night maybe a few times a year and always found the food tasty and atmosphere fun. On my most recent visit I thought we were being punked by the waiter, but no, he was really being a nasty condescending jerk to my friends, particularly one who had trouble pronouncing some names of the liquor. I wish I could give this a 3.5 because that's what I would give it. I think the bar itself is cool, but I do think it's over hyped....myself included. I used to live in Portland and when I come back, I always try to get a spot here. We waited well over an hour for a spot on a Saturday night to eat at Nosh. They have a great selection of beers on tap. The food is good, the fries are really where it's at. Buffalo dusted, bacon dusted and salt & vinegar dusted friends are delicious. I had the reuben which was really good, but was difficult to eat. I think the novelty of the restaurant is that they have food that you would never eat, unless at this type of spot. A friend mac & cheese bun for burgers, donuts for buns, etc. I think it's a great spot to try once but then you'll know what it's like. It's not worth the wait, so come by when it's dead inside to try the food. read more

This place is great. Went in for a quick bite after walking around the beautiful Portland are. It was packed, but we were seated quickly at the last remaining table for two. Service was not bad, not great. The food was the star of the show. Ended up getting the Mac and Stac, surprisingly, the burger was just "okay", but the fried mac and cheese buns were amazing. El dente mac and cheese, good flavor, not terribly greasy. I ended up splitting this with my girlfriend as I think it's just too caloric for one person to eat. We also ended up getting bacon dusted french fries which were amazing as well. The ambience and service are just okay, but the food is quite good. Definitely a fun place to stop and eat if you are in the area and are interested in gorging. read more

Service was great! The atmosphere is a bit loud, so he prepared to yell to your date/group when chatting. Probably the worst seating I've experienced at a restaurant. Crammed, and uncomfortable. We had to move our table to squeeze in next to another couple. Bacon dusted fries are the shit. Having had just been disappointed with the fries from Duck Fat, our B&B host sent us over here with one piece of advice "try the bacon dusted fries." And we did. Jesus. Fucking. Christ. Bacon DUSTED? How do you DUST something with bacon? I have no idea. I just spent about five minutes on Google trying to figure it out, but I do recall seeing this place on "Man versus Food" and they basically freeze the bacon and turn it into dust... thus the Bacon dusted fries. What's great about the fries (in addition to the dust) is that they are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Perfect combination. Much like my high school boyfriend, it's is true that Nosh is all hype and no game. I hadn't ever been to Nosh and on our way to BODA tonight we decided to change courses last minute and try nosh since I had heard awesome things from other people who had been. We were seated right away, Which was nice for a change. Saturday nights downtown aren't usually so quick. I'm not in love with the seating arrangement. Tables and ambiance are cool, but I was elbow to elbow with strangers. Luckily they were nice, but it was impossible to talk to my boyfriend and not all of them. Beyond that, our waitress couldn't reach us. Soooo... We played three table plate pass! Again, great, patient neighbors. It took nearly 45 minutes from when we ordered until when our food came out. I ordered the Mac stack because they were out of pizza for the slab burger. I was hoping for homemade fried Mac with real cheese. I did not get that. It was bland, kinda slimy, and the breading was burnt from staying in the fryer too long. Dressings and seasonings otherwise were good. I will say that I asked for a well done burger and mine was medium. Whatever. At that point I just ate it for the sake of eating. We didn't bother to stick around for dessert, but instead opted to go elsewhere. The bacon fries were okay. I wasn't wowed. They were good fries but really soft. If you want fries, just hit Duckfat. Overall, I found the experience lackluster. Flavorless. The highlights: good beer selection, fast bar service, great servers, space and concept. Low points: bad spacing, no culinary follow through. My husband and I went here for a drink and saw an appetizer that we wanted to try. We asked the bartender if one of the "toppings" could be ommited, due to a dietary restriction, and she said it shouldn't be a problem and went to ask. She returned with a guy who acted completely annoyed. He questioned us WHY, rolled his eyes, shrugged his shoulders and was insulted by the request. We were so disgusted by his attitude and inflexability! After he had walked out the front door, the bartender was even embarrassed and apologized for his behavior. Then she told us he was one of the OWNERS!! Bottom line: Nosh is very unaccomodating. There are SO many bars and restaurants in town where they make you feel welcomed and have no problem with leaving a topping off a dish- Nosh is NOT one of them! read more
