Never expected to find this oasis in a desert of chain restaurants. Soups made from scratch. Fresh salads with house-made dressings. Decor is so polished, I never would have thought this was a family-owned business. Ingredients are fresh and there's a surprisingly large number of items on the menu. You can eat in or take out. Highly recommend this. It's close to the airport and I wanted to grab a quick meal before my flight. To think I almost settled for one of the fast food factories that populate this area. Normally I like this restaurant but they really need to improve their Albacore tuna sandwich. It was so dry I had to request extra mayo after I tasted it. The bread was rather dry too. Won't order that again. Also, they should consider adding double doors. It was freezing in there the other day. Every time the door opened a gust of cold air ripped through the place. A trendy coffee shop. Sandwiches are assembles right in front of you like they do at Subway. They also have a nice selection of soups and salads, and of course coffee, cappuccino, and lattes. I ordered a veggie sandwich which consisted of roasted sweet red peppers, Vidalia onions, portabella mushrooms, and parmesan pesto on freshly baked bread. I also ordered an espresso. The sandwich was seasoned and toasted to perfection. The sandwich was large enough to fill me up without needing a to go box. The price is reasonable for the quality. It's worth a return trip to experience more of their specialty sandwiches. I stopped in Not By Bread Alone for a quick breakfast while exploring the city on a weekday morning. I was greeted by a super-friendly staff and enticing aromas from the numerous baked goods. I settled upon three items to take with me: a sausage muffin (warmed to have with the coffee I had in the car), a bread pudding muffin (for later) and a loaf of sourdough bread. While waiting on the sausage muffin to be warmed, I was asked if I wanted my load of bread sliced or not. The sausage muffin was unlike anything I had ever tasted before. With a pastry crust which reminded me of a biscuit, I bit into the biscuit and was enticed by a wonderful combination of pastry and sausage. The proportions were perfect--there was enough sausage for every bite of the muffin. A perfect start to a chilly morning in Green Bay. As I completed errands that morning, I paused and had the bread pudding muffin as a pick-me-up snack. I wasn't sure what to expect from abread pudding muffin, but it tasted like the homemade bread puddings I've had in the past. A wonderful treat to get me through until lunch. The sourdough bread reminded me of the bread I fell in love with during a visit to San Francisco many years ago. It tastes great out of the bag or toasted to accompany breakfast at home. Solid local lunchtime stop - probably more like a 3.5 star place for me, but I'm bumping it up to show my love for the local scene in the GB and cause they had some veggie options. Kind of a mom and pop shop feel. I was there today with a group of 8 and it took quite a while for all of us to get our lunches. The lunch menu has salads, sandwiches, soup, cookies, and bread I guess - although I didn't see any loafs for sale. Looked for something that looked like it would be quick, but not fast food when we did a bit of a detour through Green Bay and found this place. Great choice! I had the Tuscan salad, which was delicious! My husband got a sandwich he really liked! Of our 50+ employees, I've never heard anyone say anything bad about what option they got. We ordered boxed lunches, and it comes with a sandwich, grapes, dessert bar, and pasta. I got the chicken salad sandwich and it was perfect! So fresh and great quality. The pasta salad was amazing! Great spices and some artichokes thrown in which was the perfect addition. I've waited to review Not By Bread Alone. Their location is really close to me and I frequent them. They have been adjusting to new ownership and have improved the familiar brand. They run wild with catering which means they may not have everything left at the end of the day. So if you visit do it earlier to get the best selection. They have a location off Hansen that makes them a bit more than just a hop off the highway. If you are looking for catering consider Not By Bread. They rank highly with service, fresh ingredients, creative offerings and holiday service. We have gone to them for Christmas, Easter and special holiday events. They take care to make certain the food is proportioned right, fresh and ready on time for any event you might have. The prices are fair, they can serve to virtually any budget. If you find yourself in front of their deli struck by all the choices, consider the cranberry egg salad, it will leave you thinking about unicorns and wizards it's that fantastic. It will not surprise me when they continue with amazing new food items. They need to offer a potato salad to the dine in crowd, maybe replace one of the free water jugs with a Not By Bread Alone punch. Oneida Street has little to offer that can compete. Not By Bread remains one of my favorites in Green Bay. read more

Trying to find a caterer for my wedding in Green Bay was not an easy task. First of all, I live in Phoenix and was planning the wedding long-distance. I knew we wanted a classy, picnic-style reception, but the only caterers I could find online offered the standard Wisconsin fare: family-style chicken, tips, etc. Delicious, yes, but not what I was looking for. When all of a sudden....Not by Bread Alone rises from the internet search abyss. Their website looked promising and I decided to set up a meeting there when I visited Wisconsin. When I met with the owner [Leslie, i think her name was], she was extremely nice and accommodating. She made the whole process completely painless. When we changed our order and added a bunch of pies, she didn't even blink. On the wedding day, everything arrived as ordered and dinner went off without a hitch. People RAVED about the food, especially as it wasn't your standard wedding fare. Since that day, I have gotten countless comments and compliments about how outstanding the food was at our wedding. Can't wait to stop in for lunch the next time I'm in Green Bay. read more

Halfway between the upper Peninsula and Milwaukee, we stopped for a midmorning breakfast. After commiserating with the staff over the difficulty in finding pastrami and finding that while the owner was a pastrami fan, it just hadn't been able to maintain its position on the menu and have been recently removed. It was, however, adequately replaced with a vegetarian sandwich offering centered around portobello mushrooms. This, combined with the choice of three soups that they were kind enough to warm up at that comparatively early hour, made for a very sufficient brunch. My dining companion tucked into a frittata, preserving the breakfast character of the meal. And, of course, we took along a few loaves of bread for gifts and "for later". read more

On my birthday I got a dozen for my coworkers, all of them agreed that they're fantastic.
