We dine in reston while traveling and have been to many of the town center restaurants. We hadnt been to "not your average joes" and decided to give it a try. The service was fine but the food was pretty terrible. My chicken Caesar came with weird balled chicken that was rubbery. We wont be going back there are plenty of other similar priced options with 10 times better food. Update: Management reached out to give me a gift card for the bad visit but stated the salad was prepared correctly. Why would I want a gift card to get more bad food when you wont admit that is funky chicken? Also who does iceburg lettuce in a caesar salad? Clearly too much wrong here to fix so I dropped it down to a 1 star. read more

This place is a true rip-off. The pizza was mediocre at best. The Caesar salad and burger were both decent, not amazing, just decent. It was the drinks that were horrendous. We ordered two mixed drinks and they were definitely not made with much alcohol at all. They were in tall and skinny glasses with lots of ice and, again, weak on the alcohol. I mentioned to the waitress how weak they were so she brought us 2 shots to add to our drinks. When we got our bill we were charged for the extra shots. So our two $15 drinks ended up being $27.50 each. It was ridiculous! I spoke to the bartender who claimed they put a full shot in our drinks but not a chance on that. They are ripping us off. Stay away. Food isn't that good and they are trying to make huge profits on the drinks. Two big thumbs down. I will never go back. read more

DELICIOUS. First time here today and it did not disappoint. Service - Top tier! Our server name was Jon W. He was sooooo nice and patient, and you could tell he took pride in his work. When I come back, I'm definitely requesting him. He was friendly, on top of things and could remember our order from the top of his head lol Food - we ordered the cheesesteak egg rolls, chicken nachos, teriyaki salmon with spinach and broccoli and a "make your own" pizza with a Cobb salad. Everything was soooo good! No, I could not eat all my food, so I definitely needed a box, but I kindly finished when I got home. When you're seated, they bring you some delicious bread with a oil, cheese dip (I have no way to explain it, but it gives Italian appetizer dish vibe). Ambiance - very nice and clean, along with a nice size bar but still enough space for booths and tables and when you walk in the door, you see this gorgeous pizza Oven to the right. We got takeout last night. Everything was really great! I chose this restaurant because they have an extensive gluten free menu. Sadly, in the pandemic world they have to charge for gluten free bread but I understand. They pack it with their delicious signature dipping sauce made of oil, Parmesan and various spices so it's worth it. For an appetizer we had the seared tuna on cucumbers (instead of wontons) with a spicy Mayo. So delicious! For my main I had the gluten free haddock and it very much had a fish and chips feel. It's not often you can find breaded fish that is gluten free. Portion size was enormous. My husband eats gluten and had the chicken piccata which he said was fantastic. Sadly they didn't have any gluten free desserts. I remember they used to have a really delicious carrot cake. I hope they bring that back! read more

If you are looking for a nice spot for a business lunch look no further! Not your Average Joe's was bustling with patrons on Tuesday. My coworkers and I sat at a booth by the windows and our server was cracking jokes from start to finish. Two of us enjoyed the Thai Beef Noodle. This was featured under the salads section of the menu but provided plenty of toppings for those who don't really love eating salad hahaha My colleague had the Shrimp Scampi. We all shared the Philly Cheese Steak Egg Rolls - I think Del Frisco still has them beat but they were good. Unanimously, we loved the bread and dipping sauce! Thanks for a great lunch. read more

I could have eaten just that and been happy but I decide to behave... you know trying to loose a few pounds in 2020. I ordered a salad with salmon on it... yum. Salmon was cooked perfect and the salad was fresh with a fun mix of toppings. My husband had the lettuce wraps.. I snuck one and it was delightful... a great twist on a classic with a a lovely mix of flavors. Highly recommend! He had the beef pasta special and is to ole a bite of that too... super yummy!!!! A very dependable chain with consistent food. We have run into service issues in the past, especially when they're packed. Any of their pastas are a sure fire winner. Somehow the service gets worse every time we're here. You wouldn't think that it could get much worse but the servers have no sense of how to prioritize tables. We were second at the bar and asked for 3 iced teas and 1 coffee. After 45 minutes of no coffee we asked how it was coming and she said that she just needed to get milk. I would think that with 4 people at the bar it wouldn't be a hard task, but it is. The bread is a minuscule size compared to what it used to be and they give you almost no dip. I honestly didn't think the serving could get any worse from what it used to be with skeptical staff but it absolutely did. They have no idea how to serve and attend to the customers they have. Today we decided to drag our butts out of bed and try brunch. We were not disappointed! The make your own Bloody Mary was life changing! I added, celery, lemon, lime, bacon, mozzarella and tomato, olives, onion and a hamburger slider! Other options were shrimp, buffalo chicken finger, pickle and/ or pepperoncini. You can choose mixers and heat and tang - very customized. The eggs Benedict (ham) were outstanding and my husbands brioche French toast was the best we've had! I was in Reston for work recently and we had a team dinner here. The food and service were awesome. Our waitress was really helpful and cheerful. We really liked her. She had great wine and food suggestions. We started with the Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps - marinated grilled chicken with oranges, carrots and chopped peanuts, served chilled with a tangy sesame-ginger vinaigrette. These were really tasty. Loved the vinaigrette on top. For my entree, I had the Rosemary-Skewered Scallops - new bedford all natural scallops on a rosemary skewer, pan-seared and served over a succotash of israeli couscous, grilled corn, bacon, tomatoes and sugar snap peas, with an orange-chipotle glaze. The scallops were nicely cooked. Seared but not overcooked. Loved the grilled corn and other veggies on the side. Yum. For dessert, we shared the Hot Apple Cinnamon Sticks. I've only done takeout but wow do I love Not Your Average Joe's. I will make a nearly 60 min roundtrip to get their food - it is that good and a great value too. Always get the Buffalo BBQ Chicken pizza and it is one of my favorite meals in the area. That sauce, that pizza crust, the toppings. Just incredible. The free bread and the oil dipping sauce it comes with, I would drink that sauce. And the free foccacia is also delicious. Tried their mustard chicken sandwich too recently and that was also super good. The host who always gets my food is friendly, the prices are super reasonable and I'll continue to drive an hour round-trip to go here because it is that good. read more

The food was great, the service was phenomenal, and the atmosphere was perfect for Father's Day. Our server, Ahmad, did an AWESOME job & made us feel right at home. If you've been to restaurants lately, you'll know how much they're struggling, and how lackluster the service can be... Not here. Complimentary bread and Parmesan/olive oil mix is delightful, but cold. My drink was not too sweet, but lacking in flavor. I appreciated the Fit-For-You menu for special diets- although there was no rhyme or reason as to which special dietary needs each dish followed (vegan vs gluten free vs paleo). Still puzzling to me were the salads that made it on that menu at 1000+ calories. Moving on, the portion of mustard-crusted chicken was easily enough for two (and in our case, three) people. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dishes, but I'm not sure that we were really wowed. I've really enjoyed the butternut squash mac and cheese in the past, but they seem to have removed it from the menu. Service was subpar, aside from the host being super kind to us. Our waiter was not the best and couldn't understand that we wanted 2 separate checks. We all ordered our food, and everything was extremely salty, or EXTREMELY overcooked. My chicken in my jambalaya was so dry it became stringy and tough. My friends sirloin tips were also the same, and he ordered medium rare but it came out gray and overcooked almost not chewable. Another one of us got a burger medium rare and same problem it was gray, dry and overcooked. The penne alla vodka was spicy? which we weren't too sure about and the pasta tasted like tap water as if it was left out long after it was already cooked. The sauce had no resemblance to penne alla vodka. Not sure if we were just there on a bad day but we did not have a pleasant experience at all and most definitely will not return here. How is it possible everything on our table was overcooked? Every order we had was not great at all. All of our food even came out cold. The cheese on the pasta never even had the chance to melt, it was just a slab of cheese on top. Presentation was okay but it was not pleasant to eat. read more

It's really impressive that NYAJ's is able to deliver such consistent quality and taste as a medium sized chain. Great food and service. Prices are just a bit spendy but still within reason - it's an especially good place for a business lunch or dinner. Strong recommendation overall. I've been here maybe once or twice a month over the last year or so. Service is always strong. They hit the right number of check-ins, calibrate well to a table's vibe, and are really speedy with things like taking orders, bringing food, and handling payment - again, making it great for a business meal. Food is consistently good to great. I've had things like the ahi tuna, mustard chicken, salads, salmon - all deliver on point with really good quality. Their lunch menu items in particular are well portioned. The focaccia and dip they serve is a real knockout too. One thing: come for the bread. I wish I had just loaded up on it instead of getting what I did for the mains. Seriously, the focaccia with the dipping oil (which comes free for every table) is to-die-for! Being a flat bread, it's fluffy AND dense at the same time, and whatever seasoning they used on top just upped it a notch. I should've paid money to get more. Otherwise the entrees were disappointing. I ordered the Marinated Sirloin Tips with Coleslaw & Bok Choy and my colleague the Steak Wedge but they totally messed up the done-ness of our beef! My "medium" steak tips were so tough they hurt my jaw, so I only enjoyed the veggies. Whereas her well done steak was so pink I swear she gagged! But we were sitting at opposite ends of the table and it was too late to switch once we'd realized the mistake. Came here for dinner with a group and both service and food were excellent. The staff was very attentive and all of our dishes were delicious. I ordered the turkey avocado club sandwich and the portions were very generous. Although the restaurant is near Reston Town Center, it is in the shopping center across the street and therefore has its own parking lot so you don't even need to deal with the annoying pay parking at the rest of the town center. read more

Buck-a-shuck and martini Monday's are deal you don't want to miss! A specialty martini and your choice of 3 shrimp and 3 oysters, or 6 of one, all for $12! The oysters are $1 a piece and any and all of the happy hour apps pair great with them. We sat at the bar but the $1 oysters are throughout the whole restaurant. The bread, of course, is the BEST with the grated parmesan and oil. All their food is fantastic. Can't beat a happy hour slice of pizza for $2! read more

Came here for a team lunch back on 5/3 for my new Job as a welcome aboard and thought it was very delicious. We were a party of 6 and we showed up during lunch with no reservation and they were able to seat us fast with no problem We got the cheese steak egg rolls and nachos to share which were all very tasty and I got the mustard crusted sandwich which was me stepping way out of my norm but was pleasantly surprised and thought it was very tasty. Others got salads and burgers and other sandwiches and all loved them with no complaints.
