Lori was very conscientious of our needs. After talking to her, I could tell she knew really did understand our needs . She even provided in detail the steps she takes to avoid cross contamination and she provided a list of ingredients used, so we could cross check. Dealing with Lori was so nice. Lori told me how and why she COULD do the things we needed done, instead of so many other bakeries that told me why they couldn't, or what I would have to settle with/for. Baker on the Block truly exceeded my expectations! I can not even begin to tell you how nice it was to know that we could truly enjoy this cake without fear of allergic reaction! The best surprise was how good the bake tasted! This was one of the most flavorful cakes I have ever eaten. The butter cream frosting tasted mild and sweet, not waxy like at all. The chocolate cake was light and fluffy and my fork easily cut right through it. Lori is also gifted at cake decorating. As I said, I needed a theme cake, the request was for an Outlander related cake with the stones. Outlander is not my thing, I had no idea what I needed. So Lori did some research and presented an excellent design option very quickly. She brought the solution to me where other bakeries were looking to me, and I had no idea. I appreciated Lori making it really, really simple for me. The cake was ready on time and in a sturdy box. When I got the cake home my wife saw the cake and was very pleased especially with the stones on top and the designs on the side and top the top...she said it was PERFECT!!! Lori and Baker on the Block did an awesome job of making me look like one smart husband!!! Baker on the Block can definitely create a cake for any occasion! Her prices are very reasonable. Her attention to detail on the top, sides , flavor and texture is the complete package that you are looking for. You will see that your cake project is her passion.

I would avoid this establishment…read more I called on 1/27 at 12:40 PM to order vegan cupcakes for my son's birthday. The employee, Tim, told me they had 6 vanilla and 6 chocolate vegan cupcakes available. I requested 4 chocolate cupcakes, and he said I would need to prepay and that they would be ready in 15 minutes. I was surprised they could be prepared that quickly, but went along with it. We picked them up about 30 minutes later and brought them home. That evening, my son tried one and it was extremely hard, with grainy frosting. Overall, the cupcake tasted terrible. We didn't eat the remaining three and left them in the box. The next day, I returned to the shop to share my concerns and was told Tim would call me back. He did call and said they had tried a cupcake and felt it tasted fine. He also told me that I may not know what vegan cupcakes taste like. I didn't argue, but I've had plenty of vegan desserts before, and they've never been this inedible. He then explained that the batter used was leftover from a cake made a week earlier and that it's common practice for them to freeze batter and make cupcakes later. I was surprised to hear this. More disappointing was that there was no attempt to make things right or offer any solution--only to explain why they wouldn't provide a refund. I told him that was fine, but that I wouldn't be returning or recommending their shop and would be sharing my experience. If you're looking for vegan options or any dessert options and decent customer service, there are plenty of other places in the area. I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

This is a family owned bakery and eatery. The name may suggest this is a desserts only type of…read moreplace, but they have a small dining area in the back where they serve traditional home-cooked Filipino lunch & dinner items. Don't expect anything fancy, just simply staples for a quick bite to eat. The bakery items I've tried so far have all been good. I've had the biko (a thick, dense rice pudding), swiss roll cakes (they have a variety of flavors to choose from, and many have fresh coconut slivers in the cream), ube bread (a sweetbread swirled with sweet purple potato yam), sapin (a tri-colored glutinous coconut gelatin - think of this as a dense sort of jello, but with natural flavors), and hopia with a sweet mung bean filling (this is similar to the Chinese mooncake with a super dense center covered in a buttery laminated pastry). They also sell an assortment of plain donuts and empanadas / meat-filled "baos" in the front. Everything was very well made and fairly priced. Individual desserts were $2-4 and the larger bread loafs and swiss rolls meant to be shared are $5-6. Nothing fancy, but solid homecooked goods that you can afford to eat every day. Many people come here to grab a bunch of sweets for family and friends get togethers. If you need an "Asian style" birthday cake, they have ready made cakes and can do special orders. These are as good as the ones served in fancier patisseries in Manhattan for a fraction of the cost - think Paris Baguette or Tous Les Jours sans decorations. The cake is super light and fluffy and the "icing" is a smooth whipped cream. If you don't like traditional birthday cakes or sugary icings, give this a try at your next special occasion!

They have a decently sized seating area, and in the warmer months, there's a patio to sit outside. It can get a bit loud inside during the weekends and peak hours, so not ideal if you prefer quieter environments to do work. I absolutely love their brownies, especially their blackberry brownie, but they were out the day I went so I got the red velvet cupcake instead and it was perfectly moist and soft. You truly can't go wrong with any of their bakery items. I also got the pesto pasta salad, which I highly recommend.

I had the pick two, which was a half a sandwich (grilled cheese) with a half salad (kale Caesar). The salad was so good! Fresh, crisp and lightly dressed. However, the grilled cheese was pretty sad. I opened it up and there was hardly any cheese. It was just like eating two pieces of grilled bread. They need to improve on that for sure. I also had their 12oz wildflower latte which was very tasty, but served lukewarm and not hot. If the milk is not steamed, it will bring down the temperature of the coffee. I like my specialty coffees served hot. I do have to say every staff member we came in contact with was friendly. They seemed happy and were there to help and answer questions. You place your order at the counter, and you receive a number which you display at your table. There are two dining areas with tables and a few booths to dine at next to where you place your order. Members of the staff bring your order to the table. We didn't have to wait long for our drinks and food. Even with the sad grilled cheese sandwich which was disappointing and the lukewarm latte, I would definitely go back to Blackberry Market again to try other items on their menu. I'll pass on the grilled cheese, though.
