I can't conscionably give any company that uses partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) in all their products more than one star. As a quick background of why this matters, the FDA states, "PHOs are the primary dietary source of artificial trans fat in processed foods." The FDA classifies them as not Generally Recognized as Safe and mandates their removal from all food by the end of the year (1/1/20). I obviously realize that deserts are generally less healthy but I'll stick with deserts that contain ingredients that aren't on the FDA removal list. Before knowing about their use of PHOs, I had tried a few different flavors of their bundtlets--larger than a cupcake, smaller than a cake. They were ok but nothing special---definitely not worth the consumption of PHOs. They also don't make it easy to figure out their nutrition information. Gluten allergy, peanut allergy? You're going to have to call. There was no nutrition information and no ingredients list on the packaging and neither can be found on their website either. Why? Why? Why? Did my friend who lives in Chicago tell me about this place. She was always raving about the cakes she eats from NBC. I decided to browse their website and lo and behold, they have a location 15 minutes from my house. Sigh...the rest is history. Sweet, delectable history. First off, the shop itself is so cute and deliciously fragrant. They also sell other eclectic items sure to please; rather it's for a gift or a treat for yourself. After much debate, I decided on four bundlets during this first visit. Yes, I said four. Pecan praline, red velvet, marble, and lemon were the chosen four. My, oh my. I was blown away. I can't recall ever buying a more delicious cake from any bakery. I ranked them in order of deliciousness. The pecan praline and red velvet are in a dead heat for first place. I listed pecan praline first since it's not as readily available in bakeries, stores, etc. as red velvet which can be found numerous places. The marble and lemon are great also. I have no complaints about any of them. For visit number two, I narrowed it down to only three bundtlets. Chocolate truffle, carrot cake, and vanilla were the chosen ones this time, and all were delicious. I chose the chocolate truffle because it was the featured flavor for January. Each month they introduce a different flavor only available for that month. I forgot to mention that I brought a friend along for each visit. I had to drag them down with me. Every time I go there they are so rude! So they have a table set up outside and you have to call the store and they'll bring your order out to you. Can someone please tell me why you can't go inside the store.? They have little pictures on the table outside and they bring your order to you. You have no idea how much things cost. To die for!!!! First this place is pretty cute inside...yes cute. The smell is amazing and they have a daily tasting which honestly is genius because I tried it and bought three of those cakes. I stopped in the get a birthday cake and ended up leaving with more for me then the birthday. The monthly cake is confetti which was amazing!! And I also got several white chocolate raspberry cakes. I went in with pretty low expectations since traditional bundt cakes are heavy and dense. When they offered me a sample, boy was I surprised! It was so airy and light, and the frosting was a cream cheese base that wasn't too sweet at all. I hate frosting usually but this was too good to scrape off! I ordered the mini confetti and lemon bundts and had ate them mid afternoon (I was trying to save some for the husband to try... whoops). Seriously, go to this place and order all the bundts. My favorite cake store ever! The cakes are all bundt in shape, but fancy enough to serve for most parties (they can dress them up with silk flowers for a gift). Super moist and rich. This business has an excellent location and is easy to find. The premises are immaculately clean and the staff is very pleasant and helpful. I've been there 3 times. All the cakes I bought are excellent. The only thing I would say could be changed is more variety in the products, more frequently. As I understand it, they stock a standard variety of Bundt Cakes. Once a month they'll rotate in a new one. Therefore, they may have 11 of the same flavor of bundt cakes all the time and once a month, will have one new one. I realize this is a franchise and the cakes that are made are dictated by the "main store". However, for local people, like myself, that may visit more frequently than once a month, I'd like to see a little more variety, with a flavor rotation perhaps twice a month. The cakes are always fresh and soft with the frosting creamy/delicious. Each bundt cake is packaged individually in a small box. While I have a major sweet tooth, I am normally not a fan of bakery birthday cakes. I generally find them to be lackluster assembly line products- heavy often dry flavorless cake topped with frosting that is either sickeningly sweet or leaves a bad aftertaste. So I was delighted to discover Nothing Bundts cake when it was served at my friend's birthday celebration today. It is the best bakery cake I have ever had- unbelievably moist and light with wonderful flavor and a stellar cream cheese frosting which compliments the cake perfectly (and is applied in a unique fashion in thick ribbons). I had the marble cake but I understand that they offer a plethora of flavors (including a special flavor of the month) to suit everyone's tastes. They also offer adorable mini bundlets which allow you to enjoy a treat and sample different flavors without having to purchase a larger cake.
