Me and my friends walked into your store today with no acknowledgment or customer service. We continued and looked around smelled some $75 perfumes and five dollar sample perfumes and we realized we were being followed and watched by these two women. Yeah after we tried using a make up sample, and my friend said that she didn't like it, one of the women came over and said oh it's just dried up. I continue to walk past my friends to look on my own and I have at least three women staring at me and my every move. I have never stolen anything and it is very stereotypical to think that when you see a teenage girl. Any customer counts as a customer and I shouldn't have to be discrimination based on my age or what I look like. read more

I love supporting local but just can't support Notice any longer due to the rudeness of the staff. Yesterday was a holiday shopping day on Central - every other independent store greeted me when I came in and said thank you for my purchase. Not Notice- no hello, not even even a smile towards myself or other customers...and one of the daughters who owns the shop was working (were you and the staff pretending to be the Central St grinches)? Also- I understand the box shortage but a customer was at the counter with a breakable ornament and you wouldn't give them a box when there's a stack of boxes behind the counter - come on, you can do so better as an independent business!! read more

Wonderful lines of jewelry, handbags (some which would make great travel bags), clothing, accessories, lotions, candles, etc. I've seen a couple of clothing lines here that I've never seen anywhere else, and a couple of items I've purchased have become favorites. Some items are expensive but for something unique and well-made I'm willing to splurge. They also usually have several sale racks with good deals on them. I've seen some reviews that claim poor or rude service but I have not experienced this myself; I've always had friendly service. I do agree, however, that the sales people can be a little over-attentive. I don't like to shop with someone hovering. Overall, this is a great place for gifts and for adding something special to your wardrobe. read more

I thought this store was well curated and neat. I really liked their selection of jewelry here. I believe most of it is from local jewelry makers which is always neat. They had some really cool designs. I'm not a big jewelry person but looking at the cases was definitely inspiring for me! They also had a decent amount of clothing as well. I'd say a lot of the pieces are a bit on the pricey side but they do have sales which make it more affordable. read more

This is such a great store - I've had mixed experiences- sometimes I get very cool, if not downright hostile reception, (one woman in particular is extremely unfriendly - which makes me not want to shop - ) but yesterday I randomly stopped in for some hair ties & it was terrific - the ladies were so involved, helpful, cheerful - made me want to shop. I got a bunch of dresses & skirts & had so much fun doing it. Then the grumpy lady came to the front counter as I was rung up didn't so much as crack a smile. Strange. Odd. But I think retailers get fed up & burnt out because honestly customers can be major assholes too. But if you're a retailer and you get to that point, maybe you should stay in back & let the happy people deal with it. There's no place for the right-jawed, lock-lipped approach in retail - especially now with all the online competition. Make your customers feel good or die. Re: other reviews - Though I agree employees should ALWAYS be cheerful, as should owners - however I also feel anyone who complains about the return policy on a small boutique is ignorant about how the world works. When you buy a bunch of stuff (and return it the day after Christmas as one reviewer did - lame) you are preventing OTHER PEOPLE from buying it while you have it. The days leading to Christmas? That's prime time. After Christmas it goes on sale & they lose their profit. They lose their profit they lose their shop. A boutique pays their employees- sometimes by the skin of their teeth mind you if it has been a bad week - and they need the capital your purchases generated. They can't just give it back like a huge department store folks. Wake up people. If you want these cute & unique shops to exist (they bring up your property values, hello) you have to shop at them. And not give them a hard time. Because if you make them miserable it will no longer be fun for them. And if it's not fun they will just start online shops. And the world will have no personality. & no one will be there to help you, tell you what looks good one you & what doesn't. There will be no where to walk to except Starbuck's. I stumbled into Notice after a dentist appointment, and I'm so happy I did. I wasn't really in the market for anything, but I was just offered a new job so I decided to treat myself to a cute, polka-dot Dear Creatures dress ($128). It was a bit on the pricey side, but I like to support small businesses and designers. They carry some awesome indie labels like Eva Franco, Dear Creatures, and Yoana Baraschi. If you give them your birthday, they send you a 25% off coupon, that's always a nice touch. Also, the sales women were super friendly and helpful, I will definitely be back! read more

Whenever I am showing off a purchase sold from this environmentally friendly accessory store, I always get noticed. No pun intended! Visited this store right before Christmas to make some last minute purchases. Paid cash. Returned the mechandise the day after Christmas. Was informed the store does not return items for the original form of payment, but only gives store credit. This policy was not a posted policy and was not communicated to me at time of purchase. This policy was not posted when I went to the store to return the merchandise. Seems like a nice store, but this is not a way to treat customers. This is the first negative review I've ever written...but I feel better that I now see it's not just me when it comes to sharing comments about Notice in Evanston. Too bad that this small business (that so many of us want to support) seems to disregard the importance of providing store policies more clearly. This is the last time I will shop at this store. The store was empty and the employee there acted like she was offended because I brought in my "birthday discount" card they had mailed me two days late. I left and spent $277 at a similar store in the area where they offered the same products I was looking for. Not going back to Notice again. There are just too many places to shop to be treated poorly by staff. She blamed it on the owner, but she was not helpful at all. read more

One of Highland Park's best kept secret!!!!! They truly have unique things and I love the socially conscience stuff that they have. Their stuff is largely made of re-purposed and recycled materials. Last Christmas I bought about half of my gifts here. Also, they are so cool and nice and welcoming. The space has such a nice, urban feel. I make it a point to travel up from the city to go. I have shopped at Notice for a number of years and have their fab clothes in my closet. They have been helpful and yet give me the personal space to look around. I like to shop the sales and often get a good deal as well as buying their full price clothing. They carry brands which the larger department stores don't stock. Do you want to be a bit unique? I've have shopped here for probably over 10 years. I've had amazing customer service in the past and have purchased many gifts. Today, I walked in around 1:50pm ready to buy some holiday presents. I see some similar bracelets that I saw at another store. I mentioned it to the store employee behind the register that I just saw these bracelets and they were so pretty. Then suddenly that same employee, who very rudely lets me know she is the owner and she is running a small business and was not happy I mentioned that I saw those bracelets somewhere else!!! Are you kidding me?!! I have never in my life ever walked into a small business and been treated like that. First, be respectful to all your customers because you don't know who they know and lastly when owning a small business know that you do have competition out there and it's your job to understand how to make your business as competitive or better. You unfortunately have done wrong with someone who has great influence in the North Shore and all my friends that I referred to you in the past will unfortunately never set foot in your store again. Staff hover over you like you are a shoplifter. You can't sell things if you don't let people SHOP. That means looking at things, smelling the candles, checking out the clothing. They have cute stuff but if you see an employee staring at you the whole time you are there, it becomes extremely uncomfortable. It happens every time I go in there by myself or with others. Staff is either overattentive or irritated with you being there. Such an odd place. Done with it. read more

Family owned business with lots of unique items.

Shopped at Notice in Lake Geneva and was pleased when it opened in Evanston. Overall, they have really cute things. Be aware, though, that everything is quite expensive - the belts, clothes, purses, jewelry. I usually buy small gifts at this store but avoid big-ticket items. The clothes look good on the hanger but fit poorly. Sales help is horrible. Today I was in with my family and the salesgirl was on a personal call the entire time. She never took a moment to greet us, to help us, or to try to sell anything to us. She will certainly not help this store succeed. A suggestion for the owner(s) would be to hire better help and to look for lower price points on items. read more

Enjoyed being a notice customer until today when I encountered a snarky salesperson who's lack of customer service skills and less than pleasant demeanor just made me a non-customer. Stopped in to return a purchase and got "schooled" in an unfriendly way of the stores unfriendly return policy. Which evidently "everyone who works here is well trained in articulating". I love this store. I like their taste, they have cool things, and the staff has always been friendly and helpful to me. I have never had to return anything I've gotten from there, so I'm not aware of whether that is easy or difficult. But, I think this store and their inventory is just terrific. I never fail to find a nice and unique present for someone when I shop there. Also, I once got THE most beautiful cashmere scarf there that was woven in such an artful way that it was like a piece of fine art. Aside from being incredibly overpriced, this store has a terrible return policy. You have 30 days to return the item, with receipt, with tags, to get in-store credit only. Extremely inflexible towards loyal customers, hence I am never shopping there again. read more

This shop is truly amazing! The selection of items is absolutely unique and every time I visit there is something new and interesting. Many items you won't find anywhere else, and the "green" selection seems to be growing daily. The owners have a good eye for things that are well designed, extremely well made, and affordable. What a great place to find totally unique and earth-friendly gifts! When you are looking for something for the person that has everything--you will find the missing link here. Who would have thought of making a bowl from a old classic LP? Or a graphite raven's head that doubles as a pencil? Jewelry from a bicycle chain? Amazing.
