We had a 7:30 reservation on a Saturday night. They seated us about 25 minutes later and didn't seem very concerned about it. However, when we sat down, the manager promptly took our drink orders, which was a nice touch. We had the grilled provolone appetizer, which we liked. Bread came out after the appetizer and dish of oil was spilled by server on the table. Ok, that happens. When we ordered our entrees, the waiter did not write them down and had to check back a few minutes later to double check our orders (he did this again when we ordered dessert). I ordered the salmon. It came out very under cooked. I was pregnant so had to send it back. They brought it out again, asked me to cut into it again, and it was still underdone. It's rare you have to send something back twice to have it cooked to your liking. My husband enjoyed his gnocchi; I thought it seemed a little bland. As mentioned above, dessert had to be ordered twice (our server wrote nothing down), and we did like the pistachio gelato. They did comp my salmon and the dessert given all of the issues. We noticed a table near us sending back underdone steaks and a manager talking to another 2 tables about incorrect things/errors. I wanted to like this place and thought the food was decent, but don't think we'll be back given the issues and table surrounding us all having issues. After reading the reviews, it appears as we had many of the same issues. Went on Sunday night with a reservation for six. We were seated promptly, but that's about where the good service ended. It took approximately 10 minutes for our waitress to come over, and another ten for us to receive our drinks. She claimed they were training a new bartender, so I'll let this slide. 3 of six meals arrived cold, and one was forgotten and arrived piping hot 10 minutes after everyone else. They did take the late arriving meal off the bill which I appreciate, but it was still a pricey night out for a less than impressive experience. I would consider giving it another shot, and perhaps sit at the bar. My chicken saltimboca with risotto has the makings of a delicious meal if it was hot. read more

Went in tonight for dinner. It doesn't look like much from the outside. The inside was really nice. It has an industrial feel to it. Staff was very friendly. Ordered the chicken parm meatballs and lemon parm chicken wings. Both were really good. For dinner my son ordered chicken fingers and fries off the kids menu. He was not a fan of the chicken. It was too salty. He did like the fries. He said they were like McDonalds. My daughter ordered a a Cesar salad with chicken. It looked really good. Came out with a slice prosciutto on top and a sliced tomato and chicken on the side. She enjoyed it. I ordered the chicken saltimbocca. Was not what I expected. It came out with 4 medallions of chicken rolled with prosciutto over a risotto and a Marsala and mushroom sauce on the side. The chicken was over cooked. I didn't care for the Marsala sauce. We were lucky enough to sit in Jacks section. Easily the best server we have ever had! So friendly, genuinely likes what he does. Made the night that much better! If there was a "down" side, it's the parking. They do have valet but only Thurs-Sat. But hey, it's E Milton Sq. you know going in the parking will be a challenge. All in all, great night! Thursday evening a friend and I had dinner at Navaro. The server was very friendly the barrat was delicious and the salmon special salad was quite nice. I was down on the South Shore for a work event so I figured I would give this place a try. My boyfriend was a little skeptical on coming down to meet me after looking at the menu, but we both left very pleased. The Calamari and the Chicken Parmesan Meatballs were very tasty and filling appetizers. The entrees were just as enjoyable. The Salmon Picatta was very tasty and not too filling. We also ordered the Prime Flat Iron Steak which came with a grilled potato cake. We enjoyed it so much we were tempted to get one to go. Beautifully redone, the indoor is grand and the outdoor seating makes you feel like you're not outside a busy street. The food is good, but not worth the price. I had pancetta wrapped chicken with mushrooms and polenta. It was priced at $23, but I would maybe pay $15 for that. My friend had zucchini parmesan, ate half, and didn't want it wrapped. My other friends had the fra diavolo pizza and it was literally dough with a bunch of crap thrown on top in a heap. The service WAS TERRIBLE. Our waiter messed up our drink order, and made some comments that left something to be desired of someone who is supposed to be good at customer service. She disappeared for at least 20 min until a different waiter came by at 8:55p to say that the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes. We mentioned we had been waiting to order for 20 min, and his reply was "she's around". Basically, they should probably train waitstaff or hire better waitstaff. read more

Visited Novara last night. The staff had us seated before our reservation time, which was great. The drinks and apps were great too. The problems started once dinner was serve. Not only was dinner served as soon as the appetizer plates were cleared from the table (despite asking our waiter to ensure this did not happen), but also the food was cold. In addition, the salmon was completely undercooked. The manager was quite helpful and tried to resolve the issues. The problems here seem to stem from back of house. read more

Some questionable reviews made us wonder if it was worth our while to try Novara. We were pleasantly surprised. The wait staff, Patrick (who was newly trained) was awesome. He was attentive and offered great service. The chicken parmesan was terrific . Real chicken, pan-seared and tasty! The homemade pasta was delicious. Salads were different and great as well. A little noisy, but we could at least hear one another speak. Pizzas on the next table looked great, too. We are going to try it again. read more

I came here because I had a gift certificate and had never heard of it - glad I came in! The food was great, the wine and beer selection was good too. We sat outside next to the fire pit just like we requested in our reservation and it was perfect! The outdoor patio is so nice. Everything we ordered was delicious. And we ordered a LOT. Several glasses of wine, 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, 1 side, and 3 after-dinner coffees. Sadly, I did feel a little rushed by our server, I had to stop her a few times when we wanted to order more wine and food. It was apparent she was trying to get out of there at the end, but it was only 10:30 (they close at 12?) and we weren't just sitting taking up a table, we were consistently ordering and racking up a bill. We visited the restaurant for the first time tonight. I ordered the pork special which was $28. It was very disappointing. The pork was partially cold and did not taste fresh. The waitress had said that the meat literally fell off the bone so I thought i'd try it but that was not the case. It was very dry and not tender. My husband ordered the chicken dish and he rated it a 5. Martinis were great, chocolate mousse was tasteless, don't know how you can mess that up. I have never experienced a dessert like that with absolutely no taste. We had heard that this restaurant was hit or miss, evidently it was a "miss" night! We will not return. read more

Not going to lie... I originally intended to leave 1 star, but by the end of our meal the owner and our waitress greatly swayed that decision . My boyfriend and I made reservations, which I highly suggest, and we were seated promptly. The owner greeted us and welcomed us in which I appreciated greatly being in customer service myself. We ordered 2 glasses of wine, calamari and a Caesar salad to start. All very delicious! We arrived at 7pm, got our apps and drinks around 715 and then the wait began. When it became 30 mins past without our entrees we started to get irritated. Then 40, then 50 then an hour. At this point we no longer wanted our meals. My boyfriend got up to grab the owner to say we wanted to cancel our dinners. I also flagged down our waitress and let her know to please cancel our entrees. My boyfriend returned to our table with the owner and I explained we had been waiting for about an hour for dinners and we just wanted to cancel them. He apologized and and wanted to make it better. He insisted we stay and enjoy the meals because he truly cares about his customers. We ended up staying and our dinners came out within minutes. I had the salmon and my boyfriend had the chicken Parmesan. Both amazing!! I highly recommend the salmon (it was delicious)... The owner went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and happy throughout the remainder of our dinner. Our waitress was equally as accommodating making sure we had everything we needed and followed up regularly to make sure everything was good. I would absolutely return and recommend this restaurant... (Just understand it is new so they are working a few kinks out)... The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because of the close proximity to our dining neighbors. The tables are very close together, you almost share conversations. But the ambiance is great, the food delicious and the customer service exceptional!! read more

Unfortunately, the food is a unappealing as the atmosphere is gorgeous. First of all, this decor in this place is out of a magazine. They obviously spent an incredible amount of money on marble work and the interior decor. However, perhaps they should have invested more in the cooking staff; the food is downright amateurish. The caesar salad lacked any dressing and was served with tomatoes (which are out of season for New England), which were ORANGE! The chicken parmesan was horrendous. While large, as other reviewers mentioned, it was an entire chicken breast, not filleted or cut into a cutlet or even tenderized. Just slapped in bread crumbs and deep fried, as opposed to pan fried. The pasta lacked any sauce at all, for which the chef apologized, but it obviously shows that they do not know how to cook pasta. Pasta, when boiled, should be UNDERCOOKED, and then finish cooking in the sauce to absorb the flavors from the tomato sauce. The cocktails were delicious, but honestly, this was the worst Italian food I have had at a restaurant and hopefully, they overhaul their kitchen. read more

We've enjoyed this restaurant since it opened. We've loved the food, the ambience, and the service. Last night was our first disappointing experience at Novara, and we're worried that it's headed in the direction of Abby Park. We had reservations. The hostess seated us right away and gave us menus. Then we sat there for 5 or 10 minutes without anybody bringing water, asking about drinks, etc. We tried to catch somebody's eye, but all were assiduously avoidant. The main dining area appeared to have been rearranged to accommodate perhaps 15% more diners than before, meaning that the room was over-packed. Finally, someone brought bread over. We asked for water and a waitperson. The waitress finally appeared perhaps 5 minutes later, apologized for the wait, and took our orders for drinks, apps, and dinner. Then we waited, again. Our first course did show up, but we still had not ever received our wine. Eventually, the waitress brought the wine. While we waited for the entree, we wished that the waitress had checked back in, since each of us wanted a second glass of wine (our glasses were empty and sitting on the table for 10 or 15 minutes). In short, the service was slow, robotic, and off-putting. When the waitress asked us if anything on the dessert menu appealed, I said that it did, but that the service had been so slow all evening that I thought that it might be better to just get the check. She said, in the same chirpy robotic tone, "Okay, whatever you want." No apology, no nothing. She brought the check, then didn't show up again for another 5-10 minutes. We've always liked the food at Abby Park (sister restaurant) very much. But we go there very rarely, because the service is consistently lackadaisical, unconcerned, and painfully slow. I thought that I would mention our concern about the slow, impersonal service to the hostesses on our way out. However, all three of the young women were so busy texting that they didn't even notice us leaving, let alone ask about our experience. We're afraid that Novara is headed down the same path--good food, bad service. When we eat out, service makes the difference between enjoyment and disappointment. read more

I have been here several times for some beer and light food. I like the place, its a bit pricey but otherwise its cool.

Not the upscale Italian restaurant I thought was going there, but more of large upscale bar with seating and wide screens everywhere you look. I would describe it as more of a place that you go out with friends for drinks and something to eat, than out for something to eat and drinks. Its a totally different scene than Steele & Rye so they won't be competing for the same clientele. With all of that said, I've been twice, the food has been really good both times, and I had fun. After speaking to several other friends who had frequented this "hot spot" (aka: new restaurant), I wisely made reservations for a Friday evening for 4 two weeks in advance as I had heard the weekends are usually jammed. Our party of 4 arrived at our appointed time and were promptly seated in a comfy banquette-styled booth. The physical space is wonderful! I remember it's former glamor as a local movie house and it's transformation it somewhat short of spectacular! Some expose brick walls remain as do the high, industrial ceilings and the added full length theater curtains. The large screen TV's and cinema screen, with various mini-reels, add to the nostalgia of the old theater feel. The bar is huge- - but was packed with waiting patrons at 6pm-- be fore-warned. Much to our delight, we were greeted by familiar wait staff person that was well known to us from another local eatery which we often frequent. Their loss was our gain - - but not this night. Perhaps she was overloaded with tables or the timing was off, but her usual focus and attention to detail was not en pointe tonight. After a very long wait, we received our well made cocktails which ranged from a Negroni to espresso martini & wine. After another very long wait, our attendant returned to (finally) take our order. One of our party paused briefly to consult with her partner and our attendant took off saying she would be right back! Thankfully the 4 slices of dense bread & tomato-y dip kept us satisfied for another 12 (timed) minutes until her return. Once we placed our orders, food arrived in a miraculous 10 minutes! 2 of us ordered the porchetta, one had the sweet potato ravioli and one the "special" of steak tips with a lobster risotto. All the dishes were well received but I thought my pork dish over-cooked and the faro risotto that accompanied it underdone. None the less, I would give Novara another try as I think it has excellent potential. The food is good! The service could be honed a bit - - but when we left, they were jammed. They have a big bar that I would definitely try on an off hour. It's a pretty new space in a toney town so I may be waiting a bit for that off hour seat at the bar!! read more

One of the most important things for a local restaurant is the hospitality. Sadly, this was not present. First, the reservations were mixed up - It's a good thing there was a phone call confirmation; they should remember "the customer is always right!". Then, despite getting the date correct, and despite seeing empty tables and high tops, my colleague and I were not allowed to sit down at our scheduled time. Perhaps were we two women - who don't get the same priority as others? Whatever. Stable predictable Italian American food is available at Villa Rosa down the street. Novara Italy is a lovely Roman city west of Milan. Milton's Novara is confused: the atmosphere seems like a sports bar with TV's - yet it has a clean modern decor with lots of tables. It is a place to see and be seen, not relax and eat. I am sad that our experience was so disappointing. I am also surprised that the management does not seem to respond to YELP critiques. I hope that the restaurant will reach out to local people, who would love to have more local places to meet, drink, eat, celebrate, and spend money. read more

Okay. Really disappointed this visit 7/20). Went in for the $1 oysters and $1 clams. I wanted the clams, my friend the oysters. No clams available. The fresh bread with dipping sauce was hard. Ordered the polenta appetizer; no taste or seasonings, just bland. Tried the boboloni - awful, all we could taste was salt. (So much I couldn't get my rings on today). We were offered dessert on the house to make up for no clams; we chose the special - fig bread pudding w/ice cream. Even that was dry. All in all $78 for drinks and appetizers is outrageous. On a warm night, the ambience is spectacular with an outdoor patio adjacent to the main dining room which has exposed duct work and a refurbished movie theatre. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The menu has the usual Southern Italian cuisine but with some interesting variations such as a saltimbocca sandwich. There were some excellent wine by the glass choices including white burgundies. This is the perfect place to enjoy a great meal and drinks with friends. read more

Tried Novara last night for the first time. Made our reservation for three on Open Table and I am glad I did. Several couples ahead of us tried to dine on this busy Friday night without calling ahead for a table, but were denied to an expected full house. We arrived early and were seated right away. Novara has a striking dining room with a large video screen on the back wall above the open kitchen paying homage to the venue's former life as a movie theater. A large, rectangular bar on the left as you pass the podium with booths and free standing tables to the right. A high ceiling gives a nice feeling of space. Service was excellent. We shared a starter of Calamari done as never before with roasted sundried tomatoes, chorizo and kale. Delicious. I had the Chicken Saltimboca, one friend had swordfish and another scallops, all excellent. Desserts of Tiramisu and bread pudding were devoured. Parking available behind the resto in their own lot, on street or in a municipal lot a short walk away. A Boston-quality restaurant without the ordeal of driving into the city. We will return. Food was great, but we waited for @ 10 minutes until we saw our server then at least 10 more before our drinks arrived...she said that the bar was backed up. Appetizers arrived, no small plates, she didn't refill water glasses after repeated requests. Out of nowhere one of the owners reached over my shoulder to take an empty beer glass, he never asked how things were going. We were a party of 7 so 3 of the meals came out and the server rushed over to see how everything was...and looked a little confused when only half the meals were there. Dessert continued to be disappointing, same owner crept in to grab empty glasses, took a full shot of Sambuca by mistake...still no water. I highly recommend you request Brian as your server. His recommendations were honest and I loved everything he chose.
