Had a bite of my other daughter's chorizo biscuits and gravy. I liked the pearl sugar waffle and the chicken tender, I was glad to have gotten the sauce on the side, it was too sweet for me. My wife and I spent three days in St. Charles, Missouri, and we were excited to return to Novellus. We visited around the same time last year and had a great experience, so we were really looking forward to coming back. I normally don't like leaving negative reviews, but something felt different this time. When we walked in there was only one other couple dining, and there was noticeable clutter sitting in the corners of the restaurant. It gave the place a different feel than what we remembered from our last visit. I ordered the Creole Breakfast Gravy. The biscuit itself was excellent--light, fluffy, and exactly how a biscuit should be. Unfortunately the gravy was disappointing. It tasted more like regular sausage gravy with a heavy amount of cayenne pepper and Cajun seasoning added to it. The flavors just didn't balance well. My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict. One poached egg was perfect, but the other came out over medium. That's something a trained chef normally wouldn't send out, and it made me feel like the kitchen might have a cook working the line rather than a chef overseeing the dishes. I do want to say the waitress was phenomenal. She was very attentive, friendly, and always made sure our coffee stayed fresh and hot. Her service was definitely the highlight of the visit. It was moderately busy when we came in for my friends birthday lunch today. We made a reservation in advance, and while we were sat quickly, service was a bit slow. My wife and I went back to Novellus for lunch. We sat at the bar and ordered a Riverside Omelet and Fire Honey Crispy Chicken sandwich. Both were very good. The service was good and the bartenders were good about talking to us. She gave us a sample of several of the beers that were on tap right in front of us. The restuarant is nice and I like the fact that I never have a problem finding a seat because we like sitting at the bar. I would recommend that you give Novellus a try. read more

A couple of things here made it a FIVE STAR experience for me. First of all, the service was FANTASTIC! We were a group of 8, and our server stayed on top of EVERYthing. We did NOT get charged an automatic 20% tip, so I tipped even higher. Secondly, when they spice things, they do an awesome job. So many time, all the spice is in the NAME of the item, instead of in the food. NOT here! My Bloody (spice level 6 out of 10) was PERFECT and the Creole Style Biscuits and Gravy were DELICIOUS!!! Main Street breakfast is the way to go, in my humble opinion. I have came here for all big life events. Libby is my favorite bartender, she is so wonderful and helpful. She does great with all customers and her bar knowledge. Abbie is my favorite server if I don't sit at the bar, but I have never had bad service ever here. Breakfast outing on a beautiful Sunday morning. Walked right in and was greeted promptly and offered a table immediately with no wait! That is unheard of! Off to the table we went. So many varied options to choose from on their menu. We decided on the Early Riser Flatbread, Crab Cake Benedict and the Creole Style Biscuits and Gravy. Our selections arrived quickly to our table. The flatbread was amazing with what looked to be a homemade crust and the flavor was outstanding. Crab Cake Benedict was beautiful with a perfect hollandaise that ran down onto two large crab cakes. If you like spicy you will have to try the Creole Style biscuits and gravy. I can't explain the flavor, spicy but didn't "burn". Definitely a meal I would try again. My husband and I ate here for breakfast and let me start out with, the service was good...now, other than that...the coffee was so bad, my husband told the waitress to take it off our order, it did have a puke kind of smell to it. Then we got our breakfast. I ordered the eggs, bacon and diced potatoes and added gravy to my biscuit. The gravy was disgusting, I don't even know what the gravy was, how can you mess up sausage gravy!! The potatoes for both of us were over cooked. We ordered drinks from the bar, we both ordered old fashions and for the price, they weren't made very well and were not very strong, probably closer to an ounce verses a more generous pour for a $12 drink. Visiting our bestie for her birthday, and we went to Novellus for a Saturday mimosa brunch. The service was great as our server was really sweet and attentive. We definitely kept her busy with the bottomless mimosas, as they have so many flavors to choose from. Along with the standard OJ and champagne, they also have peach, cranberry, grapefruit, and a few more. We also loved the food as well. The breakfast pizza was a great starter, and the Cajun pasta was very spicy and delicious! The Nashville chicken tenders were tasty, and the mini waffles that it came with were delicious as well. The ambiance was casual but stylish. We met the owner and although he told us how much he seemingly dislikes Yelp, and Californians (which 3 of us are) as he jokingly remarked, it was still a 5 star experience for us. Hubby ordered the traditional benedict with an additional side of biscuits and gravy. The home fries were so good - very crispy which we liked. The egg was a bit overcooked, and I didn't like the sausage gravy but Hubby did. I think that was more of a preference, a seasoning that I didn't love. Hubby also ordered a vanilla latte and enjoyed it as well. I was torn and asked the waitress their favorite dish and that's how I ended up ordering the cajun pasta - order this! It was delicious! The sauce was a great texture and the spice was on point! The shrimp and andouille were both cooked perfectly. Came for lunch and sat at the bar. I tried their Fish & Chips. I'm use to the VFW fish fries on Fridays and their fish is frozen then deep fried in oil. I don't know what I was thinking. The fish had more breading than actual fish. Their fries came out hot and crispy which saved the meal. I got excellent service from the barmaid. My fiancé tried the Cajun pasta which was very tasty and had a nice kick. We chose the unlimited mimosa option and tried almost every flavor they offered. My favorite was the grapefruit. This restaurant is on Main Street in St. Charles so street parking may be limited. I came here on a Saturday so I'd reccomend parking in the Public Parking garage on Monroe Street and Main. It's a short downhill walk and no cost to park in the garage. The Spiked Basil Lemonade had the perfect balance between booze and lemonade. The omelet was filling so I really didn't need the extra bacon. This was my first time here for brunch so I was preparing myself for the usual lack of meat in omelets of other local eateries. I stood corrected! The breakfast potatoes were perfectly cooked with the crispy outershell but soft on the inside. The biscuit was not dry or overly buttered but came with cinnamon butter. Okay this place is a gem. We came here after walking the beautiful Main Street. Immediately was greeted with the friendliest and warm hello. We came during a time when it was not super busy so they were able to seat us quickly. What I loved was our server was beyond friendly and helpful. I believe her name was Sarah but that could be wrong. She helped us by giving amazing recommendations but also pointed out some fun things to do in town. And the prices are very reasonable. And what a cool vibe the place has. The dark walls and numerous metal shelves filled with books and Knick knacks give off a hip coffeehouse effect. WOW! Novellus is the real deal! On their website, they refer to themselves as a "Novel Dining Experience." They are very unique. While there is a bar in full view in the dining room, this is NOT your typical bar on Main. In fact, the bar only appears to be used for wine and cocktails with meals. I did not see anyone sitting at the bar. I came with a group of friends. We were seated in a private room on the side. Everything was absolutely beautiful. There was a large TV in the room with a crackling fireplace playing. How nice. One of my friends even commented he could almost feel the warmth of the fire. Though we dine out weekly, I don't recall the last time we were seated comfortably. Our table at Novellus was in the center of the room so we could all easily move around. In addition, we were not sitting on top of each other. We had room for our plates and to spread out a bit. Our server was Hannah. Though there were 9 of us, Hannah managed to effortlessly (at least it appeared to be effortlessly) attend to us all. She kept our drinks refilled, promptly got out our meals, and correctly got our bills (not a small feat as most of us were on separate checks.) I ordered the Roasted Chicken Italian Style. I almost didn't get it because restaurant chicken is usually so dry, but this was AMAZING! No other word describes it. It had a light lemon sauce with capers and was incredibly juicy. My sides were deep-fried brussels sprouts and assorted vegetables. The brussels had cranberries! Such an awesome surprise. I always check with my friends for their opinions.
